The Mac Guy 12,
One of my G3 desktops is very picky about the video cards I feed it. Post back with more details on the card. Meanwhile, have you zapped the PRAM/Video RAM data in the G3 DT?

  • ITunes Audio/Video Not Synched

    Why do movies play great in Quicktime player but the audio and video are out of synch when played in iTunes?
    Here's how i get around the problem...
    Watch all movies using Quicktime player.
    Can't watch rented movies with the Quicktime player, so I use another service to rent movies.
    sadly this problem is over a year old. the last update once again didn't address the issue.

    Looks like your computer is under spec if you're using the latest iTunes (7.0.2) - if you're not post back with which version you are using and see if anyone else knows what to try next.
    Additional Video Requirements

  • Poor Video performance when using ver 9.0.2 of Jdeveloper

    I am using the 9.0.2 version of JDeveloper under Linux Suse 8.0. Does anyone know why when I use this product ubder this operating system the screens either do not refresh quickley or completely? I am using a 16MB video card.

    I tried this test:
    drop table foo;
    create table foo (numeric number, text varchar2(2000));
    begin
      for i in 1 .. 100000 loop
        insert into foo values (i, 'the cat sat on the mat');
      end loop;
    end;
    create index fooindex on foo(text) indextype is ctxsys.context
    filter by numeric
    EXEC dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot;
    begin
      for i in 1 .. 100000 loop
        delete from foo where numeric = i;
      end loop;
    end;
    commit;
    EXEC dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot;
    @?/rdbms/admin/awrrpt.sqlIn the AWR report, I can see 100,000 inserts into CTXSYS.DRV$DELETE2 and 100,000 deletes from CTXSYS.DRV$SDATA_UPDATE2. On my desktop PC these take 4.06 seconds and 2.85 seconds of CPU time respectively, compared to 5.43 seconds for the delete from the $K table. Elapsed times are almost identical to CPU times.
    That doesn't seem unreasonable to me - 70 microseconds per row updated. I added "alter system flush shared pool" before starting the delete but it made very little difference. If your figures are much worse than this then perhaps we should look further into it.

  • Can you revert back to an older version of I tunes?

    I have OS X 10.4 and tried to download the latest version of Itunes. Under system requirements, I thought it said you must have OSX 3.9 or later . . .so I downloaded it. Now when I try to open I tunes on my computer it says "you must have OS X 4.2 or later, for info an upgrading you operating system . . . " So my questions are, why did it let me down load I tunes 7.2 if my system did not meet the requirements and how do I get back to an older version? I have tried to download I tunes 6 but everytime I click to install it just says there is nothing to install. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Lingar,
    I think Chris was looking for your specific update number of your OS X installation.
    In other words, mine (and Chris's) is 10.4.10. The ".10" after the "4" indicates which update to Mac OS X we have installed.
    Choose "About This Mac" from the Apple logo in the menu bar and see what it says next to Version.
    iTunes 7.3.2 current requirements:
    Macintosh Requirements
    * Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later or Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later required for iTunes
    * Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later required for iPhone
    * 500MHz G3 processor or better
    * QuickTime 6.5.2 or later
    * 256MB RAM
    * Combo/Super Drive to burn CDs
    * Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming
    music
    Additional Video Requirements
    * Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later
    * 1 GHz G4 processor or better
    * QuickTime 7.1.6 or later
    * 16MB video RAM
    As long as your OS is 10.4.7 or above, you meet the necessary OS requirements for iTunes 7.3.2.
    But as Chris suggested to another poster, it's probably a good idea to update your OS to the most current version. Download the 10.4.10 Combo updater from http://www.apple.com/support/downloadshttp://www.apple.com/support/downloads and install.
    It's also a good idea to repair permissions following the OS update.

  • My MSI Vox Doesn't Work, I could really use some help.

    Hello all,
    I just purchased the Vox Tuner and everytime I try to run it I get a blue screen error (Windows XP stop error) complaining about either driver IRQL not less then or equal or nehcd.sys (which is the driver for my usb 2.0 card).
    My system is Dell Optiplex GX240, Pentium 4, 1.5 Ghz, 384 MB Ram, Rage 128 Pro 16MB video card, 60 gig hd space (1 20 and 1 40 gig drive), 2 LG Burners (CD-R/RW and DVD+-R/RW/RAM). Running Windows XP Pro and all updated drivers and the like.
    Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?
    Thanks,

    PS, anyone know what the polarity/voltage on the MSI adapter for the Vox is? Or where I can buy the adapter? Thanks,
    I doubt anyone would know this off-hand. Contact MSI tech and they should be able to find out for you. Glad you got it working

  • G4 Cube -- How to view on a TV

    Does the video/graphics card in the Cube support TV out through either the VGA or the ADC ports?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    The Cube came with a 16MB video card as standard equipment and the card doesn't work well with TV/VGA out.
    If you don't get an answer here you might want to take a look at the Cubeowners Forums and see if there is any info that might help, like this:

  • Solaris 10 only wants to work on low resolution

    Hi,
    I have a NVIDIA Vanta 16mb video card with an AOC Spectrum 7Eira 17" monitor.
    When installing Solaris 10 it detected correctly the video and monitor and I selected 1024x768 256 colors resolution.
    Now the OS only works on a 640x480 resolution.
    I tried sys-unconfig and kdmconfig.
    Who can I make Solaris to stay in the resolution I want, I know the hardware is capable.
    Thanks.
    Lorenzo Jimenez

    Which build of Solaris 10? One of the recent changes is
    that the Xsun server was replaced with the X.org server.
    Under the new X.org server, it should do the right
    thing. But if it doesn't, then you need to run xorgconfig
    instead of kdmconfig and look at /var/log/Xorg.?.log
    for debugging information.

  • Seriouse Slowdown in Flash 8

    (specs: 2.4ghz P4, 1gb pc2100 ram, 16m onboard video, Win2000
    sp4)
    I’m working with Poser6 and Swift3D4.5 to bring 3D
    character animation into flash. Once the character is rendered in
    Swift3D it usually requires a little cleanup in Flash before being
    dropped into the final animation.
    In FlashMX04 this was usually a non-issue – just
    required a few clicks to make sure all of the colors were
    consistent etc, and it took just a few minutes to touch up an
    entire animation.
    Just started working with Flash8 a few weeks ago, and these
    Swift renders are like pulling teeth. The program just flat out
    runs too slow. Several other people in my work group have mentioned
    this, so I don’t think its just my machine. Each time I click
    to move an object around the stage, it takes a minimum of 10
    seconds or so to complete the action. A simple paint bucket fill of
    an area can take over 20 seconds, making the touchup of a 20+ frame
    animation a very time consuming process…
    I wasn’t sure for a while if this problem was caused by
    the way Swift was rendering my scenes, so I took one of these
    intensive files back into MX04 just to make sure it was rendered
    correctly… painting, moving, re-drawing all worked just fine
    and happened in the instantaneous fashion you’d expect them
    to.
    Looking at the windows Performance monitor, these drawing
    functions in MX04 get the processor up to 20% for very brief
    periods, and in Flash8 they peg the proc at 100% for tens of
    seconds at a time.
    Anyone have suggestions? Are there any ways to set up my
    paging files etc to boost performance? Hopefully this issue will be
    dealt with soon in a patch. Thanks for any help – I
    appreciate it…

    16mb video memory and your using onboard video? Dude...are
    you some faggy clown? When are you going to jump into the 20th
    century and get a PC that can handle graphics editing? ...and
    what's with saying you have several other people in your workgroup?
    Sounds more like your working out of your parents basement on
    hand-me-down equipment. Real companies that deal with this stuff
    usually afford an equipment upgrade now and then. Even if your
    doing heavy graphics you should still have equipment that can
    handle the stuff your putting on it. On that note, if your company
    is giving you this crap, what kind of gear is your presentation
    going to run on? Will it even handle what you make? Your "company"
    can go out and drop $200+ on Swift3D and another $700 for flash,
    but they go and put it on a $200 machine??? Are you kidding me? Did
    you pirate Swift3D and Flash? None of this makes sense.
    It's called advancement. Get some new gear and then try it
    out. Saying a new piece of software is slow on an old machine is
    like trying to install Windows XP on an old 286sx. Your problem is
    that you think new means faster. In the software world it's quite
    the opposite. The software is built to take advantage of the
    cutting edge hardware. Software get's bigger with new features, not
    smaller. You can get a decent system for under $1000 today that is
    more than capable. This might mean picking up a paper route, or
    helping out around the house.

    I get the following error message:
    "We could not complete your iTunes store request.An unknown error occurred(0x00186A5)."
    I get this message when my internet at home, and at the apple store when I try to 1) Sign in to the iTunes store 2) Play any of my purchased iTunes music.
    I have reloaded iTunes, reset preferences, check my keychain for errors, checked my computer for errors.
    All my music that I bought with iTunes I cannot access, somehow not authorized to play it and I cannot log into the store to re-authorize my computer.
    The "techs" at the genius bar stated that this error did not fall under any known error codes, and that it most likely must be an account issue that iTunes has to fix on their end. Meanwhile my 50+albums I have purchased cannot be accessed.

    When you have a problem it is useful for you to include your exact OSX version, iTunes verson and Quicktime version.

  • Airport card disappears in OS9?

    Hello all
    I just acquired a G4 cube.  It has 640MB RAM (more is on order) and a stock 16MB video card (got a new one on the way...) and the Airport card.  I just did a clean install of OS 9, and updated to 9.2.2.   The entire system, including the Airport card works flawlessly under Tiger (I'm using it to type this message), but the Airport card disappears in OS 9.  On initial boot in OS 9, the Airport card will show up, with four "bars" of signal in the control strip, showing it is connected to my home network (which is temporarily secured with WEP, so it will play nice with OS 9 - I've also tried it with an unsecured network).  However, whenever I try to actually use the network (software update, web browsing, whatever), the bars go blank, then the Airport icon greys out and disappears.  I click on it and get the message "there is no Airport card installed".  Occasionally, it gives me a number "3278" and nothing else.
    I don't know if this is related, but OS 9 feels a LOT slower than it should on this G4.  Tiger runs a lot smoother and faster, yet there is considerable mouse lag when dragging the pointer across the screen, and a definite lag when opening applications or documents in OS 9.
    Any ideas on why I can see my Airport card in X and not in OS 9?
    thanks,
    Rich

    OK, more weirdness...
    Before I received our last message, I got a strange error - I came back to the computer and there was an error box saying something like "This computer can not go to sleep because it is missing some of the system software.  Please reinstall the system software.".  Gulp!    Sounds like a corrupted OS install...so, I wiped the drive.  I repartitioned it (120GB WD drive - 4096MB for OS 9, the rest for X) and formatted it using the OS 9 disk utility software.  I then booted from the "Software Install" disk and let 'er rip.  I wound up with an OS 9.1 partition...and...all of the original Airport card problems were back!!!   I tried to put the machine to sleep, and got the above error again.
    So I reformatted again, and this time used the "PowerMac G4 Cube System Restore" disk, which reset everything to factory defaults from a disk image.  Again....no Airport, and no sleeping due to "missing system software".   What in the name of the Force is going on here...?
    I am now running extended Apple Hardware Tests and will report back.
    Of course, everything works perfectly in OS X, so I'll probably just let it live in Tiger land...but this is seriously challenging my Mac geek cred...LOL
    And just a side note - OS 9 installs SO much more quickly than X!   I've been able to completely reinstall twice now in rather little time!

  • Upgrading from 9.2 to 10.4

    I have an iMac C3 DV 350mhz, 512 MB, 10 GB. After much resistance, I am finally ready to enter the era of System 10 (I will purchase the software for 10.4). But before I do this I have a couple of questions .
    1)Since I do not have a DVD player, only a built in CDRom and an external CD burner, can 10.4 be found in CD format? All t he ones I've seen on sale on line seem to come only in DVD format.
    2)I would like to keep 9.2, since both my current scanner and CD burner do not make drivers for OS 10. Is it difficult to keep both systems (9.2 and 10,4) on the computer at the same time? And if I do that, would I be able to run the scanner and driver using 9.2 or would the presence of 10.4 somehow prohibit that?
    HK Jones

    With only a 10 GB hard drive, you would do best to stay with OS 9.2 - unless you are willing to install a larger hard drive.
    Computers are obsolete after about 3 or 4 years, so you've done very well with yours. It would be better to save up for a new unit than to try to upgrade the one you have, dollar for dollar. In fact, check out the specs for the newest version of iTunes (copy/paste)
    "Macintosh Requirements

    Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later
    500 MHz G4 processor or better
    QuickTime 7.0.3 or later

    What is really scary is this copy/paste from software update (I have an iMac DV 400 on my network)....
    "After purchasing music from the iTunes Music Store with iTunes 6 or later, you will also need to upgrade your other computers that purchase music from the iTunes Music Store to iTunes 6.0.1"
    A catch 22, eh?
