16-bit radial spin blur problem in PS CS4?

I first saw this problem in CS2 (Windows XP, Intel P4). The radial spin blur filter introduces pixel noise at about the 8-bit level, which is horribly bad if you're expecting a smooth result out to 16 bits. It can be seen by taking a 16-bit image, applying a radial spin blur (10 degrees is fine), and then bumping the contrast way up (say using levels 125 to 130 in an area that's around 128). Zoom in to see the pixels. The image should be completely smooth but instead you'll see random dots all over. This problem was reproduced by somebody at Adobe during the CS3 beta with a promise that it would fixed for the release, but it wasn't fixed. My question: can somebody try this in CS4 and tell me if the problem has/hasn't been fixed? How about with a 32-bit image? I don't want to be suckered in to buying CS4 like I was for CS3.

Yes. The dithering is a designed part of the effect, but it seems to calculate the pattern strictly in 8bit, not respecting subtler levels in 16bit. The better quality in 32bit is merely a byproduct of the overall better blending calculations. If you really need this often, it would be smart to investigate the plugin market for alternatives or learn After Effects... ;-)

The clipboard error means that the OS or some other application messed up when placing data on the clipboard.
The reboot to open files means that something has gone wrong at the OS level (otherwise just relaunching Photoshop would work). We've heard from a few other users with that problem, but never heard back from them what was wrong with their system to cause that behavior. My guess is a bad driver or malware.

What is the version of Acrobat you are trying to install?

Are you getting any error message?
Response: I am not allowed to install.
Acrobat can be installed in 64 bits machine.

Photoshop CC (2014) is a completely separate application (versioned 2014.0, or maybe 15.0 depending on where you look).
You will need to download and install Photoshop CC (2014) via the Creative Cloud application.

A DIFFERENT spinning ball problem

I've got a spinning ball problem, but NOT caused by the autosave or recent items bugs.
While attempting to print from AppleWorks to a network printer, the program froze up. I did a Force Quit, but then got some very odd bugs. Now when I try to start up the program, the FIRST document I try to open takes five-ten minutes, and I get the spinning lollipop. After that, all documents open at normal speed.
AND, my printing capability is shot. When I do command-P, the program freezes and never gets me to the pop-up print menu.
I've ditched recent items, ditched autosave, deleted my AppleWorks preferences, and restarted multiple times. Any suggestions?

I'd guess this is either network related or printer queue related. Probably the printer queue. If you force quit while printing a document then the application/printer may still be trying to print this document. Check the printer's queue and make sure you don't have a document paused in the print queue.
It could also be a network issue. That is, when AppleWorks starts it tries to connect to the network printer, but has a problem because of being force quit and having its preference files corrupted (or other files it uses). I don't think this is the cause because this problem should be fixed by deleting the files you mentioned (eg preference, auto save files, etc).

CC Radial Fast Blur causes blocking artifacts HELP...

When I apply the effect CC Radial Fast Blur to one of my compositions in an adjustment layer, I get this peculiar black triangle that appears in no specific order and of various sizes every so often along the bottom of the frame (thus making my render unusable without cutting frames, which I don't want to do obviously).

I saw several videos where the new spin blur was demonstrated.They all had the option "blur effects & motion blur effects ( with strobe strenght, flashes etc...) but when I open the spin blur panel those options are not there.

Thanks Dave... How come YOU GUYS always know where the USEFUL topics are - as opposed to ME, who goes out and finds the Adobe forum topic where they tell you to UNINSTALL everything?
I finally did find a topic where they had the links to the actual products rather than trying to do the install/upgrade through CC, and downloaded Photoshop, extension manager, camera raw, LR 5.5 and did a new install of PS 2014.........
UNFORTUNATELY (this is starting to feel like one of those bad jokes where every new feature you get costs a feature that WAS previously working), after doing the install of PS, I started Lightroom to see if I could get images to Photoshop, and it told me the Develop module was DISABLED and I'd have to renew my membership... So, I went out looking for puppies to kick and when I came back and restarted LR, it SEEMED to work...... Who knows WHAT will work tomorrow...

Problem using PS CS4 with PSE 8

I have just installed Windows 7 (64-bit) on my computer. Everything's OK except that I can no longer use Photoshop CS4 as the external editor with Elements 8. Selecting a file and clicking on 'Edit in Photoshop' opens PS but does not load the file. Have tried reinstalling both applications but this did not solve the problem.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hey John,
While installing Photoshop CS4 did you choose only to install the 64-bit flavour of the application? I believe there are some issues if you have only the 64 bit flavour installed. I believe there is an option to set the same during the installation of PS-CS4.
Can you please retry by uninstalling CS4 and installing it with both 32bit and 64bit flavours?
If you already have CS4 installed with both 32-bit and 64-bit flavours and the problem still persists for you, can you please attach the files here with which you're having trouble and I'll try them on my Win-7 (64-bit) machine.

I installed windows 7 64 bit and photosop cs4 32 and 64 bits.
For plugins I use photoshop 32 bit as in 64 does not recognize.
When working with photoshop 32-bit, or by applying a similar effect on photoshop I "refresh" the screen, I have to give it a click above to update the action taken, which does not happen with the 64-bit . previously when I had windows XP 32 bit, something similar is happening but unlike in Windows 7 is became more confusing to work
Looking at other forums I found that others feel the same.
I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7, but can not get photoshop to work properly.The refresh of the windows is horrible, it gives many hitches, even small images at 72 dpi. It's pretty desperate
I have a similar problem with Photoshop CS4, Windows 7 and the Gforce 9800 GTX version 196.21
The problem is that whenever I do a process, I have to click on the screen to react, is quite annoying if you retouch photos, anyone know where the problem may lie?
Example of my problem
I apply an effect to an image flash
Notice how after applying it, as is the browser and thumbnail in the layer and I obviously still displays the result on the image.
After giving up a click:
I shows the effect applied, but the display remains the same, as in the layer.
If I want to leave the viewer have to make the preview zoom.
As you will see work like this is very annoying and stressful. Any help?

Did you update PS CS4 to 11.0.1? If not update before turning off opengl or updating Nvidia drivers.
There are also new nvidia drivers out 197.13. However, newer does not always equal better.

Problem with Photoshop CS4 after migration to new Mac

I just migrated from an old Mac to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks. I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS4. Specifically, two things:
1) When I open an image in Camera Raw, I get this error:
Fatal error - missing component
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
2) When I try to save anything, it tells me it can't because of a program error.
I've looked around for a solution. Apparently I had to install Java, but that hasn't solved the issue. A couple of people mentioned that reinstalling would work for a similar problem. My problem with that is that my disk is on the other side of the world and my new macbook doesn't have a disk drive anyway. So I logged into my Adobe account hoping to see a download link for software I have licences for, but there isn't one.
So my question is firstly, whether there is a simpler solution to the errors I am getting and, if not, if there's a solution to reinstalling Photoshop CS4 without the disk.

Did you use Apple's migration tool? It misses a lot of support files, especially in the Application Support directories.
You'll have to copy those files manually, or reinstall the app.

Help with add file name problem with Photoshop CS4

Frustrating problem: Help with add file name problem with Photoshop CS4. What happens is this. When I am in PS CS4 or CS3 and run the following script it runs fine. When I am in Bridge and go to tools/photoshop/batch and run the same script it runs until it wants interaction with preference.rulerunits. How do I get it to quit doing this so I can run in batch mode? Any help is appreciated. HLower

Problems with Photoshop CS4 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now my Photoshop CS4 is constantly crashing on me. Adobe was no help. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I don't want to purchase CS5 just to prevent this from happening. I had no problems with CS4 w 10.5.8. I also did a software update on CS4. Help please!!

Meaning what exactly? CS4 should work with some problems. Google, "cs4 and snow leopard" and read the issues. You are also not alone if you look the the right side of this web page under, "More Like This" you'll others with the same issue.
