16:9 content squished in 4:3 area on widescreen TV

When I burn a DVD that's made in Encore using the 16:9 mode it plays in 16:9 mode on my computer so I know it is burned properly. I go to place it in my Xbox360 and 2 other DVD players it does no auto expand to fill my 16:9 TV. (it is squished in a 4:3 image) If I put in a commerical DVD such as a movie from Blockbuster/Netflicks both my XBOX360 and the 2 other dvd players auto expand to fill the 16:9 video over the entire screen automatically with out me chaging the screen settings on my tv.
So why does this happen with my home made DVD's that are set to 16:9 and play fine on my computer? I know my players are set up correctly because the commerical dvd's work properly.
I've used IFOedit and checked my flags of the DVD and they are set correctly as the dvd does play fine on my computer. So any idea why my xbox360 and 2 other DVD players have issues playing my DVD and auto expanding it to widescreen.
I've even tried just burning 16:9 a menu to a disc and the same things happens. What needs to be done to make these DVD's auto fill my widescreen TV like professional ones?
Thanks!

I don't currently have a standalone blu-ray player but I am suffering from the squash effect when importing raw H264 files, the original file play 16:9 in PowerDVD but Encore squashes them to 4:3 even when 16:9 is selected. The only way I have around it is to re-encode the files first. Very strange. Hopefully some bright spark will tell us how to change the headers or something in some freeware software that we can use.

• 16:9 content squished into 4:3 area

I've been having a problem with my widescreen 16x9 content displaying squished on my TV.
I opened up Premier and used a widescreen project. I added a solid color and colorbars to my project. I went to export to adobe encore. I selected a widescreen project and let it burn. I played the disk on my computer and it looks perfect in widescreen. However, I place the disk in my Xbox 360 and poof it will squeeze everything into the 4:3 area and make things look squished. I then put in a professional DVD (Borat for example) and the disk plays properly in my xbox without changing any settings. It will be in widescreen on my 16:9 TV. So why is this?
It can't be my player since it plays professional dvd's properly. Anyone else have this issue? Or when making DVD-R do you always have to take your TV off the "Normal" screen setting and switch it to "wide"
Thanks!

>Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying, but square pixels are non-anamorphic and non-square pixels are anamorphic. Anything with a PAR other than 1 is anamorphic
Just using the same words in my Sonic manuals....maybe the japaglish is not translated correctly?
I have always understood Anamorphic images as ones that were originally created in Square Pixels at the correct ratio, then scaled to DVD resolution of 720x480 or 720x576, and as a result of this look "Squished" when editing. Maybe my understanding is wrong, and if so I apologise. All my Sonic manuals certainly call the scaled 720x480 images "anamorphic".
@Mick.
Using straight "Exact PAR" designs in encore will work - although it's use is still not recommended. The reason for having these modes is only to reassure authors their screens are looking correct as all computer monitors (unless being fed into a soft player that is capable of PAR correction) display in Square Pixels.
You will, for example, never find a Quicktime at 0.9 or 1.2 or 1.016 or 1.442 PAR - they are all, without exception, Square Pixel.
So - whilst when using Premiere or Encore, you can use "exact PAR" images & files, they will not be much use in anything else, and could very easily lead to trouble somewhere down the line.
With 16:9 menus created in exact PAR, it seems to make little practical difference if you use the correct PAR or Square Pixel scaled images - the output should be the same. Emphasis on "Should Be".
Where you can easily run headlong into trouble is in the scaling for letterbox 4:3 display. The way Sonic works is to import the menus as follows:
1 - menuname.tif
2 - menuname_HL.tif
3 - menuname_LB.tif
4 - menuname_BTN.tif
The latter _BTN file is optional, as this can be created from the _HL files automatically. The usage of these files is as follows:
1 - Background Image. 24-bit full RGB
2 - SubPicture Highlight. 4 Colour Indexed Delimited
3 - Letterbox SPHL - Sonic does *not* scale these images for letterboxing as the SPHL image often carries text, and scaled text can look awfully bad. When working in Wide, I use this method (It works)
1 - Create Menus in exact PAR. Scale to Square Pixels.
2 - Create SPHL in exact PAR. Scale to Square Pixels, Index.
3 - Copy the above. Resize the image to 720x360. Resize the canvas to 720x480. This gives a letterbox shape.
Mixing different types of ratios never gives a reliable result at all.
The problem is always in the letterboxed 4:3 display.
And as we all know, Encore is a Sonic Authorcore, so it's better to play by Sonic rules IMSHO. Another Sonic issue is that the importers will allow things the compiler will freak out over too. So just because something will apparently import into a project is really no guarantee at all it will correctly multiplex.
Motion menus are another fine example of this, and we have found that to guarantee compilation is good, to make sure of 2 things:
1 - Frame count is a multiple of 15 frames (NTSC) or 12 frames (PAL).
2 - Encode to 6,000 CBR should work most of the time. If not, reduce by 500 multiples until it does.
3 - make absolutely certain the final frame is an I-Frame.
Setting TV/Player Aspect Ratios is one thing.
Having them correctly honoured is quite another.
>if you have Widescreen TV, should the DVD Player's display setting be always se to WIDE, and when connected to 4:3 TV should the mode be like "4:3letterbox"? Matching the TV...
Yes and Yes.

• Content not lining up in the sidebar with the content located in the main area?

Hello, I’ve created a website using Dreamweaver CS4 and have come across an issue while using a template. The template I’m using is: 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer. The problem seems to be in the sidebar where the content does not start at the top, it seems to be about 15px below the content in the main area. I can't find any CSS or any reason why it's starts where it does. It seems to look like even and as it should in Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari but not in IE9. The page is live at www.Lots2Homes.com and you'll see the content is lower in the right sidebar than in the main area to the left. The code for the home page and CSS is below. This has me going in circles, any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• Loading external SWF with masked content - get size of masked area

I am loading an external swf using the SWFLoader component. The swf that is being loaded is masked so that only a portion is being shown. However, when it's loaded the actual size of the swf (loader.content.width && loader.content.height) is the complete swf including the masked area. Therefore, the loaded swf does not display properly in the itemrenderer Is there a way to to grab the size of the just the masked area as opposed to getting the size of the entire swf's contents (area not masked)?
One item to note that is complicating the issue, is that these are swf files that have already been created and there are many of them. In some instances, the size of the stage matches up with the size of the masked area. In other instances, the stage is larger (or possibly smaller) than the masked area movieclip as well as possibly the actual size of the movieclip (w/o the mask).
I am currently loading the external swf in using a Loader. Once loaded, I make a copy (screen shot) of the swf by creating a bmp of the loader.content.This is done as I don't want to have any animations being shown on screen at this moment. I am setting the size of the bmp using using loader.content.width & loader.content.height. I then set the SWFLoader.source to the bitmap.

Here's the code I am using to load the swf:
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
protected  function application1_applicationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void {
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onSWFLoaded);
loader.load(new URLRequest("c:\\Flex Testing\\FA warns Mr. Jones.swf"),  context);
private function  onSWFLoaded(event:Event):void {
bmData=new  BitmapData(loader.content.width, loader.content.height, true, 0x990000);
bmData.draw(loader.content, new Matrix());
bmp=new  Bitmap(bmData);
swfLoader.source=bmp;
addElement(swfLoader);

• Project update to 6 = error: content seems to overlap playbar area

Hi we have a large amount of tutorials made in Captivate 5.5 and I'm working on a transition plan for us to update them to Captivate 6 so we can finally all install eLS6.
I experience errors related to the playbar where content seem to overlap down into the playbar. This "overlap" is showing up as white areas on sometimes on top of the playbar or in the area right next to the palybar. Please see screen shot:
It's not an option for me to choose Stretch TOC because I use the area below the TOC to put a logo.
I have tried to remove all widgets, choose a Captivate 6 provided skin, playbar and preloader as proposed by RodWard http://forums.adobe.com/message/4718279#4718279 - still with no luck.
Any ideas on what is happening?

I tried to rework my theme on an empty Captivate 6 file. So no widgets, no preloader etc from the 5 version.
When I put content overlapping the stage I still see a white rectangular artefact:
So the error turns out to be related to Captivate 6 skins and not the updating projects from 5 to 6.
Any ideas or comments?

• SCCM 2012 says content distributed, but the folders are missing in my DP

SCCM 2012 SP1 Update 4
I've been adding updates and creating new applications and all looked ok. I distributed them to my 7 distribution points, and the stats shows the content was distributed. However, if I look on the DP hard drive for the folders, they are not there.
Deployments are failing saying they cant find files.
Any thoughts? I cant find anything through Google (sorry Bing ;) )..
Thanks!!!

CM 2012 content library is different fr0m SMSPKGE$ folder. Check for SCCMContentLib folder. Also check the status of content distribution from CM12 console - Monitoring - Content Status Node

• CL_HTTP_CLIENT, Content-Length in multipart segment are not part of RFC 186

Hi, we are generating http multipart request using class CL_HTTP_CLIENT, and multipart segments header are filled with Content-Type and Content-Length, by default. Both elements are not part od RFC 1867, and request is not working.
We find a way to avoid Content-Type in note 582889 "delete Content-Type of HTTP request header", but we can find anything to avoid content-length.
POST /TransporteBienes/SeguridadCliente/presentarRemitos.do HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=ejjeeffe0
Content-Length:       759
accept-encoding:
--ejjeeffe0
Content-Length:        11
content-disposition: form-data; name="user"
30663288497
--ejjeeffe0
Content-Length:         6
content-disposition: form-data; name="password"
We need to avoid content-length:
POST /TransporteBienes/SeguridadCliente/presentarRemitos.do HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=ejjeeffe0
Content-Length:       759
accept-encoding:
--ejjeeffe0
content-disposition: form-data; name="user"
30663288497
--ejjeeffe0
content-disposition: form-data; name="password"
Is there any way to do that?
Regards.

Anybody?

• GPO Security Zones and Content Ratings "Modify Settings" buttons are disabled

Task: Trying to modify a GPO so that specific users who logon to Remote Desktop Servers will have a lower Internet security level for Internet Explorer.
We have two Windows Server 2008 Domain Controllers, when I access the GPO using the Group Policy Management Console and Editor on either of the two Domain Controllers, then navigate to User Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Internet Explorer
Maintenance > Security > Security Zones and Content Ratings, the available "Modify Settings" buttons are both disabled.
I've read through several forum posts relating to this and the closest solution mentioned was to turn off IE ESC for Administrators on both Domain Controllers. I've done this and it nothing has changed as a result. Is there a way enable the "Modify Settings"
buttons, or is there another way to achieve the task mentioned at the top of this post?

Hi,
We need to import these settings before we modify them.
To import security zones and privacy settings from our computer using IEM:
Click
Import the current security zones and privacy settings
To import content ratings from our computer:
Click
Import the current Content Ratings settings
Regarding how to configure Security Zones and Content Ratings, the following article can be referred to for more information.

• Update Content and Task Sequence Changes are Slow

ConfigMgr 2012 R2
When choosing "Update Content" from the deployment under the Deployment Types tab, the revision number changes but the update takes about 30 minutes to complete. When app testing this is becoming increasingly frustrating. A change made
and then having to wait ~30 minutes is wasting too much time. This delay doesn't always occur. When its working quickly, the pie chart would immediately turn yellow and a few minutes later files would be updated and the Last Update: under the pie
chart would show the current time/date. The packages being tested are all small and being distributed to a couple local DPs over 1GB connections. When triggering "Update Content", the distmgr.log does not display any information about
the distribution of the files until it actually does start which as mentioned earlier starts roughly 30 minutes after triggering "Update Content". Keep in mind it's not exactly 30 minutes. This timeframe is variable.
Also noticed that when an app install was set to disabled in a Task Sequence, when PXE booting, the app was still trying to run. Sometimes an app can be changed to disabled and an immediate PXE boot will not attempt to install the app. This also
applies to enabling a disabled app.
The update content issue would appear to be some type of backlog issue but disabling an app in a Task Sequence seems like it would be more like a DB transaction. Although it seems like two issues, both issues rear their ugly head at the same
time.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi ,
Thanks for the info. When you create a package, the files are copied from the source path to the content library on the site server. Then, the content is copied from the content library on the site server to the content library on the distribution points.
Please also check if "Allow clients to connect anonymously" is enabled on the DP Properties. See this link:

• When I try to print from the browser, it only prints about 1/3 of the page, it doesn't shrink the contents, just truncates the print area.

Currently running FF 3.6.8, with W 7 home professional. Every time I try to print from the FF browser, it truncates the print area to about 1/3 of it's normal size. It doesn't shrink to fit the content, just the print area. I've checked all the settings and they look normal. This only happens in FF, I can go to the same url in ie and it will work just fine.
== Every time I try to print directly from the browser.

• Content purchased from iTunes store are downloaded but do not show up in library (iTunes 11) even after manual add

Hi all,
I upgraded to iTunes 11 recently and have now purchased some additional content from the iTunes store. The files have been downloaded but do not show up in my library. A search yields some results but I cannot access the songs in my library nor can I add them to 'up next' although the option is available from the search results menu.
First thing I tried was to add them again manually but the problem persists. Any clues?
Thanks and Best
Frank

OK, I found a solution. Here it goes, just in case anybody else comes across this issue:
I deleted all the relevant entries from the iTunes Libary.xml AND iTunes Music Library.xml files (with iTunes closed, of course) and removed the files on the harddrive library structure to another location. I then restarted iTunes and added the album manually to my library again. In my case, I got iTunes to handle my library and the files were thus copied back to my old structure by the iTunes. To finish I reimported the album artwork and that was that.
Hope that I won't encounter this issue with future purchases under iTunes11, this workaround IS a bit of a hassle!

• The full content of my email messages are no longer downloaded

I can see everything except the full content of the mail ???
can anybody help me what is suddenly happening?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

• Contents of ITunes Music folder are missing (ITunes 8)

I used to have a ton of music in my ITunes. Now when I open ITunes the only thing that shows up are my podcasts and my audiobooks. All of my music (purchased and burned from CD) are gone. How did this happen, where are the files? I have done a search on the drive for .mp3, .mpa4 and .aac and I don't see any of the albums/songs that I used to have. I see the old libraries and the old playlists but no songs. How can the music files be recovered?
Thanks in advance!!

I have similar problem. My playlists are corrupted , that is, missing songs. My top rated have gone away as well as downloads.
