15" new battery

Hi,
Purchased my MacBook Pro last November. It comes with the 50mw rechargeable battery, model no. A1281.
Anyhow. The new MacBook Pro's come with the 73-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery, when my current battery is exhausted and I want to buy a new one, can I fit the latest 15" battery into my MacBook Pro?

Since you are still under warranty, call Apple & ask them.

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?

The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

    This is from Apple.
2 to 3 hours seems very low.
what is teh standard or advertised spec for a 15 inch Macbook Pro with this battery.
I would like to know so that i can return it if this is not normal.
Its expensive so comments would be appreciated.

I say it depends on your model? average usage is about 3-4 hours depending on what you use and how you use it. Adobe Flash player eats a lot of battery power so if you are on a web page and has flash player, likely that it's eating up battery because of it's power thirsty.
Also check your systems activity monitor. It could be possible that one of your program/apps did not close right and may be still running. So check for that and end the process if necessary.
If you have a backlight keyboard, in a broad daylight, it's not necessary to have it on.
I also suggest that you use it plugged in most of the time, and it's not going to hurt or damage the battery if you have it plugged in all the time. Only use on battery if you are going to places that has no access to the outlet. If you are at home, then keep it plugged in. Just keep in mind to fully drain the battery until it your MBP turns off on it's own. This is the calibration process so that you have the most accurate battery readings.
The standard for 2011 MBP is 7 hours on battery. Before that model is 10 hours, but i don't believe that previous models will last 10 hours. Last week I calibrated my battery readings from fully charged and it took 9 hours to completely drain out the battery (I have a 2011 model),
If you think it's not normal and that your battery doesn't meet your expectation then set up an appointment with the genius bar and have them test the battery. They will determine whether it is faulty or not.

  • New battery lasts 1.5 hours...

I recently noticed the battery in my 7 month old MBP was not holding a charge for much more than an hour and a half. I took the machine into the Apple store where a Genius said he could find nothing wrong with the battery. He asked me to diminish the brightness of the screen, be mindful of running too many applications at one time and use wi-fi only when necessary. And he told me that the advertised 'up to five hours wireless productivity' for my machine was a 'perfect world' scenario, unlikely to be repeated in the real world. He said I should probably expect 2-3 hours of battery life on a full charge.
Within a few days I was back in the store complaining that after making those adjustments I was still getting the same battery performance...about an hour and a half of wireless internet off a fully charged battery. The same genius I saw previously handed me a new battery and said my problem should be resolved with the new battery.
I went home, calibrated the battery and charged it overnight. The next morning, I disconnected the power adaptor and the computer said the battery was fully charged and had an hour and a half of life...or almost 2 hours when I turned off the wi-fi. And that seems to be about what I am getting...an hour and a half of wireless internet or two hours of word processing. I think that seems really paltry and seem to remember getting about 3.5 hours of time playing a DVD when I first bought the machine.
Can anyone confirm for me whether or not I should be getting more than 1.5 hours of wireless internet or 2 hours of word processing (with wireless turned off)?
    Thanks!
Here are the specs for the battery I am using now:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 5262
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 5519
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 3
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -3094
    Voltage (mV): 12009

Yes, you should be getting more battery life than that.
Check Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor, set the popup to Show: Active Processes and click on CPU to sort. My guess is that there's a background process that's using a fair amount of CPU capacity, which definitely causes the battery to run down faster.
Failed print jobs, certain widgets, etc., are common culprits. If you find something, you can kill it with the Stop button.
    Hope this helps...

  • I have 1 GB RAM on an '07 MacBook Pro. 1) How do I check remaining memory? 2) I have Microsoft office 2004 - do I need to buy more RAM to upgrade to '11? 3) I need a new battery ... Is it worth the $$ to buy a new battery, RAM and Microsoft office 2011?

I have a MacBook Pro from '07 with 1 GB of memory. The battery is shot and my AppleCare has run out. I just upgraded the OS to 10.6.8. But a few questions:
1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11 because I can generate pdf's from Word. Roughly how much RAM does Office '11 take up?
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
ANY help would be sooo appreciated! Thanks.

1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
If you're asking how to check to see if you need more RAM, open Activity Monitor and go to the System Memory tab, then compare page outs and page ins.  If page outs is 10% or more of page ins, you probably need more RAM.
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
There's no limit on the number of battery cycles, it's just that the more cycles you've used the more "worn out" your battery gets.  You've got a 4-year-old machine, and if it's still got the original battery, it's probably about time for a replacement battery.  You can check battery health using System Profiler...  look at the Power section under Hardware.
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11
You don't need Office 2011 to create PDFs.  Any application capable of printing can create PDFs on a Mac.  Just choose File -> Print, but instead of clicking the Print button in the print dialog, click the PDF button and choose Save As PDF in the menu that appears.
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
I'll "ditto" sig's answers to these.
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
If Office 2004 is still working fine for you, stick with that and don't incur the costs of Office 2011.  As to the RAM, only add more if the test I mentioned above indicates that you need it.  If you buy more RAM when you don't really need it, you won't see much (if any) performance improvement.  That just leaves the battery...  and if the machine is still doing what you need it to do and you don't really need a new machine for anything, you could definitely buy a new battery and get a few more years out of it.

  • MacBook Pro 13 Early 2011 Battery Degradation to Not Detected, User Replaced New Battery also Not Detected, Please Help!

I have a MBP early 2011 13 inch and do not have Apple Care.  After I installed Mountain Lion I noticed the battery health was dropping pretty rapidly, with a service battery warning.  I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM and even a clean install.  I took it into an Apple store and they said I should have cycled it more, but I could still use it.  The health dropped and dropped until a battery would not even be detected.  Because Apple would not replace it for me for free and I didn't want to pay for them to do so, I bought my own battery.  Once I replaced the battery with the new one, it still says there is no battery connected.
When I detach the battery and then attach it again, the battery indicator lights on the side show 4 dots.  When I plugged in the MagSafe connector, the fifth light started blinking (I thought it was charging) and then it went back to all of them blinking indicating no battery detected.  The computer also automatically turned on when I connected the MagSafe.
I have tired multiple times to reset PRAM and SMC even after installing the new battery to no avail.  I can use the machine with the MagSafe connected, but as soon as the cord is unplugged or bumped, it goes into the emergency sleep mode.
Any thoughts on what might be ailing this not yet two year old machine?  My first Mac lasted 7 years before any logic board fail so I hope that is not it.  Anything I should try that I haven't yet?  Any ideas on what this might cost me through Apple?
    Thanks!

  • How can i buy new battery for my macBook pro in France

    Hello,
Please, someone can tell me how to find and buy new battery for my 2008 macBook pro in France ?
This one is very old, i already changed this battery one time, i think Apple store of town won't be ok to make the work cause i have made it myself one time before (it has fallen several times, almost broken, means impossible to shut the battery place but still working on). So i bought a battery to a third provider, wich doesn't work of course, try to ask to online assistance but i have to pay 30 € just to ask my question and i doesn't want...
SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO CHANGE MY BATTERY ??? HELP !!!
I bought it in 2008. I don't know exactly the serie. Just know it's a 2,4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo.
The reference of battery is A1281 10,8V 50 Wh. Can't find it on the store. The only one i found was on a website who didn't tell it's was a fake...
    Lost 85 €

Here are the International Apple support telephone numbers:

I note Egypt is not listed.
Purchasing a battery from a third party vendor is a high risk proposition.  Many such batteries have been found to be substandard.
I suggest that you try and contact Apple and see if you can have one shipped to you.
    Ciao.

  • I live in Ireland. How can I buy a new battery for my N500?

I need to buy a new battery for my Lenovo 3000 N500.   However, in the Ireland section of the Lenovo web site NONE of the dealers have this part in stock.   It is in stock on the US and UK sections of the web site, but apparently only people in those countries can buy it on line.   I would be prepared to buy it online from the US or the UK and pay the shipping charges to Ireland.  In more than 13 years on the web, Lenovo is the first company I've encountered where I haven't been able to use my credit card to purchase an item from the US or the UK.   I do this all the time with companies like Land's End, Amazon, James Meade etc etc.
Fine, if I'm not allowed buy from the US and the UK.  But at least, then, make sure I have some other way of buying the part - either on line or from a store.

    According to Apple:
    iPod Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $49 (iPod shuffle), $59 (iPod nano and iPod classic), and $79 (iPod touch) plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

  • My MacBook Pro laptop says 'service battery' and doesn't charge very well but my Mac is 5 years old. Is it worth buying a new battery or do you think I should buy a new mac?

    Hi guys,
I can only leave my MacBook Pro unplugged for an hour maximum and it never seems to fully charge. It says on the Mac to service battery - which I guess means buy a new battery.
I have had my MacBook for over 5 years now and it does get used probably every day, if not every other. If I brought a new battery would it all work normally again or is it getting old and do I need a new one?
Also, my charger seems to be playing up a bit now as well. It's seems to be temperamental when I plug it in and takes to while to light up and charge.  I've attached an image of the battery bit on my laptop as the lead seems to be fine - is this normal?
    Thanks in advance guys.

Is there any application(s) that your current Mac cannot run that only a new can?  Calculate the cost per year of your current MBP and compare that to the cost of a new battery.  Spread the battery cost over a year or two of additional operation, how do the dollar amounts compare?  If the MBP is functioning properly, I generally find it is more cost effective to keep it.
If the retina display and the SSD storage are very desirable from your perspective, then that becomes a different matter.  You are the one to make the final decision.
    Ciao.

I have just installed a new Battery after the old one showed (Not Charging) and when you clicked on this icon the dropdown"condition replace now". Problem now is the computer still shows the same message in the top bar (Not Charging) and the dropdown also shows "condition relace now". the magsafe show the greem LED i.e not charging, but providing power. If you disconnect the magsafe the computer powers off instantly confirming we have power. I have carried out resetting the SMC controller and still no change. Tested the standby voltage on the magsafe pins etc, all in spec. What should I do now, as I don't want to keep spending more and more. Bellow is the info from the system profiler.

  • I just got a brand new battery god my iPhone 4S at the apple support and it's still draining super fast

I just got my battery on my iPhone 4S replaced at the apple store and it's a brand new battery and I've had the battery for less than a week and it's already starting to drain fast just like my old one. I've been out of state for a few days. I don't know if that's part of the issue or not. Please help!!

In iTunes on your computer, select the Purchased section under STORE in the left column. Click on the first track and choose "Get Info" from the "File" menu.
In the "Summary" tab you'll see details of the purchaser of the track. Click Next to go through all your purchased music one by one until you find the ones you need to get rid of.
Unfortunately, there are no smart playlist rules that can filter tracks by the purchaser that I know of.

  • Satellite M45-S165 New Battery won't charge past 25%

    Hello,
This is a Satellite M45-S165 running Windows XP SP2.
I just put in a new battery from Technuity sold at Circuit City. Followed the instructions and let it charge for 10 hours before using it. The laptop was turned off while charging.
Turned on the laptop and Toshiba Power Saver said that the battery was only charged to 25%. It just won't let it charge any more than that.
I shut down TPS from the task manager and opened the Windows power meter on the control panel. After running on just the battery for a while I tried to recharge it. But the windows power meter is showing that the battery is charging, but that is stuck at 3%.
The battery is new, so any idea about what is keeping it from charging completely?
    Thanks.

    Hello
At first I must say that you have done everything correctly and this issue is probably not because of the battery (I hope you bought the right one). The question is is there some problem with power supply electronic.
You must understand that it is not easy to offer simply explanation to such issues and to find out what is wrong there it is necessary to run diagnostics program and check power supply electronic functionality.
This can be done by authorized service provider only. So you must make decision what to do. Make a call and ask them what can be the reason for this. Inform you what can be done with it. What else you can do?

  • IPod Nano 3G - dead as soon as taken off charger - new battery fitted

A couple of years ago my girlfriend won a 4gb iPod Nano 3G in a raffle. As we both had other iPods, it has been sitting in a drawer ever since. The other day I found it, and thought it would be useful for using in my car.
It was still sealed in the box - so I opened it, connected to iTunes, registered it, and synced it.
As soon as I unplugged it, the screen died. I couldn't get it to switch back on without plugging it in. When plugged in (computer or mains) it works fine. As soon as its unplugged it immediately switches off.
As it had been sitting unused for a couple of years, I presumed the battery was dead. I ordered a replacement from eBay - which arrived today. I soldered in the new battery, and left the iPod to charge for a while. The same again - when I disconnect it from the computer, it dies before I've even got the dock plug right out!!
Any ideas? I've tried restoring it with the latest firmware, and I've also tried manually resetting it using the Menu / Center buttons.

I have the same exact problem and situation, took it out of the shelf after two years unused! Any luck?

  • Is there a way to reset the battery to make it last longer without getting a new battery?

I have an ipod touch 4th generation 8GB and the battery was ruined by accidentaly overcharging it a few times. I was wondering if there was a way to fix the battery so it returns to the charge it is supposed to hold. I currently have without getting a new battery, or replacing it. Please respond.

Don't know of any way to "restore" a lithium ion battery like you could do when rejuvinating a nicad type battery.  If the lithium ion battery has reached a stage where it will not service the needs of your device, you need to replace it.
Usually the lithium ion batteries don't suffer much from overcharging because the proper charger will limit the charging current to a trickle.  Lithium ion batteries are more apt to suffer by letting it discharge to an almost zero state, and letting it stay that way for a period of time.

  • MacBook goes dead as soon as power cord is unplugged..time for a new battery or other problem?

For months now my MacBook has been iffy with the battery percentage. It will show 2hours then within the next minute 25 min then 10 minutes then it shoots all the way up to 3 hours. Now it won't stay on unless the power cord is plugged in...and says "not charging" at the top of the screen. Am I in need of a new battery? Or is it something else? Have never had this problem before...my MacBook is approximately 3 years old...
