16:9 export converts to 4:3 in DVD Creator

Please help!  I've run out of options.
I have created a 1-hour home video using the latest version of Final Cut Pro X ( Version 10.0.7).  All of the video was shot in 720 X 480 and I used the 16:9 format when I created my project.  I used the H264 codec selection when exporting my video to a .m4v format because otherwise I get a file that is close to 50 GB in size.  I saved the file to my desktop and it plays perfectly inside of Quicktime (Version 10.2) in a 16:9 format.
What I want to do is import that video into some type of DVD creator so that I can create menus and chapter selections with backgroud music etc.  Unfortunately, each time I try to do this the DVD creation software puts the video into a 4:3 format. I have tried using iDVD (my old standby with iMovie) and DVD Creator for Mac by Aimerisoft with the same results.  Since I am getting the same results from different DVD burning programs, I must be exporting the file incorrectly or it is some type of FCPX issue.
I have read on other forums that the exported file may not contain the metadata that these DVD creation programs need to display the video properly.  I have tried going through the instructions at this link (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2179), but this workflow does not work.
I am using a 15" MacBook Pro running OSX Version 10.8.2.  I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Luis,
Just for some background information, I was given a 16 GB SD card with video files in a .mpg format.  Here is the original file information:
I converted these clips to a .m4v format using VidConvert and deinterlaced them at the same time.  Here is the information for the files that I imported in FCPX:
Here are the settings for my project:
I have blacked out certain portions to protect people's names.
Any solutions to the loss of quality by exporting from FCPX using the DV codec is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

  • Is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro?

OK...so here's what I'm trying to find out: is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro? Or can I build the project in DVDSTPRO and import it to iDVD to build and burn?
I've read several threads here and haven't come across my specific question. If I missed it, please copy me a link. Otherwise, I'd like to use the templates/themes in iDVD with my FCP project.
I was thinking about importing the project from FCP to iDVD. Then, I thought about the markers etc....
So, if anyone had an idea, tip or link, I'm all for it!

    Importing iDVD Projects and Themes
DVD Studio Pro 4 can import projects from iDVD 3 and iDVD 4. You can import an iDVD theme by using the theme in a project within iDVD and importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. When creating the project within iDVD, you do not need to use the final assets or make a complete project.
Note: DVD Studio Pro will not import projects from iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 5. In general, iDVD needs to be installed on the same system as DVD Studio Pro. An exception is if you import an iDVD 4 archive project.
To import an iDVD project or archived project into DVD Studio Pro:
1 Do one of the following:
    • Choose File > Open.
    • Press Command-O.
2 Locate and select the iDVD project or iDVD 4 archive project in the Open dialog, then click Open.
DVD Studio Pro imports the iDVD project.
    About the iDVD Project Import
When DVD Studio Pro imports an iDVD 3 or iDVD 4 project or iDVD 4 archive project, it has standard locations it looks for to find the assets and themes used in the project. This is especially important if the project uses custom themes.
The standard locations that DVD Studio Pro uses are (in this order):
    • iDVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as having a server networked into your computer.)
    • iDVD application bundle: This is the iDVD application file that contains the default theme elements.
Note: When you create an archive project in iDVD 4, you can choose to include the themes and encoded files. For the best portability, you should include both options. This results in a larger archive file, but ensures you can take the file to any DVD Studio Pro system and import it without missing assets. If you do not choose to include the themes and encoded files in the archive file, those assets must be available in one of the standard locations.
If your project will have automatically-created chapter index (scene selection) menus based on markers embedded in the video, it can be easier to create these within iDVD prior to importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. This ensures the chapter index menus use the selected theme’s background and include arrow buttons to navigate between the menus.
Important: To ensure all iDVD menu elements import correctly into DVD Studio Pro, you must navigate to each chapter index menu within iDVD before saving the project. This is also true for any menus you add to your iDVD project by clicking the Folder button.
    Issues With Importing iDVD Projects
There are some issues to be aware of when you import iDVD projects:
    • If you import an iDVD project with DVD-ROM content, DVD Studio Pro does not update the settings in the Disc Inspector’s General tab to reflect the DVD-ROM content. You must manually select the DVD-ROM layout and choose the folder to include.
    • When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you can add arrow buttons to each still to provide viewers with an additional method of jumping to the previous and next stills. These arrow buttons are not imported when you import an iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro. The viewer must use the Previous and Next buttons on the DVD player’s remote control to jump between stills.
    • The button highlights used in iDVD may look different when imported into DVD Studio Pro. In most cases, the text in the buttons is set to be included in the highlight. Additionally, buttons that use an underline in iDVD will not have an underline when imported into DVD Studio Pro.
    • When you import an iDVD project, you may find that the button that is highlighted by default on some menus changes. During the project import, DVD Studio Pro numbers the buttons on each menu and highlights button 1 by default. You can assign any button on a menu to be the default button in the Menu tab in the Menu Inspector.
    • If you import an iDVD project that contains a drop zone configured as a slideshow and has multiple slides assigned to it, DVD Studio Pro only shows the slideshow’s first slide in the drop zone.

I am attempting to convert 8mm video cassettes to dvd using a video cassette player, elgato video capture with rca/usb connections to the mac then editing in imovie and burning dvd-r using idvd. The picture quality is awful. What can I do??????

At what point is the video quality bad?  Is it bad on capture?  I would recommend using an s-video 1394 firewire converter instead.  They capture the video at a higher bit rate.  If you have a lot of 8mm tapes to capture, invest in a stand alone DVD recorder.  They capture and compress in one shot.  If you need to rip it back from the DVD into iMovie again, I would recommend using DVDxDV.

When I select the videos I want to export the iDVD option along with the Export option goes away. Tried to select burn disc and all it did was burn the first frame of every video and nothing more. You're better off by creating a data DVD through the Finder or elsewhere than attempting to use iDVD or similar software to create a video DVD. Locate the video files in the Finder and burn them as you would any other file.

how do you convert audio to ac3 in DVD SP 4 without a.pack
    thanks

NO. If you let DVDSP make your encoding you'll get uncompressed audio (AIFF/PCM) what means most probably high bitrate issues during building/playback and a lot of the space of your disc.

  • LR3.2 - export large qty of images to DVD (jpg @ 100%)

    Hi
I have 900 dng files to burn to give a client.  When I tell LR3.2 to export to dvd it takes forever, to the pointwhere I stopped it and have now told it to do it to HDD instead.
My question is - if I'd of continued, would LR3.2 try and fit all the files on one disk or will it prompt me for more disks (I'm guessing my files when exported will need 2-3 4gb dvd's)
    cheers
    Rob
edit - ALSO, I've told to export the 900 files to my HDD as 100% jpg and after 2 hours it's only 29% done, is this correct?

yes get that!  Though what I meant by the dvd is....  if I'd of left it running exporting to dvd, and the files need more than 1 disk, will LR3.2 prompt me to swap disks during burn?
No. The disc burner is very primitive. It just errors out. At least it did in LR 2. I haven't tried since, but I doubt this was made any better. You're better off just exporting and burning the files yourself in other software.
P.S. Are you sure that you need quality 100? There is generally no visible improvement above 85 but only an enormous, wasteful increase in filesize. See this article for an analysis. Your jpegs should be about 7 MB at the next to highest "quality". That might get you to 900 images on a disc (at least if it is DL).

  • Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

I'm guessing that your using One Step DVD . This will only work with one movie at a time.
Create a new project and all you should have to do is drag your movies from your movie folder onto your iDVD project. You can add as many movies as you like but obviously you can't exceed the maximum total DVD size.
Encoding can take a long time depending on the original file format, but you should be able to use pretty much any file format you can play with Quicktime.

  • Export/Convert to h.264 results in jerky video in WMP

System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 EN
In Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media Encoder CS4 I have problems exporting video to h.264.
Please download the sample file here:
    http://www.tsxn.com/storage/transfer/premiere_h264.zip
    Source:
      H.264 HDTV Testvideo (e.g. "01-TestVideo_Original_h264.MOV")
Profile: 1920x1080 fps 30, square pixel, progressive
    Destination:
For Testing purpose, just converting the original within the Adobe Media Encoder
      Profile: same as Source
    1) The original source file plays fine using any player, so the hardware of my test systems (3 computers) is ok
    2) When exporting the Video to H.264 (e.g. "02-TestVideo_Convert_h264.mp4") the resulting video is jerky in Windows Media Player and Quicktime
    3) Strange: When converting the jerky result video again (e.g. "03-TestVideo_ConvertAgain_wmv.wmv") , but now into WMV, it plays fine again
Can anyone confirm this problem on his system?
It seems to me that Windows Media Player and Quicktime enforce their own h.264 decoder which has problems playing Premiere Exports. VLC Media Player and the Adobe media player for example seems to have no problem at all.
    Any help is highly appreciated!
    Thank you
    Chris

    Jim, thanks for testing.
My concerns are about a)distribution and general b)compatibility.
    a) When videos are distributed most of the users will probably try to open the files with Windows Media Player. So it is not a good start to have fresh exported h.264 videos which won't run fine with the 'main' player on windows
    b) I am wondering if the Problems with Windows Media Player may also be a sign of a general compatibility issue of the h.264 video itself
At least in case b) Adobe would have to look into this.
    Here is another test video:

  • Acrobat only converts the page that is displayed.  How do I export/convert an entire PDF to word or exel?

I have some huge reports that need to be converted.  This is not a one time thing.
When I try to export PDF to word, excel, or any format offered, it:
    only saves the headers/footers.
If I select all; it only saves the page(s) displayed on screen
How can I convert an entire PDF to word or excel?
Auto-scrolling is on and that made sadly no difference.
There are too many pages to put it on 10% and view them all on one screen
    Please help

Hi, sorry I should have put that in my original post.
    Version: Acrobat XI
I tried multiple things which included:
Tools --> Content Editing --> Export File To... [ This saves a blank file ]
Select All --> Tools --> Content Editing --> Export File To... [ Saves only the page that is displayed on the monitor, the rest is all blank except header and footer ]
Select All --> File --> Save As --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
File --> Save As --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
Select All --> File --> Save As Other --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
File --> Save As Other --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
Tools --> Edit Text & Images --> Cannot Select All --> Export File To... [ Saves only what is displayed on the monitor ]
I'll edit and add to my original post if it lets me.

  • Export / Convert for embedding in HTML.

The Title says it all :P
How can I export or convert a captivate project such that in
can be embedded as a Flash video on a website?
Any and all help appreciated :D

    Hi Ken
If you have a few different Full Motion Video (FMV) clips and
are using Captivate 3, just make sure that they are all in the same
folder and you should be good to go. Also, you might find that
whatever authoring tool you use will handle inserting the .SWF
properly so you may embed it. Admittedly, trying to dissect what is
going on with the Captivate supplied HTML code will be a bit on the
"iffy" side. This is because of the way it loads up. Loads in the
HTML, looks for the standard.js, loads in the skin .SWF file and
that file loads in the main movie part.
Sorry, but aside from that, I've got no magickal tricks up my
sleeve. Unless you are referring to consolidating the skin .SWF and
the movie .SWF. To to that, click Project > Skin... > Borders
tab and DE-select the "Show Borders" check box. The side effect of
doing that is that the controls cover part of your project when you
    play it back.
    Cheers... Rick
