16:9 ratio project

I'm importing through slipstream I can
clip images 16:9 to get rid of unwanted areas within the shoot or mix in 4:3 ratio footage I am clipping about 150 pixles from the top and bottom and try to keep the clipped shape approx the same as the projects dv widescreen format Question is - is all this clipping gonna mess things up when it comes to burning? Do I have to keep all my clips in exactly the same aspect ratio. Thanks Tim.

Okay got it this time - good site very useful indeed I like the exporting into imovies 'trick'don't know what I'm doing but it works.
Can slipstream utilise the full power of dual cores when encoding?
If i could get the cpu running at a fuller capacity It wouldn't half save time.

  • FCPX DVD of 4:3 Aspect Ratio Project Cropped on Widescreen TV

I have imported some older standard video clips (640X480) into Final Cut Pro X. When I burn a DVD of a project based on those clips, I have a problem playing the DVD on a widescreen TV. Instead of displaying the correct 4:3 aspect ratio, the video fills the screen, cropping some of the image. However, the DVD plays properly when viewed via my Mac Pro. I never had this problem using the same clips in iMovie projects. In iMovie I could set the project properties to “Fit in Frame” rather than “Crop” and the resulting DVD would play the proper 4:3 aspect ratio on a widescreen TV, with black spacers on the left and right of the video image. Unfortunately Apple phone support has not been able to resolve this problem. Any suggestions?

The Video Properties indicate NTSC SD format. However, I noticed that that gives me 720X480 resolution. Perhaps that's the problem.
OK, I just experimented and when I choose "Other" under video properties format, then I get the correct 640X480 resolution. Let me try another DVD burn with this change, and report back whether that corrects the issue. Thanks for pointing me to double check that.

  • Mixed aspect ratio project -- best setting in iMovie

I am creating a new family project in iMovie (8.0.6) -- a "through the years" compilation of video clips. The older clips were shot in 4:3 on miniDV tape; the more recent material was shot in 16:9 HD flash memory.
What aspect ratio should I choose when creating my new project for the best results? I will probably output to DVD and view on HDTV. Thanks for any advice, Jeff.

I would use 16:9 for your project.
Then, for your 4:3 clips, open the inspector to the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tab and select "Fit".
This will give you letterboxing on the 4:3.

  • Motion project aspect ratios.

    The Problem:
When opening a motion project in FCP, the aspect ratio is completely changed and never looks right even when both settings are exactly the same.
    The Details:
    Motion Ratio= Project: NTSC Broadcast SD 720 X 486 29.97fps NTSC D1/DV Anamorphic
    Final Cut= NTSC DV (3:2) 720 X 480 anamorphic 29.97fps
    PLEASE HELP!

Well one problem I see is that you are using different setting for Motion (720x486 anamorphic) and FCP (DV 720x480 anamorphic). That will cause you other, ugly problems so you should make them identical.
When you say it didn't work, did you change the browser clip or the timeline clip? And you added the checkmark? That should do it.

  • Help using digital AV adapter iPad to LCD TV.(picture ratio)

    Hello everyone!
I've recently decided to use my iPad 3 generation, to connect to my TV LG 47 ACL using an Apple Digital AV adapter, the adapter has got two 30 pins and 1 HDMI cable. It kinda works, it only shows half the picture ratio projected from the iPad on 1/3 of the tv screen. I originally thought this would be a TV>remote>picture>aspect ratio setting,  but after playing with the setting; still only 1/3 of the iPad is projected onto the TV. I was hoping if anyone knew of any solutions to using the digital AV adapter to get full screen coverage on this type of TV would be helpful.
    Thanks!

The other port is the iPad 30 pin connector, just like the one that this adapter plugs into on your iPad. It is there so that you can charge the iPad at the same time that you are using it with HDMI.

  • Widescreen Preview

I have a 4:3 aspect ratio project from Final Cut Pro 6.5... I've been exporting as a Quicktime movie for years from FCP......So I know how to do it and have done it 100's of times.
Today - I went to burn it to IDVD and the movie "previews" in widescreen even though it is not a widescreen template or movie. It says "Widescreen Preview" in green at bottom right of screen during preview.
In Quicktime - the movie plays as it should 4:3.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help - it turns out that I opened the .mov in quicktime and resaved it. That seemed to take away the "wide screen" scenario. My guess is the my FCP project had a combo of Wide Screen and Standard Screen video in it. Even though I exported the whole project as a standard screen movie - IDVD picked up on the widescreen stuff. Anyway - that's how I solved the problem.

Went in to NVIDIA control panel and realized SLI was disabled so only running one card.
Re-installed drivers, enabled SLI, and added card to PPRO .txt file so that GPUSniffer.exe would recognize it.
MPE acceleration is now enabled and PPRo seems to be much more stable so far.
Thanks for the suggestion, Harm...got me going down the right path.

  • IMovie forcing pillarboxing on 16:9 video clip

I have a DV Widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) project and I am trying to import a 16:9 aspect ration video clip that I made in some animation software. I have "Automatic DV Pillarboxing and Letterboxing" deselected in iMovie's preferences, BUT everytime I import the 16:9 video into iMovie, iMovie insists on squishing it horizontally and adding pillarboxing to the sides of the video clip so that the video is distorted and useless.
    How can I fix this?

That worked, thanks. MPEG Streamclip has saved the day for me a few times in the past when Apple products weren't cutting it so I am glad it's out there.
iMovie was jealous at first and wasn't playing nice with the clips - when I added transitions, iMovie was cutting parts of the different clips in here and there where I hadn't edited. The solution was deleting the transitions I had added, quitting iMovie and starting it again then adding the clips again after the restart.
Anyway, thanks for the tip Matti!

  • Why do my slides project with a longer vertical ratio?

I'm using Keynote '08 and an Epson EMP-S4 projector.  Every time I project a Keynote slide the ratio is longer in the vertical making the slide look stretched.  Is there a setting that I'm missing in Keynote that will correct this?
    Thanks,

You can read about polarizers here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarizers
    Also see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lcd_display
When the polarizer in your glasses is parallel to the polarizer in the display, you see well. When they are at right angles, the light from the display is nearly extinguished. The polarizer in your glasses is set to darken the sky and reduce glare. The manufacturers of displays know which way your glasses are oriented in normal use and seek to match that orientation in their devices to maximize brightness. If you turn the device 90 degrees from normal, you have thwarted their attempts. If your device has two normal orientations..., well, that's the problem you are encountering.

  • How to make project in 16:9 ratio?

    Hello guys,
I apologize for this very silly question. But how do I make my project appear as 16:9?
I did open new project and set presets as HDV 1080i. But the project (main window) is still appearing
as 4:3. What am I missing?

That preset is 1440x1080 with non-square pixels. Click the View button at the top right of the Canvas and choose Correct for Aspect Ratio to see it properly.

  • In Premiere Pro, is it possible to change the project aspect ratio once started?

In Premiere Pro, is it possible to change the project aspect ratio once started?

On a side note, 'projects' do not have as aspect ratio, sequences and footage do.  And a project can contain any number of sequences or footage.

  • FCP project not the correct aspect ratio when exporting to Quicktime

    Hello All;
I am trying to export a FCP project in its native resolution (1440 X 1080) to Quicktime but everytime I try, the aspect ratio is messed up and people look taller and thinner than they should.
The project is a resolution of 1440 X 1080 as determined by examining the sequence settings in FCP.
    I configure quicktime (see below) to a resolution of 1440 X 1080.
So why isn't my Quicktime video the correct resolution when I play it with the IMac's Quicktime player ? I shrink the player to 1/2 size to fit it all on the screen.
My exact settings are below ...
    Export - Using Quicktime Conversion
    Format - Quicktime Movie
    Video Settings - Compressor - MPEG-4
    Quality - Best
Not sure if I changed the framerate - if I did, I probably changed it to 29.97
I didn't touch the other settings in the video settings - left them to default
I didn't change the filter settings - I left them at default
Size - 1440 X 1080 (The actual resolution of my source video)
I checked the box - preserve aspect ratio using letterbox (If applicable)
Other settings were left at default
Sound Settings - Format - AAC
    Rate - 48 KHZ
Render Settings - Quality - Best
Target Bitrate - 128 KHZ (This was left at default - I did not change it)
Prepare for Internet Streaming - Fast Start checked (This was default - I did not change it)
All other settings not specifically mentioned were left at default.
    Thanks. Tim

I don't have much of an answer for you, but to test try not checking the preserve aspect ratio. Rather than reexport the entire 1 hour just export 10 seconds so that you can trouble shoot different things.
    Hope that helps a bit,
    Eric

  • Aspect Ratio changes after the project was reopend

    hello everyone,
I have a project with mov-files with apect ratio 1,0, I wanted to change them to 1,33, so I went to interpret footage and change it to 1,33. Then I synchronized the mov-files with audio and made merged clips (all in 1,33). After that I saved the project and open it again and then the original mov-files are back to 1,0, the merged clips are in 1,33, but with a 1,0 footage (so the clips have black bars left and right). Does someone know what could be the problem? Am I doing something wrong so the footage won`t stay in new aspect ratio?

Did you check the box?: Re: Premiere Pro CC - interpreted footage reverts to original framerate

  • Change aspect ratio in a nearly completed project

I need to change the aspect ratio of a nearly completed class project from 720x480 down to 720x418.  My source material is x418, but I started the project at x420, and I need to get rid of the black bars.  I thought the crop tool might do it, but it doesn't change the aspect ratio of the project.  Please help!

You can't do this in FCP. You need Compressor to create custom image sizes like this.

  • Creation of Projects in 4:3 Ratio Truncates Edges of Video

I recently used a Miglia DV converter to pull some video that is in 4:3 aspect ratio into iMovie 8. The default setting in iMovie preferences and in the project specifics was 16:9, so I reset them to 4:3. I have since noticed that when the project is played, the horizontal edges of the video have been trimmed away - for exapmple, in the intro to one of the projects, the word 'Battlefield' displays as 'attlefiel'. In the clips, there is no truncation, but the video displays in 16:9 and so it appears stretched.
How do I ensure that(a) the original aspect ration is imported, and (b) that I avoid trucated edges described above?

I installed iMovie 6 on the MacBook and cannot seem to get it to avoid stretching images. I then reverted to using iMovie 6 on the G4 Mini and again, no problems. I recorded both 3:4 and widescreen shows and all cam out as desired. I have not as of yet tried installing iMovie 8 on the Mini, but I feel like the laptop is the root cause, since it's the only item that differs when iMovie 6 is used.
