160g Ipod Classic Crashing Computer

Im having issues fixing my 160gig Ipod Classic. Every time I connect it to my computer it will run fine, however I-tunes will not load when I try to load it.
If I start Itunes, and then connect it, Itunes will freeze once it recognizes my Ipod.
Ive already reinstalled Itunes mulitple times, and reset my Ipod on another computer. Ive even resorted to using another program to synchronize my Ipod and it will start to synch, however my computer crashes (blue screen) before a song will fully synch.
Any ideas on whats causing my problem?

For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes and click “Restore”

My 160g iPod classic was originally formatted to PC and I have now moved across to Mac. What problems will I encounter syncing my iPod with my iTunes on my Mac?

If it's formatted for usage with PCs, syncing it from a Mac may be slow, it can't store files which are 4GB or larger, and its firmware can't be updated from a Mac without restoring it.

  • How do you download music from  Ipod Classic to computer?

How do you download music from ipod classic to computer

If your music collection was purchased from iTunes, you are in a good shape since that music is forever yours under your iTunes account. Therefore, after installing iTunes on your new computer, sign into your account and see all your music under "Purchsed". Then simply download it to be phisically present onto your computer (for free since you've already paid for it).
On the other hand if you happens to not be a sucker to waist money on iTunes and your collection was ripped from the internet (via torrents and such), you need some third party software to copy iPod music, here is a guide about how to transfer music from iPod classic to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

There seem to be compatibilty isuue with KDC receiver and Ipod Classic firmware 1.1.2.

  • 80gb classic crashes computer, get blue screen.

    80gb classic
    Windows Vista
Ipod crashes computer when itunes is running, get blue screen.
A while back my ipod started having trouble playing songs. I would tell it to play a playlist of say 50 songs, it would then freeze for about 30 minutes, and when it would finally start playing, it would be 30 songs into the playlist. I also couldn't get itunes to read it.
So I used itunes restore feature, and then after that, every time it tries to synch to itunes, it would crash the computer, and I would get the blue screen saying that my computer was dumping physical memory. Well nothing gets dumped from my computer when it does it, and the ipod stays the same.
I even tried formatting it manually, having windows fix it, having itunes restore it again, but always the same thing... once it was restored.. BAM computer crashes.
I can have it plugged in no problems, I can run itunes no problem, but when the two are done at the same time, it would crash my computer.
So I looked for other reasons. I needed major updates for vista, so I downloaded all of them, which took a while. And I even uninstalled itunes and re-downloaded and installed. Now what happens is Itunes freezes when it's plugged in, but I can still use all my other windows, just itunes is inoperable while the ipod is plugged in. As soon as it is unplugged, itunes starts working fine again.
I'm not that great with this sort of tech thing, so any suggestions would really be appreciated.

    many thanks, i!
atapi.sys is a Windows OS file ... it's your Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller. So it's plausible that it's either got damaged, or we're looking at a driver issue that is manifesting as trouble with atapi.sys. So we'll proceed on those two fronts to begin with.
Just in case the file is damaged, I think we should try an sfc /scannow. It's not user-friendly on an XP system, but the following document may be of some help (fingers crossed):
    http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
If no joy with the scannow, we'll try making sure your drivers and so forth are up to date. If you've got a name brand PC, head to the manufacturer's website and look for the downloads page for your model. Look for newer versions of firmware for your hard drive, BIOS updates and chipset driver updates (in particular), but now might be a good time to check on things like video drivers, RAID controllers and so forth.
If you've got third-party componentry installed in the PC (like for example, a USB card, or an external drive, or a new internal hard drive), or if you have a home/custom-built PC, head to the websites of the manufacturer's components (in particular the motherboard manufacturer), and check for newer drivers, firmware and BIOS versions there. The following document may be of some assistance with that:
Updating the drivers on your Windows PC
Any joy with any of those measures?

  • Ipod Classic restarts computer. Help!

I have an 80gb Classic bought last August which has been working fine until today! I plugged it in the USB, the screen goes blank and it restarts the computer in a continuous loop. I tried it in 3 different USB ports and it does exactly the same thing in each.
I turned off the auto restart and I get the following error message when I switch it on:
    *Stop: 0x000000FC (0xBA5078E8, 0x0AZF6963, 0xBA507848, 0x00000001)
I'm not a computer expert by any means and have no idea what to do next to try and solve this.
My ipod has itunes 8:2 on it. I've tried to update the drivers on each USB but the computer says that there is no update for them and that they are already up to date.

    Hi chaps,
you may add myself to your problem report list too.
After having installed iTunes 8 thru the update process called up from Vers 7 my iPod classic 80G is crashing the Vista computer. Blue screen indicates "usbappl....sys" to be the issue and after Vista recovery the problem report includes the info

    OS Version: 606001
    Service Pack 1_0
The crash happens regardless of whether iTunes is running or shut down. The ipod classic 80G works on another machine under XP and using iTunes 7.xxx
I hope that Apple can very soon offer an update to iTunes.

  • Plugging in Ipod classic restarts computer + blue screen!

So I haven't had a problem with my 80gb ipod classic until last night. Last night I updated my itunes and then plugged my ipod in to sync it. Within a second a blue screen had appeared on my computer and my computer restarted. I tried again today and it did the exact same thing. I even tried it with itunes not open (so it's gotta be something with the ipod right!?) I tried a different USB, and no luck. Please help

  • 160g iPod classic is made of fail.

Ever since I got my 160 gig iPod classic I've had problems. A few months ago it wiped 13 gig worth of music and I've not been able to restore the music since as it wipes itself, crashes or messes up in some way every few weeks. I've had to restore the iPod about 30 times since it first messed up. iTunes is constantly crashing half way through syncing...it's a joke. Almost £300 including insurence and the **** thing is near unusable.
I've tried using programs like Winamp rather then iTunes, but the iPod is crashing as well, or saying that there is a corrupt file.
To top it off, i spent about £50 in the itunes store, but can only put those songs on my ipod using the computer they were bought on, which is completely ridiculous, we have 4 computers in our house, and i'm getting a new laptop this year, i fail to see the point in having music i can't access even though I bought it. iTunes has been removed from nearly all of the computers because it was causing so many problems, i not putting it back onto that computer (as it isn't mine) just for a few songs that will end up being erased from the **** ipod anyway.
is there anything i can do to sort out the problems and have the songs stay on my ipod?

If you've restored the iPod and the issue is unresolved, it sounds as though your iPod may require hardware service (replacement).
Use this site to set up mail-in service for your iPod:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
You can also contact AppleCare for service setup:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Or, if you have an Apple store near you, make an appointment with their Genius Bar and have your iPod replaced in the store:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist/
Regarding your purchases, iTunes downloads the song onto your computer's hard drive when you purchase from the store. You can copy these files on up to 5 authorized computers.
    Using the iPod: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Or you can use a flash drive, hard drive, CD or DVD, email attachment...

  • 160 GB iPod classic crashed when trying to view a video, and now just keeps rebooting. What can I do?

This is the third iPod classic this has happened to, so it's not a fluke.
I upoaded a video podcast from iTunes. The video name, etc. displayed properly in the iPod, but when I tried to open it, the iPod crashed and now just continuously reboots. My iMac does not recognize the iPod anymore.
    Any suggestions?

    Have you tried this?
    - iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    - iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows

  • Frustrating! iPod Classic restarts computer!!

I have gone through numerous help guides from Apple and have searched through at least 40 pages on the message boards and have yet to find any advice that might actually help me. I recently got a new 160GB iPod Classic and when I connected it to my computer through the USB port it was not recognized by iTunes but a little bubble popped up in Windows saying that a USB Mass Storage Device had been detected and as soon as that disappeared, the computer went to a blue screen and then restarted. The blue screen did have a message on it but it flashed so quickly that it was impossible to read. I tried nearly everything I could think of to make the problem stop. I deleted a lot of old programs from my computer, I reinstalled iTunes, and have tried other things which were suggested in the help articles. However nothing I did fixed the problem.
I took the iPod back to the Circuit City where I had purchased it and the guy there tested it by plugging it into his computer...he had the same problem. Thinking that it was an issue with the iPod, we got a new one. Unfortunately the same problem occurs with the new iPod. I also bought my father a 4GB iPod Nano over a month ago but haven't had the time to get his hooked up, and oddly enough it restarts the computer as well.
For some reason my ancient 20GB iPod still connects to iTunes, but only through Firewire. I've tried using Firewire with the Nano and the new Classic, but iTunes won't recognize the iPods through that either, but at least it make the computer restart.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Terrible Ipod Classic Crash

I got my Ipod Classic last year on my birthday on the 29th of July last year, and it has never worked. It crashes when I try to connect it to my cpu, and it crashes my cpu itself. I can't open Itunes, altough songs keep on playing, and I can't open my computer file and such. So I'm guessing it just crashes everything that influences the Ipod Classic.
I've done EVERYTHING possible that I can do by myself, so please, don't give me any suggestions. I've followed all the system restores and I've called with Ipod support service. They directed me to an Apple store who also didn't know what to do with it so they told me to send it to Apple for repairations throughout the Apple support site.
    But here's my problem:
When describing my problem, there isn't a catagory that covers my problem! What should I do?
(It took so long for my to do something about it because of personal issues, and I've got quite a fear for calling.)
    PS:
I'm Dutch and perhaps regulations are different here.

And yet you have posted here looking for help, presumably.

I thought that there is no phone support in Europe.
    But here's my problem:

Well, in spite of the fact that you have made it clear that you do not want any suggestions, I'm going to make one.
Do not try connecting your ipod to your computer, but try opening iTunes, what happens? Does iTunes open and if it doesn't do you see any message? If you do, what does it say? If you cannot open iTunes, have you tried re-installing it?
Which version of iTunes do you have? At the time of writing, iTunes 10.1.1.4 is the latest version, or 10.1.1 for 64bit machines.
Does your computer meet the minimum requirements to run iTunes? If you are using a 64bit machine, have you downloaded the correct version? See http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... and of course, the suggestion is that you answer the questions, because frankly, as your post stands, it will be impossible to fix your problem or provide you with any useful guidance.
You might also consider telling us about the iPod. When you turn the iPod on, what happens? Do you see the *Main Menu* or a message telling the iPod has no content? If not, what do you see?
Notice that I have suggested that you keep the iPod and iTunes apart. That way, perhaps we can figure out which of the two is causing a problem. Once we know that, maybe we can fix it.

I just had the same thing happen to me. When I plug my ipod into the computer it crashes and the blue error screen comes up. Until yesterday I didn't have this problem.
I called Ipod support and they told me that they are having issues with the new itunes software. There seems to be conflicting drivers with some printers. They told me to unplug my printer and reboot the computer, this resolved the issue. It looks like you will have to disconnect your printer every time you want to connect your ipod- until they fix the bugs. You can also download new drivers for your printer if there are any.

  • Why has the ipod classic crashed?

I have a silver ipod classic. When i plugged it into my computer, to charge,it crashed displaying, "ok to disconnect" I tried to reset it and hold and unhold it however none of these methods worked. I've been on the Apple support site and followed the instructions but the Ipod still displays the same thing. I would be very appreciative if you couls help me.

The iPod displaying "OK to Disconnect" suggests that it is in Disk Mode, which is a supported function of the iPod, not necessarily a "crash."
I want to make sure the iPod reset has been attempted, per this explanation:
Ensure the HOLD switch is OFF so that there is NO orange color showing beneath the switch. Then, press and hold the MENU and the SELECT (center) buttons together for about 10 seconds, until you see an Apple logo. When you see the Apple, let go of the buttons and the iPod will restart itself.
A reset is all that should be required to get the iPod out of disk mode. If you are unsuccessful, you may want to attempt to restore the iPod in iTunes:
