15'' Macbook Pro - LCD Screen Crack (Internal)

Hi All,
Help me out with my issue here. I bought a 15'' mac book pro (retina display) an year ago and it is still under the initial one year warranty. One day, while browsing, my screen started flickering suddenly for no reason. There was absolutely no external damage at all. I took it to the near by Apple store and was told that it will be taken care of as it is still under warranty. The guy who was helping me out at the store verified everything for any kind of physical damage and he could not find any. He mentioned the same thing in his notes and told me that it will be taken care of within 5 to 7 business days.
Today, I got a call from Apple store saying that there is actually a crack inside and it's no more eligible to get it repaired under the warranty and told me that it will cost around $750 to get it fixed. I was never told about this verification thing by a repairing service company in any of the interactions I had at the store. This is totally ridiculous. Why would there be a crack inside without having any kind of (not even a little crack externally) external damage?
What should I do now? I am not at all convinced with the reason that they are coming up with now, especially after handing it over after complete verification for any kind of physical damage. There is a reason why some one would go for Apple and I think the customer service is one of those undoubtedly but after today's experience, I definitely have to rethink about it.
Thanks in advance !

Hi,
I also have exactly same problem. Apple service centre has given me written response that it's due to pressure. They have ALSO mentioned explicitly  that there is no external physical damage after complete inspection . I am not able to understand how can this be classified as abuse or accident when there is no external physical damage at all. They are insisting it's internal physical damage.  Can someone explain me how individual can do internal damage without a screech or any external damage ?
Just for background , my pro was working fine till yesterday and when I opened it this morning it had that internal damage. To me it's clearly manufacturing defect and should be covered under warranty.

  • Have you had New MacBook Pro retina screens crack?

I have a new MacBook Pro and all of a sudden the screen cracked. I haven't dropped or done anything to it. Has a anyone had that problem?

You should buy a hard case to protect your mac book. The hard  case clips on to the Macbook pro 15 inch . I have a hard case and a soft "incase" as well, which i bought from the apple store for when i carry my Mac Book retina. I understand you can buy screen to also stick onto the front screen to protect the LCD.

  • MacBook Pro Retina screen cracked on it own while I was watching youtube.

I purchased it on April 2014 from Executive Machines Dhaka, Gulshan Branch. Everything was working fine until 23 feb 2015. While me and my family were watching a youtube video on it, the screen started to crack from upper left side of the side. we all watched how the screen cracked from left to middle to the right.
We all were in shock! In my entire life I have never seen such things. A screen cracked by it self!!! Anyway after that not the 24 feb, I went to dealer as I had free service of one year left. The guys at Executive Machines were shocked as well and said they never seen such things before and they will send the Mac to Singapore to get it checked. So did the paper work and left it with them. 3 weeks later, they notified me that Apple said NO!!
So the fact here is, I didn't drop it nor damaged it in other means. 5 people in the house watched the whole thing live!!! If it was done me then there must have been damage marks, when I mac is fully fresh!!!! the saddest thing when I collected the Mac from Executive machines the screen started having black marks on the upper and lower side of the screen.
This is the most shocking thing that ever happened in Tech using history and I keep wondering who's fault was it!!! Executive Machines received a mac with a mark on the screen and returned me with black marks and ''they said''  Apple said NO!!
I tried to upload photos from 23 feb but something was wrong!!
It would very nice If anybody from Apple contacts me and we can talk about the whole thing.

  • Macbook Pro LCD Screen Works Sometimes / On/Off

For several months my (late 2007, 15 in) macbook pro screen was not working at all. I took it to apple at one point and they said I would need to replace my screen which would cost at least $400 or $600 I can't remember how much. I just knew it was too much.
Then recently I found out that my model had the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor and Apple found out those had a problem in a number of those computers so they are supporting it by replacing the mother board.
So... I got my new mother board recently but the screen was STILL not coming on at all after the repair. One conclusion was obvious I needed a new screen or just use the computer as a desktop with an external monitor which is what I've been doing.
    So now, here's the rub:
My SCREEN MAGICALLY HAS COME BACK ON just last night and this morning... it was working and then Poof it went off again.... now again it's magically come back on.
When working there isn't any streaks or anything that appears damaged on the screen at all. My guess is that there is some cable or some connector point that is loose and somehow like a short makes it go on and off.
Now, part of what has been going on since yesterday is that I just replaced my hard drive so I've had the cover of the computer off... somehow I did something to they keyboard so I'm having to use an USB keyboard right now (might have to replace that too). So... somehow my taking off the cover and putting it back on a few times must have touched something that is making it work again.
What could it be? Any ideas? I'd be grateful for any advice that would keep me from having to try buying a new screen as I understand I have to replace the whole piece.
    Thanks,
    phil

That's a very interesting offer. There are a finite number of LCD manufacturers, and it could be there are models that can go in different computers. The construction of the display and the cables would be different for different computers. It would depend on whether the LCD is specifically configured for Apple or if Apple uses an "off the shelf" LCD and then configures the housing and cables.
Generally, in manufacturing, you try to use as many off the shelf parts as you possibly can. For example, you would use standard screws and fasteners unless you had a special need for a non-standard one. If there is already a LCD on the market that meets your specs and your needs, then it would make sense to use it rather than to have something special made.
I still suspect that the problem will turn out to be a connection one rather than one with the LCD itself. There have been cases where the flex cable developed damage from opening and closing the computer. This would be the first thing to check. A break in the trace or traces in a flex cable would allow for intermittent working of the LCD, depending on whether the broken traces were touching or not.
If the price sounds reasonable, then it sounds like you don't have much to lose by letting the guy have a shot at it. I wonder if he would let you watch while he works--it might be very illuminating.
    Good luck!

  • The plastic hinge between my screen and the computer (macbook pro retina) is cracked and doesn't hold the screen anymore? Can Apple change it?

The hinge between my screen and my computer (macbook pro retina) has cracked and doesn't hold the screen anymore. Can I fix it without changing my screen. And if it's still on guarantee does Apple have to repair it?

Apple can fix any and all of their computers.  Whether it would be charged to you would be the question.   Do you have AppleCare?
Accidental damage is not covered by AppleCare.
    How old is this computer?

  • MacBook Pro Retina Display - Crack/Pixel explosion?

A week or so ago I noticed what looked to be a spec of dirt on my 6 month old MacBook Pro retina screen.  However it actually is some sort of chip/crack in the display.  There are a few pixels which are now permanently white and you can see the hole with the naked eye and feel it quite easily.  It almost looks as if a pen or something has been jammed into the screen but I take good care of my MacBook and haven't caught anything on the screen as far as I'm aware.
I did a search on here and saw that several people have reported "pixel explosions" where dead pixels have burned a hole into the screen.  I took my MacBook into the Apple with printouts of several discussions of others reporting the same problem with a hole in the screen but the Genius refused to do anything in my case.  She basically said it was impossible for the hole to be anything but my fault despite the forum threads I showed her.  Is it worth me taking it into a different Apple store for a second opinion or am I stuck with this annoying hole in the bottom left of my screen forever?

I just found out the same thing on my MBPr tonight, acturally i got three this holes two small and one big one, I'm very disappointing, I have been searching and there are many versions of the solutions, some lucky people manage to get replaced, but some people like you didn't convince the genius people for a replacement, have you tried different apple store yet, maybe it depends on the people's mood at the apple store, I'm going to try my luck next Monday, finger crossed, I think i will definitely try different store if i cannot get it replaced, hopefully i will show you my good news. otherwise i will be very sad if i can get it replaced, I'm the Sheldon Cooper(from "bigbang theroy") kind of people, and i will be stare at the point forever and frustrated.

  • My Macbook pro desktop screen is white.

My Macbook pro desktop screen is white. I had it hooked up to my TV and it went white. Everything works except the desktop is white. The launch pad works and the top menu.

    Hi Maclover222,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you only see a white screen on your MacBook Pro, the steps in this article can help:

I'd recommend starting with these steps:

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display Cracked, is it replaceable or Do I have to replace the Whole Laptop?

Hi, I bought a Macbook Pro Retina about two months ago....
And a few days ago I cracked the Display on the Bottom Left Corner (3 inch)...
Now I am getting vertical and Horizontal Lines.....
I called a Apple Premium Reseller they told me I have to repalce the whole **** Laptop... is it real or I can just change the Display assembly only?
If so How much will it cost?

Assuming that it is just the screen that is broken, it should be replaceable, but it will cost a lot. (How much I don't know.) Of course, if you dropped it or something similar, there could be all manner of other damage that you can't see. I dropped my previous MacBook Pro (didn't crack the screen), and when it finally failed, the diagnosis was a damaged logic board, and the total repair cost would have been over $1,000, with no guarantees that other components might not also be damaged. I opted to simply replace the machine rather than pay that much and run the risk of other expensive repairs in the future.

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

hm... Is there any chance of making the bootable usb file and send it by dropbox or something like that? than put it in a pen drive and connect to the mac??
Sending by Dropbox where, To who, to what computer? As your does not start up.
You need to take at least the OS disc to a work Mac computer and create DMG from the OS install disc then restore that DMG to USB thumb drive. Then you can boot the computer from that thumb drive and install the OS. That is if your hard drive is functioning correctly.
Then you can use the App disc in the external CD/DVD drive to load up all the included Applications that come with your version of OS X.

  • When starting the macbook pro, the screen was flashing black and white, then to color to color, any suggestion to fixing this problem?

When i am starting the macbook pro, the screen was flashing black and white, and then to color to color, and the whole process repeat all over again, is there any suggestion in solving this, or is there no way to solve this and i need to bring it to the apple support?
    My computer Spec:
    Macbook pro Version 2011

Sounds as if you're having a problem with your GPU (graphics card). Only Apple can diagnose and fix this, so the best thing would be to take your machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP.

  • Macbook pro doesn't recognize internal speakers

my macbook pro  doesn't recognize internal speakers and there is a red light inside the headphone port.  How can I get the speakers working again?

In addition to what dominc23 suggests, you may try jiggling a toothpick or cocktail stirrer in order to trip the internal switch.  If all fails, the Apple store genius bar is you last resort.
