16x9 image on mini-DV becomes 720x480 when imported to FCE...?

I've looked under FCE settings and preferences, but still haven't figured out why it's not importing the 16x9 image as is...?

Hi -
You need to use the Easy Set Up with the Anamorphic option.
Change your easy set up, re-capture your footage, open a new sequence and you should be good to go.
iMove looks at the embedded code for the Anamorphic flag, FCE in this iteration does not and you have to tell it you are working with Anamorphic footage.

  • Premiere Pro 2014 Application becomes unresponsive when importing a video from iPhoto

    Hello and good morning!
    I shot some sample footage using an iPhone 5. I shot just over a minute of sample footage. I imported the footage via the USB cable and my Macbook Pro 13 (2011).
    Following these steps causes the application to freeze indefinitely at the "Importing Files" dialog box.
    1.) File -> Import
    2.) Select iPhoto under the Media subsection
    3.) Select the movie and click import
    The application just freezes until I go to the activity monitor and force quit. Then I get the "Adobe Premiere Pro has encountered a serious error." Someone should look into this bug.
    Additional Info:
    Specs of the machine this happened on:
    Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 (i7 2.7 GHz, 16GB, 480 SSD)  
    Specs of the machine at my home workstation that doesn't have this issue:
    Custom Built (4770K 16GB DDR3 256SSD RenderOutput 2TB SSHD Scratch 1TB WD Black) w/ 3 Dell Ultrasharps
    For those of you that are curious. I doing a pilot video project of sorts. A behind the scenes video for a fashion photographer who is a friend. It was my idea since I wanted to try something new. The photographer likes the idea because its something to add to his portfolio about his work. However, for this project I'm basically on my own and I need to produce a viable product before I convince myself to invest in a decent video camera. 

    Thanks for the reply however, this issue is isolated to the use case I mentioned above. The video imports fine once I copy the file and import the file directly; say I copy the file to my desktop then add the file. I know about the variable frame rate issue however this isn't the case for the iPhone 5. I have encountered that issue with the NVIDIA DVR feature for capturing 3D graphics. (DAWN Demo.)
    It seems this may be some kind of permissions issue since when selecting a media file through the iPhoto link in OSX finder dialog the file is located in a library package. The issue does not affect Photoshop, Lightroom, nor Illustrator (CC 2014) when importing media using the same method.
    It seems like just a bug that was missed.
    I apologize if I may have posted this in the wrong forum. Perhaps there is a technical or bug reporting forum? (I also am encountering another bug with AE linked clips in Premere Pro in OSX that wasn't there before.)

  • Aspect ratio changes when importing to FCE 4.0.1

    I'm hoping someone with a better understanding of FCE will be able to help...
    I have footage shot in 1920x1080 (16:9) format. I have the sequence set to any of the available 1920x1080 (16:9) formats via Easy Setup. Create a new Sequence with the correct settings. However when importing the footage into FCE it converts to a 1440x1080 (4:3) aspect ratio... This I understand is the anamorphic format of 4:3. What am I supposed to do so that when importing, the original format is not altered.

    I do know what 4:3 is and what 16:9 is. First, understand that there is no HD format, none, that is 4:3. They are all widescreen. 1440 is a way of compressing the media to use a limited data rate more efficiently by applying it to a smaller frame size while maintaining the standard display size. The material is displayed at full widescreen. If you have 1440 material in FCE you have probably noticed that the canvas is not 4:3. The canvas is widescreen. That's the display size.
    Actually HDV's native format is not 1920. The native format agreed by the HDV consortium is 1440x1080 for 1080i material. That's the compression size. The display size is 1920. HDV is normally shot and compressed to 1440x1080 in camera. That's the native size of the frame.
    The HV20 is an HDV camera. The CX12 is not. It's an AVCHD camera. That's a different format. They are not the same, and they compress media in entirely different ways. HDV is an older format that compresses to MPEG-2. AVCHD uses H.264 in MPEG-4. Neither of them are production formats. They are both compression formats that were designed for delivery, compressing group of frames. In their original format they are almost impossible to edit, which is why FCE and other applications convert the media to a production format that uses individual frame compression so you can edit exact frames. HDV is either 1280x720 or 1440x1080 (displayed as 1920). AVCHD is either 1440x1080 or 1920x1080, both displayed as 1920x1080. You can also have 1280x720 AVCHD, though I don't know any camera that actually shoots that excellent format.
    "The footage resides on my computer." Perhaps you'd bother telling us how you got it into your computer. What application did you use? Every application will handle the ingest of this media in a different way, consequently it may not work properly with this application. I assumed you used the application this forum is about to bring this material into your computer. Did you, or did you ingest it with something else? How did you get it into the computer for you to import in FCE? Once again the correct size for this material is very likely 1440x1080. That's the native size for HDV sequences that are 1080. In 4.0.1 you can have sequences that are 1920x1080. These are designed to accommodate that AVCHD material shot at 1920x1080. Not all AVCHD material is in that size, and frankly there is no real advantage to it, and probably some disadvantages as the same data rate has to be used for a largely frame size.
    All this said, I'm not sure what you're hoping and waiting for.

  • 2nd audio track at 12-bit lost when importing into FCE?

    I have got some DV-tapes with finalised movies which I would like to import into FCE for a) applying some enhancements and b) then burning them onto DVD. These movies once were created with FCE but after they had been exported to DV-tape (in 12-bit manner) some additional audio was added, directly via camcorder. The issue which I have got now is that although I can easily re-import these movies into FCE, the additional audio does not appear in FCE. Also, when directly checking the imported files in FCE's Capture Scratch by using the Quicktime Player the additional audio is not there.
    I tried importing into iMovie and here (as opposed to FCE) the complete audio is available, both the audio originally composed via FCE and the additional audio which has been added afterwards via camcorder. Unfortunately iMovie will crash multiple times at importing due to the large number of individual clips, btw this is the reason why I once had to give up working with iMovie and bought FCE.
    Anybody has an idea how I can import into FCE the movies along with the entire audio, or is this a weak point in FCE? In case of the latter, anybody has an idea for a workaround?

    The user manual of course is the best (should be) place to go for info on how to operate your camera. Might be one of those direct to English translations.
    My idea is to use a camera that can access the 2nd stereo pair seperately. Then dub to another camera. Usually this is done via a switch or menu system.
    That's where that camera manual comes (should) in handy. Also, some cameras allow you to MIX the four tracks, if this feature is available, you could dub the MIXED audio (all four tracks) to another camera.

    iMovie to FCE is not my first choice as the importing is accompanied with quirks of all sorts, the audio is multiplexed with the video, the audio will always need to be rendered as well. Use it as a last resort IMO.
    I have have heard of third party applications that can do this job, sorry, can't recall the details.

  • Quicktime movies become 10fps when imported into FCP7

    Hello,
    I have a bunch of Quicktime files I created using Snapz Pro, and they all play normally in Quicktime at 30fps with no problems.
    Then I capture them into FCP 7.0.2 and they become 10fps. I put them on the timeline and the audio plays at 30fps and the video plays in super slow motion (I'm guessing 10fps).
    Strangely, when played in the viewer, they play back normally.
    Any idea what could be causing this?

  • "The volume for "IMAGE.JPG" cannot be found" problem when importing images

    This first started when I hooked up my card reader to my mac. I'd get the above image when I tried to import files off of it. My options are"
    - Cancel - Find Photo… - OK -
    OK = Nothing. It flashes and stays.
    Find Photo = Navigating to the image, (all the others are grayed out except the one it says it can't find)
    Cancel = This actually loads the image, but then the next image has the same issue. Forcing a quit seems to be the only way out.
    I want to like apple but this stinks and is unusable.

    This sometimes occurs if you’re importing a file into iPhoto and there’s already a file there with the same name. Digital cameras can produce many, many files with the same name over their lifetime, so it’s not uncommon to have several files called IMG_00543.JPG, for instance. Now you want to import one also called this.
    What happens is that iPhoto compares the two files to check for duplicates. However, if iPhoto cannot find the file already in the database for comparison, then you get this message. It suggests that your database is damaged because iPhoto has lost track of this (or these) similarly named files.
    A simple test is to rename the file you are importing - just add a character - IMG_00543a.JPG for instance. If this then imports with no issue then you might consider rebuilding your library:
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • SSIS: Why do columns become misaligned when importing flat files?

    I am stumped with the following.
    When I try to load a fixed length flat file into a table, the first few thousand records load correctly but then the columns start going out of sync.
    Visually it looks like the data is drifting off to the right. Below is what the table looks like when the load completes:

    Additional info:
    1. The file has 400 000 records.
    2. The first few thousand records load OK.
    3. Source file is a flat file, fixed length, no delimeters.
    4. All rows are same length, with LFCR.
    I tried using a script task to check with C# if all rows are the same length and has the same line terminator, and could  not pick up anything out of the ordinary.
    What could be the cause?

    I discovered the source of the problem, but still don't understand how to solve it.
    There is one extra character in one of the columns every few thousand lines. This is the character: �
    I don't understand why all the rows following a corrupt row is shifted by one character and not just the effected row?
    Secondly, via a script task, SSIS indicates that the length of the row is still the same, despite the extra character. Is it possible that SSIS does not recognize this character and this is what is causing all columns to shift / mis-align?

    I'm using FCP X.  I have imported 18 high quality photos from iPhoto into my timeline.  When I play my sequence the photos appear blurry. 

    Do you have an orange render bar? If you do, Control-R will render selected clips and Shft+Control R will render all.

  • Pixel art becomes blurry when imported

    I have got into game development and have started to try out pixel art.
    I created a character with 10 or so layers, arms, legs, heads etc. Then i saved it as a psd.
    I imported the psd file and it look perfect, i moved it into the correct place then clicked the tick button at the top to confirm it.
    Then character then went all blurry, please help!
    btw, i am a programmer, not an artist.

    I need to have all the layers to animate it, in the end i just enlarged the background of the character file and am now using that.
    I think one way to fix it would have to changed the interpolation to nearest neighbour, i do this when rotating it.

    Hi, I am currently creating a video that includes keynote animations.
    I exported the keynote presentation as a 'Full Quality, Large" mov file, which plays great with QT, but importing this into FCE creates a dropdown in quality. Images are a bit blur, and texts look jagged.
    Is there a specific setting I should have made in order to maintain quality??

    create your Keynote charts in final project's resolution 1920x1080 ..

  • Livetype pixillated when imported to FCE

    I rendered some titles with backgrounds and then imported them into FCE 4, but when i played them they were very pixellated. Is there any way that there can be a higher rendering standard so that it is not?
    I also tried to save it and import it directly into FCE, but the backgrounds or "textures" i used did not appear. All that was there was the title and a black backdrop. I know that to render it, i had to check the box saying "render background" and then it rendered everything just like it played in livetype. Is there a way to use a livetype title so that it comes with the texture or background and is in good quality?

  • Upright JPEGs Appear On Their Side When Imported To FCE?

    I have imported numerous upright (Portrait View) JPEGs into FCE and they all appear on their sides (Landscape View).
    They were converted to appear correctly oriented in Photoshop and Preview but refuse to behave in FCE.
    I know I can use the Motion window to rotate them but there is a very large number.
    How do I batch do it and more importantly is there a way of making FCE recognise from the start that they should be upright?

    I have just batch converted the JPEGs to TIFFs in Photoshop and they display correctly in FCE.
    It looks as though it is a JPEG "feature" ......... is there any way of handling JPEGs to stop this behaviour or must I always convert them to another format?

    The reason they look more blurry than in the original swf is
    that you are
    dealing with dual compression from the original swf AND the
    swf you are loading
    the images into.
    The easiest/best way to import your jpgs would be using
    LoadMovie to load
    the actual jpg files. That keeps all the jpgs separate so
    your swf file will
    be tiny. Plus the quality will be the same as the original
    jpg.
    That said- have you gone into your swfs and changed the
    default image quality
    on each of the images to 90 or 100? You do that in your
    library by right-clicking
    on the actual images and then going to Properties and
    unchecking "Use document
    default quality". That is one issue that a lot of people seem
    to miss and
    it might help if you don't want to recode your Flash with the
    LoadMovie method.

  • Color Shift When Importing JPG Sequence into Flash CS6

    I am importing a jpg sequence into flash that has been exported from After Effects CS6. No matter what I try, the color will shift when the image imports into flash. The sequence originally started out as a vector graphic in Illustrator (color profile set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1) and then imported into After Effects for an animation that I couldn't quite achive in Flash. The color profile in After Effects is also sRGB IEC61966-2.1 with the "Match Legacy" checkbox checked. I export it out of After Effects as a JPG Sequence and then import into Flash. No matter what I try, the bitmap images' color will shift (become dull) when I import. Even when I open the images in Windows Photo Gallery, they look fine - it's only when I import into Flash.  I've also tried PNG and .PSD Sequence with the same result. I've searched around, but still haven't found a solution. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I am in the midst of trying to figure out the opposite : Flash to After Effects.  I am betting that this is an issue of 'color profile' attached to the images and the gamma settings in that profile.  RGBA is only part of the story - color profile is all the rest of it.  Eye Dropper doesn't tell you the color profile attached to the image.

    When I'm importing footage from my camcorder into FCE there is audio in the caputure window & no levels on my audio meters. The camcorder I'm using is a ZR500 Mini DV using to import.

    That's normal for FCE. All versions have been the same. If you need to hear the audio use the cameras headphone socket if it has one.
    All audio can be adjusted in the Timeline during editing as required.
