160 GB iPod Won't Sync All Songs From iTunes

I have a 160 GB iPod and barring the normal song-skipping issues everyone seems to have, I've had no problems out of it. That is until a couple of days ago. I would attempt to listen to a song and it would skip to the next one during the middle of it. It would run sluggishly, skip nearly every song, and at times, freeze. So I decided to exercise the restore option. After that, when I tried to sync it to my library, it only synced 330 (out of 14,000 plus)songs, all of them artists starting with A. I've tried rebooting and restoring the iPod to no avail. I even did a system restore for my entire computer. Nothing works; it insists on giving me only a fraction of my music library. Any suggestions?

*Hard Drive Diagnostics*
Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
Retracts: 889
Reallocs: 12
Pending Sectors: 0
PowerOn Hours: 2202
Start/Stops: 894
Temp: Current 24c
Temp: Min 10c
Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
*Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
*Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

  • 30 GB Video iPOD won't sync purchased songs from iTUNES.

Previously, on the same computer, I have synced purchased songs from my Itunes library to my iPOD. Now, suddenly, an error message says that I'm not authorized to do so. I use my computer in two countries, the US and Taiwan, and wonder if this has anything to do with the problem. I've already restored the Ipod and reloaded all the songs. The purchased songs still appear in my library but will not sync.

Have you tried Deauthorizing then Authorizing your computer through the Store menu in iTunes?

  • My iPod won't sync some songs from iTunes?

It is't on manually manage music and it used to sync every song but now it won't sync any at all?

Of course it will not sync at all.  You have it set to manually manage music.
You can manually manage ( drag and drop) OR sync, but NOT both.

  • Ipod won't sync with songs on Itunes

I just recently bought a laptop and it has Windows Vista 64 bit (Home Premium). I was able to sync the Ipod (40GB 4th Gen) with the laptop as far as transferring purchases. But I can't get the Ipod to sync as far as taking songs from Itunes and putting it onto the Ipod. I tried manual syncing but that's not working either. Now when I try to go back to having Itunes and Ipod automatically syncing and hit apply it still goes back to manual syncing. Please help.

Thank-you. I figured it out myself. I realized that since it's set to have the ipod manually synced that when I have songs I want to go from Itunes onto the ipod I have to click and drag the song over the top of where it says device ipod on the left hand side.

  • IPod Won't Play Certain Songs From iTunes

I just downloaded some songs from iTunes. I can play them on my computer, but when I try to play them on my iPod it just automatically goes to the next song and will not play it. I have never had this happen before. Any ideas?

Same here. I have an iPod Photo with the latest firmware installed (1.2). I can no longer play any music on my iPod that I've purchased from the iTunes Music Store since upgrading to iTunes 6. Songs purchased prior to upgrading iTunes work fine on my iPod. All songs play fine on my computer.
The two workarounds that I know of are to restore your ipod to factory settings, which I'm not willing to do just yet since it will erase everything on it.
The other workaround is to burn your purchased music to a CD and reimport it. Then move the reimpoted songs to your iPod. That has worked for me so far.
I'm hoping Apple will release some sort of software/firmware upgrade to either iTunes or iPod that resolves this problem.

  • Please help!! my iPod won't download the songs from iTunes!!

When ever i try to update my iPod this message pops up and says
"Attempting to copy to the disk"iPod" failedyou do not have enough access priviledges for this operation.iTunes could not save to your music folder because you do not have write access.Check the permission on your music folder and folders in your music folder, then try copying this file again."
There is this lock at the bottom of the screen by where is says the amount of space used and amount of space avaliable. i think if i can get that to go away it will work again, but i don't know how to get it away.
I've tried many things. if you can help it would be appreciated!!

That padlock icon simply means that you have the iPod set to automatically transfer music from iTunes. To remove it, you need to set your iPod to manual transfer.

  • IPod won't sync all music to iTunes

I recently got a new Macbook Pro and needed to transfer over all of my music on iTunes from my old laptop. My iPod Touch has enough space to hold my entire iTunes library, so I synced it with the iTunes library on my old laptop, got everything onto it, and then synced it with my new Macbook Pro.
However, the iTunes on my Mac refuses to sync any music from my iPod that was not purchased from the iTunes store at some point. 75% of my music is from CDs and so 75% of my music will not transfer from my iPod to my iTunes.
I can't adjust anything on the tab on iTunes for syncing all music/entire library because I get a message saying if I do this all of the content on my iPod will be erased and replaced with what is currently in iTunes, which is barely anything.
All I've ever done is fought with iTunes every single time I try to do anything significant with it and I'm sick of it. I don't understand why iTunes won't simply take all the music from my iPod and put it into the library. That's all I want.
Please, can anyone help me with this?

OK after a long night I think I have answered my own question. I hope this helps others who may have experienced the same level of frustration I have.
If your music won't download from iTunes to your iPod because it is not 'authorised' see if this helps.
Go to the album or song that is not 'authorising'. Select it and push play. It should ask you for authorisation or a username and password. Put in your username and password, it should then go to iTunes store and it will now be authorised.
Be careful not to make the same mistake that I made and have multiple iTunes Store accounts. Mainly because I think it creates these problems on transfer of your library and secondly because you may not remember the password. If you forget the password, then simply get iTunes store to resend it. The only problem may be if your email account no longer exists. Mine does, so not sure what happens if it doesn't.
This in itself may not fix the problem either. I noticed on the left hand side of the music library, met to the song names etc, the '!" symbol in the column. This will also prevent it copying to your iPod. I am not technical, but it seems it lost the file path in transfer. Just double click the song and it will ask you if you want to find the path. Click yes and then search through iTunes library until you find the song. Double click the song and bingo you should now be able to transfer the music.
It took less time for me to finish by Business Degree, but its the only way I found to get around all the authorisation problems
    Hope this helps

  • New iPod Touch, won't sync purchased songs from iTunes library on new "authorized" laptop.

I must have missed a step.  My old windows laptop died.  Tried syncing iTunes library from old laptop to new iPod touch.  Didn't work.  Downloaded iTunes to new windows laptop.  Logged into iTunes from new laptop and Authorized new windows laptop.  Uploaded a few CDs into new laptop's iTunes library.  Old purchased songs appeared on new laptop, however only uploaded songs from CDs will sync to new iPod touch.

  • My Ipod won't play bought songs from Itunes

I have a new ipod nano, and it plays songs that I upoad to iTunes from CD, but not ones I buy from the itunes store, they come up and my ipod skips right over them. the only difference I can find between bought songs and songs I upload from CD's is the extension on the bought songs is 'm4p' and the ones from CD's is 'm4a'.
the songs play on itunes, but not my nano, which is confusing cuz I thought iTunes was made for ipods?

See this: iPod does not play content purchased from the iTMS.
If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this test:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

  • Ipod does not transfer all songs from itunes

I have the 80g ipod classic. I have 16,000 songs on itunes. when i go to setting on ipod and go to about it shows that i am missing 13 songs. for a while i was missing 5 songs then 9 songs and now 13.yes i still have room on my ipod for music. I do not have a clue what songs are not being transferred to my ipod. what is causing this and what is the solution.

yea i guess that could be possable. i guess with 16,000 songs and only 13 did not transfer to ipod i should be happy but this is mac not windows so i would like to think the soft ware would work without flaws.. as for all my dupes i put over 1500 cds in my itunes library. a lot of the cds were various artists etc. that is y i have so many dupes. my imac has a 500g hard drive so i have plenty of space left on my hard drive. i have 2 external hard drives where my music is backed up.i have a 1terrabit lacie that i just use for time machine and a 500g lacie to back up my music and other stuff. iwould never trust my music to be backed up on only 1 external hard drive. if it died my music would be gone forever. thats y i use 2 external hard drives

  • 20GB ipod won't download all music from itunes

I downloaded itunes 6.0.5 and now when i update my 4 yo 20GB ipod it says: Some of the items of the iTunes music library were not copied to the iPod because your iPod software is too old. And then it tells me to go to apple.com to update - Then, it does not update any purchased music.
    Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Have you run the iPod Updater? You will need a minimum of OS X 10.2.8 to do so.

  • Ipod won't sync certain songs after update to 5.1.1

I updated my ipod touch to version 5.1.1.  This included the addition of icloud to my system.  Since I have updated it, my ipod won't add certain songs from my itunes.  It's really weird how it just randomly selected songs to download.  I have songs in itunes that I purchased, as well as songs I imported from CD's.  Every song shows up on my ipod song list, however most are "gray" and won't allow me to select them to play.  (like they are not downloaded or something).  I have retored my ipod three times to see if that will allow all the songs to play on my ipod and it won't work.  Everytime I try to sync my ipod the fist song that tries to sync says "The file wasn't synced to the ipod because it cannot be read or written"......I have tried removing multiple songs and still get this message for every song. I did figure out that you can open the itunes store through the ipod and select "purchased".  You can then view songs that "aren't on the ipod" and manually download each individual song to the ipod, however, not only is this a pain in the *** and going to take forever since I have 1000+ songs and tv shows, but this still won't get all my own music added from CD's to my ipod. HELP! Any tips or solutions!! ( Also, I am a Mac user if that makes a difference)

After over TWO HOURS on the phone with apple support I still had no solution.  There were several songs that would freeze up my itunes, then I got the message "blah blah song" couldn't be transfered to the ipod because the file was unable to be read or written.  The tech and I came up with the solution to just delete every song that came up on. In the end, I had to individually add EVERY SINGLE SONG to my ipod one at a time.  If an error popped up I just deleted that song and made a note of it.  I had no issues with the songs I imported from CD's, only the songs purchased off itunes.  The tech never could figure out why.  We rebooted, wiped clean, reset, anything...you name it we tried.  We even moved everything to another computer to see if it was a computer issue, then we wiped my husband's ipod touch to see if it was a hardware issue on my ipod. NOTHING. This finally worked even though it took all day.  Everything seems okay now, we will see the next time I add songs.  I did lose ALL my photos and videos taken with the ipod. :/ That really ***** because I have a 1 year old who's entire first year was on that stupid thing.  What a waste of a day.
