16:9 Sequence Timeline Issue

When you import footage on to a time line that was shot in 16:9, you will often get a prompt that says (for best performance your sequence and external video should be set to the format of the clips you are editing. Change sequence to match the clip settings?) It then gives you a choice of yes or no. I guess this prompts up because the sequence is preset to 4:3.
Anyway my partner is an amateur at final cut so when that prompt came up he hit no. Therefore the footage that was shot in 16:9 was imported on a 4:3 time line and had black bars on top and bottom of the frame. He edited the entire project like this and it is unacceptable. Is there anyway i can change the aequence settings and have that timeline fill up the entire widescreen frame like it was ment to be as if i hit yes when the promt came up? Any help would be great.
Thanks

You can change the sequence settings, but this can be a little daunting unless you know what you're doing.
Why not open a new sequence and drop one of the original clips into it? Then you can click "yes" when prompted to change the sequence settings automatically.
Then, simply delete that original clip +(from the new timeline)+ open the 4:3 sequence and hit Ctr+A to select all clips - and paste them into the new 16:9 sequence.
The more correct way would be to set the FCP Easy Setup to the correct codec for your clips:
Ctrl+Q - or - Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup +(top left of your screen)+.
That way, when you open a new sequence, it will automatically default to the correct settings.

  • Seeking sequence timeline help, please

After some CC update -- the audio tracks of video clips aren't staying connected to the video clips in the Premiere Pro CC sequence timeline.  Meaning, if I grab a video clip in the sequence timeline and move it somewhere or cut it -- the corresponding audio track just sits there and doesn't move or get edited.  This results in a new nightmare of having to move the audio and video clips separately on the sequence timeline.  Relative to previous versions of Premiere -- I'd described this problem as all audio tracks not linked to their corresponding video clip.
Yes, they're all "linked."  That appears to have no effect.
I'm assuming some new feature was added that I don't understand -- and I'm very, very grateful if anyone can tell me how to solve this issue and get back to the wonderful world of truly linked video-audio clips.
    Thank you.

The obviouse first question is do you have the "Linked Selection" activated "Y" (its the one next to the horse shoe magnet symbol in the timeline pane). If that's not toggled to on you'll get the behaviour your describing.

  • FCP7  -1920 x 1080 photo  mismatch timeline issue

I have DSLR still photos shot at 1920x1080 (16:9)  ratio
Photoshop confirms the dimensions-- and also square pixels. (72dpi)
    If I create a timeline in FCP7   choosing  a 1920 x 1080   preset (HDTV)...
---when I place the photo on the timeline--   it does not fit the frame.  Black bars on each side.
So , my quesiton is   --Why?   the dimensions are the same----  so I think it should fill the frame perfectly.
To further confound the situation -- If I create a colored test jpeg in photoshop 1920 x 1080 (square pixels  72 dpi)  and drop that in the FCP7 timeline-- it fills the  frame perfectly.
So my 1920x1080 DSLR stills and my 1920x1080 test photoshop jpeg  (identical specs as far as I can see...)  behave differently in FCP7....
    Any help appreciated.

Click on one of your imported pictures in the FCP browser, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the properties for the clip. Either report those properties here or take a screen shot and post the screen shot of the item properties here.
Next, click anywhere on you sequence timeline, and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see the Sequence Settings. Either report the Sequence Settings here or take a screen shot and post the screen shot of the Sequence Settings here.

Does this mean the actual pixel dimensions are not 1920 x 1080, but are in the 16x9 ratio?
FCP7 has a limit of dealing with still images - they can be no wider than 4000 px in the widest dimension.

  • Sound disappears when dropping clip to sequence timeline

I have a quicktime clip that plays without problems when in the viewer window. I edit the clip as desired and then place the clip in the sequence timeline. When I try to view the clip, the sound is gone, replaced by a regularly pulsing beep. When I first opened the project and added the clip I got the warning stating my project settings didn't match the clip settings and accepted FC Pro's suggestion to change my project to match the clip. This is the only clip I'm working with. How can I get my sound working correctly?

Rendering doesn't solve the underlying problem. Your audio is not in a standard editing format (perhaps it is mp3?) which can cause you problems down the line.
The audio in FCP (with rare exceptions) should be aiff/ 48khz/16 bit. Other formats, sample rates, etc lead to drifting out of sync, pops and other really annoying anomalies.
    good luck,

  • Linking control of the effects timeline with the sequence timeline

This should be simple but I can't work out how to do it. Either Premiere CC lacks this obvious feature or I'm an idiot (don't answer that)...
So here I am, editing some effects - let us for example say I want to stick in a very fast audio fade-out and fade-in to mask out some noise. I want to zoom in close on the effects timeline so that I can finely adjust the exact position of the keyframes.
The zoom slider on the effects window is fiddly and doesn't automatically centre on the frame currently selected in the sequence, so keeping track of it and finding it once zoomed in is really difficult. Zoom control on the sequence timeline doesn't present these problems.
SO, as I'm sure there is a good reason why my effects timeline and sequence timeline are not normally linked is there a way of forcing this so that when I zoom the sequence the clip (if selected) in the timeline?
    Am I making any sense?
All advice (other than 'Have you tried turning it off and on again?') gratefully received.
    Howie

Because Premier allows you to look select clips for review in the Effect editor that may not be at the location of the cursor on the main sequence timeline I can see why it wouldn't be helpful for the two timelines to be synchronised by default but it would be useful if it could be enabled for those of us who like working that way. I am forever adding effects to the wrong clip.
My biggest problem is that with some clips, when I try to zoom in on the effect timeline I cannot get it to zoom in completely to give me the ability to move keyframes a frame at a time easily. Sometimes it'll let me zoom in to the max, other times it won't... it's very frustrating.
I admitted defeat earlier and asked one of the online advisers to look at it for me. They couldn't make it work on some projects either.
    Oh well.

  • Sync clip timeline and sequence timeline?

    Hi guys,
         Dumb question, but here goes...
Can you sync the clip timeline and sequence timeline when you scrub?  I want to see the 'edit points' that are in the sequence and sync that to the location in the clip (left window) timeline.
    Thanks for the help.

You can  GANG  the Source and the Program Monitors.  That should do what you want.

  • What do the following symbols on a Sequence Timeline mean

What do the following symbols on a Sequence Timeline mean <<<<<<<< . That is what it looks like. They appear in the Video Track. Cannot delete them and if I remove the video clip they remain.

This is the first time I have seen this on the Timeline. The annoyoing part is that there is no indicator as to what this is related to and  no Adobe Help info to explain what I am looking at. That is why I posted here and I am glad, Ann, that you have a suggestion. Coming from FCP I am struck by the lack of reference material on the Adobie site to clarify things like this. Adobe Help is like going to the Library and being handed a 50 volume encyclopedia to find information about a light switch.
Another interesting thing is that these arrows remain on the Timeline even if I remove the clip or slide another clip into the same spot.

  • Importing a PNG sequence from AE to PS timeline issue

    Hello Adobe community
I've exported a PNG sequence from After effects so I can stop frame animate over it in Photoshop. When I add the PNG sequence to a Video group in photoshop, it brings each frame in as 120 frames long where I want them to be one frame long each. Is there ether a way of adjusting the duration of multiple clips to make them one frame long ( I know this doesn't work in frame animation mode), or is there anyway of doing this on import? I hope this makes sense and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time

So are you trying to export this aninamtion as a .gif and not a .swf?
Either way I would suggest you re-test a couple of steps in the whole process to see if you can isolate where the problem is.
To start with in PS, are you working on a transparent background? or a white background? must be transparent....
For testing, create a couple of images with a transparent background in PS. Or use just one or two of your layers, save the file, import to Library in Flash, place on your stage, give you Flash doc a non-white color and test. . There should be no border or background around the image...
And if you use wmode of transparent in the html, even the background of the Flash doc will be transparent.
    Best wishes,

  • Anyone experiencing timeline issues? No drop down in three way cc saturation

Hi not quite sure when, probably with in the last week or so I've noticed that a project i started a while ago has become buggy.  The timeline needle doesnt scrub, different sequences show up sparraticcaly, saturation doesn't drop down in three way cc, I change the work space then it works for a second but goes back to the way it was.  It's almost like a memory issue (but my memory is fine), I checked my gpu (gtx 670 4gb) worked great about a week ago. Friday I had adobe on phone for almost 2 hours and couldn't figure it out. So I'm wondering if anyone else is having this experience.

    Hi Mark,
I too have this issue, and this time, I cannot find a work around. The dropdown arrows do not appear to function on any effect, and the timeline controls do not allow you to move the playhead, although dragging the mouse around moves the playhead in the clip playback window.
My attempts yesterday to trouble shoot involved the following:
Holding SHIFT while launching Premiere for a "safe mode" style launch - no fix
Manually deleteing the Adobe Premiere Pro configs and settings in c:\users\[name]\Adobe\Premiere Pro
Uninstall\reinstall without deleting preferences (option during uninstall).
    Uninstall\reinstall WITH deleting preferences
I'm completely stumped and unfortunatly this bug has already killed two deadlines for me. ANyone else having this issue, as I cannot narrow it down any further.

Please advise, as I see no otehr solution besides a reformat but the issue seems limited to Premiere.

  • Preview Timeline Issues in Premiere Pro CC

    Hi,
I am wokring on my feature film and since the last 2-3 days I have notice my PREVIWE RENDERS on the timeline stagger. When i give for rendering, the render just keeps increasing, the number of frames increase...sort of like a variable frame render...and just goes on and on !
I uninstalled Premiere CC and installed, changed hard drives. Still the problem persists !
Please suggest what to do !
    Thanks
    2014 Macbook Pro 15inch Retina 2.3Ghz Intel Core i7 Mac OSX 10.9.5

To get the fix for this bug, you will need to update. But I suspect you don't absolutely need the fix for the bug as there are workarounds. There's probably just a small number of problem spots in the sequence that are causing the issue. Perhaps only one. So render the sequence in segments defined by In/Out points until you find a problem spot. Then simply skip that point.
All of which begs the question as to whether you really need to render at all. In case you're not aware, doing so is entirely optional for purposes of smoother playback. If your computer is powerful enough, it may not be necessary.

  • Cross-hatched clips in sequence timeline?

I'm seeing a strange problem in one of my sequences which was working fine but on reopening the project, I see that all but the first 7 seconds of the edited clips on the timeline are now cross-hatched. There's no video or sound when I scrub over the cross-hatched portion. I've tried removing all effects and transitions but no joy. There are several other sequences in this project which are all working normally. Any ideas?

I had the same problem importing from Prem CC on editors ext HD (also mac) to Prem CC2014 on this computer.
Attempting to relink media hasn't fixed it.
Looks like i have to rebuild the edit at this end, luckily the footage wasn't media managed so have all the source files. However, it looks like a lot of the clips that "look ok" ie not crosshatches, actually have incorrect inpoints media wise.
However, I have the old version of Premiere CC on my computer, when opened in that it does the same thing. So i suspect that this is the much vaunted "reconnect media accurately automatically" feature that i watched in a promo last year kicking in, rather than a CC -> CC2014 issue

  • [CS3] In Adobe Premiere, clips are much smaller in sequence timeline than in source window?

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 to edit a portfolio together. I downloaded my own videos from YouTube as I had lost the raw files, then converted them to .avi and imported them into APP, which worked fine. Though once I started placing the clips on the timeline the video image in the sequence window was about 1/4 the size of what it was in the source viewer! I'm having great trouble with this as I'm used to editing on Avid and Final Cut Pro, and it is the only editing programme available to me as I have a portfolio due in a few days. Any help is appreciated! Thank you

  • Grant sequence privilege issue

    Hi,
    OS is windows server 2008
    Database oracle 11g r2
i have created a schema with name SME having DBA privilege from SME i have created another user SME_USER using the same tablespace of SME with limited privileges. The sequence was created in SME user. I am accessing the tables from SME schema. I have given insert privilege to one of the table in SME to SME_USER,but while insertiing we are using the sequnece with name IPSRNO from SME schema. Now when i tried to insert value inot the table from SME_USER its giving me the output "Sequence does not exist". I have given the grant select privilege for sequence IPSRNO.
Please guide me on this issue.
    Regards,

See Using Synonyms in DML Statements in the DBA guide

    >
You can successfully use any private synonym contained in your schema or any public synonym, assuming that you have the necessary privileges to access the underlying object, either explicitly, from an enabled role, or from PUBLIC. You can also reference any private synonym contained in another schema if you have been granted the necessary object privileges for the underlying object.
You can reference another user's synonym using only the object privileges that you have been granted. For example, if you have only the SELECT privilege on the jward.emp table, and the synonym jward.employee is created for jward.emp, you can query the jward.employee synonym, but you cannot insert rows using the jward.employee synonym.
A synonym can be referenced in a DML statement the same way that the underlying object of the synonym can be referenced. For example, if a synonym named employee refers to a table or view, then the following statement is valid:
INSERT INTO employee (empno, ename, job)
    VALUES (emp_sequence.NEXTVAL, 'SMITH', 'CLERK');
If the synonym named fire_emp refers to a standalone procedure or package procedure, then you could execute it with the command
    EXECUTE Fire_emp(7344);

  • 720p on a 1080p timeline issues?

Just got a new SONY EX1R camera, never shot tapeless before nor in 720p or 1080p...you have to shoot 720p for slo/fast motion shots so when I ingest and start to edit, if most of the shots are 1920x1080p but the slo/fast mo material is 720p, will that 720p video edit seamlessly on my timeline, which'll probably be Pro RES 1920x1080p? How does that 720 get stretched or whatever to fit the 1080 timeline if in fact it'll work?
    Or what would you recommend?
    Thanks
    K

fcp will automatically scale the image to fit the sequence settings. Quality should be ok but you might get slightly better quality using compressor to batch scale the clips before bringing them into fcp by adjusting the frame controls. You might also find the workflow a little simpler once you're in fcp as you won't have to render clips if they match the sequence settings.
