16:9 and television

hello, I did a compression of an 1hours45min sequence using final cut compressor with the settings best quality 120 min 16:9:.. It took more than 20 hours to finishing... once i burned the dvd , I noticed that in the televison I could see it well.. the tittres were out screnn - the ones but on the side - in the computer it's perfet... it's normal that an 16:9 project couldn't be wachted in television????
Powerbook G4 17''   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi:
once i burned the dvd
Did you use DVDSP? You must set your tracks as Dsiplay Mode to 16:9 Letterbox to get the letterboxed view in standard TVs.
the tittres were out screnn
Did you used the Title Safe areas when creating them in FCP? TVs with CTR screens "take" part of the borders of your image because the overscan. Computer displays shows 100% of the image.
it's normal that an 16:9 project couldn't be wachted in television????
If you set everything right, you'll get it done. All 16:9 rented movies plays fine in your TV, right?

  • FCP to PC, Mac and Television Pal and NTSC

I am editing a DVD for a French dancer who wants to send out the footage as a promotional piece. Target is Europe, North and South America. PC, Mac and Television. When things looked OK on the Mac I burned a dvd from DVD studio Pro. Checked on two PC laptops, a PC tower, a pal system television with dvd player and my Mac tower and powerbook G4.
I have now been reading articles and talking with people about the difference between the gamma
of 1.8 for Mac and 2.2 for PC and 2.5 for television. CRT and LCDs. What is the best we can do today when editing for people who are going to receive and play on different machines?
The new Mac cinema display does not change every time I move my head like the less expensive
LCD monitor I used in France and the PC and Mac laptops. Is it recommended in the video editing
world to buy a pal and/or ntsc monitor to color correct for Pal and NTSC? Does one have to linearize in some way on both?
Both Pal and NTSC seem to play on all computers.
    thanks for help
    Bill

I'd just monitor it on a well calibrated external monitor and leave it at that.
If people will be playing it on a PC it will look like any other well calibrated thing would look on a PC and again on the mac.
If people thought PCs were too dark then they'd complain about them and never use them and you wouldn't have to ever worry about it... but they don't.
Just do a normal calibration and leave it at that. You'll kill yourself over EVERY combination!!

  • MiniDVI to VGA for use with other (normal) monitors and televisions?

    Just that...
Is it the miniDVI to VGA (as opposed to the miniDVI to DVI) adaptor that I should buy to connect the MacBook to other monitors (to get the extension of the MacBook screen) and televisions (so the MacBook can act as a DVD player)?
Oh - also, could I plug a USB mouse and keyboard into the MacBook and plug the MacBook into a monitor and use it with the lid closed (ie like a desktop)?
    Thanks very much!

Yes, I have done this myself.

  • Can't access movies and television section of podcast directory

Very simply, as of this afternoon, every time I click on the Movies and Television category of the podcast directory, I get a message telling me that this feature is not available in the UK. All other sections work as normal. Any ideas?

I get the something similar when I try to access Technology -> Computers or Technology -> Information Technology. Only difference is that I get "not currently available in the US store".
It's been like that for over a week now. ;-(

  • DVI Cable and Television

I am trying to get my MacBook Pro to display on my television which is a Sharp LC-20SH6U. My problem is (1) I'm not sure that this is even possible since the television is a few years old, and (2) if it is possible, a normal HDMI-DVI video cable from a Mac store will not fit with the television's video input, so will I have to buy some sort of converter with two separate cables?
Any help would be greatly appreciated....

    Welcome to the Forums!
Your TV has composite and s-video inputs. You need the Apple DVI-to-Video Adapter, and either an RCA or an s-video cable.
    Hope this helps...

  • Connection of MacBook and television set

When I connect our MacBook to our television set, all that appears on the set is Apple's background graphic.  I believe there's an easy way to synchronize the two, but I don't know what it is.  Can somebody tell me the secret?
    Larry

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode with the MacBook as the main screen. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to use the MacBook’s keyboard and trackpad to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

  • How do I convert purchased music videos and television shows into my Itunes liabrary and sync it onto my ipod?

I recently purchased a music video and a television show episode off of Itunes. It was in my liabrary until I plugged in my Ipod nano 4th generation for it to sync. As my ipod is syncing the music video and tv show episode were'nt in my liabrary and they didn't sync onto my ipod. Yet when I log into my itunes store account the purchsed content is there. How do I get the music video and tv episode into my itunes library and onto my ipod?

My guess (and it is just a guess) is that what you are trying to do is no different than recording a TV programme to a VCR then watching it at a time of your convenience, probably the main reason why people have purchased VCRs, PVRs and the like.
However, with commercially produced DVDs, there is an encryption built in to prevent copying, and it the discussion of how to overcome this encryption that Apple will not permit on their forums.

  • Fotomagico and television-viewed slideshows

I need quick and comprehensive help here.
I've accomplished creating my slideshow in iDVD using 700 photos (with music). Granted, it hiccups a bit every 99 slides, but I'm willing to live with that. (I had no choice about the number of photos - the bereaved widow really wants them all in)
The resolution, whether viewed on t.v. or computer, is not so hot however. Could be because I did some dust & scratch removing? Regardless, the viewed images are not as good as the single edited still images I have in iPhoto.
So I've been reading about Fotomagico - I really have to finish this project in the next 2 days; the funeral it's for is coming up soon.
Is Fotomagico really a good solution? Can I easily (and quickly) create my slideshow with music without wasting a lot of time? WILL it be that much better?
And, most importantly, will it be viewable (and good) on television? That's how it will be shown at the celebration of life for my late friend.

When you make a DVD your high quality photos are compressed to 680 x 420 in the US, slightly larger in Europe. Why? Because that's what a DVD is - that's the definition of same. So your images in iPhoto that might be 3,000 x 2,000 are made a whole lot smaller. Then viewing them on a modern HD ready or better TV is always going to be problematic.
I don't think that using FotoMagico or anything else will over come this problem. The issue is the DVD standard.
I think your best bet would be to connect the Mac directly to the TV. Otherwise you'll need to find a BluRay burner and software that will burn HD disks.

  • Export settings for Web and Television

I am looking to Export a 30sec ad that will be posted on a website, and shown on TV in California. I have FC 5.0.4
What export settings do I use? Countdown? Bars and Tones?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

For web, I would recommend using H.264. The Web Download 800 kbps preset in Compressor, or the Broadband High preset in QuickTime would be a good choice.
As for delivering video for TV, I would recommend contacting the TV Network which will broadcast your video, and ask them about their broadcast requirements.
    Good luck!

  • Why do I have Original TV and Original Television listed

Ok so I'm new to Mac and iTunes.
I'm converting and sorting my music collection and have a few Soundtracks from movies and Television shows.
In the 'Artist' listing I now have seperate sections for TV and Television soundtracks, can I delete one and just use the other?
Actually I'd like to join: Original Soundtrack, Original TV Soundtrack and Original Television Soundtrack!

    Thanks, you were almost correct
I had to change the 'Album artist' from the variations of Soundtrack, now they are all 'Original Soundtrack'.
    Cool thanks.

  • How to connect apple tv and airport express on same Hi-Fi?

    Hello everybody,
My question first : Is it possible to output the sounds directly from the Apple TV to my Airport Express (via Airplay, wifi, or whatever connection) and connect with the jack my Airport Express to the stereo? This way I could hear the sound from my tv or listen to my music via airplay the way I want.
Now, the long explanation : I have a Tivoli sound system which only has a Jack as input plug. I also have an Apple TV (2) to watch movies. For my movies, as my stereo doesn't have any optical audio input, I've connected the television directly to the stereo. As I used to listen music from my Iphone on the dock aswell, I installed a double jack adaptor to permit two connections to my stereo (1 for the iPhone dock and 1 for the television).
Now things have changed a bit. I bought an airport express to replace the dock station.
The problem is that I can't use the double jack adaptor anymore. If I want to watch tv I have no sounds from stereo until I unplug the airport express Jack. The reverse works, I can listen to my music when both airport Express and television are connected.
If you have an idea? Let me know.
    Thks.
    Christophe

  • Mini dvi to HDMI video and sound lag

I have a brand new 13" macbook pro hooked up to a 40" Philips LCD TV and I'm getting a lot of lag just even moving the mouse. About half a second. Any ideas?

I'm getting the same issue connecting early 2010 MBP 13in through a moshi mini display to hdmi to my 40in samsung. Pictures is great, but the communication between computer and television is about 1 second behind. If anyone figures this out please share.

  • Page looks different in Preview and Browser

I am using the Acordion Widget on the left hand side of my page and have inserted video from a third party to the right side.
When I click "PREVIEW", I see the page displayed as in the top image. When I click "PREVIEW PAGE IN BROWSER", it shows up as in the bottom image, which, by the way, is the way I designed it to look. Is there a reason for this discrepancy and which should I trust more? I'm not ready to publish yet, so how can I check it in a real world environment?
I'm losing the top and bottom "bookend" images around the Acordion Widget as well as the bottom button. And the video window and text are skewed off to the right.
    Please help.
    Louis

    Abhishek,
Here is the code for the vimeo embed, plus some lines of code preceding it. This extra code contins the info for the graphic which is missing in the "PREVIEW" window.
