17" ACD gone bright pink

This issue could be with the Apple ADC to DVI convertor box or cable, but I can't confirm if it is that or my monitor. I am using a 17" clear ACD with a mac mini, and I started to get intermittant bright pink screens, which has progressed into pink all the time, and a horizontally squashed screen that shows the desktop twice (one on top of the other, both squashed).
I am pretty sure that the cable coming out of the convertor box is the culprit, since I was able to get it working normally by jiggling the cable, and it started acting up when I was plugging and unplugging some USB devices. Now it won't work properly at all, and I do not have an old computer to plug the monitor in directly to check with. I did plug the monitor and convertor into a G5 PowerMac, and had the same result. When I plugged in a newer 20" Apple aluminum display into the Mini, it worked fine.
The trouble is that all of the cables on the monitor and convertors are built in and not easily replaced.
Any suggestions?

Yep, I had to buy a new convertor box to fix the issue.
Please, Apple, make your products with removable cables!

Right click on the background in the work area, and you should be able to change it from there.

  • NEF thumbnails showing as bright pink why?

My NEF thumbnails have just started showing as bright pink in Bridge. They are ok when  I open them in ACR. I am using cs6 and Mac 10.5.6

That is indeed weird, no experience with Nikon (use Canon ) but it is not the first time problems about interaction between both brands are reported.
However if it worked before there might have been some setting in NX2 changed if your Bridge settings did not change. But using Bridge Photodownloader from card reader is a workflow I am using for a long time without problems other then not importing High speed series not imported in the correct order as they where shot (using sort by create date in Bridge usually corrects this)

  • My screen on my pro has gone pixilated pink?

my screen on my pro has gone pixilated pink? Started out where all black spots were grenn,  then changed to pink.   took it to a local mac shop and they ewere stumped and suggeseted a $600 dollar repair.  before i commit just want to check if anyone else has had this issue

    That basically answers it.
OK on external monitor........but still bad on new LCD attached
Its either the monitor cable going from logic to monitor, or a bad connection on logic where said cable connects.
(Id lay speculative odds 7 to 1 its a bad monitor cable)
If you luck out, its a $10 cable and labor.
If not, youre talking about a logic board.
Your problem is all but diagnosed,...........now for a repair.

There are an increasing number of posts in this forum and elsewhere in the internet with the steps to do a resets on different printers.  The reset itself will sometimes fix problems, so the reset is not the issue.
Some resets require you to enter button combinations to open special menus on your printer that you were never meant to access.  These special menus are used by the developers and support personnel for debugging issues, but they are not meant for untrained users and can have unintended results.  One wrong button push and you no could no longer have a printer, but instead a pricey paper weight.  To top it off, if you do happen to "brick" the printer this way, it is considered customer induced damage, and voids the warranty automatically. These resets are only meant to be given out and used as a last resort, and under direct instruction of a HP tech support representative. They should not be done lightly!

  • New acd's brighter?

at work we've had 2 20" acd's at each workstation for about 2-3 years now. we just got new 30" acd's, so each workstation will have a big one and a small one. i've set up one workstation and there is a noted difference in the monitors. the 20" that we've had for a while is significantly dimmer than the 30. is this because the specs have changed and the displays these days are brighter? or is the dimness a reflection of the wear 2-3 years of constant use will have on LCD screens?
i guess basically what i'm asking is are my older ones fading on me or are the new ones just made to be brighter?
i would hope that the brightness life of LCDs is longer than that...especially since i'm considering purchasing an LCD tv for home use...if it starts dimming in the space of 2 to 3 years, i may have to wait for OLEDs to come out.
anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.
    thanks

There was a change a year or so ago that increased the brightness.

  • ACD 23" Brightness controls inoperable

Like SO many other people I was having trouble with my ACD 23" monitor not turning on at start up. By swapping out components with an identical monitor, I determined that the problem is most likely the power brick.
I am currently using an identical power brick borrowed from a friend and the monitor is working again, but now the monitor runs at FULL BRIGHTNESS all the time. I have no ability to adjust the Brightness throught the control panel, monitor buttons or F14/F15 function keys.
I have tried rebooting to correct it, but no success. Is it possible that a preference file needs to be thrown away and rebuilt, or could it be something else??

I am having the exact/identical problem. I purchased my 23" Cinema Display three days ago. Everything was fine then all of a sudden, without touching the keyboard or monitor the brightness icon came up and increased to full brightness. I rebooted... nothing. None of the side control buttons work and my monitor light is not on, although the display is on (& at full brightness). I tried going thru System Preferences -> Monitors -> brightness, but it overrides the brightness that I slide to and goes to full brightness.

  • Help I've gone all pink

I connected a dv camera via forewire and my display has gone pink.
I have tried to reset both the display monitor (Dell 1990fp) and my mac mini, but this has made no difference.
How do I get back to normal colours?
    thx

Welcome to the Apple discussion forums
When you bring up system preferences (light switch with Apple logo), and choose displays, and color, which profile is highlighted? On mine, my display monitor is highlighted, although you can choose any of the other profiles. Does choosing any of the others modify the pink you're seeing?

  • Half of picture is bright pink and orange

I recently started using LIghtroom 5,  organized and then imported all my picutures.
i have been working on adding keywords, deleting and decideing which pictures to keep.last night i was trying out a couple of presents to a photo to see what it looked like and after i had tried several the pictures lower half was bright pinkand orange overtop of the regular photo. I tried the restore defaults , didnt help, went to develop and tried the reset button there and nothing. when i look at the original file on my hard drive the thumbnail looks normal, when i enlarge the picture the bottem half where the colours were is black.  the picture has been on the computer since Feb 28, i download from camera, i have not had any issues with any other pictures. I tried deleteing picture and re- importing with no success. i first deleted from hard drive and then after re importing i tried again just deleting from lightroom. no change to picture on hard drive. while loolking through the history pane, i i could see the presets i had added and then where i had hit restore defaults. I am not sure what else to say , except i am a little leary of doing anything in light room at this point for fear of screwing up more pictures.  and no I dont have a backup yet,  thats how new this is to me. Is there anything i can do ? or is this picture lost to me? and how do i know my copy of lightroom will not do this again? Thanks Vicki

I recently experienced the very same issue on a few specific photos.  I'm using the latest version of ViewNX2 2.10.3 which came with my D7100 and I have LR5.7.  I talked to the Mac guys this morning and they said it had to be a software issue between Nikon ViewNX2 and Lightroom.  I have since imported different raw files into LR from ViewNX2 and have not had an issue.  I'm not a "geek" but I do not believe it's hardware.....
Here is the file after it was imported into LR
Now, I went back to the original file in View and exported it out of View and here were the results....
We do need a definite answer on this one and I will keep pursuing...

  • Screen gone crazy (pink lines+ flickering)

I was playing dota2 and suddenly screen went bad for no reason at all, what I saw is massive horizontal pink lines with some green highlights too and everything looks like its moving up and down in super speed. Its like watching a 3d movie without 3d glasses but worse. This problem is there on boot screen also not just on windows login.
I am clueless cause both gpu's seem to be detected as working in device manager and i never rough used my laptop or even removed those plastic cover it came with.
I need to get this fixed fast, what do I do? I doubt long hours of keeping the laptop running can cause this! Can it? All i do is email and small ms office.
    List of things i tried:
Restarted, updated AMD drivers chipset since my card is AMD, disabled Intel and AMD gpu one by one and restarted.

    @dizzy123 ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums. What generally causes this is the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard.  It happens over time due to opening and closing and causing the cord to flex.
So that I am better to help you with your issue could you please post back with your systems key information.

I bought a new ADC/DVI converter ($99) and that fixed it. I am almost positive it was only the cable.
My question is: why can't Apple PLEASE make these convertor boxes AND their monitors with removable/replaceable cables?
I ended up spending 10 times what I should have to fix the issue. it should have never broken in the first place, since it rarely even ever got touched, and had never been disconnected.
Just for grins, after I bought the new converter, I tried to open the old one to see if I could remove the cable. I could not even get the box open without destroying it.
My 20" Cinema Display has a dead bug inside it, and it is also impossible to open up without destroying it, just to clean it.
I just have to express my displeasure at Apple making their products non-servicable. What a waste.

  • The Colour Has Gone!!!!!!!!

    Hello, fellow Apple People,
My sister has an iPad 2. And she's always on it. When it's charging, when she gets up and all day every day. My dad reckons that she's overheated it because, the colour has completely gone. The screen which first appears when you switch it on properly, the back screen is red and the apple logo is black. None of the apps that she has downloaded have been affected but the ones that are already installed have been affected. The colours have been changed the likes of, bright pink, bright green and other luminous colours. We've tried re-charging it and switching it off and starting it again, but nothing will work.
    Please help us!

Check that Settings > General > Accessibility > Invert Colors is not turned ON.

  • 2014 Mac Mini shows pink screen when waking

I have a 2014 3Ghz i7 mac mini which I have attempted to connect two different Asus monitors via two different HDMI cables in multiple configurations. Regardless of the connection combination when the mac awakes from sleep or from the screensaver (to show the login screen) the screen shows up as bright pink and I can barely make out the password box.
Turning off the monitor and turning it back on corrects the problem as does waiting about 10 seconds for the monitor to go out of sync and return. After this time the issue goes away until the computer sleeps or I enter the sleep saver again and have to re-login.
    Is anyone else encountering this?
PRAM and SMC have been reset already.

I don’t know if this solves the pink screen problem, whatever it is. I’m not a techie so this is all I can offer.
I got my Mini end of December and the pink screen problem just started now. I had no pink screen until I went to change the Sleep / Wake settings. Then I started getting the pink screen with desktop barely showing through. So think when / if you changed your settings from the default. Maybe your problem started after that.
Returning settings to default doesn't fix it. I also tried to check / uncheck different sleep / wake settings, but didn't work either.
I have the latest Mac Mini 3 GHz
Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM Yosemite 10.10.2.
External ASUS PA248 monitor via HDMI.
I know everyone has different set-ups with slight variations in the problem, but maybe this will help some people. It seem to have worked to solve the pink from appearing, but I don’t think it has solved he actual problem. At least if I have to go to my computer every half hour, I don’t have to wear out my monitor button by having to turn it on all the time just to get rid of the pink screen.
I know people want their Mini to sleep but for these instructions your Mini will have to remain awake all the time.
This is my monitor set up.
Screen saver set to go on in 10 minutes.
Monitor shuts off in 15 minutes.
The Mini stays on all the time, no sleep or wake cycles.
    1. Go to ENERGY SAVINGS
    2. The only thing I have checked is, “Prevent the computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off. Leave the rest unchecked".
    3.  Then go to SCHEDULE Uncheck these,
START UP OR WAKE and SLEEP settings.
    Hit OK
    Exit ENERGY SAVINGS.
Let your monitor turn off, come back later. Sit down and re-try to to turn on your desktop. DON'T click away on your mouse or move it back and forth furiously like you want your desktop to load RIGHT NOW. Well I did that and the system didn't like that and the pink was back. It seems the system needs a few seconds to load up the desktop. Click the mouse button once, or move the mouse a a TINY bit. Wait a bit and the desktop should appear WITH NO PINK SCREEN, hopefully.
    Hope this helps.

I've had the same problem with Cygwin, so I gave a try... looks like the problem is the whitespace after the colours.

  • ITunes Background is PINK???

I am running iTunes version 8.01.11 and since I purchased and registered my new iPod 80GB Classic 3 months ago the background of iTunes is either permanently bright pink (magenta) or an extremely dark grey colour!
I have run every diagnostic that I can find and also re-installed iTunes as well and still the problem has not been resolved.
Any help with a fix or patch for this would be greatly appreciated as it is a very very frustrating problem which makes it difficult to use iTunes properly.
    Cheers,
    Jon

    Try setting 32 bit colour.
