15 inch built-in battery

Hi all,
I have a few questions for you regarding the macbook pro:
1- Can I have your thoughts on when the built-in battery will be implemented to the 15 inch MBP? I myself think that it could become an addition when 10.6 is released.
2- I am about to go back to uni and want to buy the 15 inch MBP, do you all think I should wait until 10.6 is released, and if so, when do you all think it is coming? I am more inclined to wait until 10.6 comes out to see if the built-in battery comes with it, because I could use the extra battery life.
Thanks.

1. We don't know. You'll know if and when Apple releases it.
2. We only know that 10.6 is supposed to be released this year. We don't know if or when. If you wish to wait that's entirely your prerogative.
We cannot speculate about Apple's future products or software releases as it's strictly forbidden on the Discussions.

  • Could NOT move my 12-inch Powerbook G4 battery. what can I do?

After I realised that my 12-inch Powerbook G4 battery is too hot. One of my friends told me that there is a "PowerBook G4 Battery Exchange Program", but I could not remove the battery from my PowerBook. I took my PowerBook to the computer department within my college, but all the Computer guys (including a ACTC) could NOT remove the battery.
As you all know it is a very simple step for removing the battery, but I could not.
I can not view the model and serial numbers labeled on the bottom of my battery, because nobody can remove the battery from the computer.
I called the shop where I bought the PowerBook, they said the only way they can do it is: take the battery by force (the case would be broken), then use a new case, but I have to pay several hundred Australia dollars.
    What can I do?
I am in Melbourne, Australia. I bought the Powerbook at November 2004.
    Regards

This sounds like a defect and not something that would be caused by a user. I would call AppleCare and ask them what to do under these circumstances. If it is out of warranty and they refuse to do anything, ask to be transfered to Customer Relations. Be polite but firm and explain that this is just a weird occurance and not related to something you did. How could it be? Hopefully they can find a way to unstick it, either by talking to them or by sending it in. In addition if your battery is heating up, they may replace it due to that fact alone. Try to find a way to measure the heat it put outs before calling in. Hopefully this will work for you!

  • Lenovo S430 - disable built-in battery permanently?

    Hi!
just got my S430 this week. i love it except the built in battery.
i use it at home mostly so its plugged into the ac all the time.
I wonder if I could disable the battery so it won't be charging 24/7. dont really want that as it'll kill the battery.
or are there any set up in the power management to take the load off the battery?
    thx in advance~
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

won't be possible, unless you physically disconnect the battery. Also with the Lenovo Thinkvantage battery charger, you can set the charge threshold rate, so the battery won't charge all the time even if you are connected to the AC (the biggest benefits of Lenovo ThinkPad machine).

  • Disable built-in battery, will it extend its life?

    Hello people,
I am the owner of a Thinkpad S440. I love its battery life so I want to make efficient use of the battery. When I disable the built-in battery will the battery actually last longer since I don't use it?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Luciobolo,

As per the query we understood that you are looking for disable the internal battery for your ThinkPad X240.
Yes, you can disable it in BIOS mode, to perform the step please boot the system into BIOS mode go to config menu click on power option and there you will get a option to disable built-in battery, click on enter key.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Built In " battery ... what is the best way to deal with it ?

Hi ... I just bought this laptop envy6-1100se with a built in battery and I actually heard alot of diffrent opinions about the best way to deal with the battery and charging and I don't know what to trust to make my batterylife the longest   so hope u can help me with that .. I want to know also if there is any damage to the battery if I kept it plugged to Ac Power even after it's totally charged ... ??

You want to minimize the number of charge/discharge cycles so yes it is actually a real good idea to have it plugged in whenever you can. Just to illustrate, Samsung makes several models with integrated batteries and they actually have a setting in the BIOS where you can choose to cut off charging at 80% battery power. If it never goes above 80%, then discharging and charging below the 80% level never registers as a cycle. The battery has a smart chip that counts cycles. After a certain number, say 500, the battery will no longer work. This is to minimize the fire hazard from older Li-ion batteries. In other words, you trade runtime on a "full" charge for longevity of the battery. You might go from 5 hours to 4 on a single charge but the battery will last 4 years instead of two and a half. The battery can actually be replaced but it is a huge pain. The "Samsung" solution is not available on HP's that I have been able to determine.
So, as I said there is not much you can do except use AC power as much as possible and treat the battery like your life savings; use it sparingly.
And I recognize that when it comes to batteries on laptops, it is like a discussion of religion. There is more than one respectable opinion but this is mine.

  • Is it possible to disable built in battery in x240?

    Hello,
I was wondering if it possible to deactivate the internal battery in my lenovo x240.
I usually use t laptop every day  for 12h in a row and I am afraid I am messing up with the batteries , continuosly charging and discharching them. I'd like to use the laptop AV powered only , so I can keep it plugged to AV continuosly, without ruining the internal battery. Is it possible?
    thanks

  • Why no built in battery for the 15" ???

    My question is simple really.
Apple are touting the 17" built in battery as a breakthrough. So why hasnt the 15" got the same better capacity, greater cycle battery?

Not allowed to speculate as to why or why not here --
But in general, the unibody 17" was just released with the new battery -- Apple just did a 15" refresh in October 08 -- it won't get another major refresh for awhile -- and most likely in the next refresh, they too will have the built-in batteries...at least that is what Apple initially stated when they announced the 17" a few months ago was their plan eventually for the entire portable line.
But those will be rolled out in the coming years, not right away.

  • Mid-2010 unibody 15-inch  macbook pro battery life

The battery on my son's mid-2010 15-inch unibody macbook pro has a cycle count of 360 and shows its condition is "normal." What is the normal battery life on this computer? The reason I'm asking is that the trackpad is malfunctioning and he was told the battery could be the cause of the problem.

  • Replace built-in battery for Rebel XSI

Hi, My Canon Rebel XSI just stopped working. Would not turn on at all. I tried re-charging the battery and it still didn't work. A friend said that sometimes the clock battery needs to be taken out and put in again. I tried to find it. My manual says that the battery is built in. What can I do?

Even a bad internal "time/date" battery should not prevent the camera from working off the main/removable/rechargeable battery. (Date and time just need to be reset each and every time the camera is turned on... Tho it probably can be used without setting them, in which case the info in images would be wrong.)
The cameras that have a non-replaceable "date/time" battery seem to use one that gets recharged by the main battery each time it's used.
As you have already been advised, most likely you just need a new main battery, though a failing charger is another possibility.
However, has the camera been sitting a long time unused? I have seen batteries go so dead, that you need to run them through a half dozen or more charge/discharge cycles before they come back up to full power. First time charged, the camera might not come on at all or might turn off in seconds. 2nd or later charges each power up the camera a little longer, until finally it works more normally. I don't use the LP-E5 batteries, so am not sure if they do this the way some other batteries do.
Camera's die for other reasons, too. It would be great if you could borrow a known-good LP-E5 battery from a friend to try, before going out and buying new.

  • Built in battery on 17"??

That scares the pants off of me... I have an MBP from 2008 with a battery made by Sony that I just had to replace after 10 months and periodic calibration. New MBP's have batteries built in on the new flagship portable Mac?!? Are you serious? Does anyone else wonder / worry about this before the purchase of one of these? The computers are AMAZING... but you can't swap out the battery? So it becomes a paperweight like an iphone if it dies? Or.. you're looking at some super expensive repairs... YIKES.

Well, not really end of discussion - or perhaps I am semi hijacking the thread. The REAL issue here is how do you do an emergency shutdown. Now, iMac, desktop etc - that's an easy one - you pull the plug. The tried and true method for the laptop is you yank the battery out. I have had countless "hard freezes" for which the only way out was to cut ALL power - the restart.
I sure hope Apple had the foresight to include some type of hard reset or restart button. If not - that ten hours of battery life is going to seem like a long, long time.
Your issue is not an issue.
You can always force shutdown a Mac by holding down the power button until it completely powers off. It seems to have become an industry standard, because I've found that this works on many PCs too. I guess that makes that method "tried and true." It's been many, many years since the "pull the plug" or "remove the battery" was the only way to emergency shut down a Mac.
When necessary, you'll cut power on the new 17" the same way we always have with Macs: Holding down the power button for several seconds, without having to reach for, unplug, unlatch, or remove any hardware whatsoever.

  • MacBook Pro 15 inch mid 2009 Battery Life issue

Hopefully someone can give me some useful info on what to do!!
About 3 days ago I noticed that the battery status on my MacBook pro 15 mid 2009 changed to service battery.
I checked the system profiler and this is what I get:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 1430
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 1430
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 169
    Condition: Check Battery
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1130
    Voltage (mV): 11895
I have tried resetting the SMC to no avail and have also done a battery calibration. Surely this is not normal.
Lastly, I have no extended applecare, and the 1 year warranty ran out about a month ago (yay!).

    Hi Nick
That seems unusually low cycles for a failing battery - contact apple customer support, despite the warranty and/or the seller, depending on consumer law in Australia.
There was an apple mention of expected minimum battery life somewhere, - not sure if it applied to your model... hopefully someone'll recall the link.

  • Replacing the built-in battery

How long before the battery needs replacement? I heard I must return it to an Apple Store. Since this is my only phone, what am I supposed to do in the meantime? Does Apple lend me a new phone to use? I also heard that all my stored data will be lost, including my 2,000 photos as well as stored numbers, messages, etc. Why couldn't it be made so the owner simpley replaces the battery? Maybe they don't want us having access to the inside. Is there also a replaceable SIMS card there, too?

I don't even no where to begin here...first, quit worrying...you'll be replacing your phone before the battery dies. I've got an original iPhone from 2007...the battery is still going strong. Further, most of the info you've heard is simply false. Enjoy your phone & find something else to worry about.

  • PowerBook G4 17-inch built-in wireless

My PowerBook G4 17-inch has suddenly lost all range on its wireless. I now need to be within 3 feet or so of the Airport Express. My local apple store wants to replace the Airport card but I think it's an antenna problem. Any ideas, or otherwise, which PCMCIA card should I get that's definitely compatible?
    PowerBook G4 17-inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi,
You have to be firm with them. Bottom line, Is your Powerbook still covered under apple care?
If so, YOU DEMAND that they fix the problem. If they want to change the airport express card, what does it matter to you? If that is NOT the problem, and it still doesn't work, Apple is OBLIGED to honour the terms of their agreement, under apple care and fix your powerbook or replace it.
My experience with customer service representatives is that you have to be firm. With each objection you receive, you raise your voice, UNTIL you become so loud, that you are turning away customers. You'll see how fast at that point that they are willing to help you out. Having said all of that, have you tried calling apple? I've called them a few times and they seem very helpful on the phone.
If your PB is NOT covered under warranty ....well, then your screwed. But if it is, THEY HAVE TO FIX IT. YOU have to DEMAND it.
Hope it all works out for you!!!!
