16 pin PCB Mount connector for NI USB-6212
I have the scew-terminated NI USB-6212 and am looking for a connector that will allow me to plug in an external PCB. If anyone could provide a part number it would be greatly appreciated.
Poke around on Digikey and see what they have that suits your needs. It's a 3.81mm-pitch connector, Phoenix Contact makes a bunch in their Combicon line.
NI also offers an OEM-flavored 6212 that has a standard 0.1"-pitch header on it. For interfacing to a custom PCB, this is very much a better way to go.
DAQ mates right up to that 50-pin connector on my board. (I'm using a 6211 with one 50-pin header on this product.)

Is it possible to setup a bootable environment for a USB-6212 application written in LabVIEW?
I have an application that uses a USB-6212 and involves both motion control and DAQ functions. I would like to create a bootable external hard drive that has the compiled program, LabVIEW runtime and DAQ all installed and stable under some version of Windows. I am having a lot of configuration hassels whenever someone runs into a snag on an older machine, that is back several versions or when I need to install a test station and the new computer has a Windows 7 where there isn't a version of DAQ traditional. Is this possible?
Hey hsb,
What you want to do is build an Installer. During this build, you will have to include all Run Time Engines, and any other driver you need to get your USB to work. Windows 7 does not technically have support for Traditional DAQ, but you can give this Beta version a try. I know it says Vista on there, but it has also shown to work with Windows 7.
Once you have an installer made, when you run it on any test station, or new computer, it should run fine for you. Traditional DAQ is very tricky now. Are you sure you cannot use DAQmx?
Please let me know if these suggestions work for you.
Thanks and have a great day!

HPE-210f, one 4-pin ATX power connector support USB card ?
For my Pavilion Elite HPE-210f, Product # BK169AA#ABA, HP support, Motherboard Specifications, H-RS880-uATX (Aloe), shows my PC as offering "one 4-pin ATX power connector."
Does that "ATX power connector" meet the requirement for a "5V 4 pin connector" to power a USB 3.0, 4-port, PCI-E Express Card that I wish to install? With no free PCI Express x16 slot, I can't mount a GigaBit Ethernet card, so the USB 3 card seems helpful, apparently faster anyway, for connecting to the SS-USB port on my Gigabit switch.
How do we decode/understand the P-codes (ergo, P3, P5, I think I recall) on the power connectors on cables from the power supply?
Also, the PC board specs promise "Three PCI-Express x1 (Gen 2.0)," and "One PCI Express x1 minicard socket (Gen 2.0)." I cannot identify the minicard socket, but I do see three identical PCI-Express x1slots, with only one occupied, so the slot requirement looks fulfilled.
Power cable OK? Comments, advice? Thanks! No, the 4-pin ATX power connector is for the motherboard. If you have a link to the USB card, send it. Some use a 4 pin peripheral (molex) , some use a 15 pin Sata power lead.
I am sending this link. It explains all the various connectors of the typical PSU.

Where can I find the pin-outs for 8-pin remote Hirose connector?
Where can I find the pin-outs for 8-pin remote Hirose connector?
Pin outs and wiring info is all in the Maintenance Manuals (same for all system cameras, F series, XDCAM etc.), - ask your local Sony Office if you want the info. The 8pin remote is for connection to the Sony RM-B150/170/750 remote control panels. For system cameras the same protocol is used between RCP panels, MSU, CCUs and camera heads. It is a proprietry system so extremely difficult to hack! The RM-B170 is the ideal panel to work with the PMW-F5/55. It will give basic painting control of R/B white & black painting, Master Pedestal, and Iris with the correct lens (Cabrio etc). It can also control remote Rec stop start.Regards, Clive. Sony ANZ.

Buying OSX App store on my imac and mounting it on a USB for my old MBP legal?
I want to buy OSX mountain lion in the App store on my imac and mount it on a USB to update my old MBP (running leopard so I can't use the app store.)
If I am using the same apple id for both computers is this legal or will the app store think I am putting it on extra computers, and shut me down or something?Just to be clear the OSX mountain lion installer will not open even from a clean install, because the laptop is running 10.5.8
(My imac is running the latest mountain lion and the app store is already installed, I am not installing the appstore as the subject of this thread is a little confusing i realise now.) -
MOVED: 3-pin connector for fan
This topic has been moved to Overclockers and Modding Corner.
3-pin connector for fanGenerally, the 3 pin connector on VGA cards is smaller than the CPU fan connector on a motherboard. You would need a converter or you may aslo need to mod the connector on the Zalman.
You could check to see if the actual contacts between the two are the same, in some cases I have been able to use a dental pik to remove the contact pins from the female connector of the original fan's connector and install it into the larger size connector but it's been so long since I have done it. In some cases I have been able to find the little metal contacts at an electronics store and crimp them on myself.
Since this is not an MSI product and this is an MSI forum, I have moved this topic from the VGA forum to here.
Good luck. -
I CANT FIND A 4-PIN MINI MOLEX CONNECTOR
I installed a USB 3 interface. It requires a 4-pin mini molex connector. I have an available connector but it isnt long enough so I need an extension. I did and exhaustive internet search. Cant find it anywhere.
I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
RLook for a 4-pin molex to 4-pin mini molex converter. That should fix the length issue (assuming you have an unused molex connector) since I do not believe an extension even exists for these types of power connectors in the first place.

SHC68-68-EPM compatible panel mount connectors
I am building some custom hardware. I want the front panel to connect to two SHC68-68-EPM cables (and thence to a PCI-6229 M series DAQ card).
From the support section, I know that the cable connector is the AMP 749699-7. I've spent ages looking for a suitable panel mount connector that accepts the SHC68-68-EPM cable. The problems are
1. The vast majority of panel mount connectors are female, not male as they need to be here.
2. The only male panel mount connectors are designed for board mounting as well. They attach to the board and panel with typically M2.5 screws, and latch to the cable with a latch system. Unfortunately, there is no way to retrofit latches to the SHC68-68-EPM cable because the backshell looks to be a custom moulding (with the NI logo on it), rather than an AMP standard part.
I also have a couple of CB-68LPR NI breakout PCBs. I can't use these directly in the enclosure because they are
1. Too big.
2. The AMP 2-174225-5 PCB connector on these is not designed for panel mount.
So, it's quite obscure, but can anyone recommend a connector that is panel mount, male (i.e. plug) and locks to the SHC68-68-EPM cable through a pair of jackscrews? Someone must have wanted to build custom hardware to interface to NI cables (?).
Thanks!Hi,
unfortunately, there isn't a femal to male converter for these connectors from NI, although I don't know about AMP.
which means unfortunately you'll need to talk to AMP on this.

How can i create a Trash for external USB Drives ?
Hello,
how can i create a Trash for external USB Drives or my TimeCapsule ?
Thanks. You do not need to create trash cans for individual drives. The trash can on the desktop holds deleted files from all mounted drives.
TimeCapsule manages its own space. If it fills up it will delete older backps to make space for newer ones. -
IPod Camera Connector for the iPod Touch
I have an iPod Camera Connector for a previous model of iPod. Now that I have an iPod Touch, when I try to use it I get an error message that states this device is not supported. Has iPod created a Camera Connector to upload pictures from a card larger than a 512mg card (ie a 2+ GB card or larger) that is supported by the iPod touch?
Thanks,
DeniceI don't believe so, as the iPod touch doesn't support "disk use" (it doesn't mount as a hard drive on your computer).

Can I connect my iPad mini to a data projector using a lightning to 30-pin adapter connected to a 30-pin to VGA connector? Or will this only work with a lightning to VGA connector?
The lightning to 30 pin adapter does not support video as per the item description in the Apple online store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter
This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Supports analog audio output, USB audio, as well as syncing and charging. Video output not supported.
You will need to the Lightning to VGA adapter directly

Package for DVC80 USB Video Interface
Gents;
Some info sources say that a linux app can be provided which will permit the DVC80 to respond to NTSC video camera input.
The DVC80 operates well in windows, permitting capture in Irfanview and a program called Dazzle.
The following data describes a possible application which may be compatible with arch. The interface in video apps, especially from USB, can be daunting. Audio is also provided on NTSC basis for camera input via the DVC80 input connectors(stereo).
The data below describes how it might be built in linux:

Readme for kernel 2.6.x Linux device driver for the Zoran/Nogatech USBVision Video Grabber
Author: Joerg Heckenbach <[email protected]>
Homepage: http://www.emuit.com/webcam.html (Dwaine Garden)
INTRODUCTION:
This is a driver for the USB video bridge USBVision from Zoran/Nogatech, a USB-only cable used in many "webcam" devices.
It supports streaming and capture of color or monochrome video via the Video4Linux
API. Most V4L apps are compatible with it, but a few video-conferencing programs
do not work yet.
If you need more information, please visit the Zoran/Nogatech homepage at the above URL.
usbvision-0.9.6 is the first prerelease of the 1.0 driver. I did many changes in the code and I hope I
didn't break working features on different devices. The decompression is completed. Just from time to
time there are some black or white error pixels in the image on slower machines. Maybe it is a timing problem
in the isoc interrupt routine. We stay a third of the time in interrupt and so it is likely, that the parser
is called twice. Let me cleanup the routine for performance, move the parser to user-context and add a lock.
For 2.6x kernels we can use the saa7111 from the kernel tree, so the make will not compile the saa7111-new
for these kernels. The bt819-new.c is not coded to 2.6. kernel yet.
I have tested the driver with kernel 2.6.1, 2.6.2 to 2.6.7 with devices "Hauppauge WinTV USB FM 1" and
"Pixelview PlayTV USB Pro FM" on a 600MHz PII system.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- If you want to help with the development, get the chip's specification docs at
http://www.emuit.com/webcam.html
- A Video4Linux compatible frame grabber program (I recommend xawtv or Kwintv)
xawtv is available at: http://www.in-berlin.de/User/kraxel/xawtv.html
- Radio Application to take advantage of the radio tuner. (some of the devices)
GQradio is available at: http://gqmpeg.sourceforge.net/radio.html
HOW TO INSTALL THE DEVICE DRIVER:
First way (The easy one)
It works with most modern standard installations.
a) In the usbvision directory do
make; make install; modprobe usbvision
b) Start your video application.
c) Enjoy.
If c) doesn't work, something went wrong ;-)
Second way (Not as easy as the first one)
You need this, if either usb-, i2c-, tuner- or v4l-support is missing in your kernel.
a) cp the following files into the directory /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/media
usbvision.c
usbvision.h
saa7113.c
i2c-algo-usb.c
i2c-algo-usb.h
usbvision_ioctl.h
c) In the makefile of the dir /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb, look for the line "obj-$(CONFIG_USB_IBMCAM) +=media/",
insert an additional line then added the line for the usbvision driver
obj-$(CONFIG_USB_USBVISION) += media/
e) Add the line to the makefile in /usr/src/linux/driver/usb/media/
obj-$(CONFIG_USB_USBVISION) += usbvision.o saa7113.o i2c-algo-usb.o
f) Edit file /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/media/Kconfig
Paste the following lines below after the entry for the IBMCAM.
---------------------------- Begin Paste ------------------------------
config USB_USBVISION
tristate "USB Zoran/Nogatech USBVision Video Grabber Support"
depends on USB && VIDEO_DEV && I2C && VIDEO_BT848 && VIDEO_DPC
---help---
Say Y here if you want to connect a Nogatech NT100x, or a Zoran
ZR36504/ZR36505 chipset based video/tv/radio grabber, to your
computer's USB port.
For more information, read <file:Documentation/usb/usbvision.txt>.
This driver needs the following support: Please enable (Y or M in config)
Video For Linux API
I2C API.
BT484 Device Support
DPC7146 demonstration board Device Support
This code is also available as a module ( = code which can be
inserted in and removed from the running kernel whenever you want).
The module will be called usbvision.o. If you want to compile it as a
module, say M here and read <file:Documentation/modules.txt>. This
video grabber has several configuration options which can be specified
when you load the module. Read <file:Documentation/usb/usbvision.txt> to
learn more.
---------------------------- End of Paste -----------------------------
h) If it is not already there (it usually is), create the video device:
mknod /dev/video c 81 0
i) Sometimes /dev/video is a symlink to /dev/video0
You will have to set permissions on this device to allow you to read/write
from it:
chmod 666 /dev/video
chmod 666 /dev/video0 (if necessary)
When configuring the kernel choose Zoran/Nogatech USBVISION video support as
module. You are going to need also to select i2c and v4l, and if your
device have tuner you need to compile also BT848 support or other modules
that compile the tuner.o module.
a) Do a make modules, make modules_install.
b) If the USB Support and the Video4Linux was compiled as modules.
modprobe usbcore.o
modprobe usb-uhci.o <OR> modprobe ohci-hcd.o
modprobe videodev.o
b) Install the modules:
modprobe usbvision- For a great radio application, try GQradio.
The usbvision module will also load the i2c-algo-usb, i2c-core, saa7111, saa7113.
VIDEO PLAYERS FOR PLAYING VIDEO OUPUT
Here is the setting to get the TV tuner working with mplayer. It does software video scaling, so you can have full screen mode with the USBVision driver.
mplayer tv:// -tv channel=43:driver=v4l:input=0:outfmt=rgb24:norm=ntsc:height=240:width=320 -flip
Here is the setting to get the TV tuner working with xawtv.
xawtv -c /dev/video0
USBVISION MODULE PARAMETERS:
NAME: isocMode
TYPE: integer (0x03, 0x14, 0x60)
DEFAULT: 0x60
DESC: The isocMode is the format mode of the data that is transmitted on the isocronous
pipe via USB. It is not depending on the connected video-hardware. Default is 0x14.

DEFAULT: 0
DESC: You don't need this option unless you are a developer. If you are a developer then
you will see in the code what values do what. This is a bit mask, and you can combine any
number of bits to produce what you want:
bit 2 debug procfs
bit 3 debug video ioctl
bit 4 debug video io
bit 5 debug radio io
bit 7 debug usb frame header
bit 8 debug probe and disconnect
bit 9 debug irq
bit 10 debug handling of isochronus transfer

FINAL NOTE:
If your device isn't known, add it to usbvision_device_data and usbvision_table in usbvision.h.
You can speed up tuner detection, when adding "options tuner addr=your_addr" to /etc/modules.conf.
If your device isn't known, edit line (modprobe usbvision CustomDevice="0x0573 0x4D31 0 7113 3 PAL 1 1 1 5 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1")
in 'usbvision.rc' file then 'usbvision.rc start'
also edit "etc/rc.d/init.d/usbvision" if you use it
Please tell me your experience ([email protected]), or contact ([email protected]).

As described it is a PAL device. There are options for TV included.
I am interested in single frame capture and video stream capture via the camera input connectors(NTSC-stereo audio). My camera is a PIXERA and has video NTSC output.
The following is reference to the USBVISION tar.gz which seems to require ZORAN in the kernel. It used to be called ZORAN/NOGATECH.
It would seem necessary to enable ZORAN in the latest kernel in order to implement the device. Other requirements are likely as well.
Perhaps a pkg could be built but certainly seems a big challenge!
My DVC80 is recognized in USB.
Hopefully, it can be done in arch!
EDIT:The tar.gz reference below:
file:///root/Desktop/usbvision-0.9.8.2.tar.gzI use this one with Windows 7:http://www.chronos.com.tw/Product/E/2/USB%20Movie%20Editor/USB%20Movie%20Editor.htm
It worked bad with out of box Windows 7.
But after all updates it works very well and stable.
A nice thing is that it has little USB extender cable included. So it is less harmful for laptop usb port. -
G drive mini won't mount via firewire 800. usb ok
It hasnt been too long i bought myself a gdrive mini to benefit from the firewire 800 port. It seems that once my macbook gets warm the drive won't mount. It mounts just fine via usb. I've been to the genius bar twice and it worked both times, thats when i noticed it only happens when its warm. I was convinced its a software issue, but i dont know what to think anymore.
Has anyone encounter this issue? Any ideas of whats causing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciatedWAIT WAIT EVERYONE....READ THIS....VERY SIMPLE FIX!
My G mini 750GB drive stopped mounting.....I tried a million methods to get the G mini drive to mount and searched a ton of forums but never found this VERY EASY FIX. Try powering down your computer (imac in my case), then UNPLUG the power supply from the back of the computer....VERY IMPORTANT TO UNPLUG COMPUTER FROM ELECTRIC SOURCE. Nothing else worked for me.
Wait a minute, then plug back in and re-boot....MAGIC - freakin G mini showed up on desk top!
Good Lord why is this simple fix not all over the G mini site?????? It ought to be on the front of the box when you buy this thing! Seems no one at G mini sites talk about this and people are sending drives all over for repair!
Hope this helps!
