16:9 vs 4:3 - can same DVD be made with both?

I recently made a teaching DVD using PPro and Encore and had the option of choosing either NTSC Standard or Widescreen.
The DVD was a slideshow video - using images that were 720 x 480 x 72 dpi - and I chose NTSC Standard 48.
?Should I have chosen "Widescreen" instead? Which option is a better choice - and why?
Also - sometimes a DVD movie gives you the option of choosing either Standard or Widescreen viewing.
?Can I make a DVD that gives the viewer that option?

That is a worthy question. Unfortunately, you will need your crystal ball, or a good dowsing rod.
This will depend on your audience and the equipment (and actually the settings for that equipment) that they have. Some will also depend on your images. As more and more households and companies purchase Widescreen TV's, I'd lean towards that. Right now, I only have one 4:3 TV and it's my NTSC calibrated monitor for PrPro. The last regular 4:3 TV went away in about November, 2009.
Now, if you are sending the DVD out to a lot of folk with 4:3's, then that would be my choice, and let the 16:9 crowd rely on their equipment's settings to handle it.
In a few years, this will probably be moot, but is still very much with us.
I have begun shooting and producing almost everything in Widescreen and will be going to full HD within this year. Until recently, I shot and produced in 4:3, due to the install-base of that Aspect Ratio.

You need to purchase Pages for your iMac. You can buy it from the App Store.
I don't know if the version of Pages for the iPad will open the Apple Works documents. If you have the documents on your Mac and want to open them on your iPad the easiest way I can think of is to open a DropBox (Google it) account and store the documents there. Then you can try to open the documents in Pages on your iPad. If that doesn't work then I know Pages for OS X will open the Apple Works WP documents.

In order to be able to submit apps to the App Store, you need these things:
1. An Apple ID
2. Join the Mac developer program ($99) https://developer.apple.com/programs/mac/
Once you've got these, you're free to submit your created applications to the App Store. It should walk you through the process

To share the iTunes content between your computers, just enable Home Sharing from iTunes > File > Home Sharing.
You'll still have to sync the iPhone with just one iTunes library because of the copyright restrictions that iTunes must follow.

Might be an odd question and forgive me if it is an obvious answer. I just got a 30 gigger and connnected it up and charged it with my Mac mini at home last night. I have lots of music on my iTunes on my home Mac mini and I have some music on my work Dell Laptop(with iTunes). What would be the best way to sync up my two iTunes libraries (one on my Mac, the other on the Dell lapper) to the iPod, or is it even possible to use it interchangeably with both the Mac and PC??

Srvrmgr syntax: how can I create Named Subsystem with both Name and Description values?

In looking through bookshelf, there is no syntax discussed that allows you to include both the Name value and the Description value for a Named Subsystem/Profile Configuration. In the screenshot, the circled values were created with the server manager command-line.
In contrast, you can create a component definition with a Name (full name) and Description.
For CompDef, this works:
create component definition CompDefTest1_enu for component type AppObjMgr component group Fins run mode Interactive full name "Test Comp Def Test 1" description "Test 1 Object Manager CompDef"
For Named Subsytem, this does NOT work:

I have reviewed the help for create command in srvrmgr, it does not give the full name and description as parameters for subsystem creation. However, as you indicated these parameters are available for component definition creation:

In this case I suggest you to create a ticket on My Oracle Support to confirm that srvrmgr does not support creating a new subsystem with full name and description parameters, and request an enhancement request for these parameters to be included in create statement for new subsystems when using srvrmgr.

Can I sell books made with iBooks Author in the UK iTunes store?

Hi all,
I'm a UK-based musician who publishes a range of tuition books on playing the bass guitar. I've spent the last few months devleoping one of these books in iBooks Author, and the end results are really impressive. I submitted the book to the iTunes store last week (after setting up a US Tax ID etc) and it was approved in the US store yesterday. Here's a link to the relevant page:

My question is, is there any way I can make this book available to customers in all countries? I filled in all the info/pricing etc for all countries when I uploaded the book, but it's only approved for sale in the United States so far. Is there just a delay in the other stores being approved or can it only be the US for textbooks? I notice that the UK iTunes store does not have a textbooks category. Am getting worried now that I shouldn't have put it in the Textbooks category, although I don't remember being able to choose another option.

It is possible to publish books created in iBooks Author outside of the US. They will just not be able to appear in the Textbooks category as it's currently a US only category.
I can see in the UK store that you've got two editions of the same book for sale. One has screen grabs and is clearly filled with iBA features for £9.99 and the other at £6.49 with no preview images which I assume is in standard ePub format - both are in the Arts & Entertainment -> Music category.

QT for Win can't open .mov made with iMovie

Joking around I created a clip with the built in iSight camera in iMovie, clicked share, email and of my two windows recipients one could hear not see, the other, nothing.
Tried saving the clip as quicktime movie seperately sent it via mail and still nothing. The one recipient said she had checked for the latest Quicktime and was current (free version) the other, my brother, wouldn't be bothered checking. I saved one of the clips to a dvd not using iDVD and a QT icon was there but only the sound would come through the DVD player.
Is it even possible? I'm wondering whether to give up on interacting with windows friends with the iMac, I love the iMac (my first) but I do have a windows machine I can go back to (hoping NOT to go back but......).
I know from experience chatting with them (Windows users) is near impossible so wondering if I should give up on this part of sharing as well.

1.) You can convert your xx.mov to xx.mpg1, that should be playable on both platforms (Mac/PC).
OR
Since MPEG Streamclip can save MOV files as AVI, you can import the AVI (Large file size) into "Windows Movie Maker" and export as WMV (small file size, Microsoft's version of mp4) for your PC family and friends to view.
Note: I believe you mentioned you had a PC, "Windows Movie Maker" is a free video editing program that's included with Windows ME & XP installations.

Back up a dvd image made with 1.5 to as data to dvd-r disc .....

i ran out of space and i started backing upo my images into dvd media as data.
i noticed that my image on the hd was usually about 4.0 to 4.5gb , when burned into the dvd media the image size would only show about 400mb.
that was weird to me.
so in my first need to make a copy od image i trasfered the image back to hd and the used encore to burn the image back.
the dvd seems the ok even the size of data shows aver 4gb again but only the first chapter plays, is like some corruption has happened.
any body has a fix for this ?
i try copying the video is folder to hd i get errors
try to do a dvd shrink error can not read the disc.
help.
p. s. is the dvd image only suppose to work is is storage in the hd only ?
the user manual does not specify any of this.......

I own 2 macs can I synchronise my iPad with both iTunes?

I have an iMac and an Macbook Pro. They have different content, the MBP has more books (pdfs for work mostly) and different music than the iMac which has a bit of everything from books to videos and music.
Both iTunes are logged to the same iCloud accounts and I'd like to sync without having to delete contents on the iDevices.
From my understanding, Apple does affiliate each iDevices to one iTunes at a time to prevent illegal file sharing.
Please tell me there's a way to do that...

No. You can only sync with one iTunes library at a time. Syncing with another requires wiping the media from the device.
There are ways to get around this, but doing so is asking for trouble. Sooner or later it will blow up in your face.

Yes - I sync my iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch with the same computer / iTunes and haven't had any issues when doing so. The computer's iTunes will recognise the device and what syncing selections you have for it, so you can have different selections of apps, music, films etc on them if you want.

DVD's made with iDVD that once played now don't

DVD's that I created with iDVD several months ago are now not recognized by the Apple DVD Player, even though I was able to play them when I originally burned them. They show-up in the Finder window as blank CD's, and I'm asked if I'd like to burn them.

Yes. Suggestion only: Use Verbatim DVD-R Minus media and not Memorex. Also please burn from a disc image at 4x or slower using apple's DU or Roxio Toast.
Both Len Goff and I agree that verbatim is the media of choice. While Memorex and TDK are often the least desirable.
