160gb iPod Classic will pause for 3-5 seconds during playback

Hello. I heard from a few people that they are having similar issues to this. Whenever I listen to my ipod for more than 20-25 mins, it will stop playing during a song for about 3-5 seconds, then it will resume playback. I've tried power cycling it, restoring it, the whole 9 yards, but nothing works.
I am considering bringing it back to the apple store now. I remember back in the good old days before the iphone came out and there were barely any people buying apple products that their customer service was spectacular. Now I heard they are pretty anal about replacements. I know that they like to see the error occurring before they can do anything about it as far as a replacement goes.
Does anyone have similar issues with their ipods? Anyone get a replacement from Apple? I will greatly appreciate the help guys. Thanks again.

I have a similar issue; mine only happens every so often, but has occurred even when i'm not touching the ipod.
Mine, however, will stop playing for 3-5 seconds just like yours, but if I touch the iPod, it will resume playback. This makes me think that it's connection error, but the thing doesn't pause - the play icon at the upper-RH corner of the screen is still there.
I thought it might be software related until I touched it and it resumed playback. I also ran the battery down/restored it, but it did it once again.
I bought the AppleCare plan for it, so I'll just have to take it down to the local Apple store and see if they can do anything about it.
Does anybody think this could be anything other than a hardware issue?

  • New 160Gb ipod classic will not be see in in Itunes V11.3.1(2)

I bought a new 160Gb Ipod classic. I bought it because my previous 2, older ipod classics, stopped syncing. One day they worked the next they didnt. I swear this happened after an Itunes update too. Anyway, I took one to Tekserve (local Apple service provider) and they told me one of the pins in the ipod i brought to them was damaged so the connection couldnt be made. I didnt really buy the answer, but since the ipod was older i figured, ok, I'll get a new one. Well I just got a new one. opened up the box, took out a new USB cord, plugged it into my computer and boom, NOTHING. The computer recognizes it in the Finder (MAC OS 10.6.8). Then again the MAC recognized my other 'broken' ipods too, Itunes just doesnt.
So I had hunch before this this problem has to be a software bug. Now its confirmed. There is no way a brand new ipod should not be seen in Itunes. Trust me i tried all the normal 'Ipod doesnt sync support stuff' and it doesnt  solve the problem. This is an advanced problem and one that i need  real answer on. Does an ipod classic work with Itunes  V11.3.1(2) running on a MAC 10.6.8 OS? Ipod classics still cost $250 which is ridiculous since the technology is 5 years old, so if Apple stopped supporting them on the new Itunes without making that know I think there should be some serious press about this!
    Please help.

Well I finally figured out the problem, not thanks to anyone from Apple for that matter. You would asume this problem has happened before and is still happening. The problem was I couldn't copy certain songs anymore from iTunes to my iPod Classic. When trying to copy certain songs I got an error.
If you have this problem it means your song file is corrupted. You can simply check this by trying to copy it from your hard drive to an external hard drive. Here you will also get an error message.
This means you need to replace all the corrupted files by a back up on your hard drive or download it again. I did this and now everything works fine.
Hope this will solve a lot of problems.

  • Why does my ipod classic (80gb) connect for a few seconds then disconnect?

I have a ipod classic 80gb, granted its old, but it has a big memory so I can store my whole collection. Anyway, when I connect it to my PC (with windows 8.1) it will connect for a few seconds then disconnect. It will sometimes start to sync, but then disconnect after a few seconds. My computer is pretty new, Acer Aspire V5. I have tried reinstalling itunes, a new cable to connect it, different usb ports(2) and with and without the pc plugged into the mains, which is when it starts to sync for a brief second. Has anyone else had the same problem??

The S.I. prefix Giga is used to mean both 1000x1000x1000 and 1024x1024x1024. Computer software typically uses the second version, but using the first number makes the same number of bytes appear bigger when expressed as Gb, so is favoured by hard drive manufactures.
    80Gb10 = 74.3Gb2
It's a bit like specifying a quantity in gallons without saying whether they are US or Imperial gallons - everybody gets the same volume but one number will be bigger than the other. I could offer you a tank with 10 Imperial gallons of fuel in it - but if I tell you it's 12 US gallons it sounds like you're getting more for your money.
Once the total size of your library exceeds the capacity of your device all you need to do is create some size limited playlists to determine what goes on the device. Don't sync all movies, sync one or two that you plan to watch soon. Likewise with TV Shows. Limit podcasts to unplayed episodes and finally create a music subset. What worked for me for some time was a smart playlist called Steve's Tunes defined as Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Exclude where Exclude was regular playlist that I would manually add to until Steve's Tunes was small enough to fit. These days I run an iPhone and have a number of smart playlists with ? Gb of most played, ? Gb of highly rated, ? Gb of recently added, ? Gb of essentials, ? Gb of unplayed etc. Each time I sync I get slightly updated selection without having to put any extra effort in.

  • Songs stopping for a few seconds during playback in both my iPad 2 and my iPod. Running latest iTunes on both. Any fixes out there? It is extremely annoying.

I noticed recently that more songs are stopping during playback for a few seconds in both my 4th generation iPod touch and my new iPad2. Very annoying. Any suggested fixes for this?  Thanks!

I should mention, it was on low power as I was using it.

  • My iPod classic will pause itself automatically and I have to keep pressing play.

It started about two weeks ago and it's so frequent I can't listen to music now.

Are the headphones plugged all the way in meaning the white part of your headset (or whatever color they may be) is flush with the body of the iPod?  The iPod has an autopause feature that kicks in whenever it no longer detects the headphones.
If that isn't the case, have you tried a hard reset? To do this, first make sure the hold switch is in the off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, a restore of the iPod in iTunes will be your next step.

  • Considering Purchasing a 160GB iPod Classic,  Dock Connector compatibility

While I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Apple (using Windows occasionally does that) I feel that I have to investigate in more detail before purchasing than I did in the past. (iMovie 08.)
I presently own a 5th generation iPod (iPod Video). All of our vehicles have a Belkin Auto Dock Connector that connects to the iPod audio and power.
    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=149006#
Under the dash the audio connects to an Aux input of the car radio. So this one connector allows the audio hook up to the cars radio and it also charges the iPod as well. I don't know all the details of the installation, it was done by a "high-end" (aren't they all?) car audio shop.
Does anyone have an opinion or actual knowledge as to the likelihood that the 160GB iPod Classic will work with this dock connector like my 5th Gen does?
    Thanks

Well, the camera connector is NOT working. Belkin TunesTalk Stereo microphone is NOT working, too. Griffin iTrip IS working. So, my opinion is, Apple would have made changes in the classic connection which makes 2/3 of my connectors worthless. I'm disappointed about that, especially that they didn't care about the use of their own cam.-connector.
Take your car, try to get a parking spot near your local dealer and find out. Of course, Apple's not responsible for other producer's products - but who handed out the specs of the connector? And who is giving up them?

  • Can I use my 160gb iPod classic as an external hard drive for my MacBook?

Can I use my 160gb iPod classic as an external hard drive for my MacBook?

That link seems to be broken.  It does normally lead to a solution. For the time being go to
    http://www.google.com/search?q=ipod+classic+disk+mode
Let your mouse hover over the link until you see the option appear on the right to view the cached version Google contains:
Putting iPod devices with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode
If necessary, verify that your iPod has a Click Wheel.
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it is charged.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".
If you are having difficulty putting your iPod into Disk Mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center. If you are still unable to put your iPod into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.
If you have an older iPod model, without a Click Wheel
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it has a charge.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until the Apple/iPod logo appears, then release them. This resets iPod. When you reset iPod, all your music and data files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost.
When the Apple logo appears, immediately press and hold the Previous and Next buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod should say "Do not disconnect".
If you have an iPod nano (6th generation)
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode,  verify that it has a charge.
Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the display turns black. This should take about eight seconds.
When the display turns black, hold down the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk mode.

My 160GB ipod classic stopped whilst playing music and will not turn back on despite having almost a full battery. I have tried connecting to itunes and a docking station but will not turn on at all - HELP?!
I've had this from new for 2 years, the battery life is excellent and lasts for days so I know it's not a power issue as it was fully charged that morning. No signs of connection in itunes, it's not showing as a connected device.
    Can anyone please help?

  • What version of iTunes should I use for my 160gb iPod classic with a 2.0.1 software?

I have a 160gb iPod classic with a 2.0.1 software. I just had my laptop fixed and I downloaded the new iTunes but I can't sync my iPod. I think this is because it's not compatible with each other (am i right?) Well, anyway, I need to know what verstion of iTunes to use so that I can sync again on my iPod. Thank you!

    hi PT the devil advocate,
    The first reason why I'm suggesting this is because of the first question ask in this post;
    sphericalcamel wrote:
I updated iTunes to whatever is current through software update, but when I tried to run it I was informed that it needed 10.4.9 to run (and for some reason software update didn't pick up that requirement).
The second reason, is because you will not receive full support on older software version. Like said above, you cannot buy song with an older iTunes version.
Beside, I said in a previous reply of this post that this is my personal preference to keep software up-to-date and that _I do understand_ that other person could prefer to stick with software version that have been proven to work well and not update. Having say this, I do not beleive that you need to play the devil's advocate here.
Nevertheless, this is normally suggested to keep software up-to-date in order to prevent either security issue (lot of updates are for improving security) and also for bugs issue. I'm not suggesting to buy Leopard here. I'm only saying that 10.4.2 is out-dated by 9 version which are free upgrade and that at version 11, 10.4 should be quite mature now for all computer.
For me, based on this, I do not see any reason why someone should not be running previous version than 10.4.11. If there is sleeping bugs running 10.4.3 and not 10.4.2, I'm suggesting to adress this issue instead because _there must be a solution to this_.
In order to solve the issue, I'm just suggesting to post it on Tiger forum.

  • Suggestion for 160GB iPod Classic

Mono Audio.  Had it on my iPod touch, loved the feature in certain situations where stereo listening didn't work.  Is this a software feature, or does it require capable hardware?  A firmware update with mono audio option on the iPod Classic would rock.
    Thanks,
    Alex.

    Hello bane007,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Does that one work with the 160gb ipod classic?
Yes. It will work just fine.
This one would work as well.

  • Can I use my old accessories for a 40GB (4G) iPod with new 160GB iPod Classic?

    I just purchased a 160GB (7G) iPod Classic. I had been using a 40GB (4G) iPod.
The male connectors on  the accessories I used with my 40GB iPod seem to fit into the female connector on my new 160 GB. So, I am wondering if I can use these old accessories with my new 160GB iPod Classic. The old accessories I used with my 40GB (4G) iPod are as follows.
    1) Wall charger made by Apple. It has a firewire connection at one end of the charger cord which connects to  the small white plastic box of the charger that plugs into the wall. The other end of the charger cord seems to fit my iPod 160GB Classic.
    2) Dock made by Apple. It uses a firewire connection cord to my computer, in contrast to the USB connection cord that came with my 160GB iPod Classic.
    3) Car chargers that worked with my old 40GB, 4G  iPod. The car charger connectors seems to fit my new 160GB iPod Classic. One car charger is made by Apple. The other is not made by Apple.
So, could you please tell me if I can use any or all of these old accessories with my new 160GB Classic without damaging it.
    Thanks.

  • I have a 160GB iPod classic. How do I get my HD movies from itunes to this iPod?

I have a 160GB iPod classic. I have HD and 1080P HD movies purchased through itunes. How do I get them to my iPod classic? It has plenty of storage. It gives me errors that make no sense to me. If making an error message, why can't they be more specific? The error messages unknown error occured (-50) audio and because they cannot be played on this iPod, "The Bourne Identity" was not copied because the video format is not supported by the iPod. I'm tired of buying 20 different versions of this and 20 different devices to play items I've purchased. Can anyone help with this issue please?
    Thank you.
    Henry

    Hello Henry,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to sync your movies purchased through the iTunes Store to your iPod classic.  I found an article with some useful information:
The iPad and iPhone 4 can play High Definition (HD) content and Standard Definition (SD) content. iPods and the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS can play Standard Definition (SD) content. To find what video formats are supported, see the Tech Specs page, click your device's product family, and then your specific model. All HD purchases from the iTunes Store also include an iPod/iPhone-compatible Standard Definition version to accompany the HD version. When syncing an HD purchase from the iTunes Store, iTunes will automatically sync the SD video for devices that require SD content.
You can find the full article here:
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1497
You can download the SD version of the movies from your list of past purchases.   You can find the steps to do this in the section titled "Apps, Books, Music, Movies, or TV shows on a computer" in the following article:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • My ipod classic will not play podcasts

I have a 160GB iPOD classic and have been syncing successfully music, podcasts, photos and videos for many years. Originally formatted on my PC, for the last year I have only been syncing on my MAC but I haven't re-formatted the iPOD and it didn't seem to mind. A couple of weeks ago the iPOD decided it would not play any video podcasts (radio podcasts are fine). I select it to play, and after a second or two it goes back to the menu. I have completely cleared the iPOD and restored to factory settings. After re-syncing it still does not work. Movies (typically MP4 conversions from DVD and the web) all play fine. I have done this on the MAC (factory reset, re-sync) and also on the PC (factory re-set, re-sync). Makes no difference. Today I deselected all podcasts, synced, then just selected a new video podcast (a TED video as it happens) but still no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think I have figured out the problem. Call it "Curse of the iCloud." In the settings I had "download most recent episode." That may have been the only one actually on my computer. The rest were hiding in the Cloud. The computer showed a couple of hundred episodes, long since sent packing but still hiding. If I click on the iCloud symbol it brings the actural podcast to my computer where it can sync to the ipod. I didn't really want 250 old podcast taking up space, but of course they aren't really taking up my space, only Apples, and what Apple wants, Apple gets, and to **** with the rest. I suppose I should have known all of this, but I didn't, and trying to find it out is somewhat daunting. Anyway, I've reset to download all future episodes, gone back  reloaded ones I hadn't listened to, and will see if that works. To quote that distinguished techie, Ricky Recardo, "We need some better 'splaining around here.

  • 160gb iPod Classic, Screen No Longer Working

    Hello,
So I have a 160gb ipod classic. I dropped it a few weeks ago by accident and now the screen does not work. No backlight, no lightup, no nothing. It will sync up to my PC just fine and if I plug headphones in and navigate to a song by memory it will play. I hoped it was just an issue with the connector coming loose inside the ipod. So i took it all apart since I got it in like 2010 and was out of warrenty. Unfortunatly, to my dismay, the issue was not the connection to the logic board. After doing a little more research I took it apart even more to see if there was a tear in the lcd connecter anywhrere, there wasn't. So I put it all back together and I was still getting the same issue. Great. My next thought was to get a new lcd. I had an ipod classic 80gb in like 2007 with a broken hard drive so I did some research and found they were the exact same lcd. So instead of buying a new lcd, I just took it out of that one and replaced it in the 160gb ipod. It worked!! well... sort of. I still get nothing on the display screen, but now, when I touch the clickwheel, the backlight lights up. Again, I can select songs from memory and it syncs up fine, but I cannot see anything on the screen. So thats a start, isnt it? I'm not sure. I tried to restore it in iTunes but kept getting an "unknown error 1514." Did some reserch on that and wasnt very helpful.
If anyone could help me out anymore that would be great. I am kind of at an end for what else to do. I'm out of ideas and after looking through this forum and others I have not found a real solution. ANY advice would be helpful. Thanks so much!
I am seriously considering ditching hard drive based media players, as the second they get dropped its all over. But I love being able to carry around all 100+ gigs of music and 30+ gigs of movies with me in one small device. if they made a 128 gig flah memory itouch id be all over it...

    Hi, Meg.
I've contacted Apple as you suggested and they have already taken care of the problem.
Thank you for your help and reply.

  • How can I Replace a Hard Drive on a 160gb iPod Classic?

How can I Replace a Hard Drive on a 160gb iPod Classic? I am considering buying an iPod Classic off of eBay which is described as 'broken' and having the 'Red X' showing up on the screen. The seller is starting the bid at a very low price, which raises some concerns for me. For this thread, let us assume that the iPod has a broken hard drive that needs to be replaced in order to function properly. I am assuming that merely 'restoring' it would not suffice. How would I be able to replace the hard drive myself, without bringing it in to a store? I have never fixed an iPod's hardware before, nor a computer or any electrical device. I am a novice at such things. Would I be able to fix it myself without wasting money on a broken iPod and new hard drive? Please provide instructions on how to do so =)

    Hello there,
Yes, the red X icon is usually a sign of a bad or damaged hard drive. Sometimes, restoring the iPod will resolve the issue, but rarely. Other users were able to smack the ipod against the side of their leg and gain back full functionality of the iPod.
However, if no such luck with either, your next option would be to replace the drive. For this task, you can either opt to repair and replace the hard drive yourself, or opt to send it into a third party repair business to do the job for you.
I use the guides at [www.ifixit.com|http://www.ifixit.com> to help me replace broken parts on an iPod. These guides provide excellent step-by-step instructions as well as photos on how to repair any part from an iPod.
Some other good sites for purchasing repair parts include the following:
    [iDemiGods|http://www.idemigods.com>
    [RapidRepair|http://www.rapidrepair.com>
    [iResq|http://www.iresq.com>
Lastly, I would also like to remind you that ebay also has several great deals on excellent iPod replacement parts. It's where I purchase a majority of mine.
    Hope this helps.
