17" CRT Apple Studio Monitor

Unfortunately, I bought a Mini without knowing that my current monitor is unsupported. Are there any work arounds? Has anybody successfully used a 17" CRT Apple Studio monitor with the mini.
Thanks in Advance

You may buy a "DVI to ADC Adapter" from apple.
Yesterday I've bought a Mac mini and I already owned a 17" Studio Display in conjunction with the DVI to ADC, but the "sleep button" on the display is not working. That's why I'm searching this forum.

The symptoms you are experiencing is due to wireless interference. You can always try restoring those other devices, but you might be stuck in a loop. Consider working on your home router, like changing the radio channel to avoid interference. There are many things to lookout for, such as radio interference, physical interference, and router distance.

  • Quad with 2 old Apple Studio monitors 17'' ADC?

    Hello,
I'm almost ready to buy a PowerMac Quad, but I've one problem to solve:
I already have 2 old Apple Studio Display 17'' with ADC connection.
The default video card in the Quad has 2 DVI ports, so I should use 2 Apple DVI to ADC adapters to run my old monitors (I already have one and I can say these adapters are huge, big and reqire power supply).
Is it possible to run the above configuration (2 adapters) without problems or damages?
    Thank you
    PowerMac G4 Dual 1,25

Hi, the problem is a combination of Boot Camp 2.1 and the ADC->DVI box. I've described a solution here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7211956&#7211956
    Basically:
    [1] Plug everything in normally
[2] Boot into Mac OS X
[3] Set brightness to what you want (eg. in System Prefs, or via keyboard)
[4] Unplug the USB cable belonging to the ADC->DVI adaptor (this means anything plugged into the monitor now won't work, so you may need to also move peripherals from the monitor to the mac, or to a USB hub)
[5] Boot into Windows (XP SP2 or SP3 in my case)
[6] cue "I can see clearly now the rain has gone"
    The disadvantages to this are:
[1] You're a USB socket down on the deal (the display gave you 2 but took up 1, now you only have the 1 that it was being plugged into)
[2] To readjust brightness (if you find yourself doing this regularly... I don't) you need to go Mac OS X-> plug cable back in -> adjust brightness -> remove cable -> reboot into XP.
For me (2007 Mac Pro, 23" stripey Apple Cinema Display with ADC->DVI adaptor) it was happening under an ATI 1900XT and also under an Nvidia 8800GT, each time I'd tried reformatting the Windows partition, reinstalling Windows XP etc. Whenever it was Boot Camp 2.0.x it was fine, but adding Boot Camp 2.1 to the party wrecked the brightness. XP SP3 made no difference whatsoever.
Of note, if you'd rather not sacrifice the USB port (it didn't bother me, as 2.1 also made my 802.11n network finally usable under XP, which was more important to me than losing a USB socket), the original poster in the above linked article suggested reinstalling the Boot Camp 2.0 drivers (from the Leopard disc) as an alternative fix (seemingly they'll overwrite anything Boot Camp 2.1 installed, thus "rewinding"). As I say, for me I needed the wireless network so didn't want to go back, but it might work for you as a 2nd route.
I've filed a bug on this, so let's hope the Boot Camp team knock out a fix soon,
    Ken

  • Connect an Apple Studio monitor to mbp?

do i need the bulky and expensive adc adaptor to connect my "older" Apple Studio display to my new MBP?

Sadly yes (I'm in the same position) it needs the power brick/adapter thing ($99) to work with the MBP

  • Help with coating coming off Apple Studio Monitor (17")

Try a product called "GOO GONE". It works on all sorts of sticky substances. It's citrus based and works wonderfully.
Just apply it to a small limited area first, as with anything new, to test its safety. But I've used it on a variety of plastics and NEVER had it cause any damage.

  • IPhone incoming call started studio monitor, but no image

I placed my iPhone about 6" in front of my 15" apple studio monitor. When the phone rang, it activated the power switch on the face of the monitor. The computer started up as if I had touched the power switch, but the screen was black. The cpu powered up, but there is no image on the screen whatsoever. Power button light on the face of the monitor does not flash, it stays lit. If I touch the power button, then the lamp flashes and I can hear the cpu go to sleep. If I touch it again, the cpu comes back to life, the lamp stops flashing, but there is still no image displayed. The machine will not turn off unless I unplug it. Nothing changes after replugging the chord. Touching the power switch restarts the machine, but monitor is still blank. I have no way to try to adjust settings to fix what ever may have been inadvertently changed by the iPhone signal. Anyone have any suggestions???

Check the mute switch near the external volume controls. If orange is showing it is muted.

  • Apple Studio 15" Display Shuts Down Computer

I have a 15" Apple Studio Display Monitor (M2454) that is connected to the port of my G4 Quicksilver.
This morning, the hard drive shut down unexpectedly, and when I pushed the power button on the front of the tower, nothing happened. I first checked the power source, and found that to be working. Then I unplugged all the peripherals, and tried the tower with a different outlet, whereupon it started immediately.
Then I returned the tower to its original location, and plugged everything in again. But once more the hard drive wouldn't respond when I pressed the power button.
So, I unplugged the peripherals one by one, and kept trying to turn on the machine. After I unplugged the USB device which recharges my ipod Nano, the computer finally rebooted. But then when my desktop came up, I found that my cursor was frozen. My USB keyboard was plugged into one of the two ports on the back of the monitor, and my mouse was plugged into the right-hand USB port on the keyboard. So I plugged the keyboard's USB into the monitor's other port, and rebooted the hard drive.
This time, the mouse was not frozen, but a few seconds after the desktop appeared, the hard drive shut down again without warning, and without the ipod device connected. I rebooted several more times, and the same thing happened.
I then disconnected the Apple Studio monitor, and connected an older Sony Trinitron monitor. Whereas the Apple Studio monitor derives its power from the hard drive itself, the Sony monitor can be plugged right into the wall. I then connected my keyboard to a port on the hard drive, and rebooted successfully.
So I'm wondering if anyone has any insights about what's going on here, and I'm also wondering if there's any kind of power adaptor that will allow me to power my Apple monitor from an outlet rather than from the hard drive.
And while we're at it, is there any kind of "extension cord," so to speak, for a USB device? My keyboard doesn't quite reach from the hard driveto where I would like it to be.

That's the way all Mac notebooks work and have worked for some time, regardless of the OS, if the external display is set in extended desktop mode. If set to mirror mode, the MBP should continue to run from battery.
So maybe the difference is not Snow Leopard itself but more the point that in Displays preferences mirror mode has been turned off since the SL update. Does that sound right?

  • My 11 year old Apple studio display died. what is best connection with new monitor

The lCD light finally quit after 12 years. So I bought a very cheap acer /led widescreenS200HQL 19 inch as a cheap quick replacement for my monitor on my  quicksilver G4 933. Question is it is connected to the second display port VGA... Is it worth buying a connector so it can be connected to the larger DVI port(where the apple studio display was connected?) will that make any difference??? Things seem fine but was curious as to the difference???

Many of the Studio displays were ADC. Are you sure that other port is really DVI and not ADC?
My 2004 MDD vid card has one DVI and one ADC connector. I have it connected to a Viewsonic display from about 2007 with both VGA and DVI ports. When I connect the DVI port directly to the DVI port on the G4, the native res looks good but it too small to read (old, tired eyes). If I change the desktop res to make things a little bigger, the image looks like carp--fuzzy and possibly some distortion.
If I use the DVI-to-VGA adapter on the computer and connect it to the monitor. the image is shape and proper at any support desktop res I select.
    You mileage may vary.

  • Can you use Apple Studio Dislpay with MBP?

Thinking about getting the new MBP. I have a 17" Apple Studio Display that I got with my Power Mac years ago. Since the MBP's now have a miniDVI port, can I still use this monitor with it?

If it's an LCD display, use this adapter as well as a mini-DVI to DVI adapter. If it's a CRT display, you can't.

  • Dual ADC Apple Studio Displays (clear acrylic) with Mac Mini

I currently have the old school Apple Studio Display ADC monitor hooked up to my Mac Mini using the ADC to DVI adapter. I have a second Studio ADC Display and another ADC to DVI adapter to run Dual Displays. I just bought a SEE 2 XTREME DVI to USB which is used for adding multiple monitors. I have it all hooked up. Its just basic plug and play after installing the Mac driver. My second monitor power light just flashes and wont turn on...Any suggestions? I already made sure both monitors and both ADC to DVI adapters worked, and they do. Please Help!! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

yea, I checked that out about the light flashes. I have tried both monitors seperately and they both work fine...just not with this DVI to USB dual monitor adapter. Also, when I had them hooked up individually, I made sure the resolution was set the same in the system preferences > displays.

  • DVI to ADC Adapter a 12" Powerbook and an Apple Studio Display 15"

    hello,
i am trying to hook up a 12" powerbook with a DVI to ADC adapter to an Apple Studio Display 15".
i´m just about to buy a used 15" display on ebay.
i was wondering if this is working out together. in the apple store there are two DVI to ADC adapters at different prices and displays supported?
so if anybody could help me out please let me know!!!!
    thank you very much
    regards, g.

    Hi
unfortunately I think the Apple store have sold you the wrong item.
I'm almost certain the DVI to ADC adapter only works with ADC based flat panel displays. DVI ports can output digital or analogue signals (or a combination of the two). The adapter seems to provide digital, which is why it works with the LCD displays, but not analogue, which is why it doesn't work with the CRT displays.
Confusingly Apple did a 17" Studio display both as a CRT and LCD.
Dr. Bott do a similar adapter but they explicitly state it's not compatible with the 17" CRT.
Unfortunately I'm not sure there's a solution, as the display has an ADC connector yet I'm not aware of any adapters available that will work.

  • Why am I getting an intermittent buzz with preamp and studio monitors?

I've just gotten rid of my desktop computer speakers which plug into the mini-headphone audio out on my Macbook Pro (i7, 2.66, mid 2010). Instead, I've connected via firewire 800 to an older 8 ch Presonus Firestudio Project preamp, and have connected a new pair Fostex powered studio monitors to that for my audio (and scratch recording). When I first start playing music in iTunes it all sounds great. But after a while, I'l start to get these periodic loud electronic buzzes. It's not just in the background, it actually will cut off the song to make the loud sound for a brief second. Over time it will become more frequent, and at one point it got to the point that it was just a constant buzz, no audio at all. Unplugging firewire stops it. Since there are a number of components, I'm not sure what is causing the problem. Can anyone help?

The update didn't apply correctly, which will be typically due to an interuption within your setup. You will have to connect to iTunes via micro usb to restore.
