15" 2.0ghz i7 MacBook pro

I am interested in buying this computer and was just wondering if it is powerful enough. Would handle adobe software like illustrator, photoshop, and could I use them both at the same time. If you have this kind if computer share your experience

It would work, but slow. At least much slower than on Mac Pro. You should consider having at least 8GB of RAM and preferably an SSD disk on your Macbook Pro

  • Macbook 2.0GHz or Macbook Pro 2.33GHz

Bang for buck what would be the best buy of these 2 with 2 Gig RAM ... Macbook 2.0GHz or Macbook Pro 2.33GHz.
With the saving I could upgrade to Logic Pro.
Anyone using a Macbook 2.0GHz out there with 2 Gig Ram?

The 2GHz MBP is better than the old twin G5. I am using a G5 still and have used a friends MBP and been astonished as to how good it is. It's easy always to go for the max of everything but, if the 2GHz allows you to get Logic Pro as well, then it's a no-brainer. You will be happy with that combo for a good long time.

I'm not sure if you understand that 5 GHz has some upsides, but also some very significant downsides.
The upside is that the 5 GHz signal will allow faster speeds.
The downside is that you must always give up something in order to gain something else.Unfortunately, the marketing hype about 5 GHz does not go into very many details about this.
In the case of 5 GHz, the 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so they do not travel as far or penetrate any obstructions like walls or ceilings nearly as well as 2.4 GHz signals. In many cases, in order to get good 5 Ghz performance, you literally have to have almost a line-of-sight relationship between your computer and the wireless router.
If you have a new dual band router, which broadcasts both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal simutaneously, your Mac will connect to the best signal quality automatically depending on its location in relation to the router. In the same room, without any obstructions, it will connec to 5 GHz. But, take the laptop down the hall a few rooms and around the corner and the Mac will connect to the 2.4 GHz signal because at that location, the 2.4 GHz signal is not only stronger, it is also faster.

  • Can I install Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro 2.0GHz quad-core Intel i7?

I need to reformat my MacBook Pro 2.0GHz quad-core Intel i7 with OS X Lion with Snow Leopard in order to install Final Cut Pro Studio 2. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi z,
Contact Apple and ask them for the install disc that would have shipped with your machine if Lion had not been released. Others have been successful in obtaining the disc and installing SL.

  • Aperture won't run on my new 2.0GHz MacBook Pro

I'd been using Aperture on a Powerbook G4 1.25GHz with 1Gb RAM. It did some things slowly, but otherwise it worked very well.
Imagine my surprise when I loaded it onto my new MacBook Pro 2.0GHz with 1Gb RAM, and tried to open it and got a message that this computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run Aperture!
Do I need to do something special when installing it?
Other apps that run under Rosetta, like Illustrator CS2, start up pretty slowly on the MBP, but at least they run.
    Thanks for any help.

Out of interest - how do intend to cope with storage with this type of machine? There are currently no new card slot SATA or Firewire 800 adapters available and given that backup operations are going to be slow (minimum impact) or in the event of big library you will be hampered by the lack of fast external disk support (far more serious) to actually use your library!
I have found running different libraries on portable and desktop far too complicated and I wonder apart from the hardware considerations how people handle this situation.

  • What is the price of macbook pro early 2011 15 inch 2.0ghz

Just need to find out the price difference,if any, between early 2011 macbook pro 2.0ghz and late 2011 2.2 ghz in Singapore currency. Thanks:)

There was no price increase from the early to the late 2011 MBPs.
Tim Cook has not called me to let me know when the new MBPs will be released.  When he does, I promise I will let you know.
Seriously, Apple never releases such information until they actually do so.  That is their corporate policy.  Anything you see on other websites are rumors and nothing more.
    Ciao.

  • I have a new 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro and my external firewire drive is causing the laptop to lock up

I have a new 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro and my external firewire drive is causing the computer to lock up. The drive seems to sleep and then never wakes and the laptop locks up. I've had this drive connected to an older 2.0 core duo macbook pro and a 3.0GHz quad core macpro with no issues. It's a ministack v3 drive, 2GBs, fw400+800, sata and usb. Any ideas? And can I stop the drive from going to sleep?
    Thanks.

Check with the drive's manufacturer to see if they might have a firmware update for the enclosure; it sounds like the enclosure's firmware isn't properly detecting the FireWire wakeup sequence.
Obviously this could also be a bug with the new MBP's firmware, so it wouldn't hurt to ask the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store; in particular, ask them to show you that the sleep/wakeup sequence on your MBP works with some other FireWire drive.

  • Drivers for W7 on Bootcamp (Macbook pro 15 i7 2.0GHz 2011)

I bought a new macbook pro 15 inch i7 2.0GHz 2 month ago and I installed Windows x64 on Bootcamp. I have no DVD driver from Apple because my Macbook is refurbished. I hope you have found drivers for wifi, sound and bluetooth. I have installed a driver for wifi found on Broadcom BCM43xx but no results, no connection was found.
I hop you can help me
Sorry for my english, I'm french

Please read the BootCamp Install Guide http://manuals.info.apple.com/fr_FR/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7_f.pdf
With OSX 10.7 Lion there are no longer any OSX DVDs but instead the BootCamp Assistant allows the download of the "Windows Support Software" which are in fact the needed Windows drivers.

  • MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz runs warm, battery life not bad?

    http://blogs.ittoolbox.com/security/investigator/archives/007864.asp
The MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz runs warmer, battery life not too bad!!!! You have to love that packaging...

With Windows XP machines the CPU has three basic speed modes (with many other power saving features)
Full speed , in this case 2GHZ
    low speed: 600MHZ or 800MHZ,
and 'dynamic' mode (throttles the cpu form around 100MHZ to 2GHZ on the fly according to demand).
So on a Windows machine you can set the cpu to run at 600MHZ constant which is good for heat issues ( and battery life)
Of course 'dynamic' mode also is good fo heat and the battery (nice to have options)
In practice these features work well and have been present in the mobile chips for quite a while now.

Video is the magic word for fast CPUs, large screens, maximum RAM and large HHDs.  Ditto what eww says and do not order RAM and HDD upgrades through Apple.  It is much, much less expensive through third party vendors.
    Ciao.

  • Difference between MacBook Pro 15in 2.0GHZ & 2.2GHZ

    Hello -
I am thinking about purchasing a 15in MacBook Pro.  Two questions:
    1) Is it worth to pay the extra $300 for .2GHZ of processor speed, 250GB of extra hard disk space, and a slightly better video card?
    2) also - is there a major difference between 2.0GHZ and 2.2GHZ in terms of processor speed?  Computer will be used for iPhoto, iMovie, email, iTunes, etc.  Basic stuff.
    Thanks!!!

The real difference is not so much in published clock speed but the processor capability. The 2.0ghz MBP has a Core Duo processor--it's 32-bit. The 2.2 is a Core 2 Duo and is 64-bit capable. Snow Leopard runs like a dream on my 2.2 MBP and everything possible is set to 64-bit mode. This computer is much faster with 10.6 than it ever was with 10.5. Functionally, the 2.2 will be the better performer as more apps become 64-bit capable.
I am sorry, this is incorrect information.  The 2.0 and the 2.2 are both Core i7 Sandy Bridge processors from Intel; both are 64bit architecture and both have 4 processor cores.  When it comes to the difference between processors there is just a slight speed bump.
The main reason to upgrade from the 2.0 to the 2.2 is the graphics card.  If you are going to be using the machine for graphics intensive work flow, then it would be advisable to upgrade.  If you are only anticipating using your machine for the basic tasks which you listed, there really is no reason for the bump up, in my opinion.  Especially since most of the tasks you listed will not even be possessed by AMDs graphics processor.  Only graphics intensive tasks will get shifted to AMD's processor, the rest will be handled by Intel's integrated graphics built into the Core i7 chipset.  You would do better to invest your money in a RAM upgrade; 8 gigs would do very nicely.
I personally bought the 2.0 15" MBP with 8 gigs of RAM and a solid state hard-drive.  I too am using my machine for more or less basic tasks and I am very pleased with the performance.

  • Does anyone know the geekbench score of the 2011 2.0GHz Macbook Pro?

Does anyone know the geekbench score of the 2011 2.0GHz Macbook Pro?  I have heard different numbers and it all seems way exaggerated.  I believe it is between 8800+...  Help.

I found this online, but I was wondering if this is a real list of actual scores, or if someone made these up...  I will have the:
MacBook Pro 15" 2.0GHz, 8GB Ram, 750GB (7200rpm) HDD... Not sure if this info is helpful at all?

  • "Macbook Pro 17-inch" OR "15-inch 2.0Ghz + 23-inch display" ?

I'm ready to upgrade my iMac G4 and would like to change to a Macbook Pro. The decision i'm working on making is whether to invest in the 17-inch MBP or go for the 15-inch + 23-inch display. Both options cost about the same.
The combination of laptop and display creates the flexibility of working on a large desktop display at home and bringing the laptop with me when I travel.
The 17-inch brings the higher performance. Perhaps the 17-inch display is plenty of screen space for working at home (I've been working with a 17-inch screen on my G4 iMac for several years)
I would describe my use of the system as "home use" -> internet, email, iTunes, photo library/editing/I'm thinking about upgrading from iPhoto to Photoshop, video storage/I've done very little video editing but may start with Final Cut Express,
I'd very much appreciate any comments and advice from anyone who can make suggestions about which of these systems would be best for my needs.
Some additional questions about the MBP + Cinema Display combination:
Is it a good idea to run the MacBook Pro 15-inch connected to a 23-inch Apple display? I realize the Apple displays are targeted at Mac Pro users. Would i get the full benefit of the display performance if I'm driving it with a Macbook Pro? Is it convenient to "dock" and "un-dock" the MBP from the display? Besides the Bookendz product is there any expectation that Apple will produce a docking station to connect the MBPs to the displays?

If you plan on using it mainly at home, I would get the 15" and external display. That's what I done. It's been working out great. You don't need a docking station either. Everything is easy to attach and unattach,

  • Two problems with my Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15inch, 2.0Ghz

    Hi guys,
so I got my old 2009 MBP replaced by a new Early 2011 one.
First problem with the new machine had to do with our alltime favorite: Flash player (at least I guess it had something to do with it)! I used the 10.3 beta which has its own tile in the sys preferences. When I used Firefox 4.0, Firefox caused the MBP to freeze... I had to shut down via power button. So I first tried to deinstall Flash and Firefox and reinstall the regular (not beta) version of Flash and Firefox. I had also all updates for Mac OS X installed, but no change... several complete system freezes later I decided to reinstall the whole OS. Since the reinstall I wasn't confronted with total system freezes anymore, but Firefox still hangs up sometimes and shows me the colored ball... but it gets back to normal after approx. 30 sec. Has anyone else experienced the same probs?
Now the second problem: Since the reinstall of the OS, my Airport always looses the connection to my WIFI. I use the computer and after a while I go away, and when I come back... no connection annymore.  When I wait until it finds my network again, it won't connect automatically and I have to reenter my networkkey. So I started to deactivate and reactivate Airport in these cases via the menubar entry and the it works again. But even if you stream a Flash video it looses the connection and it is driving me crazy right now.
I was so happy to get one of the new MBPs but now... I'm actually a bit annoyed. Firefox and Flash performance is pretty bad (probably software issue, but how do I know)... and a moody Airport... any suggestions?
    thanks in advance...
    seb

Does the laptop feel hot (if you know where the fans blow out, feel there, or around there on the casing)?
If so, then thats the reason why its freezing. And thats also usually because the fans aren't going fast enough, or doing its job well enough. Try downloading a fan speed monitor such as iStat. The fans max at 6,000 RPM i believe. And if its hot, and not around that, then thats a problem . For some reason, Flash heats up MacBook Pro's a lot, and it really bothers me.
Im a gamer, and cant play games either on it. Yet... i still love my MacBook Pro.
