1440x900 Display

Has anyone ever been able to get a resolution of 1440x900 working on a mac? I have a G5 and (2) Samsung monitors that really want to see a resolution 1440x900, and the video card says it will support it (NVidia FX6), but it is not listed in the available options. Nvidia says it's not their problem, Apple says it's not their problem. If there is a video card out there that does support this resoltion, please advise!
Thank you.
Dual 2Ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You can only use the resolution if it's supported by the monitor. That resolution requires a wide-screen monitor capable of displaying a 16:9 image. Standard 4:3 screen monitors cannot.

  • HELP FOR A POWERBOOK G4 17'' 1440X900 DISPLAY WHICH BECAME BLACK ?

MY POWERBOOK G4 17'' 1440X900 DISPLAY WENT BLACK OR ALMOST BLACK AS I CAN SEE A VERY FAINT AND VERY DARK IMAGE OF THE SCREEN BUT NOT THE POINTER FOR EXAMPLE. IT HAPPENED A FEW TIMES THE DAY BEFORE BUT I WAS ABLE TO HAVE IT WORK BY SHUTTING IT OFF AND BACK ON AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE NEXT DAY, IT DEFINITIVELY QUIT WORKING AT ALL. I CAN USE MY POWERBOOK WITH ANOTHER MONITOR, BUT IT WON'T BE A LAPTOP ANYMORE. IT SEEMS TO BE DUE TO THE INVERTER. IS IT EASY TO REPLACE THAT PART OR IS IT BETTER, SAFER BUT MORE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE LCD UNIT. I BOUGHT IT IN JANUARY 2005. ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO FIND OUT IF THE SUPERDRIVE IS SINGLE LAYER OR DUAL LAYER AS SOME WEBSITES REQUIRE THAT INFORMATION TO ORDER THE DEFECTIVE PART. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP.

Hi, jfmg, and welcome to Apple Discussions. If you type your posts in standard upper- and lowercase text instead of ALL CAPS, they will be much easier for others to read.
    A 17-inch Powerbook with a 1440 x 900 display does not have a DL SuperDrive. The model with a DL SuperDrive (introduced in October 2005) has a 1680 x 1050 display.
Yes, it sounds as though your Powerbook's inverter has failed. The inverter is inside the display assembly and difficult to replace. The display assembly is very expensive to replace in its entirety, so you'll have to choose between two pretty unappealing options.

  • Is it possible to run OS in 1440x900 on retina display?

As in the subject - is it possible to kick off OS X to run as if the display was not retina at all?
    Thanks in advance.

By default, the OS treats the screen as a 1440x900 display with pixel-doubling (That is, where a normal screen would have one pixel, the Retina will display two across and two down).
You can change the effective screen resolution to one of five settings:
    1024x640
    1280x800
    1440x900 (the default)
    1680x1050
    1920x1200
The OS does not natively allow the user to render at the full 2800x1800 resolution.

  • Are All PowerBook G4 Display Assemblies swappable?

My PowerBook G4 1.5 Ghz display is cracked and needs to be replaced. I don't want to send it into a shop for the $700+ repair. I would like to attempt replacing my display assembly with a USED display assembly.
Does any one know if i can replace my display assemby with another PowerBook G4 17 such as a 1.0 GHz or the 1.33 or 1.67Ghz?
I plan to buy a brain dead 17" on eBay with a functioning display and swap it out. This is not my main computer and just a hobby project that i plan to give to a friend if I am successfull.

  • Want a High Resolution LED Display

    Hi,
I am considering of buying a T400 soon, probably this summer. My major concern about the matter is that the WXGA+ (high resolution 1440x900) display is no longer available, on both US and Canadian website.  From what I read in this forum, such spec is discontinous, and I am frankly very disapointed. Basically, I consider that as a deal breaker. A choice to make between resolution and display brightness + power saving is a decision I can not make with my conscious mind.
I really hope that the high res LED display will be back soon, and I would appreciate a representitive from lenovo to confirm this.
I heard there are numerous issue related to the LG vs. Samsung LEDs and also the negative feedback on the keyboard issue since the launch of new T400. As the Flagship of the range, I truely hope that the Thinkpad engineering team do not repeat silly mistakes like these to ruin the name of Thinkpad.
    thanks

Yes Trevor thats me! I thought that was you! How are you doing?? Great to hear from you :-)
A couple of things as i stayed up late last night looking around.....
I have looked at the Dell Precision M4700 and because its got the older processors & its not as expensive as the M4800 but would seem to work well for me. Im looking for something that is not too high a resolution like 1920x1080 (and even that is pushing it on a 15.6" screen im sure), good viewing angles, lots of RAM, decent NITS, decent sRGB coverage and that wont break the bank. Easy chore huh?
I think with this purchase im going to have to make some compromises and by getting this machine i think i will be ok. Im sure they will probably come out with a high resolution fix the day i get my lower resolution display but hey, thats the way it goes huh?
Im using a very old MacBook Pro right now that is 1200x800 and it is excellent so im sure i'll be fine with a 1920x1080 display.
One thing that has me confused is when i look at Dell's website it states that all of their machines are approved for Photoshop CS6. Kind of funny they would say that if that includes the high rez version no?
Also, they have something called an "optimizer" which i beleive is software that works with your computer to optimize it for certain applications on the fly. It lists it as working well with Photoshop. That would in no way be a solution to the high rez display issues would it?
I even saw a video that had the highest resolution display with Photoshop on it and it looked fine! Did they Photoshop that??
Any insight you can give me before i pull the trigger would be most appreciated. I am getting a Windows machine because i have to run QuickBooks for Windows on it and i dont want to use Parallels or Boot Camp. Just me but i dont like the idea of doing that (i know im wierd!)
Hope to hear from you all soon!
Thank you so much for the great help!
    best to you,
    rick

  • Can I replace my 1440x900 LCD screen with a 1680x1050 screen?

    I have a PB G4, 17" A1107, with 1.67GHz, 2GB, Double Layer Superdrive, and 1440x900 display.
The display has developed 8 vertical lines of different colors.
These lines are not visible on the external LCD connected via the DVI port. So, that
pretty much rules out the video ram as the source of the lines.
That leaves the LCD itself, and the LVDS data cable.
What I would like to do is replace the LCD with a high resilution one of
    1680x1050.
Assuming there is nothing wrong with the LVDS data cable, will
the high res lcd panel work in my A1107?
    Thanks for your exprt help.

    The logic board?
You mean the ATI 9700 graphix chip with 128MB Video Ram, right?
My G4 has the same graphics chip and video ram as the A1139 with
the 1680x1050 lcd panel. So, what are you basing your over-general
    statement of "the logic board"?
The internal layout? I am not changing the internal layout.
You obviously have never opened an A1139, nor an A1107.
You would NEVER tell the difference between them. They are
identical except for user selected options like how much ram,
dual layer or single layer  dvd drive,  has wireless or not, has
1440x900 or 1680x1050 panel.... those kind of differences.
    But otherwise they are identical.
I am not saying I would go ahead and do it, and **** the torpedos.
I was hoping to see if someone has some real experience of having done it
or tried to do it, and share that experience with some hard technical facts.
    Regards,

  • 13" Macbook pro..? (Bad display?)

The macbook pro has 1280x800 display is it that bad..?

There's nothing bad about having a 1280x800 display. Some users prefer the larger pixels on the 13" MBP than on the 13" MBA 1440x900 display.

  • Proportional multiple displays?  (15inch/Late2011)

I'm wanting to connect two monitors to my Macbook Pro (15inch/Late2011) on either side of its original display. However, the issue is I can't find any that are porportional to the 1440x900 display.
Does anyone know any particular brands or could anyone link me to some displays that are exactly 1440x900/15inches?
    Thanks,

Do you find the extra 2" effects portability? Are you ever second guessing if you can be bothered to take it with you etc. As I would take it into university every day.
I actually have both 15" and 13" Retinas. Both are 2012 models. Both have excellent screen quality. I think Apple's term is "stunning".
I have taken each separately from place to place and I find both equally portable. But because of its size and weight (1 lb lighter than the 15") the 13" seems easier to carry around. It's almost like a tablet. I use to have a 13" Macbook Pro non-Retina (early-2011) and between that and my 15" Retina, I was more comfortable traveling with the Retina.
The 15" screen size is nicer compared to the 13". So, for what you do with yours, in my opinion, you would really like the 15". It's just as portable. What you might want to do, if you can, is visit a local Apple Store and compare the two side-by-side. Hold them so you have an idea of what it would be like to carry it around.

  • [T410] discrete gfx - Problem with Video Card and Windows Aero -anyone using 4Gb memory modules?

    [3/3/2010 Update]
There's a issue of using 4Gb sticks on T410 currently that results in video output artifacts and aero interface problems when using Lenovo supplied drivers v8.16.11.8825. I think I can call it confirmed (Three people including me face this issue).
Possible workaround is to install modified EliteBook 8440p video driver (read along this thread) comes with a BIG drawback of not being able to change brightness level within Windows 7. To sweeten it a little bit - you can set luminance level at POST screen, when computer boots up.
    [Original Message]
Encountered strange behavoir of my T410.
I have a T410 with 256Mb of Video Memory and 1440x900 display, a T61 with 128Mb of Video Memory and 1400x1050 dsplay and external monitor HP w2338h with 1920x1080 resolution.
If I connect external monitor to my T410 and launch Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 - image blinks and comes back with Aero disabled. Looking through event logs reveals the lack of memory. Entry information can be found further.
Now If I do the same with my old Thinkpad T61, connect the same monitor using the same cable - I can open as many Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 instances I like (tried 5) and nothing blinks and Aero stays enabled.
Actually I find ridiculous, a notebook with more VRAM cannot archive the same performance as notebooks with less.
Does anyone know what path should I pursue to solve this issue?
UPDATE: Simply running multiple instances of Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 without external monitor causes Aero disabled as well.

  • Dreamweaver CC impossible to use on MacBook Pro 13" ?

Hi, I have a 13" MacBook Pro 2012 (classic, not retina). I installed Dreamweaver CC yesterday to continue working on a site I'm developing (I had it on my Mac desktop but needed to work while away from home).
I found the workspace layout of Dreamweaver CC impossible to use on a modern width site (around 970px wide). The inspectors/windows on the right hand side of the page are just too wide. I use a vertical split view with code and design. Has anyone found a good way to work on a 13" laptop with Dreamweaver CC? Thankfully I was able to find the download link for CS6 which seems hundreds of times more usable on the laptop but would like to upgrade to the latest software.
My native screen resolution is 1280 x 800.
    Any tips?

You can change the width of the sidebar, but I agree there are things they could do with the design for smaller screens.  I have an older MBP 15" with a 1440x900 display and I feel like I don't have enough room at times.  Mostly my complaint is with the Files Panel because I work with a lot of content management systems with deep file structures.  Nothing you can do, but I don't really think CC is a lot worse than CS6.

  • MSI gtx 570 twin frozr III - Dual Screen Windowed mode issues

Ok, so... I was running a solo monitor 1440x900 resolution, i recently purchased a brand new asus 24 inch 1900x1080 monitor. Basically what is happening is when i play WoW or Battlefield 3 in windowed mode on the 1080p monitor the colors are not perfect. When i go full-screen on the new monitor no issues, but that is not what i want to have to live with. When i say the colors are not perfect what i mean is, for example when i look @ the sky instead of being a smooth transition or blend from one shade of the sky to the next it is bars or stripes of each shade as if i am looking at the sky in 8 bit color instead of 32 bit color. Another thing to note is that when i login to windows 7 the blue screen where i input the password has the same effect. The 1440x900 monitor is running everything just fine. the only issue is with the 1080p monitor.
I am using DVI cabling for both, and have swapped them around to see if that was the issue, and sadly it is not. I am running the updated gpu driver, which i uninstalled and re-downloaded and installed again tonight.
When i use the HDMI cable,  that fixes the issue but i need the HDMI for my 42 inch tv.
Also in windows, just to cover my bases with this post, i have the native resolutions properly configured, as well as in the game for the given monitor it is being played on.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
    i7 2600k
    asus PBZ68-v Pro/Gen3
    Msi gtx 570
    Samsung syncmaster 953bw (1440x900)
    Asus VS248 (1900x1080)
I am more than happy to re-explain anything that may not be as descriptive or clear to you just let me know!
    EDIT!
When i run the 24 inch 1080p new monitor as my only monitor on the system, everything runs perfectly...
    Edit #2
Ok so i have pin pointed a possible cause
This msi gtx 570 struggles with operating multiple displays with different resolutions, while dual screening with my 1080p television and the 1080p display, everything runs as expected. Having to also render a 1440x900 display is probably the reason i am having the graphic issues. Is there any type of utility, setting, or other fix to this type issue? also this gpu is certainly less than 2 weeks since i purchased i could get a different card to remedy this... any suggestion? if you suggest a different card can you say so with certainty that it will work properly under the condition in which 2 resolutions will be required?

Ok, the problem is fixed and Svet i skipped a step or two. I installed the new driver with the clean install to save time for an initial attempt. What is interesting is that with the Geforce driver, only one 1920x1080 resolution was available
The msi driver gave me 2 options, 1920x1080 and 1920x1080 (native). The latter resolution fixed the issue for whatever reason.
The solution to this problem is so easy, when i purchased battlefield 3 it prompted me to download the geforce.com driver and i did not think anything of it at the time, lesson learned.

  • T61 screen flickers on Windows XP

I've just downgraded from Windows Vista and what is really disturbing is flickering  screen (It's like low refresh rate on CRT). Me eyes hurts... I've installed the driver provided by Lenovo for nVidia Quadro NVS 140M card. I also tried the newest from nvidia site with modified .inf file. The same.
It looks like transparent moving pattern (chessboard) when I take a closer look. My screen is 1440x900 14,1" . There was no such trouble on Linux or Windows Vista ( if I remember correctly ). However. I double checked on my Linux system, there is no such flickering. The most visible is with blue background. On Windows refresh rate is set to 60Hz and there are no other options.

I installed much older driver ( Lenovo 6.14.11.5666 ) and IT DOES WORKS properly. No flickering or smudging.
I think something is wrong with the current Lenovo drivers (and the nVidia) about pixel refresh timings on my 1440x900 display, so the refresh rate is screw up.
    TO LENOVO MAINTAINERS :
The drivers need a fix for 1440x900 display and nVidia Quadro NVS 140M on WindowsXP !!! !!!

  • Image quality of imported PDF's

I am running Motion 2.1 on a Mac Pro w/ an ATI 1900 X card and 2 Gb of ram (I doubt any of this info--aside from the software version--will help, but I figure it can't hurt).
I am creating a project where a film reel runs across the screen. This is for an animated film that will be presented on a theatre-sized screen, so the quality of the image is critical.
The software I am using to create the character is called LineForm, and this is essentially a poor person's Illustrator. The software exports into a variety of formats, so I am exporting as PDF since, according to the following passage from page 455 of the Apple Pro Training Series Motion guide, resizing should not cause any image degredation:
"Motion will perform what's called a continuous rasterize of the artwork, preserving anti-aliased edges even at extreme zooms. To import vector artwork, it must be saved as a single-layer Adobe PDF document".
I have put my project files out on my host, so please check out the following:
http://home.earthlink.net/~placelogohere/film%20reel%201.pdf is the pdf I am trying to import into Motion. If you open this file in Preview, you'll see you can max out the zoom on it and still not see any pixelation, but Motion greatly reduces the quality of the imported image.
http://home.earthlink.net/~placelogohere/film%20reel%202.pdf is part of the character, also exported as a pdf, and I tried to import this into Motion and then reduce it. Needless to say, reducing the image size only resulted in even worse pixelation in Motion.
http://home.earthlink.net/~placelogohere/running%20reel%20test.psd is a single frame export from my Motion project, showing both of these PDF's after import. Open this image in Preview and, even on the first zoom, you'll see the pixelation I mentioned.
This Motion project is also out there as http://home.earthlink.net/~placelogohere/running%20reel%20test.motn . I welcome any advice and ask that this project, and the associated files previously listed, be opened and experimented with.

Mac Prod quad 2.6 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 Gb RAM, ATI Radeon 1900 X

I have tried both importing the full-size PDF (see
"film reel 2.pdf" in the link in my first post) and
reducing it, and also reducing it first and then
importing it ("film reel 1.pdf"). The results are
    the same either way.
I can see the pixelation almost immediately when
zooming in from 100%, so I'm probably about at 125%,
I'm guessing. At 200%, its incredibly evident.
anyone please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong - but any time you zoom in past 100% in your canvas you can expect to see a distorted image. this zoom doesn't affect your final output but it's essentially taking an image of a fixed resolution (in this case 720x480) and spreading it across a wider canvas.
i'd be interested to see what results you get if you create a new project using a higher resolution format (one of the DVCPRO HD ones?) and bring the footage into that.
make sure to disable fixed resolution for the individual media elements. i tried downloadaing your files and everything seemed to work pretty well for me. however - i'm using a computer with a small 15" 1440x900 display, so that might affect the perception. what kind of display are you using?
