16-bit color w/ Remote Desktop Connection?

I am using Remote Desktop Connection v1.03 on my Powerbook. Whenever I connect to my PC, I can only choose 15-bit color quality, however the program I want to run on the PC requires 16- bit color and thus won't run.
On the PC itself there is no problem, it displays millions of color at 32-bit, but I don't get this option when connecting remotely. It is running XP sp1 with I believe a 32mb GForce card.
I have also tried tweaking the RDC options but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone know how I can get 16-bit color through Remote Desktop Connecxtion?
15" 1.5ghz Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

16bit colour is the default maximum colour depth for RDP connections to a windows terminal server. You can increase this by editing the local group policy object on the windows machine.
Go to start->run and type gpedit.msc
Browse to Computer Configuration/Administrative Template/Windows Components/Terminal Services and edit the "Limit Maximum colour depth properties" key. Set it to enabled and select 24 bit. Click OK close group policy editor. You should now be able to get 24bit colour over RDP connections.

  • Remote Desktop Connection freezes Windows 7 64-bit

At home, I just upgraded from a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit desktop to a new Dell with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS.  Remote Desktop Connection from my old home PC to my work PC worked great for years even after upgrading both to Windows 7 Ultimate.  Now everytime I try to use Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to connect into my work PC (with Windows Ultimate 7 32-bit) the RDC window will freeze after a new seconds of use.  If I wait approx 3 minutes the RDC window will unfreeze for a few seconds before freezing again.  If I minimize the RDC window on my home PC, I can continue to work because it's only the RDC window that is frozen.  Here is everything I've tried already that has not helped:
    1. Trying reducing the home PC screen resolution
    2. Downloaded the latest 64-bit driver from NVIDIA for the GTX 260 graphics card
    3. Taken my home PC to work to test behind the company's firewall--doesn't help
    4. Disabled Window Auto Tuning (suggestion from this website)
    5. Called Dell support--they tried for about an hour to help but couldn't; thier suggestion was to order Windows 7 32-bit version OS and install it
    6. Tried running the 32-bit version of mstsc.exe - no help
    7. Using MSCOMFIG, disabled all Startup items - no help
I have another home PC running Windows XP, it works perfectly using RDC to connect to my work PC.  Also, I have no problem at all using RDC from my work PC back into my home PC (the other direction).
Here may be a clue:  if I start up my new Dell Windows 64-bit OS in Safe Mode, the RDC session does not freeze.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Hi,
Since it works in Safe Mode, I suspect this should be related to some conflicts, please try the methods in the following Knowledge Base article to have a check:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
In addition, please also ensure the NIC drivers on all of the computers are up-to-date.
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

    Hi,
When you try to start the Remote Destop Connection, what errors it showed out?
Could the other PCs connect this PC with the RDC?
So you have read this blog?
RDP connections might fail due to a problem with KB2621440 - MS12-020
    Did you reinstalled the KB2621440?
Besides, did you follow this guide to enable the RDC connection?
Connect to another computer using Remote Desktop Connection
    And also this guide?
Why can’t I connect using Remote Desktop Connection?
Please take a check with those settings again.

  • Easy print not working on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 client with Remote Desktop connection version 8.1

Easy print is not working on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 client with Remote Desktop connection version 8.1 . Printers dont get redirected when you connect to the terminal server. The server we are connecting to has Windows 2008 server.  On 32 bit Windows
7 and windows XP clients Easy print is working fine and printers get redirected in terminal server.

I am having the exact same problem. Windows 7 works fine, but 8.1 will not redirect printers. Others said to check local policy terminal services settings and my setting are all set as they should.
I think Windows 8.1 is not telling the terminal server what printers it has.

  • Server 2012 RTM Remote Desktop Connection Broker Role Won't Install

    Hey guys,
I have been searching for and trying fixes for this for 3 days, and I've gotten no where.  Thanks in advance for trying to help me out.
    Here's the situation:
I have a brand new installation of the Windows Server 2012 Datacenter 64-Bit RTM from MSDN.  This is my one and only server (just my personal one for home), so I'm using this single server to run all of the services that I need.  After a fresh
installation, I added the AD and DNS roles and promoted the server to the PDC.  Then I go to add the Remote Desktop Virtualization Services (the VM virtualization role).  The installation fails, but I can't find any explanation as to why.
I've wiped out the OS and reinstalled from scratch at leat 15 times, trying various combinations, fixes, approaches, etc.  including powershell, Remote Desktop Services Deployment, standard role-based deployment, etc.
Using the role-based deployment, I can get every 'Remote Desktop Services' component to install except the Remote Desktop Connection Broker.  I've tried enabling RDMSUI_TRACING, but didn't get any information at all as to why it's failing.  I also
    cannot find RDMSDeploymentUI.txt log.
I've also tried to deploy this using Powershell using this command:
    New-SessionDeployment [-ConnectionBroker] <string> [-WebAccessServer] <string> [-SessionHost] <string>
That particular item does provide some error messages, but they seem to complain about the Session Host not being able to install due to not being able to find the connection string key in the registry for the Windows Internal Database.  However, I can
get the session host and every other component to install using role-based deployment, except the Connection Broker.
I've run an SFC scan, which found no issues.   I've also tried applying the one update available in Microsoft Update, and tried it without applying that update (reinstalling between attempts of course).
I'm completely at a loss.  Has anyone encountered this before?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Is there a powershell command for just installing the Connection Broker that might provide some additional error information, or any
    information at all?
I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could offer.  I'm willing to try anything.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.
    Sincerely,
    Dominick

    Also Found this:
    1. You try to install the Remote Desktop Connection Broker (RDCB) on a server that also has the Active Directory Domain Server (domain
controller) role installed. This configuration is not supported by Microsoft. You need to install the RDCB on a server that does not have this role installed. See: Remote Desktop Services role cannot co-exist with AD DS role on Windows Server 2012 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2799605
    2. If you don’t have the Active Directory Domain Service install, this issue might be caused by the Windows internal database (WID) that
the connection broker installs and the Windows Update KB2821895. If you have KB2821895 installed, unfortunately you can not uninstall this KB. Try to install the Remote Desktop Connection Broker (RDBC) role on a server that does not have this Windows update.
Note: There is currently no official communication from Microsoft that here is an issue with RDBC and KB2821895. However, try the RDBC installation
without this KB and see what happens.

  • Remote Desktop Connection status supervise

    Dear Developers,
my level status in java programming is a little bit higher than beginner, and I know I have a lot to learn, this is why I'm trying to develop new project, some of my ideas, with your help.
Let me start this project description. The idea is, having 10 PCs in local network, 3 of them must be available all the time for anyone of the other 7 PC to connect using remote desktop connection. Those 3 PCs have WindowsXP so it is not a server to accept more than one connected through RDC, in this way anyone new comming to connection will disconect the existent one.
The java program has to supervise the IP of the 3 PCs for port 3389, and display red button if somebody is connected to those PC and as soon as the user leave the RDC for that PC the button become green. This idea is for everybody using this software to see if someone is connected or not using RDC to those 3 PC.
Do you have any idea how this can be done?
    best regards,
    Antonio
    Edited by: Antonio1 on Jun 30, 2010 11:44 AM

that's not a bad idea. I think it's better to program an application like java client-server because I want it more useful. Let's say according to your idea, it will be on the remote machine a java application (this is server) this is checking everytime net -commands. Anytime a positive response that the port 3389 is busy, it is sending report about this to all java application (clients) to the other machines who want maybe a new connection. This information is a trigger for my button red or green depending of the status.
For client application I'd like to be available for users to add anytime a new PC (server PC) with its IP.
Can we start with some ideas for java server application?
How the program should look like?
    thank you,

  • Remote Desktop Connection - Authentication error

    Hello,
I wish to connect to my work PC from my laptop. The remote desktop connection was working fine till yesterday, but today i receive the following error when i try to connect -
"An authentication error has occurred. The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted. Remote Computer: <name>."
I have Win 7 ultimate installed on my 32 bit system, and have tried solutions proposed in the other threads. I do not require a NLA check for connection, i have always used the remote desktop with this option unchecked. Could anyone help me with this please?
Is this a error on my Laptop, or do i need to contact the network administrators for this?

    Hi!
It could be as easy as you need to change your password on your domain accout.
Are both computers connected to the same domian or is your work computer connected to a domain and your laptop connected to a workgroup?
If your password has expired, this error can occur, so I would start to check that since it stoped working over night.

  • Remote desktop connection for iphone?

I am currently using my mac and remote desktop connection to access my work desktop. Can we do the same thing with the iphone? it would be really usefull

It would be a bit tough to navigate, but quite useful. I would suspect it would not be long after the SDK is released that we would see at the least VNC software.

  • Can't connect to windows 7 machine using microsoft remote desktop connection

I am unable to connect from my home network to the Windows 7 Professional machine at my office, using either Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (2.1.1) for Mac or the open source CoRD program.
When connected to the office network (which is running MS Small Business Server 2011 Standard) both CoRD and MS RDC will connect to my desktop machine just fine! (My MacBook Pro runs Mountain Lion.)
From my home network, MS RDC will complain that it cannot find the Windows computer if I just use the Windows computer name. If I use the Windows machine's iPV4 address, it works on it for a minute and then tosses up this error message:
Using the IP address of the Windows machine, CoRD just grinds away for a minute or so and then times out.
I should add that using Internet Exporer under Parallels from home, I can get a little closer to success (after fidding around with ActiveX controls for a bit). I will get to the Windows login screen, but then I am told that my user password is wrong (which makes no sense at all)!
Okay, geniuses, have at it, and thanks in advance!!

  • Remote Desktop Connection no longer working

Hi, I really hope someone can please help me.   I just switched from Comcast to FIOS and I can no longer remote desktop to work - so I'm not getting paid until I can get it fixed.
The way that I was doing it before was to connect with a regular Microsoft VPN (I have Windows XP Professional), and then I would use Remote Desktop Connection to log into the work PC.  Since I switched to FIOS it no longer works on either my laptop with wireless or my desktop which is connected to the router.
The VPN seems to be connecting OK; it says it is and it is sending/receiving a small bit of data.  But when I open the the RDC and try to connect using the PC name it says that the computer cannot be found.  I tried to connect to the IP address of it (after connecting through the VPN) and then it says it's found but cannot connect.
There is another location to which I log in using a Cisco VPN and then Remote Desktop - that still works just fine.  Nothing at work has changed; everyone else can log in with no problems, including everyone else with FIOS.
I honestly have no ideas at all; this is not my area of expertise to say the least.  If anyone could help I would REALLY appreciate it!
    Thanks much!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It is a new Actiontec router.
I finally got it resolved; one of my coworkers suggested checking to make sure that the IP addresses were not in conflict, and they were.  So, if anyone else has this problem, what happened was that the new router was assigning IP addresses to my PC's at home in the 192.168.1.x range, which was also the server at work's IP address.
So the really dumbed down version (for people like me!) is to open a command prompt on your desktop, run ipconfig /all, and then it will tell you your internal IP address.  (I was getting thrown off because the ROUTER'S IP address, which is the one you can look up online, was different).  If the PC's IP is almost the same as the server IP address, then you have to change the IP range on your router to something like 192.168.114.x.  There's directions if you google the router specs; I had to change it in three places on the router software; the router IP, the begin range and the end range.
Thank you, jumpin68ny, for starting to help me.  Hopefully now this may help someone else!

  • Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac Not Working

I recently purchased Office 2011 for Mac.  I work at home on my Mac at work on Windows 7.  I also have a work laptop, running Windows 7, that comes home with me.  My goal is to RDC my Mac to the laptop running Windows 7 to reduce desktop clutter, and easily work between machines.
I CAN NOT FIGURE OUT how to get Microsoft RDC:mac to connect to my pc.
I know that the pc allows remote desktop connections because I often use RDC at work from PC to PC.
SOME PLEASE HELP!  I have spent hours and hours trying to figure this out and I think it is the time capsule that is causing the problem.
My research has found that I have to use port 3389 to get this done.  I am pretty computer savy but when it comes to networking I guess I have no clue.  I have tried just about everything a and can't figure it out.
Thanks to anyone that can dedicate some time to configureing my time capsule to allow for RDC.

I cannot quite put together your whole network..
I work at home on my Mac at work on Windows 7.  I also have a work laptop, running Windows 7, that comes home with me.  My goal is to RDC my Mac to the laptop running Windows 7 to reduce desktop clutter, and easily work between machines.
So this is in local lan.. the PC laptop running win7 and the Mac loaded with RDC software. If this is local lan then the issue is nothing to do with TC.
That is only if you are trying to connect from work. to home through the router at work and TC at home. On local lan there is no blocking to ports. Are you using the local network IP of the PC Laptop?
Explain a bit further as it needs a bit more clarification.

  • Problem Establishing Remote Desktop Connection from Win 7 64Bit

I just got a new Lenovo laptop running Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit with Service Pack 1. I have installed all Win 7 Updates.
When I try to connect to other Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) desktops through Remote Desktop Connection over my LAN, I get the following error:
"An authentication error has occurred. The requested security package does not exist"
I can connect to a Windows Small Business Server 2003 32 bit server from the laptop without problem.
All machines are members of the same Windows domain.
The Windows 7 machines I am trying to connect to can connect to each other without issue. NLA is set as not required on each of the desktops, though I have tried turning the NLA setting on, and received the same error.
I have even tried running the 32 bit version of mstsc.exe and disabling the 64 bit version as discussed here:
    http://www.davidmoore.info/2009/12/02/running-32-bit-remote-desktop-connection-on-windows-64-bit/
    This had no effect either.

    Hi,
Based on my research, please check whether the value of HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\Security Packages is
    kerberos
    msv1_0
    schannel
    wdigest
    tspkg
    pku2u
If not, please correct it and see how it works.
Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For
more information about how to back up and restore the registry, please refer to

  • Remote control fails if remote desktop connection has occurred...

    Windows 7 64 bit. ZCM 11.2.
    ZENworks Adaptive Agent Version: 11.2.0.16117
I enabled remote desktop connections to the Windows 7 PC. I can

  • Universal or alternativ Remote Desktop Connection client

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering whether one of you, know of a better and maybe even in Universal of the Microsoft 'Desktop Remote Connection' client.
It's because I have an Intel iMac, and remotes my company desktop, but the DRC application are a bit slow in screenupdates and key strokes compared to the Windows client. I am guessing that it as to do with the Rostatta layer, which slows the application.

    Hi,
I wasn’t able to find group policy setting to optimize memory usage for Windows Server 2012/2012 R2, could be due to its added new features need to consume more memory.
Besides, memory usage of remote desktop connection depends on the programs running within the session, you may try to check programs those are open within different sessions to determine which one is causing too much memory.
If memory usage is abnormally high, please keep systems fully patched.
