1616 won't recognize Sim card

My first mobile phone, Nokia 1616, arrived this morning. I called my service provider, my Sim is activated, my line is open but the phone says "insert Sim" although it is correctly inserted. I tried a virgin media card from my daughter's phone and got the same message.

It sounds like the 1616 may be locked to another network preventing you from using your sims with it. Contact the person that sold you this phone and ask them if it's network locked, if so ask them which network it is locked to.

  • New droid won't recognize sim card

I just received a replacement for my motorola droid 4.  In the start up tutorial, first thing it says it take out sim card from old phone and put it in the new one.  I've done that but the screen stays on A SKM card is needed to operate this phone.  Please turn off your phone and insert your SIM card.  I have powered off and re inserted the SIM card several times but it continues to not recognize that the SIM card is installed.   HELP!!!

Perhaps the SIM is corrupted... you can get a new one free at a corporate Verizon store, or call CS and they can send you one in the mail.
In the meantime, be sure the SIM is seated securely, and don't touch the gold contacts.  Though I would think with reinserting the SIM several times it would be detected....
Are you sure you are inserting the SIM (a white card with numbers on it, goes in the bottom slot) and not the SD Card (typically black, and a bit smaller than the SIM, and sits in a slot above the SIM).

One of three things is going on here. Either the SIM is being inserted incorrectly into your replacement phone, the SIM itself needs to be replaced or the SIM slot on the replacement phone is faulty. It's possible that if you touched the gold contact on the side of the SIM card that it was corrupted and now isn't responding inside of your phone.

  • Phone won't recognize SIM card anymore

About two months ago I bought the Blackberry Curve 3G from Amazon. I bought it unlocked so that when I go back home (I'm from Holland and I'm currently in the US for a year) I can take it with me and use my old sim card. The phone worked fine up until last week; the battery died and when I turned it on as it was charging, I got a message saying the sim card was not available. I turned the phone off again, unplugged it and opened it to see if the sim card was properly inserted. It looked fine so I turned the phone back on: same thing. I've been very careful with my phone, never dropped it, never got wet etc so that can't be it.
It's not the sim card because I tried to put in a different card and that didn't work either. When I tried those two cards in a different phone, they did work.
I contacted Amazon and the company that I bought it from; they told me to contact Blackberry. What can I do??

That can happen when you drop our phone or just some pieces inside the phone near the SIM card are loose. You can contact BlackBerry Customer Support Contact (toll free): 1-877-255-2377 Option #2 and they can help you with this situation but if it is unsuccessful you have to contact Amazon so they can replace your phone immediately..
    Hope it helps!

  • IPad 2 wifi/3G won't recognize SIM card

I sold my ipad 2 in a private sale. The buyer says the 3G doesn't work.  I told him to go to Settings, cellular data, sign into Apple, choose the plan, enter credit card info, and you're good to go. he says he did that, but it says it needs a SIM card  He went to AT&T who put a SIM card in it, but it wasn't recognized.  They told him there is something wrong with the iPad. It worked fine for me when I paid for the service, though I haven't used the 3G network for a year or so. I wonder if there is an easy fix for this. I don't think I ever had a SIM card in it, unless one was put in it before shipping from Apple.  I sure didn't take it out.  I'm not sure what to do, or if it can be fixed. Anyone else had an issue like this?

remove the sim card a reseat it first, if the same issue happens then goto AT&T.. but although not often a Sim card can go bad

  • Bought 'Unlocked' iPhone 4s and it won't recognize sim card. Any help?

Had an iPhone 4 but screen broke so I sent it out for repair but it couldn't be fixed so ordered an unlocked white iphone 4s from a third party site called 'TradeAnythingUk'. I kept my sim card so I could put it in this phone it came through the post today and during setup it has told me this error message :
'The sim card in this iPhone does not appear to be supported, Onlly compatible sims from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insrt the sim that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carriers store to receive a replacement sim card'
I looked at a few forums and thought I'd try restoring the phone and re installing the software this hasn't changed anything
Is this a pure case of the phone not actually being unlocked or is there any more to this problem
I am with Orange network by the way and I am in the UK.

Apparently you didn't get an iPhone that was officially unlocked, but rather one that either wasn't unlocked at all (and you were flat lied to) or that was hacked to unlock it. Restoring would have removed any such hack in most cases.
Only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize an unlock, and most carriers will not unless you have service with them. I'd suggest you go back to the unauthorized reseller from whom you purchased this iPhone for redress, since they didn't sell you what they apparently claimed. It's quite possible, though, that you may have to chalk this up as a learning experience, swallow the loss, and buy another iPhone from an authorized source.
Just so you know, unless your old iPhone was in pieces or jailbroken, Apple would have replaced it for £119 if you had taken it to an Apple Store.
    Regards.

  • What should I do with a replacement iPhone 4s which won't recognize SIM card?

Bought iPhone 4s on release date from Sprint store. On/Off button does not work. Spring told me to go through Apple care. They sent me a replacement phone with instructions to put SIM card from first phone in second phone. I have spent literally hoursssss with both Sprint and Apple trying to get the new phone activated. "SIM card not recognized."  Tried to activate with icloud, itunes, all while on the phone with reps. Tried w/o the SIM card and got the message "Welcome to Verizon"....I am SPRINT. Put SIM card back in .... same "this phone is not compatible with this SIM card."  More hours on the phone and another "phone appointment" on Monday with "engineers"???? What to do???

Also, I was told to ask for a new replacement WITH a SIM card. Apple said I would have the same issue?????

  • My new 4s won't recognize sim card. AT

After 5 hours of trying to activate new phone I got an error message that said sim card not identified with this phone. Went to AT&T store they gave me new sim still same error. They say it's an apple issue because I bought the phone through apple. Defective phone. Really? I've been holding to 3GS all this time, very disappointed. Anyone else with this issue?

Yes, same issue.  Called ATT, they put me to high level support, then finally to apple.  They said to go to store to have someone help me activate.  They told me web order server issue with ATT.  Went to ATT store, they said everything fine on their end.  Most have been waiting 4 - 6 hours. THey sent me back to Apple.  Apple said it's a known issue, with ATT and it should be at the most 1 - 2 hours.  So worst case sceanrio, I should have only waited 8 hours at the most.  I am on over 12 1/2 hours. They are passing the buck on each other.  Apple suggested iI return it, and expect a new one in 8 business days.  I told them I will return it, but wanted to a buy a new one now.  There was no line and they had "hundreds" of my model in stock still.  The ATT regional manager was there helping with activations and she said she would not approve it and I would have to pay $599.  I am so frustrated and no one can give me an answer.

  • IPhoto won't recognize SD card placed directly into my iMac's SD slot.

iPhoto won't recognize SD card placed directly into my iMac's SD slot. Image Capture shows the name of the SD card but does not show any photos. If I use the Finder I can see all of the photos on the sd card so I know they are there. I've previously imported lots of photos from teh SD slot directly into iPhoto. Tried a second SD card with the same issue.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help
    Using iPhoto 8.1.2
    Mac OS 10.6.8

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
any tips on how to recover those lost photos?
If you don't recover the photos with the above you'll need to run a recovery app like MediaRECOVER to recover the photos from the memory card.

  • I upgraded iphone 3gs to ios6 but now iphone will not recognize SIM card

    Hi,
I upgraded both ipad 2 and iphone 3gs to ios6. I don't see any issue with ipad 2 but now iphone will not recognize SIM card. "Please insert a SIM card" message

You say "... but now panorama is not working".  Panorama never was supposed to work before iOS 6, so you'll be using it for the first time with iOS 6.
The way to enable panorama is to open the camera, click the "options" button at the top center, and select panorama.
Does this work on your iPhone?  If not, what symptoms of failure do you experience?

  • IPhone doesen't recognize SIM-card. Can't restore in iTunes

    Hi,
I bought myself an iPhone 3G the other day. I've played with it all weekend and there were no issues.
But, this morning when I booted up the phone it said:
    +Recovery required.+
+iPhone can't make or receive calls. Restore with iTunes.+
It also showed a USB-cable plugged into an iTunes icon. It didn't make any sense at all: I haven't done anything unusual with the phone!
When I connected iPhone to iTunes (8.0.2) on my iMac, it said:
+iTunes can't activate the iPhone because the SIM card either is not inserted, or requires a PIN.+
+Disconnect the iPhone, check that the SIM card is properly inserted and, if you have a PIN for your SIM card, press unlock and enter the code, and connect the iPhone again.+
So, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone either. And the iPhone won't recognize my SIM card, it seems. I've tested the SIM card in another phone and that worked properly.
What should I do? I can't do anything from the computer, nor the phone. Is it a hardware trouble? Should I get a new SIM card?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your answer. I will contact Telia as soon as possible to try to get a new card.
But, I found the official Apple support article for my problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2455?viewlocale=en_US
I've checked all of those solutions at the bottom. The SIM card is definitely in the card slider-thing.
I can't type my PIN code anywhere on the screen either! The info dialog doesn't show an IMEI or ICCID number at all.
The last solution is according to the article to restore iPhone. How? iTunes can't find it, and holding Home+Sleep won't do either.

  • I got an Australian Iphone 4s which I'll be using in Norway. Why won't my SIM Card validate?

I got an Iphone 4s from Australia to Norway (Northern Europe). My SIM card works, but my Iphone will not validate my SIM card. The cellphone was bought for 400 AUD. No SIM card was in the pack, so I take it it isn't locked. Why won't my Iphone 4s validate? Ask if more information is needed.
In advance, thank you for your help.

    This was purchased second hand?
If so, there wouldn't be a SIM card included with a used iPhone even if the iPhone was sold as carrier locked when new which usually can include a new inactivated SIM card depending on the country.
Did the person you purchased the iPhone from say the iPhone was purchased as officially unlocked when new at the Optus store? Sounds like the answer is no or there wouldn't be a problem.

  • IPhone won't accept sim card

Hey, so I have a problem. I bought an iPhone4 from the apple store, got it working fine on O2. But now I'm in another country and I've tried to pun in a new micro sim and it won't work. Invalid sim card was the message displayed and the phone is unable to load the network list. Why is this happening? The phone should be unlocked since it was purchased in the apple store.

It's not Apple's fault. Apple doesn't own any networks, they just make the hardware. Contracts with many carriers that support the iPhone require the phone be locked to their network. Such is the case with AT&T.
French law requires that unlocking be available for all phones sold there. You can purchase an officially unlocked phone at any Apple store or online. Be careful if you purchase at an Apple store, both carrier locked & unlocked are available. Make sure, if you purchase at an Apple store, that the phone is unlocked. While french law requires the carriers unlock phones, best to start out with an unlocked phone to begin with.
