160GB ipod. 8.9GB of "Other" What is it ?

And can I get rid of it to put Music on there ?

Hi everybody,
I'm bumping in this message, as far as my problem is similar. Everything started 4-5 days ago, when I plugged my 160 Gb on PC to synch. It said that the he couldn't because it was not his library( or something like that, sorry) but it was, as far as it's the only computer we connected it on. Anyway, I decided to follow what Itunes asked, to erase everything (138 go of music)and resynch.
But since, the synch never go up to the end, not enough room. I'm trying to transfer 140 go of music, no video or else. In the resume part, we read :
140 go of music
16 go of other
missing 8 go to synch.
I tried restore 6-7 times, Other go back to 0 but raise again up to 15% of the data transferred while synching.
I read so many threads, I tried as suggested per turingtest2 to check Smartdata but everything seemed fine (when I did it, there was 60 go on the Ipod)
I tried another of his suggestion : to make a new Smart Playlist, with 10 Go, at first and then raise it to 30 GO and so on. The first 10 Go created an Other section of 0,7 go. Then when I raised that smart playlist to 30 to see, there was 3 go in Other and only 13 go that has been really transferred to the IPod, and Itunes is stuck on Verifying the Ipod. A popup window opened saying that there is a new version of Itunes.. I was up to date though..
Did an update got out last night?
Do you know what I can do??
Is there a way to know what song or album blocks the synchro?

Content acquired with an Apple ID is permanently tied to that ID.
There is no reason to create a new Apple ID, frankly that will just create more issues.
It is possible to load content from multiple Apple ID's onto a single device. If the content is in the computer that the device syncs with, simply select the content and sync it.

What version of iTunes should I use for my 160gb iPod classic with a 2.0.1 software?

I have a 160gb iPod classic with a 2.0.1 software. I just had my laptop fixed and I downloaded the new iTunes but I can't sync my iPod. The first reason why I'm suggesting this is because of the first question ask in this post;

I'm not suggesting to buy Leopard here. I'm only saying that 10.4.2 is out-dated by 9 version which are free upgrade and that at version 11, 10.4 should be quite mature now for all computer.
For me, based on this, I do not see any reason why someone should not be running previous version than 10.4.11. If there is sleeping bugs running 10.4.3 and not 10.4.2, I'm suggesting to adress this issue instead because _there must be a solution to this_.
In order to solve the issue, I'm just suggesting to post it on Tiger forum.

Is your iTunes running the latest version? If not, but the iPod you've bought has been set up to work with the latest version, then iTunes probably will not recognise it.
In iTunes, select Help/Check for updates. If there is a newer version, make sure you are running that before connecting the iPod again.
If that isn't the problem - or more to the point - it doesn't fix the problem, post here again so that anyone watching it can suggest the next step.

I have a new computer, and I downloaded a new iTunes for my iPod, but it only transferred my Purchased Songs to my Library, not the other mp3s. Now when I go to add more mp3s and sync, it will add it to my Library, but not my iPod itself... What happened?

You can only synce an iPod to one iTunes Library/one computer. However, you can manage music among different computer . see:

If you want to transfer non-iTunes purchased music from an iPod to a computer other than the one you synced the music from you need to use a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

Most likely there is corrupt data on your iPad.
Restore and see if that helps.
Next try to restore as new.
If neither of those help take it to Apple.

How can I make my brand new 160GB iPod Classic work?

I bought a 160GB Ipod Classic in January and have just tried to use it for the first time and it has been a disaster! I have spent hours trying to use it and failed. I have been using iTunes for some time now and have recently successfully set up Squeezebox to use the iTunes music I have uploaded from my CDs.
All started well - my system recognised the new hardware and iTunes started. I registered and said I wanted to synch my music and my photos and away it went. After 2-3GB of uploads I got an error saying
"The Owner's iPod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." On pressing 'OK' it then said I'd got an unknown error. Pressing 'OK' again took me back to the first error message. I then tried everything I coould including relaoding iTunes and eventually got it started again. This time it got up to about 8GB (of about 10.5GB) before abending in the same way. Since then I have failed to take another step forward in many hours.
When I connect the iPod to my PC sometimes it appears briefly in 'My Compter' then disappears. Then the errors loop thus:-
START:The iPod itself says "Connected" the a few seconds later it says "Ejecting"
The device manager has a USB Mass Storage Device with an exclamation mark on a yellow background which then says
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for'safe removal' but it has not been removed from the computer (code 47). To fix this problem, unplug the device from your computer and then plug it in again"
Doing this the causes the process to sytart again from START above.
On one occasion only, after a few hours trying, I got a message "Your iPod need to be reformatted to work with Windows" and it opened up iTunes and then sat and did nothing.
Running the diagnostics in iTunes says "No iPod found". The diagnostic information is set out below:

Have solved my own problem. My PC sits on the floor so I have a four-port USB hub on my desktop with one port in use. I use one of the other three ports for USB-related task. As I was shutting down for the night I had a - what turned out to be inspired - thought about whether there was an adequate power supply from the hub. I then tried the iPod USB connection directly into the front of my machine and everything worked. It seems that an inadequate power supply was the cause of this strange set of conditions.

So how long does it take to load a 160GB iPod using the Convert Higher ...

I have a 160GB Gen 5 that I bought when first released back in the day when they were $400. Through a number of changes, the most recent being the advent of the Convert Higher Bitrate Songs to 128bit AAC feature, I decided to look at what more music I could store. After all was said and done, I ended up with a bit of a disaster with cover art not being properly applied to the music being played. I decided to *restore the ipod* based on suggestions in the discussion boards, and equally important was following the hints and tips here.

The advice is especially important in very large library situations to ensure you have uniqueness in the albums you want to display. Hadn't really given it much thought until I had the ability to see the individual albums for the 40K songs on the iPod via the cover art view.
Finally the point of the post...
*So how long does it take to load a 160GB iPod using the Convert Higher Bitrate option now available in iTunes 9.1?* The specs on my computer are not highend by any stretch, but it's no slouch, and neither of the CPUs are ever pegged. At this point I've lost count of how much time it's taken, but the load is going on 3-4 days. With some breaks in between because I need to check each incremental load to verify there is no cover art corruption, correct bad tags and such, but for the most part the loading is visibly slow, and I'm sure the conversion is the cause. I'm not really complaining at this point, but there is clearly room for improvement. And of course unless there is a redo involved in which case I will get quite cranky.
*I would like to hear the experiences of others.*
Finally to lend a bit more credence to the performance concern, my 32GB iPhone 3GS for only about say 28GB of music takes about 24 hrs to load from a 2.2GHz dual core intel laptop, again using the convert higher bitrate option.

With AC power adapter it takes 3-4 hours for a full charge. With the USB charger it takes 9-0 hours for a full charge. I am not happy with them removing the AC charger and other accessoreis at all. It's business but it still stinks.
I know I would rethink my purchase but would most likely end up buying the Micro anyway
