15" MacBook Pro (mid2010). I need to replace the battery.
I have inherited my deceased brother's 15" MacBook Pro (mid2010). The battery no longer keeps a charge, so it must stay plugged in. Can I change the battery myself? If so, must I use an apple battery to replace? Please advise.
Apple will not sell you one of their batteries for you to install. They insist on installing it for you.
I have seen on Amazon what appear to be OEM graymarket Apple batteries. If you do choose to purchase one of them, be advised that you will need a #0 Triwing driver to perform the installation.
ciao.

How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?
How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?
There are a few ways (none of which are covered in the above link). On more recent OS X versions, when you click the battery icon in the menu bar you may see a "Service Battery" or "Replace Now" message. If you aren't seeing that, the system probably thinks the battery is fine.
Also, in your System Information utility, there is a Power section that provides Health information for the battery, with a Condition status and Cycle Count. If the Condition is Normal and your battery is under 300 cycles (for removable batteries) or 1000 cycles (for non-removable batteries) it is not time to replace it yet.
But of course, the other time to replace it is if you don't think you're getting the runtime you want out of it.
If none of those is a problem, don't worry about it. -

I have an iphone 4s that is over 2 years old. The phone's battery is no longer able to hold a charge for an acceptable length of time. Assuming I need to replace the battery, how much will this cost at an Apple store?

Basically, I'm new to Apple, despite using them before, but I've never actually owned my own.
Since buying this phone off a colleague at work, I seem to be having problems with it. First, I noticed how rubbish the battery life is, then my charger almost went up in flames and thirdly my camera lense is scratched beyond belief.
I know the phone isn't within warranty, although I was lead to believe it was before and during buying it, so basically I'm extremely disappointed with the general make up of iPhone's considering they cost such a **** of a lot of money, you'd think they'd be built to last.
Back to my main point, how much would it cost for a new battery? Or a new camera lense if anyone can help me with that? (I know that the back of the phone was refurbished just before my buying it, so literally just the camera lense)
Thanks!
So basically it sounds like you bought an abused used iPhone and somehow that makes the phone subpar because dispite the abuse it should still last forever and look like new? Batteries don't last forever, even under ideal conditions, so your expectatoins are unrealistic. Take it in and have an estimate done. -
My macbook pro doesn't turn on. The battery is charged but the screen stays black when I press the power button. Anybody has a solution for me please?
Try a #1 SMC Reset and see the Apple links, if that doesn't work make a appointment for a evaluation.

Does the battery charging in the macbook pro retina automatically cut off when the battery is fully charged? or does it continue charging? In which case,is it better for the battery life to switch off the power supply or leave it on while using the macbook?
Yes, and the pilot light on the MagSafe2 connector changes from orange to green. If you unplug, you will start draining the battery again, whereas if plugged the Mac will take power from the brick and leave the battery in a charged state.

This isn't reference in any of the online support material that I've seen. Do you have a link to support this? Just curious is all.
I had a similar issue on my wife's '09 MBP. Initially I thought it was the battery seeing as it's an older machine, but we tried resetting the SMC (after a bunch of other suggestions) and that seems to have done the trick. -

i have a late 2008 macbook pro. it freezes-up (more like slows down) for just a moment every 5 seconds or so. the problem has been there since i originally purchased it, but due to school, i never got around to fixing it til now. i've taken it in to apple several times (6 or 7). this last time i was there, they replaced the logic board, harddrive, and ram, and even the screen (for hot spots, unrelated). but no success. it hasn't gotten any better at all, and now, in addition to all that, the screen blacks out occasionally too.
does anyone have any idea what's happening here? where else could the problem be?i have a late 2008 macbook pro. it freezes-up (more like slows down) for just a moment every 5 seconds or so. the problem has been there since i originally purchased it, but due to school, i never got around to fixing it til now. i've taken it in to apple several times (6 or 7). this last time i was there, they replaced the logic board, harddrive, and ram, and even the screen (for hot spots, unrelated). but no success. it hasn't gotten any better at all, and now, in addition to all that, the screen blacks out occasionally too.

Macbook Pro Shuts down when running off the battery...
Im have the late Macbook Pro 15" and I have had it for a year now. When im running my macbook off the battery it shuts down... I have no clue why. It started doing this about 4 or 5 days ago. I have my battery info here.

I noticed that the Full Charge Capacity is not that high compared to other macbooks. Could this be the reason why its shutting its self off? Also i copied this info while i was plugged into the AC adaptor. It also says that its fully charged but the percentage on my macbook reads 97%...
I also installed 4GB ram in it 4 months ago and never had this problem. Could having the new ram in it be draining the battery?
If someone could help me with this extremely annoying problem it would really be appreciated. Thank you for your time.I am having the same problem. I just recently noticed that my battery life was less than an hour. In the beginning, I was able to watch 3-4 complete movies while on a flight. Now, it shuts down if on batteries within 10 minutes while the Bar shows 59 minutes.

As you can see, I have only 57 cycles on this battery. I cannot do anything on battery power only anymore. I spent all morning draining the battery to 0 (all lights on battery off) When the battery is charged and when on battery power, the computer will shut off. The battery charge indicator LEDs on the battery itself has 4 of 5 solid and 5th one blinking. The computer will not power on for about 5 minutes when on battery power only. I bought this MBP about 15 months ago. Any help would be appreciated -
Macbook pro 5,3 will not charge the battery
the 85w charger will not charge my macbook battery, the indicator turns orange indicating that its charging, but the battery charge level does not increase. either its the charger or its the battery not accepting a chare.
is there any way to distinguished between what one it is other than purchasing a new charger?See Step #1 for power/battery issues. Do a SMC Reset.

My Macbook Pro 2012 is painfully slow and the battery dies out really fast
I don't do a lot of downloading or installing on my computer, I basically just use it to browse the internet or use microsoft office. I haven't used much memory and all the specs on my computer seem fine. I recently went to the genius bar at an apple store and they ran a bunch of diagnostic tests but everything seemed to come up normal. I've backed up all my data and even restored my computer to factory settings. However, my computer still has the same problem. I was told I didn't have any viruses or malware/adware problems and the only reasonable solution the genius bar representative told me that it was tiem to upgrade. However, since these laptops cost over $1,500 new I don't think that's a reasonable solution for me. So if anyone could shine a light on what is possibly happening that would be awesome!
Thank you!Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite

MacBook Pro Early 2011 doesn't recognize the battery
Yesterday I wanted to update my RAM from 4GB to 8GB. So I did it. But my MBP can't recognize my battery.
It shows X on menu bar.
And here is screenshot from System Report:
I have now 8GB RAM but it lags as it has, like, only 1GB.
It shows green light on MagSafe.
I am sure, that it's not battery problem, because it has only 147 cycles.
So guys, what can cause this problem?
Thanks in advance. And also fans are always working.
I tried SMC & PRAM reset. Still nothing.
I don't have authorised reseller here in my town so I don't know what to do.
I can't back up my Mac because Time Machine was turned off. -
