15" and Warcraft?

Has anyone with the new 15" tried to play World of Warcraft with it? Is it even playable? I am looking to buy one and this is the one game I would like to try on it.

WoW runs great on my new 15" PB. It does get hot tho - I have a Targus laptop mat that has two big fans in it (it is about 1cm high) that keeps it reasonably cool.
The game looks awesome on the huge screen tho... colors are very sharp. As far as framerates, look for around 10-15fps at the very top settings, and on lesser settings you can get 30-40fps easy, which is very smooth (Wow is fairly smooth from about 15fps on up)

Audigy 2 ZS and Warcraft prob

So I've got Audigy 2 ZS and when i the wold of warcraft the sound is very good, but all the sounds from windows are muted so i can't listen to music, or play some video when i have World of Warcraft minimized. Allso i saw in EAX console (Advanced HD) that ALL OF the effects tab is disabled (not just disabled, but the endire space under the enable button gets empty, instead of grey or sth) and i can't enable them during World of Warcraft playtime, but it all get back to normal when i exit the game, and i can listen to music, or watch movies etc. What can i do for this?

Fan Runs strangely and Warcraft 3 and expansion run strangely...

I have been experiencing my MacBooks fan rev up and down and sometimes completely stop for maybe 5 seconds then just rev up again and slow down then get really loud then slow down etc. Is there any way to see how fast my fan is running? And if I need a new fan?
The Warcraft problem is when I am playing the game it will lag and then the sound will repeat multiple time and my cursor will "float". It makes my entire computer stop for a second then act funny for a second then go back to normal. My itunes music will repeat multiple times (like a record skips) also. Sometimes in the worst case the music will completely become just distorted but when i plug my headphones in and out it repairs it. Sometimes when this problem happens there will be a long tone coming from the speakers when this problem occurs I restart my computer.
Can anyone help this?? I know its very strange and quite annoying! So plleaassee help!

I updated to Lion 10.7.3 and started noticing my fans running on high all the time and my battery would drain 2-3x faster. I was going to take my computer into an Apple store until I found this thread. I did the SMC reset by shutting down my computer, plugging it in, and then pushing down shift+control+option while also pushing down the power button. Nothing happens on the screen and the computer did not turn on. I then released all the buttons at once after holding them down for 10 seconds.
After that, I simply turned my computer back on and everything seems to be working fine. The fans are not blasting anymore. I have a newer MacBook Pro where I can't access my batteries. The SMC reset may differ for other types of laptops.

Warcraft 3 TFT and Mac os

When I try to join an custom game in Warcraft 3 TFT, the screen freezes and warcraft quits all of a sudden.
this is happening with several people on mac.

Unlikely. Warcraft TFT is an old game and there are probably few here who have ever played it, much less still play it. OTOH, if you go to a Warcraft TFT forum, you can guarantee that everyone there is still actively interested in the game.

ITunes doesn't open and agreement page opens for a split second then leaves

Hi well i posted this thread a while back but never got a response soo I though maybe if I post a new one you would see me, sorry if im a burden but I really need the help. Okay well i just uninstalled iTunes because I already had problems with it but now, I just got my iPod and installed the cd on my computer.Then I click on iTunes and the agreement page comes up for one split second then exits out.Well heres all my Inof.I have Norton Anti Virus 2005, Windows XP, Microsoft Firewall (off), i have service pack 2 for microsoft and all the necessary updates are downloaded. I didnt download the optional upgrades only the ones that said were needed. please help me.

Ok, so you described your problem to me. I think its a particular malware program thats going around and it causes exactly what you described. BUT, because you do have Nortan 2005, its QUITE possible that is the culprit. Norton and itunes dont play nice together. Norton thinks its a malicious program and blocks it from opening. Its a pain, i know, but First, try turning OFF norton before you launch iTunes and report back to me about what happens.

Arch 64bit and 32bit games under wine

I am using an x86_64bit version of arch linux and have tried to use Civilization IV and Warcraft III with wine. But i have no usable Framerates. I have tried a lot of issues from Google Searches and from this forum but i cannot handle this problem. My first idea was, that my drivers are not installed correctly. But programs like glxinfo and glxgears says that there is hardware rendering enabled and compiz also works fine. After some researches today i think to have a new idea for my problem.
First i need to say, that i have an Thinkpad T400 with onborad graphics Intel HD4500 or so on. On Ubuntu with wine there were no problems in using Civ IV and Warcraft III, but under Arch Linux i cannot get it to work correctly. The Ubuntu was also an 64bit version.
Is it possible that wine need 32bit libaries for the graphics driver because of the 32bit games? I have only installed the normal pacman packages for my system, which only compile the drivers for 64bit. If this can fix fix the problem. How can I install 32bit and 64 bit drivers on one system?
I am relativly new to Arch Linux, so pls tell me the right commands if you need mor informations. And thank you for your issues.

This is almost definitely the problem. First, add the new [multilib] repo (see the news page for how to do this). Then run pacman -Syu lib32-intel-dri (assuming you are using the 64-bit intel-dri. otherwise you may have to build something from the AUR).

Random Shut down and restart

Hello.
My dual 800 MHZ G4 has started randomly restarting and shutting down. Sometimes is stays on for hours, other times for minutes. After the restart, it goes through a series of "bongs" as if I were Zapping the PRAM.
Here are the system specs.
Dual 800 MHZ G4
768 MB RAM
OS 10.3.9
PCI card that allows 2 additional hard drives to be installed internally. And 2 drives connected to it.
Apple Keyboard.
Microsoft Intellimouse
Viewsonic monitor
The current software configuration is, Standard clean install of OSX 10.3.9 and, World of Warcraft
No other software on machine.
Things I've already tried.
Replacing the PRAM battery
Clean format and install of OS.
Pressing the little black reset button on the main board.
Your first question is probably going to be, "What has changed since it last worked?"
Answer, nothing. There have been no hardware or software changes to the machine in over a year. I formatted the drive and installed OSX and Warcraft so my wife could have a machine to play on. It worked fine for months, then, BAM. Restarts and random intervals. I reformatted and installed again, same problem.
Keeping this machine running is vital. As long as she can play Warcraft, I can play Warcraft.

Hi all. Well first off, let me start by saying that my whole life I've owned PC's. And I'm not hacker Elliet. But I've gotten to know them pretty well. All the way from Windows 3.1 that came out a long time ago (more than 10 years ago)
So after a while of hearing about MAC's I decided to start small and get an iPod (since they are so popular here in NYC) and see what apple was about. Well I really saw that Apple had a great product and started asking about their computers. And did plenty of research. And before the new Intel Macs came out, I was going to get a powerbook. But I had a feeling a new laptop was coming out and waited a lil while and sure enough. The Macbook Pro came out. So I went out and did all my research (as to this being the first real purchase of a Apple product and knew about the possible implications of a new first gen Intel chip in a apple product litterally making history) I knew I might become a new beta tester.
So I started looking on these boards and did 2 weeks worth of hard research to see if the Mac Book Pro (MBP) was for me. And after all the problems i saw (ex: The whine, Right speaker distortion, heat coming from it, white line at bottom of screen, etc) I never saw or read anything about AOL connectivity problems. And I know, I know... alot of you are probably going to gripe and complain about AOL sucking and yada yada yada, but please. Cut me some slack. I actually like AOL. I got on it back in 92 when it came out, and really enjoyed it. And have been on it since. I like chatting on there, and so forth. And I hope you help with my problem instead of telling me to go get "a real ISP" I do have a real ISP, but I like my AOL too.
So now to my problem....
I have a Sony Viao 1.8ghz PC with 512 ram, 80 gig hard drive, 10/100 ethernet port. Connected to a Belkin Router (more info below on specs of router) connected to Opt Online Broadband Cable internet with VoIP. I use my macbook pro on the wireless network at my home.
I got a mac book pro 1.83 ghz running 512 ram on Tiger OSX 10.4.6 I thought that I would wait till a connectivity patch (which I thought would have been 10.4.6) fix the airport problems came out till I posted something. But now that I've tried everything, I'm hoping you open this thread and help me and possibly someone else out there as well. I just d/l'd and installed the 10.4.6 update last night and it did'nt help. So here's more info on my specs. I have a belkin router wireless G 2.4 ghz 54mbs router and I have configured the router with it's firewall, wap2 encryption (as it's the only selection the router has that is available that matches what airport comes with in encryption) I hid my network, and have tried to upgrade the firmware on the router.
Now Here's the real problem. I can connect to AOL on my MBP when I connect the actual ethernet cable to the MBP's Ethernet port (after I have let the cable modem do a hard reset to configure itself to a mac) I can connect to AOL. But when I disconnect the cable and return it to it's normal config, I can't connect to AOL. I can connect to the internet via safari, and firefox, and even AOL's IM on iChat. I can use Itunes all kinds of things. I can even play warcraft 3 wirelessly on battlenet. But connecting to AOL is a pain in the @$$. It's the only proggy I have that won't allow it to connect. I keep getting the error message "Your AOL connection ended because the AOL host was unable to start a new session. Please try to sign on again." Of course All i see for a while is the spinning black and white circle. And it goes through step 1 and 2, goes straight to 6. Then it goes blank, and BAM! That message pops up. And what's so frustrating is that I've tried every possible configuration on AOL, my router and even system preferences, for it to let connect. I even went into system preferences on the mac and went down the the Internet & Network "Sharing" icon and tried 100 possible combinations on that in the services tab, and firewall tab. I've turned them on, off, tried to make exceptions ETC. And no matter how much I play with the personal file sharing and windows sharing advanced settings and sigh every possible combination to make AOL connect via wirelessly. And nothing. I then even tried to fix the connection under AOL in setup. I've gone through and selected TCP Script, Airport Script. Cable Script, And practically every script I can think of. And nothing. I even went on to AOL and downloaded thier alleged fix to wireless accessing AOL. And nothing. I've been searching all over google, AOL's website, and all over these discussion boards and no mention of anyone even having the same problem. But please, someone out there with their infinit knowledge of how Macs run and having more experience than me, Please make this a good experiance for my first post on any board anywhere reguarding a mac. A MBP at that too.
An update to this, But amazingly enough, I actually got it to connect to AOL wirelessly for the first time yest. But I have no Idea how i did it. I tried for 3 hours to reproduce it and no luck. I was accessing my router at it's website config screen and somehow I clicked on connect to AOL and while it was trying to connect to it, i reset the router and BAM, it connected to AOL. And I was in shock. I thought I solved it. Somewhere while it was reseting the router it connected and stayed connected to AOL till I signed off and tried to sign back on to see if I could now connect, and guess what. The same dumb message keeps popping up "Your AOL connection ended because the AOL host was unable to start a new session. Please try to sign on again." And all I did was sign off to test it, thinking I had fixed the problem. I tried for 3 hours like I stated above, and BAM got it connected to AOL wirelessly again (somehow while the router was resetting). And thinking I fixed it, or figured out the trick to getting it to work, signed off... I kissed aol goodbye again. And have been unable to reproduce the "glitch". SIGH Can someone out there please help me?
I think I've made this message as detailed as possible, but please, can someone give me some constructive criticism on how to fix my AOL wireless connectivity problems. Do you know if it's my router? My MBP? AOL software? BTW, I got AOL software version 10.3.7 (Rev 4136.310 US) The latest version I D/L'ed from the AOL website. Anyone know If I should turn on or off some things such as personal fire sharing on, or firewall off or on? ANYTHING. Please. I've put alot of time into writing this post and making it as detailed as possible. And been having this problem for the past 3 weeks that I've had my MBP, and have waited long enough to use my AOL. If you need any further information or suggestions on making AOL work, please let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and I really appreciate all of you in the time you take in responding back in trying to help me. I'll be monitoring this post almost hourly. I FIXED IT!
FYI for the rest of you that might be having the same problem. DON'T USE A BELKIN ROUTER WITH AOL ON A MBP!!!!! It ***** wirelessly. or even hard connected, it won't connect. I went to best buy today, and got a refund on the belkin. I then went to J&R and got a D-Link router. And now it works perfect. I can now chat on AOL yet again, and I tried all the other web browsers I have and messengers, and warcraft 3 online via battlenet. And it works great. I want to give you guys a special thanks for taking time out to answer back to my post. FYI! Belkin wireless G routers do not connect you to AOL wirelessly on MBP's. No matter how much you mess around on them. I highly recommend a D-Link Router. They are easy to set up as long as you READ ( AND I MEAN IT!!!) read the instructions before you set anything up on it. Use the CD that it comes with, and you'll be good to go. Set it up and it works great Almost no dead zones in the house, and now I can use the MBP with all it's cababilities. Thanks people. I really appreciate it.
P.S. I called belkin last night when i decided to get a refund on my router for today and when i talked to the tech, after puersuading him to tell me the truth. And stop BS'ing me, he broke down and admited that AOL does not work wirelessly on MBP's. So to make a long story short this time, There you go. And one last note, I'm very happy now with my d-link router. I honestly thought it would suck. Not being a brand name router or anything. But amazingly, it works like a brand name item! How can I load an older version of OSX onto my iMac?

I have a Mid-2011 iMac running 10.7 right now. I partitioned the boot drive, creating a new space so I could load up 10.6 (in an effort to be able to play my older Diablo II and Warcraft games) but my retail CD version is not working. I did some research, and found that this is because my hardware is incompatible with the oldest versions of 10.6. What I am confused about, when reading through threads, is how can I get around this? Is there a way I can load up a newer version of 10.6 (like 10.6.3 or newer) onto this partition? Do I need an older Mac to do this (right now both my laptop and iMac are running 10.7 but I could always borrow my Mom's laptop for a bit since she is running 10.6.x)? Since I have a legal version of 10.6 I assume there is a way to do this, but I am not sure how to approach. I'm pretty knowledgeable with computers & technology, so I just need a general outline to get me started.
Any help from the community would be wonderful. Thanks so much in advance.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I'm not looking to replace my current operating system, because I primarily need to work out of 10.7. I just need the older version (basically dual boot, choose which operating system I want at startup) to occassionally play the games that are not supported in 10.7. Actually, I had heard of lots of people doing this but the responses were all over the place and I was hoping to get a concise thought of what will work for my specific scenario.
Unfortunately borrowing my mother's computer is not an option as she lives miles from me and I would never know when I have the time or want to play. Anyone who has played Diablo or Warcraft can sympathize, my mom would never see her computer again if I needed it to play these games.

I might try the external drive scenario, but was just hoping to be able to dual boot into 10.6 directly with the hard drive(s) in the computer because my USB and firewire ports are all taken with lots of other equipment (I'm a graphic/web designer so have 2 printers, wacom tablet, external backup, 2 large die cut machines and so much more already plugged in). I'm pretty tapped out on ports without using a hub and I don't like the way they work (too many years in technology knowing that direct connect is the best way to go).

IMac is overheating? Or is my Hard Drive dying...

So, I think my iMac is dying in some form or another, but I'm not sure if it's the hard drive, something heat related, or a combination of the two.
A preface: the machine is mainly used for the web, iTunes, and Warcraft, and I run iStat menus to keep track of system temperatures, etc. I run SMC fancontrol to keep the fans spun up when playing wow, and have noticed a significant difference in wows performance since beginning to do that late last year. Over the summer, I've noticed serious intermittent performance issues. Looking back, the common thread seems to be that I have issues when I'm not running the air conditioning, and the ambient temperature heats up over ~80 degreesish. The hottest I see my mac get when having these issues is ~135 (all temperatures are farenheit), and they seem to be substantially reduced below 125 degrees. Programs can take a while to launch, the system intermittently hangs, especially playing music or games, and beyond the stutters when playing music in iTunes or while playing wow, I find that the machine simply will not finish booting after being shut down if it's hot. I need to let it stay off for an hour or two and cool down to boot properly.
Running Apple Hardware test (on a hot machine) comes up with an HDD failure, and running disk utility fails to complete, or just doesn't even see the drive (if run from a cd while the machine is 'hot') - if I run both when the machine has cooled down, things pass with flying colors. The AHT error is: "4hdd/11/40000004: SATA(0 , 0)" - which, I'm presuming based on some googling means the drive is in fact, screwed. But it passes other times, so I'm just thoroughly confused. Will a new Hard Drive fix it? Should I be looking at something else?
This machine is out of warranty, and I'd /like/ to get it fixed for cheapish - any reccomendations? Was looking at this drive from Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218 , but I'm a few years out of the loop on messing with iMac innards, so tell me if that's a bad choice. (It's a 2.66 Ghz, Early '08 Aluminium model).
Attempts to back up the drive have been mixed - things move /very/ slowly sometimes, and occasionally flake out with an utterly uninformative error -26 after spending an hour copying (and we're talking trying to move 1Gb files over FW 800 - that shouldn't take a whole hour.)
Alternately, the issues I'm having seem to be significantly reduced in severity when the AC has been on for a while - iStat shows nothing running too hot (HDD sits around 95-110F, most other components the same, the outlier is the power supply which spikes to 120-130 when I'm playing a game or watching some HD video or some such.
Why would having the AC bringing the ambient temp down 5-10 degrees provide such a massive performance difference?

It could be the quite a few things, If you have an external drive FW800 why not install a system on that and run with that. If it still works when the machine is hot you have ruled out the mem/cpu/power supply and lots of other items. That leaves the disk and controller (the controller being on the mother board) and hard drive fan.
You should be able to check the fan, then you will need to spend on a disk but at least you will have ruled many items out before hitting the wallet. If the external disk works and if after changing the hard disk it still fails you probably have a controller fault, that would be expensive.
It may be worth trying to keep the machine cool when you have it fixed, it will extend the life of all the components.

Got a new hard drive, system now has very short freezes when being used

Hello there!
I recently got a new hard drive, 1 TB from 320, and i have been having an issue where the computer seems to freeze for about half a second and then go back to normal. This happens on multiple apps and accounts. i have had it happen in safari, firefox, Minecraft and warcraft 3. It seems to happen more when the system is under heavy use like if i am playing DvZ. Basically its like the display freezes and everything else keeps going. after about half a second or so the screen will jump to where it should be. This happens both in Minecraft and Warcraft 3. in safari it happens sometimes when i go back a page, it just kind of sits with the back button highlighted for a second then it goes to the previous page. Also sometimes when i scroll it takes a second or two to start scrolling.
The system itself is not freezing totally because stuff still happens when the screen is frozen, in Warcraft 3 units will jump to where they would be is the screen hadn't frozen.
I have tested it on multiple accounts so its not isolated to one account.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

i have a serious problem with my toshiba laptop model no L300 STN501 for over 1 1/2 years now...the problem come during start up..
when i'm about to start my laptop with ac power only, i noticed that the power supply LED is falshing and i hear sound of cooling fan also..

so the situation is i had to start my laptop using the battery first and after all loading up i plug it with power cord after a few times of trying..after few days i had send my laptop for repair since it already passed the warranty period..the tech guy told me that i had a problem with my motherboard (i.e shortcircut motherboard) but i not so sure because everytime when my laptop working fine i was able to play games like counterstrike and warcraft without hang or freeze...and i test all my hardware such DVD drive, card reader, USB ports and wireless ports..all working just fine even i post this massage using this laptop..if someone can tell me any advise or opinion regarding this i really appreciate..this thing only happen during start up...all the rest just find...

Yes, the battery is dead. Plug it in to a charger for a few hours.

Running 32 bit apps in arch 64[solved]

Ok just recently reinstalled my archlinux and im quite new to arch (had ubuntu erlier)
Now im going to try to install wow and warcraft 3 and therefore im using the guide at the wiki

to setup my system (so i can install wine and runt my apps like wow and warcraft 3)
when i start to make the dir and then tries to edit /etc/pacman.d/core with
nano /etc/pacman.d/core i find myself inside an empty file... and i get a feeling thats something isnt right
anyone who can help me with my problem didnt find so much on the forums

edit: think i solved my problem but found 10 others instead... prob reinstall and go for the 32 libs instead..

You problem having to do with the new pacman version 3.1no longer have a /etc/pacman.d/core file, so this is hardly a 64 bit fault.
What other problems you run into? Post them and we'll we if we can solved them.
