15 second timeline won't play

Hello,
I'm making a DVD with four videos, each on their own timeline.
I had to add a 15 second message at the beginning of one video, so I figured the easiest way would be to make a slideshow with an end action of the video's timeline. It plays fine in the preview, but after burning a disc, I get an error from my dvd player.
I thought there might be a bug with the slideshow creator, so I made a 15 second clip in Premiere instead. Still plays fine in the preview, but the same error shows up on the player.
Any ideas? Is there a minimum timeline duration for set top players to be happy?
Thanks in advance!
Encore CS3

Older Sony players can be quite fussy. Maybe you are already doing this, but these general recommendations for optimizing player compatibility may help:
Use a
maximum bit rate of no more than 7Mb/s.
Let Encore convert the audio to Dolby Digital (AC3).
Use good quality DVD-R media, e.g. Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
Keep your burner's firmware up-to-date.
Burn at the lowest speed your burner allows. (With modern burners that is usually 4x.)
Never use adhesive labels on your discs.
On the off-chance that you were testing with a DVD-R that had nothing but the 15 second intro on it: It seems that since version 3 Encore doesn't "fill" short DVD-Rs up to the 1GB mark anymore. Some players need to have at least 1GB burned on a DVD-R (to perform a calibration check). If they find only empty space they assume an unreadable disc.
A possible workaround is to add 1GB of dummy data as "DVD-ROM Content" to your project.

I don't know what I did, but the timeline won't play the video now in CS4, only the audio.  It scrubs ok.
I cleaned the cache. I tried the loop button, opening another saved project, and starting a new one.
Priemiere Elements works ok.  I'm not sure what I did, nor what else to try to resolve this..

  • Timeline won't play video, only audio

I just switched computers recently (windows 7 to Windows 7) and when I re-installed Premiere CS5.5 on my new computer the video in the timeline wouldn't play.
The timeline video box just shows a media offline graphic even after all the media was reconnected.
When I press play, the playhead moves, but it will only play the audio and only shows the media offline graphic for the video. I tested a few of the clips to see if they'd play in the source monitor, and all of them played fine. It's just the timeline video window that won't play.
It started working yesterday for some reason I don't know, but when I reopened the program it was back to the same problem.
I've looked at a ton of posts, but none of them seem to have this same problem.

There are 2 main types of video in the project I'm editing: h.264 (MOV) from a Canon T3i DSLR, and MPEG-2 from an HDV Camcorder.  None of the videos will play video in the timeline monitor, but the playhead moves and the audio plays (the video just shows a media offline graphic, although all the media is connected).  All videos will play in the source monitor regardless of codec. This leads me to believe that codec issues are not the problem.
Graphics Card:  NVIDIA Geforce GT 620
    Graphics Driver Version: 9.18.13.3788
I have updated to the latest nvidia driver in the past week. There was another thread similar to my problem (http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/205/874787) where the guy figured out it was because he had 2 graphics cards, and that his timeline monitor was running off the wrong one. However, his description of what he did to fix it was not very clear, or at least not for my amount of knowledge.
There was another thread where someone said  to downgrade to an older driver, and that didn't work either. here's a
screenshot of what it looks like when I play a video in the timeline:

  • Color 1.5 timeline won't play when i hit the spacebar

sequence is from FCP, apple prores 422lt, only one video track, 2 audio tracks (a1, a2), 6 min long
the other projects that i have been doing with the same settings have played in color without problem.
would appreciate some help thank you

COLOR has some "transport" peculiarities, and one of the most important concepts to realize about the application is that it isn't Final Cut.
It is particularly Unix-like, in that some things have to be specifically selected or explicit events have to be invoked in sequence in order to work. For "Space-bar" to result in the sequence playing to preview, you do need a couple of things to be true -- you have to have selected the timeline as the active window and you have to be parked on media before anything will happen. You will also find that the JKL keys aren't always active, and neither are the step forward (>) step back (<) keys.
The only circumstances under which any transport commands are permanently eligible is when you are using an outboard control panel with specific Play/Stop/Jog buttons and/or jog wheel.

  • Clips from timeline won't play in source window.

About half the clips in my timeline open in the source window when I double click them.  I've tried reseting workspace, restarting everything.  Still persists.  Can someone help?
    Thanks!

Are they all regular A/V clips, or are any of them linked clips, grouped clips, merged clips, nested sequences, multicam sequences, or some other special breed?

  • Premiere Pro Timeline Won't Play

    Recently purchased a Dell Precision T5600 workstation - Win7 64bit, 32 GB of RAM, Quadro 4000 (driver ver. 307.45).  CS6 Production Premium.
Hitting the space bar nor hitting the play button on the program or source monitor will play a video or audio file.  Play icon changes to the square icon but nothing happens.  A week or so ago I had the same issue.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the suite to get it to work.  Now the issue has cropped up again.  Audition and AE seem to work fine.   Only seems to be an issue with Premiere. Any ideas?  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Clips suddenly won't play in iMovie

I have several projects I'm working on in iMovie. All of a sudden some of the clips that I'm using to create my projects won't play in iMovie any longer. When the project gets to the portion of the video where that clip is, the video freezes until the next "good" clip comes up in the timeline. All the while the music still plays over the frozen video. Also, the clips are taken from longer video clips that still play in iMovie. For example, in one case a video clip is 11 seconds long and I'm only taking the first 4 seconds. It is these 4 seconds that won't play. The rest of the clip plays fine if I bring it into the project but the first 4 seconds that I originally had in my project won't play no matter what I do. Thus I know it is not the format of the clips. Also, the clips still play fine in QuickTime, just not in iMovie.
I've tried suggestions such as deleting the iMovie preferences file (plist file), taking the movies out of the Movie folder, restarting iMovie, closing iMovie, moving my projects back to the Movies folder, and re-opening the projects to no avail.
    I'm using
    Mac Book with OS 10.6.4
    iMovie 8.0.6 (821)
    Quick Time 10.0 (114)

  • Won't play, won't update, won't do anything--help!

When I try to play music on my iPod, it just starts flipping through every song on the playlist, about one per second, and won't play anything. My mac also won't recognize it at all when I connect it. The "Do Not Disconnect" symbol is flashing on the iPod like it's connected, but nothing's happening. I don't get any frowny faces, just nothing will happen. I don't think it's the firewire connection or computer software because my housemate's iPod loads and works just fine. I reset the settings on the iPod but it still won't work.
    Any ideas?

    u]For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

I am editing on final cut x and two clips in my timeline won't play - they look dead or are faint and sort of a dark back colour  - what have I done wrong to make them refuse to play? Cant hear or see them on the viewer - even though they look(while a bit blackened out) to be still in the timeline?

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!! If your ever in Belfast dinner is on me x

I could not find an option to "report a problem".
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • I just updated and downloaded the new version of iTunes. I then downloaded some music and now the music won't play on my iPod or in my iTunes. The tracks play for a few seconds and then skip to the next track

I just downloaded and updated the newest version of iTunes. After updating I downloaded some new music and synced the iPod. The music doesn't play. It'll play about 30 seconds of the song and then skip automatically to the next song. I restarted the iPod. I restored it. It still didn't work. Then I tried listening to the music from my laptop straight from iTunes...and it's still doing it.
    How do I fix it?

I'm assuming the tracks that won't play copy/are displayed with exclamation marks. This happens if the files are no longer where iTunes expects to find them. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Premiere Pro and Soundbooth won't play video/audio for more than a second.

Ok, so my issue is that Soundbooth won't play audio for more than a second. It plays a quick bit then stops. Premiere Pro also does the same with video, it plays a quick bit then stops. I don't know if it is connected or not but when I try to change the audio output in Soundbooth to System Default I get this error:
I set the permissions to premiere and soundbooth to full but it didn't work. I've tried UnInstalling and ReInstalling but that didn't fix the issues either. All of the other programs seem to work. Any help would be much appreciated!!

    Here is the fix.
    1. Open Finder and navigate to /YOUR_HD/Library/Preferences
    2. Rename or move to the Trash the file:   com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist
    3. Relaunch The Program

Multiple dvds won't play.  Just make spinning noises for a few seconds then ejects.

Because this is affecting multiple DVD's it suggests a faulty drive. If you were willing to spend a few $ or € and purchase an external optical drive from any electronic shop, that would be a sound diagnostic step to take; possibly a solution and cheaper than replacing the internal drive if counting labour is a factor.

My movie won't play past two minutes and thirty-seven seconds. What do I do?

    Hello Bdev15,
I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too.  I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1725
If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network.  For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network.  Follow the steps in the section titled "iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch > Music" in the article below to download the songs:
