16 bit save

I have searched and can not find....I am wanting to work in 16 bit. When converting from Raw do you use  TIFF or PSD, I think I understand that if I save to jpeg it will downsize to 8 bit..is this correct?

You can use either TIFF or PSD to save fully featured master documents.  I prefer the latter (PSD).
Yes, JPEG will be 8 bits, as well as introducing degradation because of lossy compression - not suitable for most master document use.

  • CS4 PS crash in 64 bit Save for Web but not 32 bit - help!?

Anyone got any ideas please on how to stop Photoshop CS4 crashing on Save for Web in 64 bit version of Windows 7?
Running Windows 7, 64 bit Pro with both 64bit and 32bit versions of Photoshop CS4 installed.
The problem: I design a website, add slices etc as I've done for the last 10 years, go to Save for Web and as the dialogue box is opening and the blue bar at the bottom starts to show it loading, it gets just over half way and then crashes, saying the error message 'Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working'. No solution available and then closes. Does this quite a few times (say 20-30%) of the time but not always. Tried the same PS document running 32bit version of Photoshop CS4 and it saves for web fine, never any crashes, only using the 64 bit version of PS. Need 64bit to take advantage of extra memory etc and one of the reasons the machine/ software combo was bought for.
Running a brand new (well about a month or so) Dell T3500 dual Xeon W3505, 12gb ram, Nvidia Quadro Fx 3800, Raptor HD etc built to run Win 7 Pro and CS4 Extended. I suspect the spec isn't to blame, checked all the hardware etc, no plugins that arent standard with a new install, so no obvious reason I can tell of as to why its not working. Not much else installed and started playing up before I installed other bits of software so doent make sense it might be other software cauing any problems.
Put a support query in and basically got told CS4 wasnt tested with 64 bit CS4 and directed to a possible support solution to 64 bit running on xp/ vista with general advice. No use whatsoever.
Firstly, anyone else having the same problem? Secondly, anyone know how to solve this? If its any help, I've pasted the Action Center info on one of  the many crashes:

The graphics card supports the new GPU features but tried with and without those turned on - still the same problem. Tried all sorts of preferences on and off but still no joy.
Would really appreciate any help/ advice on solving this.
    Thanks.

Been reading up on that c0000005 error and in all the Operating systems it is a access violation. There are a lot of hits about windows 7 and software not being allowed local access and be saved that way too. What I think is that windows 7 is not allowing it for some reason in 64 bit mode or some security setting in the local needs adjusting?
    I found this interesting fact
I was reading where testors were monitoring how windows 7 firewall allows DRM to run in the firewall. All the software they tested asked first for firewall permission (my software on my system asked first so know it is true on my other system). However, according to the testers, with PS CS4 the DRM does not ask to run with firewall premission. Windows 7 just bypasses the asking part and PS CS4 DRM gets firewall access.
    Edit by me:
Google the offset code and your the very first to report it.

  • Photoshop CC Save for Web Greyed out

After the last Creative Cloud Photoshop update my Photoshop CC 64 bit save for web is greyed out and I can no longer save as a png. Using Windows 7
    How can I correct this.
    thanks,
    Buddy

I have the same problem. Save for web grayed out no matter what. Also photoshop denies opening any png file, also the png format sometimes doesn't even appear in Save as.
I can import png by choosing Open As and selecting Camera Raw. But then I can't save as png again. QC slacking at Adobe or what? Never experienced these kinds of difficulties with earlier versions. Might just as well brush off my old CS4 masters collection.
Will try a reinstall although I frankly don't have the time to wait for the endless download.

  • Texture Artists: Auto Save As Type

I have used photoshop for years now. Mostly I do texture's for virtual enviornments. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature that allowed the users to automate saving as different file types from a PSD. Let me give you an example:
    Current Versions:
I am working on a texture for a chair. I have one PSD named Chair.psd that has tons of information in it. Once I finish the texture, I have to goto save as --> targa (it auto renames to chair copy.tga) ---> rename it to Chair_DIF.tga --> save --> select 24 bit --> save. Finally I have it saved. Now I have to change a few layers I have set, or hide some and then save it as Chair_SPEC.tga and sometimes Chair_EMS.tga, Chair_NRM.tga. Once I am done with all that I can test it on the model in 3d... if a change needs to be made, I have to make it and then go through that whole process again. It is very repatative and pointless. Many times I have to do it 20+ times...
    New Feature:
Allow the user to enable a special mode through the main PS preferences designed for texture artists. It adds a new drop down menu next to help labeled 'Auto Save As' or something. When you select it to drop down, it only has one option, 'new'. You hit 'new' and it brings up a dialog of what you want to call the new profile, what filetype, where the file should be saved, and and options the file type selected would normally have. For the filename, you should be able to choose if you want a whole new name, or just add a suffix or prefex to the PSD name. Once youe done, you hit create and it saves that profile to the PSD your working with. This is important, the options should save to the PSD. That way, any time you open up a file, it is automatically set to the save options and locations you want for that texture. From then on, any time you drop down that list, a texture artist could just click Diffuse Map, and it would auto save it to the proper location, filetype, and name. You could create one for anything you want: Specular, Normal, Emmisives, Balding, and so on.
I beg you, please add this option in the next version of PS!

So much love. However, it adds the layer comps index number to the file names on save. I suppose this would be good if you had comps the same name. However, I don't, so I changed the script manually and commented out that code.
If anyone comes across this thread and wants to know how to remove the indexing of the file names, you can open up the Layer Compes to File script in notepad or any text editor and comment out the line:
         fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(compsIndex, 4);
Simply add // in front of it. So it should look like:
         //fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(compsIndex, 4);
However, I must warn you, if you do have comps the same name it won't work. It will save over the previous comps that have the same name...
    Thanks again J.

  • PS/Camera raw (hdr pro 32 bit). Saving as Tiff, photo has errors!

While using PS/Camera raw. I am doing an HDR image. I select my three raw images and edit in  "merge to hdr pro".
I then set to 32 bit, save as tiff (ctrl+s). The files always have errors and can not be opened.
If i save in 16 bit the file works fine.
Here is what the file looks like in my folder. Look at the upper right image.
    Camera raw 7.3 with PS CS6. Windows 7 64.
    EDIT:
I found that when Camera raw is done merging the photos and places tehm into Photoshop. Even though i can not save them as a Tiff, i can open them in NIK HDR, choopse any options there, then it will save as a Tiff.

    Hi!
I have the same problem. I exported 5 photos out of Lightroom 4.3 and used "merge to hdr pro".
When I saved the 32Bit Tiff it looked the same like your example.
Have you found a solution to this problem?

  • 8 bits vs 32 bits?  What are the advantages?

Hi, sorry about his basic question, but, what are the advantages of working in 32 bit mode? Is a broader, deeper color range available?
Apparently some tools only work in 8 bit mode -- so is 8 bit still the typical work environment?
    Thanks

This a huge, complicated and confusing subject which cannot be explained in a few lines here:
Trying to take your questions one by one:
32-bit per channel and HDR: This is a procedure where you can combine a number of digital photographs which were taken with differing exposures for the highlights and for the shadows and combine them into a single image in order to retain a wider dynamic range. (The results that I have seen from the use of this technique have mostly been somewhat bizarre and perfectly hideous!).
    >For instance, when someone saves their 16-bit ProPhoto RGB image ( a superwide gamut space ), then converts to 8-bit Adobe RGB, and then converts to SWOP CMYK, the additional gamut found in the ProPhoto RGB will be clipped or reduced down to the Adobe RGB gamut.
We need to break that down a bit:
    >Saves their 16-bit (per channel) ProPhoto RGB image ( a superwide gamut space ):
    Correct.
    >Then re-opens [or duplicates], the Saved 16-bit (per channel) ProPhoto RGB image and converts to 8-bit (per channel) Adobe RGB:
That produces an RGB file which has been "clipped" to fit the smaller AdobeRGB space but it is still a 16-bit (per channel) file.
    >and then converts to SWOP CMYK:
Now you have CONVERTED your RGB colors to generate printing plates that will produce as close a replica as you can get to your Soft-preview of your (current) AdobeRGB image
when printed on a Press which EXACTLY matches the conditions dictated by the CMYK Profile that you used.
But you still have a 16-bit per Channel file UNTIL you change the Image mode to 8 Bits.
    >if you retain the 16-bit ProPhoto RGB and go straight to SWOP CMYK, the color will be clipped to fit inside the SWOP space.
Not exactly: Your RGB image will be mapped to individual C, M, and Y Plates, and a Black plate will be generated (using the attributes of your specified CMYK Profile concerning GCR and Total Ink) in order to give you the best reproduction on Press (when real INK hits PAPER!) of your original RGB image.
But do read more on this subject because it is supremely important that you understand it fully.
I highly recommend Dan Margulis' "Professional Photoshop" for gaining a better understanding of this subject.

  • Can PSE8 for mac convert an 8 bit image to 16 bit?

can Photoshop Elements 8 for mac convert an 8 bit image to 16 bit?
I use Photomatix Pro and when I am working with a single image in Photomatix Pro, it has to be 16 bit.

Yes, you can. These are the steps when using the elements editor.
    Depending on the file format:
    1. If this file is from a camera raw file, simply open the original
raw file and at the bottom of the camera raw dialog choose 16 bits.
This would open the file in pse editor as a 16 bit file.
Then save as a tif file with no compression.
    2. If the file is a jpg or tif file, in the pse editor select: File>Open As>Camera Raw.
This will open the file in the camera raw dialog. Then select 16 bit from the menu
at the bottom of the camera raw dialog. After the file opens in pse editor, in 16 bits,
save as a tif with no compression.
    3. If the file is a psd file with no layers, then step 2 will work. If the psd file has layers,
open the the file in pse editor and resave the file using maximize compatibilty.
This will allow the psd file to have both layers and open in the camera raw dialog as
in step 2. When you open the file in the pse editor, it will just be a single layer and then
just save as a tif file with no compression.
    Hope this helps.

  • Large project in Premiere CS3 causes Windows XP64 to reboot

Ok...I have a rather sizeable project going in Premiere CS3.  It contains a rather large number of animations created in Autodesk Maya (most between 10 seconds and 3 minutes long) and a large number of stills, as well as scrolling background (a .mov file I created using Photoshop and Premiere) and a soundtrack created by myself (in Cakewalk/Sonar).  The total project is about 18 1/2 minutes in length....around 8 video tracks and 3 audio tracks at the moment. The main problem is that when I start working on it...either importing files and especially moving files around in the project or even just hitting the playback button, the system just reboots.  I have seen the infamous Windows "blue screen of death" flash briefly once or twice, but it doesn't hang...just goes right to the system BIOS screen.  The ONLY thing that seems to help is basically saving the project like every 30 seconds.  Import a file, save, conform file to widescreen, save, bring file into project, save, move file around a bit, save, add crossfade, save....you get the idea.
Now before I go too much futher here, I suspect the problem isn't actually with Adobe/Premiere as I had this happen a few times while I was creating the sound track in Sonar 4 as well.  The sound track is basically a pseudo-orchastral piece and is equally around 18 1/2 minutes long....currently with around 42 tracks of audio and 5 midi tracks.  The audio has been sampled down to a standard stereo wav file for the import into Premiere. And yes, as the audio portion of this project got bigger and bigger, it caused a few reboots as well (not to mention drop-outs, studders and all the other fun stuff associated with audio production).  With that, I was able to "compact" the Sonar file (basically a Sonar project defrag) and the reboot problem seems to have went away on that end.
The system itself SHOULD be able to handle this project...not top of the line, but pretty beefy. 2nd generation Intel i5 quad core, 16 gigs of Kingston DR-1600 RAM, Tascam US-428 for the audio and a good 2+ terabytes across 5 harddrives (3 internal 3 gig-per-second SATA's, 2 USB).  Also has a 4 gig HIS vid card with ATI chipset (still can't afford a FirePro yet).  While Premiere is installed on the (comparatively dinky) 160 gig C drive, I'm using the 500 gig E drive internal and a 500 gig USB drive as my work drives.  Most of the Maya animations are on the internal E drive but the rest...the stills and Premiere files and such...are on the USB drive.  I.e., the system itself should have plenty of rendering power for this.  Also I have replaced the C drive with a nearly identical twin.  After a recent crash, I finally broke down and got a backup C drive...in other words, I'm sure the drive(s) are a-ok...even put a brand new 500 watt power supply in just in case.
I have already re-installed XP64...a couple of times in fact, as just before I started this project one of those god-foresaken MS "critical updates" crashed the crap out of my computer.  Then on the first reinstall, something hosed in .NET framework during the "night of a thousand updates" so I had to scrap it and start the reinstall all over again.  Likewise, I reinstalled Premiere CS3 (along with everything else including Maya) once I finally had the computer running again.
A quick note here: I did create my own custom 1080 Hi Def widescreen settings for Premiere since CS3 didn't appear to have any such thing.  For short projects they seem to work just fine...although admitedly, the render time is a serious b*tch.  Likewise, all the Maya animations have been rendered out at 1080 widescreen, production quality (yea...the render time there was a killer too).
Another quick note:  While I'm trying to use Premiere exclusively while I'm working, on occasion I have had to open either Photoshop or Maya to deal with a couple of stills...and when I open something else, I get a "windows virtual memory to low" (16 gigs of RAM and the virtual memory is too low??).  Otherwise, except for Avira (virus scanner) I don't really have anything else running in memory...no screen savers, no desktop pictures, no Instant Messanger crap, etc..  Never cared for bells and whistles and such, so the system is pretty clean in that regard (and I do keep up on my degrags as well).
Finally, while I -am- grateful for any helpful suggestions regarding this, please do NOT simply tell me to upgrade something (Premiere, Windows, etc) as point blank; it ain't gonna happen.  Aside from the fact that Adobe seems to have made Premiere CS4 and up much more difficult to use (I have -many- niggles about the newer interfaces there...using CS5.5 at the college and it's REALLY annoying) and aside from my wife being a MS programmer/developer and having to listen to her complain about Windows 7 and 8, we're in the process of buying a new house, so any and all "disposable income" is nill...and will be for quite some time.  No money...zero...nadda...i.e. no upgrades.  Further, while granted this is certainly the biggest project I've done to date, I've ran this setup/configuration for at least the past 3 years now without a hitch...this all seems to have started with that last MS critical update (at the risk of sounding paranoid, I'm really starting to think they slid a nasty in that last one to FORCE people to upgrade since they're discontinuing XP64 support soon).
Alrighty...I know that's a lot but I wanted to provide as many details as I could here in hopes that someone can help me get a handle on this reboot issue.  Getting to be REALLY annoying having to save every 30 seconds or so.  I have searched the help files, but got tired of randomly sorting thru all the blather and not finding anything helpful.
I'm grateful for any help here...thanks!
    Jim

Well, I'm about 98% sure it isn't a hardware problem.  I had already pulled the RAM and tried some backup RAM I have sitting in the box (8 gigs of Corsair), went thru the harddrives weeks ago with Chkdsk and everything was a-ok there (a couple of bad clusters on the old C drive, but that has since been replaced and is on the shelf as a backup), motherboard seems to be fine, re-seated all cards and cables, etc..  Again I even slapped a new 500 watt PS in just in case (the old one was a 400 watt and with all the crap I have on this system, thought it might have been a voltage drop off issue...nadda).   I did have a bit of a heat problem a while back...one of the case cooling fans was going bad and the CPU was getting just hot enough to trip the system (about 5 degrees over).  That said, that also shows up in the BIOS monitor as well and was easy enough to track down.  Either way, the bad cooling fan has been replaced and I even added a "squirrel cage" style fan as well...system is running nice and cool now.
BTW...I used to be A+ certified on both PC's and Macs when I was a hardware tech (not to mention HP, IBM and Lexmark certified, Cat 5 installer, etc), so I like to think I know my hardware fairly well.  Not just a weekend warrior on that front...used to do it for a living.
I had also already tried manually resizing the paging file as well...tried different sizes, tried spreading it out across the drives, etc..  Didn't really make a difference either way and again the only time the virtual memory low comes up is if I try to open Photoshop or Maya while this big project is open in Premiere.  That said, Photoshop and Maya both tend to be pigs when it comes to memory/RAM (Photoshop especially).  Doesn't seem to happen with Illustrator or any other program....just PS and Maya if this project is open in Premiere.
One other oddity I have noticed recently is actually with Maya.  Before all of this started...in other words, before that last MS critical update and 3 days of reinstalling software...I used to be able to do a background render with Maya and still be able to keep working on stuff.  I'd fire off batch render and then I could move on to other things...editing images in Photoshop (CS 5 there if it matters), surfing the web and even doing some light stuff in Premiere.  Since this problem has been occuring however, I have noticed that the Maya batch renders are REALLY slowing down the system big time.  Difficult to even check my email while a batch is running.  Likewise, I have noticed that since I upgraded the Maya from 2011 to 2013, Maya has a nasty tendency to freeze during a batch render.  If I have a long batch render, I'll set it up to run over night...when I get up the next moring, the render itself will still be running (you can see Mayabatch.exe still going in processes under Task Manager) but Maya is totally frozen up.  Now I did that update at the same time as the rest of this mess happened so I don't know if these problems are due to the Maya upgrade or the (apparent) Windows problem...I'm inclined to believe the latter.
BTW...after having a project file get corrupted yesterday during one of these shut downs, I've been double saving the files (so as to have a backup) and that too seems to have made things a bit better.  Hasn't actually shut down on me when I've been doing this.  That said, it's also a serious pain in the butt having to save that way too.
With that, looking thru the rest of Hunt's article there, I did kill indexing services...at least on the work drives.  it's about the only thing there that I haven't tried, so we'll see what happens this afternoon.  I seriously doubt that would be the problem though as usually that would give an error or a lockup and not an instant shut down, but we'll see.

  • Illustrator 10

    Hello everyone!
I have recently zeroed the hard drives of my 13 networked computers in my art classroom, installed OS X 10.3.5 and Photoshop CS2, and reinstalled Illustrator 10. We have only been using Illustrator, and only for about 3 weeks. While most computers are fine, every once in a while a computer will say "the application has unexpectedly quit". I restart, and its fine.
But, there is a student who cannot work in his document without consistently getting booted out. I messed around with other students documents on the same computer and they dont seem to have the problem. We moved his document to another computer and the same thing -- his keeps getting shut down and other documents seem fine.
I have read some of the trouble shooting sites, made sure my system requirements are fine, trashed preferences, but it keeps happening. I dont get why it is just in his document. If the other computers and documents on his computer are fine, what is wrong with his document that keeps making it "unexpectedly quit"?
    Can anyone help me?

hi leah,...i experienced similar problems and wrote to the adobe illustrator forum...someone told me to make sure my file names didn't go to the max of like 28 or 30 characters...it did seem that the problem files had long names...i'm not sure why that would matter...
i also noticed that a few of my files that became corrupt and that i couldn't open after saving them and closing them down were .ai files...so i stopped that and now only save in eps format...
these two things seem to help...i haven't had a problem file for a few weeks now...
also, like the previous poster said, my illustrator 10 will occasionally quit on me in the middle of work and it seems to happen when i'm working at a good clip, looking to import files, saving, the normal work stuff...
i don't know why ones work pace should matter either...but i've tried to slow it down a bit, save frequently, use eps for my files, and lately i haven't had any files go bad on me...
if you can still open your students file you might try saving it in eps format, shorten the file name and see if that helps...no guarantees...also, before i switched to 10.3 i was using 9.2.2 and never once had a problem using illustrator...in fact illustrator and photoshop were my most stable and reliable programs...although honest, i haven't had many problems with 10.3.9...the only other application that seems to quit on me every now and again is firefox...happily, all my other apps are fine...
good luck trying to resolve the problem...i'm probably going to upgrade to cs2 for all the improvements and also, secretly, to see if illustrator starts working 100 percent again...

  • Crash when exporting a complex program

I keep getting a crash when I try to export a particular Motion that's pretty complex ...it seems to be pushing Motion to its absolute max. This project is 1:03;18 long and is based on a template I bought from my favorite 3rd party vendor. This vendor gave me some suggestions for alternate solutions, but I'd like to see if anybody here has some suggestions before I go this alternate route.
Turning off the Motion Blur, Reflection and Depth of Field seem to help it get further before it crashes, but it still only gets about halfway through.
I'm pretty sure I'm using the latest version of everything ...Mac OS X (10.6.2 ...Motion 4.0.3. As you'll see from the info on my profile, I've got a decent amount of muscle. I've also got a ATI Radeon HD 4970 graphics card, which I think this forum was suggesting when I bought this computer about 10 months ago.
    Thoughts? Thanks!

    Hey Bryce,
What does your crash log look like? Have you tried running Activity Monitor and seeing if you're using all your memory?
A trick I've used to render complex Motion projects is to cut them into an FCP timeline, set the render to 8 bit, then select a section of the project (mark in, move, mark out, Select In-Out (option-a), then chose Render Selection. Render that bit, Save your project, move your marks and repeat. This way you can proceed step by step thru your project until it is completely rendered. If you crash, you've only lost the last render. Sometimes it helps to Quit FCP between renders. Once your whole project is rendered (and saved), you can export a clip from the FCP timeline.

  • XFL - can someone explain CUBICS attribut in the EDGE tag?

As there is no XFL documentation, I would like to ask if someone knows what's the CUBICS attribut in EDGE tag used for. I have a script which creates new shapes in XFL, but I don't know how to deal with the cubics part. I don't create it, but than I notice that there are issues when I try to edit shape whithout the cubics info in the IDE (like adding new point). The solution is to touch the shape a little bit, save and reload the source which creates the CUBICS records, but anyway, I would like to understand it a little bit.
Here is a simple example how cubics looks like:
    <edges>
          <Edge fillStyle0="1" edges="!3786.5 0.5S1|0 0.5!0 0.5|0 3542.5!0 3542.5|3786.5 3542.5!3786.5 3542.5|3786.5 0.5"/>
          <Edge cubics="!3787 3543(;3787,3543 3787,1 3787,1q3787 3543 3787 1);"/>
          <Edge cubics="!0 1(;0,1 0,3543 0,3543q0 1 0 3543);"/>
          <Edge cubics="!3787 1(;3787,1 0,1 0,1q3787 1 0 1);"/>
          <Edge cubics="!0 3543(;0,3543 3787,3543 3787,3543q0 3543 3787 3543);"/>
    </edges>

Upgrading is always exciting, gbright! You can save up to $25 per line when upgrading with Edge. This does require you upgrading your device and accepting an Edge agreement. You will still qualify for your monthly employee discount off the More Everything access charges as long as the plan is $34.99 or higher. Each line has its own contract/edge agreement. You do not need to wait for the 4th line to be eligible to take advantage of Edge or the discounts. If you are eligible for the standard Edge, you do not need to trade in your current devices. You only trade in the devices when it is early edge. I can provide you more details in a private message.

  • How do I install Neospeech voices for Captivate trial version?

I tried using the link in the text to speech window, nothing happens when I click on it.

    Hi There,
Please find the download link for Captivate 8 Neo Speech Voices :-
    http://download.macromedia.com/captivate/cp8/Captivate_8_Voices.zip  ( For 32 bit )
    http://download.macromedia.com/captivate/cp8/Captivate_8_Voices_x64.zip  ( For 64 bit )

  • How big an image can iPhoto handle?

I suspect a problem I am having importing large panorama images into iPhoto is due to some aspect of the file or image size.
I have been working today with a 50000 x 4000 pixel image, which comes out to 897MB as a .tif file from photoshop. This will not import [unreadable file dialog comes up and says these files could not be imported and import failed].
If I open the image in preview and save it as a jpeg (can't do this directly in photoshop because it will not save documents larger than 30000 pixels in any dimension as a jpeg), it comes to 172MB and will not import [same error dialog].
If I reduce the size to 30,000 pixels x 3,000+ a bit, save it as a jpeg, now 44MB, it imports just fine.
And thinking I had figured it out, I played a little more with it:
I took the large pano, opened the full sized tiff
file in photoshop, made files of 29999, 30000, and 30001 pixels max
dimension. The first two were saved directly as jpegs, the third as a
tiff file that was opened in preview and saved as a jpeg from within
preview, which does not appear to have a size limit as does photoshop.
    Then I tried to import 29,999.jpg (17.8 MB), 30,000.jpg (17.8 MB),
    30,001.jpg (20.2MB) and 30,001.tif (322MB) into iPhoto.
    Guess which imported successfully?
    30,001.jpg and 30,001.tif.
    I am very confused.
[Apologies for the duplicate posting--started another thread on this same issue when I thought the .tif file type was the problem, but since I'm now more concerned about file size, I am reposting with a new title.]

Apple expert insists that the problem is in my image and not in iPhoto, that it has no photo dimension or byte size limits.
Since it has increasingly happened to me as I get more confident in making larger panoramas, I think there is something less robust about file handling for larger images, but the official word is that it is all in my head. Or my camera. Or my photoshop. But not iPhoto's fault.

  • First time overclocker

    ok hmm some questions
when i run cpu-z to check my timing i got 2.5,3,3,8@1T
but today i was snoozing around bios and in bios it says 2.5,4,2,8@1T, its set to auto. do you guys recommend i manually put 2.5,3,3,8 in bios before i overclock?
and about cpu voltage, there are 3 choices
    8.3%
    5.0%
    3.3%
    what should i pick?
    NF4 Voltage
    1.50~1.85 increasing 5mhz everytime
what should i set for that?
last question, where do i set my fsb:ram ratio? i wanted 1:1
i read a lot and i think i'm readying to overclock! once i get my new power supply tho

some tips. first of all, read a lot of overclocking guides. overclock with somebody by your side who knows what to do if anything goes wrong (somebody who is experienced in overclocking). then for the overclocking part itself. download memtest and burn it on a bootable cd. insert the cd, turn the computer off, enter bios. try some tight timings on your memory. save and exit bios and memtest will start automatically. run tests 5 and 8 both 30 times. if you get nu errors you know that you are safe. if you do get errors, reboot, loosen the timings a bit, save and exit bios, run memtest. if you got the tightest timings on 200mhz you are going to up the HTT bus till you get errors in memtest. if you get errors in memtest try to increase the memory voltage a little bit, if that doesn't work give it more volts. if more volts doesn't help, loosen the timings a bit. also very important. if the memory seems stable at a certain speed, use superpi to check if the processor is also stable at that speed. if superpi gives an error, give the processor more volt, standard your processor runs at 1,5 volt, you can increase that, but not too high, 1,65 is definatelly the limit . try to get the most out of your memory and processor. if you notice that your memory doesn't want to overclock any further, try to use an artificial memory lock. that is what Ratt explained in point 4. good luck with overclocking . but we aren't responsible for hardware failure, so keep your eyes open and don't do stupid things with that expensive hardware
