16:9 export issue within Final Cut Studio 2

Hello forum users,
I have captured 16:9 SD Mini-DV footage into Final Cut Pro 6, edited, rendered, etc. The edit is complete and ready for importing into DVD Studio Pro.
Now, whenever I try to export the footage from FCP 6 it goes to a 4:3 ratio clip, squeezing the footage from 16:9 and making things look rather compressed, horizontally that is...
I have viewed similar posts within this forum but I can not seem to find a definitive answer to my problem. I simply want to export my footage at a 16:9 ratio with as little hassle as possible. This is the first time I have worked with 16:9 footage so my apologies for being naive.
I appreciate and look forward to your replies.
Thank you,
Neil.

It exports it correctly... as anamorphic material.
So...
Your best bet is to use the widescreen export/compression options in Compressor.
However - if you want to go directly into DVDSP and have IT compress it for you then just load it into a video track and a contextual dialog box will change in the lower right of your window... there, change display to LETTERBOX or Force Letterbox... I always forget.
This will force the 4:3 sets to show 16:9 with letterbox and ws tvs to do full screen.
You can test it out with the simulate window in DVDSP... there are two settings, one for 4:3 and one for widescreen. Make sure it does what you want for both.
Good luck,
CaptM

  • Export and burn - Final Cut Studio to DVD Studio Pro

I think I am doing all the right settings when I try and convert material that was filmed with an HDV camera into a suitable format for burning and playing on a traditional SD DVD recorder. But even with encodings of 720 x 576i PAL, the disc once burned is rejected by my DVD player, although it plays fine on the Macbook Pro I amusing for editing and burning. Am I missing something obvious? I looked for a standard MPEG -2 setting in the Quicktime Conversion window, but couldn't find one. I have the first version of Final Cut studio, which I think is really FCP v.5.1.
    Thanks
    Nick

It sounds as if you are choosing the HD DVD checkbox in DVD SP.
    You shouldn't.

  • Exporting issues with Final Cut Pro X

I have been working on the project for a few weeks now and it's been working fine till today, Im trying to export several clips from the same footage that was divided into seperate project files and every time I try to share it gives me an error message with a frame number. I've seen other people are having the same issue but none of their solutions worked - the frame number is different everytime, I dissabled all effects and I tried copying and pasting the sequince into a new project file but that didn't work either.

i only can speek for my situation
    PROCESSOR 2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
    MEMORY 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
FLASH STORAGE 512GB Flash Storage & mavericks mit eingeschaltetem app nap
i do not have a bad frames within my original file or project and a new user account was also not necessary,
but deactivation of APP NAPP was at least 2 times a solution. under mavericks i could export for the first time with no error

  • Help serious Audio rendering issues within final cut pro

    Hello
I have some serious audio issues I am using Final cut 6.05. Here is my problem I am putting a AUParametricEq filter on my audio due wind noise etc. Anyway when i play it back on the time line it plays fine no problems but as soon final cut renders the file say for mastering to tape. at some point at the audio the audio goes all haywire, popping sounds or the audio just repeats it self at one frame or i can here audio from other parts of the timeline. And it just happened before i never had the issue. Is it the update. Hope anybody can help as I need to master about 6 projects to tape to clean my harddrives and all 6 projects have the same issue.

Are your audio files AIFF 48K 16 bit?
In regard to trashing preferences you can download Jon's Prefence manager at this site

    The Old School method follows
    Trashing preferences and repairing permissions.
    Close Final Cut Pro.
    Go to: Users/your user name/Library/Preferences.
    Drag, "com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist" to the trash.
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Settings folder.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro 6 Preferences" to the trash.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" to the trash
Drag, "Final Cut Pro POA Cache" to the trash.

  • Final Cut Studio & Logic Studio upgrade issue

I am mainly audio based but have been working on projects more recently with Final Cut Studio 2 to deal with the video. As I use both Logic Studio 8 and Soundtrack Pro 2 a lot, and Final Cut Pro less, I plumped for the upgrade to Logic Studio which also contains STP 3 and Compressor 3.5 which seemed the right thing to do.
However the install info and dvd doesn't want you to install STP 3 or Compressor 3.5 if you have Final Cut Studio 2 as they "contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Personally I didn't want to run to the expense of upgrading Final Cut as I don't use Motion, Colour or Cinema Tools and although I am working heavily in DVD Studio Pro they haven't done anything to upgrade that application (boo!)
So what's the deal? Am I unable to upgrade ST Pro to version 3 and also unable to benefit from the upgraded Compressor even though I've actually paid for an upgrade that promised me these options, and no mention until I'd opened the package that there would be any incompatibility issues with Final Cut Studio 2!
Anyone know what these 'incompatible components' are?
Sounds like sharp practice and bad product integration to me...

I just spoke with someone in Apple Reseller Channel Sales and he told me that what is shipping now is strictly the Universal version. So, if you order a Final Cut Studio Upgrade from FCP HD ($699 retail, IIRC), you will receive the FCS Universal version in the big box with all the docs.

  • Sony HDR-CX7 and Final Cut Studio 2 ???

    Hey there people,
I live in Australia and I am new to this forum & couldn't actually locate a specific thread for my questions so hopefully anyone could be of assistance.
Basically, I have just bought a Macbook Pro 2.4ghz notebook, Final Cut Studio 2 and a Sony HDR-CX7 hi def camcorder.
Has anyone come across issues with Final Cut Studio picking up the hi def clips straight from the Sony camcorder when you try to import files to Final Cut? After some research, it seems as though this can simply be fixed by buying a FireWire cable to connect from the camcorder straight to the FireWire port on the notebook. Is this correct??
Any assistance would be great or if anyone knows of a link to a thread specifically for the Sony HDR-CX7 and Final Cut Studio 2. The standard def seems to work ok but the hi def isn't picked up on either the Macbook direct or Final Cut Studio. I just would like to ensure that i am able to use the camcorder hi def with Final Cut
    Cheers!!

You should be able to transfer from the camera to FCP through the log and transfer window with a FW cable... FCP 6.0.1 added AVCHD support anyway...

  • Final Cut Express 4 or Final Cut Studio??

I am currently having to burn DVDs for a new company named Astramedia.
We are getting our Videos from suppliers in the HDV format as a .mov file. (More details at the end) These files were exported using Apples Final Cut Studio. Now we want to use these Video files for DVD burning. The DVDs should be in high quality, in 16:9, and with Intro and Menu. My question is do I need to by Apple Final Cut Studio for the Compressor and the DVD Studio Pro programm or is it sufficient enough to use Final Cut Express 4 to export the HDV files and use iDVD to burn the DVDs?
Thanks for all your help & answers!! Nik

FCE cannot use native HDV files.
You would have to convert them first to one of the FCE friendly codecs then edit and pipe into iDVD.
You will get a pretty good result.
Compressor and DVDSPro will raise the bar of course but a lot more knowledge is involved in proper use of these programs.

  • Serial Number in Final Cut Studio

I am having issues with Final Cut Studio. I bought Final Cut Studio and installed all of the applications on to my iMac but when I choose to load any of the pro applications it will ask for the serial number. I type the serial number in and then the relevant program will load - is there anyway that I can get the software or computer to remember the serial number so that I don't have to keep typing it in?
    Many thanks,
    Phil

The file "Final Cut Studio System ID" is likely corrupted.
Go here to delete it: Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/ProApps.
Launch one of the FCS apps, enter your serial again. Hopefully it will stick now.

  • Final Cut Studio 2: needing to update older version before install

I am trying to install FCS 2 upgrade from FCS, but it tells me I have an older version and that it "needs to be updated" before I can continue. The manual says that "To avoid compatibility issues, the Final Cut Studio installer requires you to update all Final Cut Studio applications to the version included with Final Cut Studio 2." I am not sure what this means, since I am just now installing FCS 2. I've read the messages here about upgrading from FCP 5.0.4, my FCP version, to 5.1 via a crossgrade on disks from Apple. Does this mean that I need to buy this crossgrade before I can finish the upgrade to FCS 2? This requirement is not listed on the FCS 2 box, but I can't seem to find anything else that would "update" my older version. And is this true for each of the other applications in the suite?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, you don't need to buy the crossgrade. I just updated the PPC version of FCS to FCS2 yesterday. (I had transferred these applications over to my new Intel Mac from a G5 even though I knew they wouldn't run on the Intel Mac until I could update with the Universal version). What I did end up having to do was to manually delete everything from the PPC installation (applications, preferences, application support files, etc.). Then install from the FCP2 disks, having your old FCP registration number ready to enter in the dialogue box that comes up when you try to upgrade. While the installer says you are upgrading, in fact it installs the new universal versions of the applications.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 & JVC HR-DVS1U

    Hello
Does Anybody know if there are any issues with Final Cut Studio 2 & the JVC HR-DVS1U deck? I ask because I heard there were some issues with FCS 2 and other JVC decks.
    Thanks

You don't need an internet connection to install Final Cut Studio.
You will be asked to register the software, but you don't have to do this. Although a reminder to register will pop up about every 4th or 5th time the software is opened.
When you use upgrade serial numbers, you usually get a warning that you need the number from a full licensed copy. Enter that and then the new serial that came with the upgrade.

  • Buy Final Cut Studio 2 for DVD Studio Pro? Pro & Cons of DVD Studio Pro?

I am thinking of buying Final Cut Studio 2 because it includes the DVD authoring software DVD Studio Pro. iDVD uses automatic settings that are hard if not impossible to alter and so some DVDs are authored with very poor bit rates.
    1. Is it possible to change the bit rate manually in DVD Studio Pro so the best Quality DVD can be authored?
    2. Is is possible to change the audio from PCM (which takes up a lot of DVD space) to AC-3 in DVD Studio Pro, so picture quality is improved?
    3. Is there a way to buy DVD Studio Pro as a separate software package and use it with Final Cut Express?
    4. Generally what other options for DVD authoring with Mac are there besides iDVD and DVD Studio Pro?
    5. Is DVD Studio Pro a good piece of software or are there any particular faults?

    1. Yes, but you would use Compressor for your encoding instead of DVDSP.
    2. DVDSP will only encode to AIFF, Compressor will allow you to encode audio to AC3.
    3. Negative. DVDSP is only available as part of Final Cut Studio 2.
    4. You could try using Roxio Toast.
    5. DVDSP gets the job done for me. I think it works quite well.
For a good explanation of how Compressor and DVDSP workflows work within Final Cut Studio, I'd recommend you take a look at DVD StepByStep

  • Problems exporting HD timeline in older Final Cut Studio HD

I've been working on an older version of Final Cut Studio HD. I had originally offlined the footage so I could edit it, and I finished onlining the footage with the original HD footage. The aspect ratio of the project and the footage is 1920 x 1080, and the codec of most of the footage and the timeline was set to H.264. The only problem is, now that it's onlined, it refused to render any of the transitions. It gives me some kind of codec error. I have also tried exporting the timeline as a Quicktime Movie, but it always fails at somepoint in the process. I have tried exporting Quicktime Conversion, and it failed too. The only way I was able to get it to output was to change the codec of the timeline and in Quicktime Conversion, but this provided a subpar quality file. I understand that I'm using and older version of Final Cut Pro on an older system, but I'm trying to find work arounds to this issue that will allow me to output a quality full HD file. Any help is appreciated.

  • Final cut studio 3 and my mac pro major and unnecessary issues

just a heads up, sorry for my grammar, I have been using final cut pro since it was 3.0 on my old g4 upgraded to every version since. ive edited on final cut pro ruffly 40 hours+ per week since. now i just upgraded to final cut studio 3 about 2 weeks ago and ive been having major issues with speed and freezing and rendering and the new sharing features and motion and everything.
    lets start from the beginning.
i have a mac pro 1,1 with dual core intel xeon 2.66 ghz
    7 gb of ram
osx 10.5.8 (cant upgrade to snow leopard just yet due to sxs problems and heard its even slower)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (thinking may be the culprit)
i have 2 monitors one 22" and my main 24" running both through a dvi cable
now the first hour i started working the computer froze up completely, mouse frozen and everything
(never happened before) after a day of unexpected quits and constant restarts i disconnected my second monitor.
im still having the speed problems sometimes even seeing scrambled images for icons on my os dock. i dont know what to do. ill leave something to render over night, wake up and check on it and the program quit. again. i have a deadline on a video coming very quick, and ive been searching this issue on all the discussion boards here and creative cow and haven't seen an answer yet. spoke to customer support early in the issue and tried everything they said ie: new user, different drive, yada yada yada. the only thing i havent done is reinstall osx and flush my whole computer. im definatly not prepared to do so and then still have the problem. anyway. if anyone can get through this runon of a post please please help im despreate. let me know if you need anymore info and ill be glad to provide it, and if anyone that helps lives in the ny area i would be honored to buy you a drink in return for your support.
    thanks for your time.

HOW did you upgrade? Install FCS 3 on top of FCS 2? That is not the best way to do it. Plus some of the issues you are having seem like OS issues. The best thing to do is the "scorched Earth" approach. Fresh install of the OS and fresh install of FCS 3. Always when upgrading this is the best method. And the make sure that you can go back if things don't work is to get a NEW hard drive, install the OS and FCS3 on that, and keep the old drive. Or clone your hard drive (carbon copy cloner), then erase and install. Or at least clone your drive before you update what you have (which is not the best way).
Too late now, I know, but file that away for the future. Now you should backup all your data, then erase and install Leopard again, then install your Apps. This will take a day, maybe a day and a half, and then you will be up and running. Better than trying to stuggle for days or weeks with a staggering OS.

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.
