1604 error with 2.0.2 update

Hi,
Yesterday I tried to upgrade my iPhone 3G to firmware 2.0.2, after a while it gave an 1604 error.
Now my iPhone only can get in recovery mode. When i try to upgrade, it stucks in "Preparing iPhone for restore", the iPhone only shows the Apple logo. After a while iTunes gives the error: the iPhone could not be restored. An unknowned error occurred (1604).
After a few minutes after the error if I let my iPhone on the loading symbol comes.
Help?

My white 16gb phone died after the last upgrade. It had worked from day one and then went to place a call and screen was totally black. Plugged it into my computer and tried to restore, nothing. Played the Apple tech support game for 2 hours. Bottom line if you receive the error code 1604 and after re-installing iTunes and it does not fix the problem, your phone is history. Apple sent out the mail return box via Fed-Ex and my new one is on the way.

  • 1602 and 1604 Errors When Attempting to Restore/Update iPhone - Please Help

Hi, I've been having trouble with my iPhone 3GS and after wasting many days on trying to solve the problem, I am reaching out for help from those more knowledgeable than me. I have been having this problem for as long as I can remember (I've owned my iPhone for just under a year): whenever I attempt to Restore my iPhone or update its OS, I receive a 1602 or 1604 error on iTunes and the process stops with the iPhone wiped. iTunes refuses to continue the Restore and any further attempts result in the same error. I originally found this work around for the problem after an exhaustive search (4th post down):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1363589
However, every time I wish to Restore or update, I have to follow these long, annoying, unusual steps, and, now that I am coming to the end of my year's warranty, I really want to fix this problem, or get it fixed by Apple if this is not possible.
The iPhone restores with no problem on another computer in my house, so I guess the problem is with my computer. I have taken the following steps (often many times over and in combination with each other) in my attempts to fix the problem, but with no success:
    1. Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
    2. Uninstalled and reinstalled iPhone drivers
    3. Uninstalled and reinstalled all Apple software and drivers
    4. Removed iTunes library, all music and any other iTunes files in music folder
    5. Created a new user account, which is free from any old iTunes settings, opened iTunes and plugged in iPhone
    6. Used different USB ports
    7. Plugged in iPhone after being restored on other computer
I'm running out of ideas. Can anyone please help?
    Thanks,
    James

I had all of these problems, and I was able to fix them with the following process. Here is what I did:
    My setup:
Apple Max OS 10.4.10, Mac G4, with 3rd party USB 2.0 card.
    1. Upgrade to iTunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4, Restart and repair permissions
    2. Purchase the iPod Touch Upgrade - It took two tries to purchase. I had to accept to two agreements, and then got an error. I purchased the upgrade again and got an instruction screen. iTunes appeared to download a very small file.
    3. Sync my touch (I still had not upgraded to firmware 1.1.3)
    4. The touch synced, but I had no new functions.
    5. I clicked upgrade, and downloaded the 165GB file.
    6. While the file was downloading I undocked my iPod touch and restarted it.
    7. When the download was complete, it gave me an unknown error because my iPod was not connected.
    8. I connected My iPod and tried to install the update. After several tries, I always got a 1602 error.
    9. I restarted my computer and did a hard restart of my ipod touch. This did not work, I still had 1602 errors.
    10. At this point, I chose to RESTORE my iPod Touch.
    11. After the restore, I chose not to restore any content, and just tested the firmware update. EVERYTHING worked great!
    12. I synced my iPod touch while I watched the keynote. 45 minutes later my sync was complete and 14 Gig of content was restored. The new functions are great. I have already read my .Mac email.

  • Error With 8.1 Windows Update

HelloI have recently updated the system with the windows automatic updates as well the 8.1OS, since then the system shuts down instantly or never starts even with a heavy force applied to the power button, sometimes it starts automatically and goes off in a while. It works fine, if switched back to the original factory condition. I have tried with online analysis and maintenance part and had reinstalled the drivers, but yet again the problem persists.  Thanks in advance. Bijoy

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I have checked all of the updates and connections for my new printer.  As far as I can tell, I've checked everything that needs to be checked and all is good.  But, I still get the Mail Delivery error when e-printing.  And my friend has the same problem with her new 5510 b111a.  What could possibly be the problem?  Regular printing, scanning and so on work fine with my wireless connection.

So it sounds like it may be an Issue with the provided Email Address from your internet service provider, you are sending from ,
What i would suggest as a test is to create a Email account either with g mail and or yahoo, and try to send the email to your eprint account/Email, and see if it accepts the email also, make sure you have your printer set to Accept email from all users you can do this by logging into Eprint Center and then going into these settings and selecting that option

This looks like a problem that has been documented by Microsoft here. Did you try to download and install it manually or using Update Service? Cal you tell us the language and operating system that you are using?
If you tried using update service and got this message, you can try downloading and install the update manually instead. The link for the download is here if you are a professional user or from here if you are an educational user.

  • IPod Error with 1.2.1 Update

Has anyone had any problems ejecting their iPods with the new 1.2.1 update? When I try to eject my iPod it tells me that some other program is using it and that it cannot eject it. It's a pain in the behind. Pleas, APPLE, help me out with this issue. I tried to restore the iPod to the factory settings but that was of no use.

    Oh great!!
I just upgrade & am now re loading all my files (boring).
While I wait, how about you try going to your "my computer" icon.
Then right click on the ipod (should show up like a pen drive or similar) and you should have an eject or disconnect option in the drop down menu.
Give that a whirl & see what happens.
Just an idea, as that is what i will try if I can't eject.
    Cheers.

Can anyone tell me what's this? Is this a virus?
    Thanks

That is not a virus. That's a font problem, most likely a corrupt font cache. Try restarting in safe mode, then restart normally. (This will clear some of the font caches, among other things.)
If that doesn't fix it, try some of the other fixes mentioned here:

  • I downloaded a recommended update and since then my ipod touch (3rd gen) is frozen and wont turn on (1604 error)

I downloaded a recommended update and since then my ipod touch (3rd gen) is frozen and will not turn on. I try restoring factory settings but the process terminates with a 1604 error. I have researched this problem on the net and think i have tried everything, but still no joy. I have tried removing all apple and itunes software and reinstalling, updating the apple drivers - nothing has worked. I am using itunes 10.3 on my pc, windows xp.
If anyone can help me i would be extremely grateful - I am off on holiday on thursday and would love to have my ipod with me!
    Many thanks in advance.
    Craig.

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • 3.1.2 bricked my first ipod touch with 1604 error

*This is my first Apple product* after using Microsoft/PCs all my life and after owning this brand new Ipod Touch for *one week*, it has been bricked by the 3.1.2 upgrade. I'm getting repeated 1604 errors.
Yes, one week and I cannot use my Ipod. I even spent the extra $ for the 8GB 3Gen version to get the latest OS and this is what I paid for?
I've tried every solution found across the internet like reinstalling Itunes, deleting multiple user info, checking USB drivers, etc, etc
Angry cannot describe how I feel right now.
The nearest Apple store is 4 hours away and I'm not driving there to fix this. If they cannot get this fixed tomorrow via phone I'm returning it and never looking back.

    I have a question
Why, whenever people get angry, do the crazed mac fans always assume the individual who specifically bought an apple product due to its advertised functionality, believe that person is an idiot? They immediately don't read the rest of the post because they feel personally attacked that anybody could be having a problem with an apple product. What did he say roaming? Didn't he say he's tried every known solution to the problem?
YES we are windows users and that MEANS we have become adept to troubleshooting issues and fixing them, permanently. I said this earlier, it looks like apple is finally having some difficulties with software incompatibilities and that needs to be recognized, not IGNORED.
I love ipods of all types and find they are the most versatile music and entertainment devices available. However, as they become more complicated more problems will arise, problems that have not ever been dealt with by apple users. The company needs to evolve to reflect this fact.
NOW! to help you with your problem... Im not sure about the NEWEST ipods, whether this will work or not, but because you said you actually updated it recently this may be possible. I dont know if it will work because the reasons behind these issues seem to be shadowed, but, if you can follow this process to Downgrade (restore) back to the 3.0 software you should have a functioning product. If it works WAIT to update until this is all taken care of.
-Download Firmware 3.0 (for your device)
-Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates (files are hidden, so you need to view hidden files)
-Back up files in the directory
    -Delete all files
-Paste your 3.0 firmware into the software updates folder
-Rename it to the exact name of the 3.1.1 firmware (iPod1,13.1.1_7C145Restore.ipsw)
    -Put ipod in DFU mode
DFU MODE- press the power and home buttons for 5 seconds, (ipod powers off) release power button but hold home button for 20-30 seconds, until your computer beeps.
    * In itunes, it will detect an ipod in recovery mode.
-Shift click restore and use your renamed firmware and update.
For a 2nd gen, its the same routine, just make sure you have the correct image file for your unit.
I dont know if this is ACTUALLY possible with your touch's generation but try it... You may have to torrent the 3.0.1 .ipsw file

  • 1602 and 1604 errors when updating to 1.1.3 firmware

So like many people today, I tried to update my Touch's firmware to 1.1.3. Using iTunes 7.6, I downloaded the file, but then when it goes to update, it gets stuck on the "Preparing iPod for update" step and then comes back telling me that the iPod could not be updated, giving either a 1602 or 1604 error. I can restore back to the 1.1.2 firmware with no problems, but after multiple attempts, multiple reboots, multiple reinstalls of iTunes, and multiple forced restores, I still can't update the firmware to 1.1.3, getting the same error each time. A quick Google search reveals that I'm not the only one having this problem, so I hope a fix is worked out quickly. I guess I shouldn't be in much of a hurry, seeing as there appear to be a slew of other problems with the new application pack anyway.

I had all of these problems, and I was able to fix them with the following process. Here is what I did:

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
