16 Bit in CS6

It seems that in previous versions of (CS) I could set the bit preference for startup script.  I recently upgraded to CS6 and now must set the bit depth each time I open an image.  This is an easy work-around yet I would prefer to work on images in 16 bit mode automatically on opening and down size as needed.  What am I missing?  Quad core W7 system running 4G memory. Your comments appreciated - Ed

I know that I must be misunderstanding your problem. But, just in case, at the bottom of the ACR screen if you click on this:
This dialogue will appear where you can specify the bit depth.
If this is too elementary, I apologize.

  • 64 bit Illustrator CS6 plug-in - CSXSEvent bad pointers

    Hi
I am having difficulty with a x64 bit compile of our plug-in with regards to PlugPlug events dispatched from Flash panels. Under 32bit operation, all seems to be fine. XML is dispatched from Flash and it received without problem in the C++ plug-in. However under 64bit architecture, the CSXSEvent is received with invalid pointers. Here's the data received:
Under 32bit operation, the data field contains XML content without fail. However here it's acting strangely. I've tried compiling the Flash extension under different SDK versions (Extension Builder 3.4 & 4.5) plus also tried the CSXS extensions 2.0 & 3.0 but with no joy. The event is getting captured correctly, firing into the plug-in instantly, but the appId, extensionId and data are all missing.
I'm not doing anything special from Flash, this works fine under CS6 x32:
                protected function btnLogin_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
                    var objSaveEvent : CSXSEvent = new CSXSEvent("net.desl.ai.events.Security.Login", CSXSEventScope.APPLICATION);
                    var objData: XML = new XML("<login><username>" + tbUsername.text + "</username><password>" + tbPassword.text + "</password></login>");
                    objSaveEvent.data = objData;
//Send the data to the plugin
                    var blnResult : Boolean = CSXSInterface.getInstance().dispatchEvent(objSaveEvent);
Any help appreciated, or pointers of where I should look or have gone wrong.
    Thanks

    Hi
I have managed to resolve the issue. Here's what I found if it is of any interest to anyone else. I noticed that the event.data bytes were reversed (big/little endian order?). I managed to hack it by reversing the bytes by shifting the bits left and right (event.data << 32 | event.data >> 32). That actually displayed the XML from the Flash panel!
However the dispatch still did not work.
I looked deeper into the CS6 sample FreeGrid and noticed that the "Struct Member Alignment" on the project was set to 8 bytes (/Zp8). The settings on my project was actually set to 4 bytes (/Zp4). On changing that to 8 byte alignment, suddenly all functionality returned back to normal. I'm not sure how PlugPlug was sending the data through, but seemed it was coming into the  CSXSEvent structure incorrectly.
Not sure if this was a silly mistake on my part, but the 32 bit version has been happily working for quite a while now.
I've been using Visual Studio 2008 btw.
    Thanks

  • Is the Lighting Effects Filter still 32-bit in CS6?

In Photoshop CS4 and CS5, it's a real PIA to have to restart PS in 32-bit mode in order to use the Lighting Effects filter (FILTER>RENDER>LIGHTING EFFECTS). Has this been addressed in CS6? (Still looking for reasons to upgrade.) Thanks.

    See this article: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/979969
It focuses on GPU requirements and troubleshooting. The Lighting Effects Gallery depends on the right graphics card and drivers.
Run throught the troubleshooting steps first in order to see what needs to be done.

  • 32 bit PS CS6 as default in windows 7 64

I have a problem with Adobe Bridge opening files in PS 64 bit instead of my prefered 32 version.
I took the "Typical"install when I installed Photoshop and I suppose that's why 64 is the default.
Any hints for making 32 the default before I go playing with registry settings?

Ok thanks Curt. About the best I can do aside from setting file associations is to keep the 32  bit version of Photoshop open before using Bridge.
    Thanks for the help.

  • 64-bit Illustrator CS6 Print Issue

I'm having a major lag issue when printing directly from 64-bit Illustrator on Windows 7. When I try to print, the program locks up for 30 seconds before sending the print job. Not to mention that once the file does print the fonts get messed up as well. If I switch over to 32-bit Illustrator and print the same file, it's instant and everything is fine!
Any ideas? The printer is HP Color LaserJet CP4520 Series PCL6, and I'm pretty sure the drivers are up-to-date, but I'm printing over a network and HP support is a bit confusing.

After looking at some brief product copy from HP; it appears the driver supports 64-bit and works with Windows7.  The lag and font corruption could be a network problem, perhaps how the code is interpreted and stored en route to its destination.  You've stumped me.

  • Photoshop CS6 x64, Windows 8 64-bit and an error in my display driver

So I have 64-bit Windows 8, 64-bit Photoshop CS6 and an ATI Radeon HD 4770 GPU. When I go to the settings in PS, it tells me that there is a problem with my display driver so I cannot use GPU graphics processing. I would really like these features to be available to me, especially since my GPU meets the recommendations by Adobe. I installed the latest driver from AMD. What am I missing?

Might want to read this link about uninstalling driver  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1142340?tstart=0

  • Photoshop CS6 64-bit freeze

Photoshop CS6 64-bit completely freezes whenever I try to open an existing .psd, or when trying to create a new file. I have to force close PS via the Task Manager. The 32-bit PS CS6 runs just fine. I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, re-installing, even re-downloading the whole beta to be sure it just wasn't a bad D/L in the first place. This is all in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Service Pack 1, running on an Intel Core i7 and AMD graphics (latest drivers for everything).

    Check your video driver:
Determine what video card you have and go directly to the manufacturers website (nVidia or ATI/AMD) and download the latest driver. GPU and OpenGL support | Photoshop CS4, CS5: http://adobe.ly/OpenGL
Another thing to try: Can you create a new Admin user account, and run Photoshop from the new user, do you still experience freezes?

  • Problems installing Bridge and Media Encoder in CS6

I recently installed Creative Suite CS6 Design & Web Premium. I had previously installed the CS5 version and had not un-installed it. Everything except Acrobat appeared to install correctly. When I opened Photoshop CS6 (64-bit) I noticed that it used the CS5 version Bridge. I went into Bridge and unchecked the open at start box, closed Bridge and Photoshop and re-opened Photoshop CS6 (64-bit). When I tried to lunch Bridge from Photoshop the following message appeared in the Desktop> panel : Waiting for Bridge CS6..." Bridge CS6 did not appear despite waiting for several minutes. I then pressed the Start button and went into the Programs listing. Under the Adobe CS6 group I found all of the applications (other than Acrobat) but Bridge CS6 (64-bit), Bridge CS6, and Media Encoder each had generic icons rather than the expected relevant Adobe icons. I tried to load each of the three by clicking on the icon. In each instance the following message appeared:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher.
My system is a Gateway FX6802. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1, Build 7601. The system has 9 GB of memory. I ran CS5 on the system and did not experience any difficulty with Bridge.

Thanks. Being the impatient sort (inspite of the problems that can create) I only did a partial uninstall with the cleaner tool, taking out the three items that were not working. Initially that seemed not to work. As I had other non-Adobe projects to take care of I put it out of mind. I even let an updatee package do its wonders. Today I used Photoshop for a quick project. I clicked on the Launch Bridge button and lo and behold the proper icon showed up and Bridge loaded. After finishing my project I closed down Photoshop and Bridge and then went through updating once more. The other problem I was having was with Acrobat. I finally traced the problem to a bad installation of Acrobat 9 at the CS4 level. (Shows you how much I use Acrobat.) I used the cleaner tool to clean up the remnants of CS4. After that Acrobat X installed quite nicely. At this point everything seems to be working as it should. Thanks for your help.

  • CS6 error when trying to save a file

I'm getting the following message when saving in Photoshop CS6 Extended:
"Could not save "G:\...\_0008_DSCF7826.RAF.tif" because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
The issue NEVER occurs if Bridge CS6 is not running.
The problem occurs intermittently when saving individual files, and nearly every time I try to run a batch operation on multiple files when Bridge is running.
Since a huge part of my work involves batch processing files, I spent some time trying to narrow down the cause. I did 10 Batch processing test runs on twelve 100MB files. My batch process used the "save and close" option in the Batch dialog. I think the issue involves Bridge because:
The issue DID NOT occur (in 10 test runs Batch processing twelve 100 MB images with the "Save and close" option checked):
If the Batch action was run through the Photoshop menu with Bridge turned off.
If the Batch action was run through the Photoshop menu with Bridge running & Bridge's Performance and Handling settings for Thumbnails set to "Do Not Process Files larger Than zero MB."
    The issue ALWAYS occurs:
At some point when a Batch Action involving a "Save and Close" command is run through the Bridge Menu. My Batch processing generally involves 12 files.  Usually, one or two files  process, save and close properly before the error message appears.
I've reset the preferences for both Photoshop and Bridge several times with no results.
Is there something  I can do to fix the problem? Is this a bug?
    I'm running 64-Bit Windows 7 and 64-bit Photoshop CS6 Extended.
Any solution will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for helping me narrow down the problem, Curt.  I unchecked “export cache to folders” and shut off Windows 7 Search file indexing, as you suggested,  unfortunately, the problem still occurred when I ran some batch actions. I’m not sure how ACR indexes RAW files, but since I’m processing TIFF files, that shouldn’t be an issue, should it, unless re-indexing occurs automatically in the background?
Also,  another probably related problem I noticed is that when I attempt to batch process files through Photoshop CS6's Automate>Batch dialog, the option to process files selected in Bridge is greyed out and unavailable, even though Bridge is open and files are selected. I think this may indicate that Photoshop and Bridge are not communicating with each other, which may explain the file-saving issues some of us are experiencing—Photoshop and Bridge may be simultaneously trying to perform operations on files instead of taking turns, because each is "unaware" of what the other is doing, hence the "Could not save "G:\...\_filename.tif" error message.  Since there are scripts that should enable Photoshop and Bridge to communicate with each other and other applications in the CS6 Suite (they’re found in the Bridge menu under Edit>Preferences>Startup Scripts), and since mine are enabled, my best guess is that these scripts may be inoperable, corrupted, or just buggy.

  • Photoshop CS6  - problem displaying CMYK files in the project RGB

    Hello!
I have a problem in 64 bit Photoshop CS6 - a new file (RGB, 72 dpi, no color profiles, mode 8-bit) images I put smart objects (images, CMYK, 300 dpi, 8-bit mode) wanting to build a small presentation for the web. These images in CMYK in some places have black spots pixelowe mainly in places where there is a gradient, or green. When you export a file to jpg's no black spots.
In other applications, this problem does not exist. Restarted the program recording it again but the problem has not gone away. Photoshop settings are standard.
I'm working on Win Pro 7, a very good computer.
What do I do? Help me: (

I am not entirely sure I understand you, but it sounds like it could be graphic card related... possibly at least. Could you post a screen-shot of how the problem looks?

  • Trying to open a TIF file in 32 bit PS, keeps opening in 64 bit

I have tried changing file type associations in Windows, changing file type associations in Bridge, changing the registry, right clicking and selecting open with, and nothing works. The only way I can do it is to drag my file to the 32 bit PS icon. How do I make 32 bit the default version that opens?
    Windows 7 64 bit
    PS CS6
    Thanks

I was just asking to verify that they were correct.
Windows can get a bit wonky with executable files that have the same name. When you manually try to direct a file to open in a program other than the one it already has set up, if they have the same name, it will just go for the original anyway. I don't really know of a way to force it to work. However, you can set this up in Bridge and from my experience it is entirely dependable. But the Bridge File Type Associations have no control over Windows Explorer.
Have you tried double-clicking the Tiff files in Bridge and have them open in the 32-bit version of Photoshop?

  • InDesign CS6 and CS5.5 Export to Interactive PDF

    Hi Guys,
I am having this huge problem when I tried to export 124 pages including links, buttons (show/hide) and video (mp4) to interactive PDF. However when I tried to use CS5.5 to export, it stops at page 98 and prompts an error that say cannot be exported. In CS6, it managed to pass the page 98 but hangs at page 123 till I got to force quit it.
I am able to export in pieces but not as a whole and I believe that it could be a memory or ram issue which is beyond my control.
This is the first time I have encountered this issue. Anyone have solutions for this?
    Mark Plunkett

I manage to combine them in Acrobat X and the links worked, I was happy but for a while. When I tried to save the combined PDF, same thing happened, it just keeps optimizing running at 100.3% of the resources. What I have noticed using my Activity Monitor in Mac is that InDesign renders it using 1GB or Ram while Acrobat only uses 380MB of Ram when I have 8GB of ram available in my Mac. More the reason why InDesign should have gone into 64-bit in CS6, but was dissapointed it did not.
I found the cause of the rendering issue, it is not so much about the vector or image size (it does play a part though), it is because I was using too much Show / Hide functions in the Buttons Panel. There seem to be a limit to how much you can use and on how many pages you can have them. I was doing a "Drop down menu" in the PDF with this particular function, each page have about 40 Show/Hide buttons, and there is a total of 124 pages. That is what caused it not to export out successfully, when I removed the buttons, it worked after waiting for 40 minutes of exporting the file, not very happy it took so long, however it got exported.
I think that both Acrobat and InDesign developers should start looking into able to use Scratch Disk or let the users optimize more Ram to the usage of the software.
Forgot to mention that this only worked in CS6, not even close in CS5.5

  • Cannot center Smart Guides exactly? CS6

Hello:                                                                                    Level: Newbie  OS: Windows 7 64 bit   Illustrator CS6
I am learning about Smart Guides but have found myself a bit perplexed.
I have drawn a Circle with the Ellipse tool by clicking and then entering the values: 432x432
Then I hover the mouse over the "center" square which reads: x:260 & y:259.5 which doesn't make sense to me ~ if it is the Center shouldn't the x & y values match? Any way, so then I manually type in the x & y value boxes 260.000 and they both stay at 260.
However, when I pull out the Smart Guides and place the horizontal guide over the center the x & y values also do not match and so I enter the number manually but the values will not stay where I set them.
e.g. The x value states: 259.5 and the y value: 260.000 and no matter how many times I reset the x value it always reverts back to 259.5 ... ???
The vertical smart guide is also off by rougly .5
Now, since I am attempting to make a symmetrical object ... won't this differentiation cause "eye sores" once the artwork is done?
I am (still) attempting to construct a compass with a rose, increments, needle etc. etc. and my first attempt ... and I quote the awesome Jacob ...
looks as if I have dropped it on the floor
So, after all that ramble'n ... I suppose I would like to know from others if this is just the way things are and rather I am suppose to just deal with things being a "bit" off??
    Thank you for your time
    hope you're having a great day/night

    Hey Jacob ...
So, I did the Move the Folder but ... dang'it I'm slow at times ... and so, I am unsure if I followed your directions right ...
I signed into my computer under admin and then when I searched my C drive for the Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings folder ... two folders came up
One for the Admin account and one for mine
So, I right clicked on both of them and chose ... Move to Desktop ... placing both folders on the Desktop of the Admin
Then I restarted my computer and logged in under my user name not as the Admin & then opened Illustrator but I am still having the same problems.
The Align tool doesn't Align so I gotta eye things out. The first compass I showed you was a result of "listening" to illustrators X/Y/H/W settings.
And when I have the Align to Pixel Grid ON I still do not have integer values when they ought to very well be integers.
So, I just hoping I didn't go about things the right way.
I am now going to go log back into my pc as an Admin and undo the Moved folders and give things a go again.
Jacob ... you've been such a huge support to me that I cannot thank you near enough!!
    PS. to check things I made a circle that's 300x300 > the W = 300 and H = 300 and the X = 250 and the Y = 250 < the Align to Pixel Grid is on
Then I choose the Line tool and make a Line of 20px > then directly below I make an other Line of 20px with the Align to Pixel Grid on ...
    I select the top 20px Line and the Values are: X = 249.5 and Y = 132  H = < Align Pixel Grid is on
    I select the bottom one and X = 250 and Y = 358 and H = 20 and W = 0 < Aliign Pixel Grid on
    Then I Group them both and the values are: X = 249.5 and Y = 245 and H = 246 and W = 0
Then I Rotate by 20 degrees and the first set Values are: same as just above
The next set Values are: X = 249.5 and the rest is the same as above
    The next set Values are: X = 249.5 and Y = 245 and H = 231.164 and W = 84.137
As I go around the H & W values keep changing. After all you've patiently taught me ... they shouldn't change? OR the H & W do change b/c the bounding boxes outline the Path and Not the line itself ... right?
The 5th copy Values change to: X = 249.5 and Y = 244.999 and so on from there. Not to beat a dead horse but is this how it ought to be?
    Uhhh sigh ... ...
