15" macbook pro power adapter problems

I have read that the new power adapters for the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro's will not fit my early 2008 15" MacBook Pro.. yay or nay? Does anybody know? Mine has pretty much bit the dust and will hardly keep chartging my battery anymore, have to wiggle the cord to get the light on etc.. so I was just going to buy a new one but then I sawe issues about it fitting early 2008 models...
Anybody have an answer?

They should fit. Just stop by an Apple store and check it out.

You'll certainly need a new logic board.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them evaluate the problems and give you an estimate for repair. If you're out of warranty, be prepared to pay a very high price to get your computer repaired.

  • Using Macbook Pro Power Adapter on a Macbook

I have a Macbook Pro and someone else in my family has a Macbook. Recently they misplaced their power adapter and started borrowing mine to use until theirs was found. I was uneasy about it, but it seemed to work okay. I know that the adapters are slightly different but will it hurt the Macbook to use a Macbook Pro power supply?

It's fine. The MB will only draw the power it needs. FYI, the MBP adapter is 85 W, the MB's is 60 W.
    Hope this helps...

  • Replacing the MacBook Pro Power Adapter Port

There's a short in the adapter port. I have to keep the cord sitting just perfectly to make sure it's running off the adapter or off the battery. The battery has needed to be replaced for a while so when the adapter shorts and it switches to battery power it will shut down before I notice.
Any idea on how expensive it is to replace this adapter? I've never had anything on the inside of my macbook repaired. I bought this 4 years ago so I'm hoping it's not the end.
    Thanks.

  • 13 in macbook and macbook pro power adapter

I have a macbook from late 2006 and a new macbook pro 13 inch. The power adapters look the same and have identical specs printed on them as 60 W adapters etc. The tech specs read as identical power supplies also. Are they indeed interchangeable and identical?

Yes, you can use them, no problem!
I had a Black MacBook from 2006, and I use that power adapter with my 13" MBP all the time. Its great because I can keep one at home wired to my desk, and one in my bag. I no longer need to unhook things. Its so nice to have an extra!

  • 2010 Macbook Pro Power Adapter broken?

We have a 2010 Macbook Pro 13" that was working perfectly fine since we bought it last June. What a surprise, just out of the 1 year period and suddenly the power adapter starts to malfunction. One day we noticed that the charger was plugged in but the light wasn't on and the battery icon showed the computer wasn't charging. I unplugged and replugged the plug into the wall a few times and finally the light came on and the computer showed a charging symbol. The next day when we plugged the charger in again the light again didn't turn on and computer was not charging. We tried jiggling the plug and replugging it and after many tries was able to get it working again. This has been going on for a few days now.
Today while the laptop was plugged in, it suddenly crashed, rebooted itself, and the date/time was reset to many years ago. Wifi didn't seem to connect for a while, but eventually it did and it seemed the date self corrected. Tonight, we have been unsuccessfull in coaxing the charger to work and finally decided to post here. Since we are out of our 1 year limited warranty, we are no longer eligible for Apple Care or charger replacement. Do we have to shell out the $79 for a new adapter? Is it really the adapter that is broken, and not the macbook? I've seen some other similar issues posted on the board but didn't really find a solid answer to the problem.

This has happened to me too, at least a couple times.  I think that one problem is the power adapter cord is not designed for repeated twisting and bending.  It should be, but it isn't.  From now on, I will be gentle with it and that may prevent failure.  Be careful with the LED (green/yellow light) end.  Do not bend it much from the end to a couple inches from the end.  Apple's peripherals (ear buds, power adapters, etc.) do not measure up to the standards of its iPods, iPhones, and computers.  They never have.  It's frustrating.

  • My Macbook Pro power adapter is not working

I have had my MacBook Pro for less than 1 year and I only use it to get to Uni and back. I leave the adapter at home and unplug it when I'm not using it, but lately it has decided that it doesn't want to work and hence I cannot charge my laptop. Is there anything I can do other than spen $90 on a new charger?

If your computer is still under warranty, so is the power adapter. Make an appointment at an Apple store or call AppleCare.

  • MacBook Pro power adapter doesn't show green light when fully charged

I've had a quick search through the communities and there are a lot of posts about chargers and indicator lights, but I'm not sure I'm really satisfied about my own issue so I thought I'd ask anyway.
Basically, I bought a spare power adapter (genuine Apple 85W MagSafe2) for my new 15" Retina MacBook Pro in a store the other day, to save me lugging my main adapter to and from work all the time.
Using it for the first time made me realise that the adapter I got with my MBP behaves slightly differently re: the LED indicators. The new one from the store shows amber until the MBP is fully charged, then solid green once fully charged. This I believe is perfectly normal.
The charger I got with the MBP shows amber whilst charging, but only shows green very briefly when fully charged and then the indicator goes out completely. OSX (10.8.2) still indicates that it is connected to the power source though, and the battery doesn't drain or anything at this point - it definitely appears to be functioning as expected.
Aside from this, I can determine no real difference between the two adapters in terms of charging speed or general functionality, they both appear fine.
I just wondered if anyone else had ever seen this?
I did reset the MBP's SMC settings too, but it made no difference. I'm inclined to think there isn't an issue with the laptop itself since the new adapter's indicators work exactly as I'd expect, but then again the original adapter seems to function perfectly so I'm wondering if there's just some trivial issue with the green LEDs or something like that.

Really doesn't matter if anyone else has or has not seen something like what you have. Your original adapter is faulty in one way or another and you should take it in to Apple with your rMBP to show them what is happening and Ask Nicely for a new one that works correctly.

  • Macbook pro Power adapter disconnects

After charging the macbook and then disconnecting the power adapter, but I still leave the adpater plugged to the wall, it appears it just stops working or it shuts itself off. When I plug back in again after several hours there is no juice to the laptop. I have to disconnect from the outlet and wait for 5 minutes then I can get power flowing again. Not sure if it a safety feature or mine is defective. Can others verify this on their Macbook. Please let me know....Mark

Went to apple store yesterday, they tested the adapter, of course it worked in front of them However whilst explaining the intermitent nature of my power supply a guy working in the 'genius bar' in the store said that his own MBP had the same problem, he had changed the adapter and it had been fine since. When my guy heard this an exchange was offered straight away and they even took one off the shop floor as they didn't have one in stock and I have to travel before they could get one sent. So the moral?
    Be lucky.
p.s. Also mentioned excess heat - which the guy said they could fix if I left it with them, so seems they are well aware of the paste problem.
p.p.s. shut down problems are the fault of software and should be remedied with a forthcoming update......(yeah right).

  • 15" MacBook Pro Power Adapter gets very hot.

I have a 15" MacBook Pro that I am using the older charger with the adapter from Apple.  The adapter is getting to a measured 137.9 degrees, a.k.a. HOT.  Anybody have any thoughts on this?

A lot of people report this. Try turning the connector 180 degrees and cleaning the terminals. Apparently that helps in most cases

  • Macbook Pro Power Adapter

Just a quick (and probably very easy) question: If I am using my Macbook with the power adapter plugged into it, am I running off my battery or the power adapter?

Technically both until the battery is fully charged. But the moment you unplug the computer, you are back to running off battery. Note how batteries work on this page:

  • MacBook Pro -power on problem

It will then work Ok but will run slow at times and radomly clicks then crashes.
Any ideas on what this can be and potential fix. Thanks.
