17" display fragments, jitters etc

I have a recurring problem with my 17" Apple Studio display that I'm running on an older G4 Tower. The display starts to fragment, jitter, etc. as I am using it. It seems to happen more when it has been running for some time, esp. when it goes to sleep for hours and I awaken it. If I safe boot it, problem goes away (extention perhaps?) but if I normal boot it, problem recurrs. Eventually it goes away, but no pattern has developed yet. Friend thinks I need a new VGA (?) or video card (I'm a total novice with this stuff). Any ideas or advice GREATLY appreciated.

OK, I feel so stupid I won't go into all the details but figured out someone had messed with f14 and I didn't think to actually check the brightness control on the keyboard. I'm a new MAC user but am loving it more and more as I use it. I'm still learning a few of the "ins & outs" since moving over from the dark side.

When I open FF there is no text displaying(menus, content, etc.), and most of the window is blacked out. For example... I can see the the firefox button on the top left corner, when I go to it the drop down list drops and there is no text, if I move down the drop down I hit where there is a slide out in that drop down and no text is there. So, to start in safe mode you need to go to the firefox button, and click on start in safe mode. I can't See safe mode or click on anything were safe mode should be.

hello, close all firefox windows & hold the shift-key while opening firefox in order to launch it in safemode. in the first dialog just choose "continue in safemode" and go to firefox > options > advanced > general. in there disable hardware acceleration, restart firefox normally again and see if this has changed anything.

I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

Correct startup sequence with external display/keyboard/mouse etc

Most laptop vendors have docking stations or other devices that enable you to use the laptop with the lid closed in conjunction with an external display/keyboard/mouse etc.
Since no such beast exists for the MBP, what is the correct startup sequence for the MBP to do the same thing? Do you plug some parts in first before/after initial power on then others later or what?
Also, the resolution on my external display is much greater than what the MBP provides with its monitor. Will I be limited to comparable resolution on the external monitor or can/will the video card sense and use (to its limits of course) the potential resolution of the external display??

ITunes graphics problem - coverflow displays fragmented image, slows down

I have a new 24" alu iMac and OS X 10.5.3
Yesterday while using multiple programs (iTunes, vmware fusion, photoshop, etc) I hit the keyboard shortcut for "next song" and then suddenly my computer almost froze (it went to the next song and I could move my mouse around the screen but nothing was responding). I waited for a couple of mins and finally things started responding. But when I tried hitting the "next song" button again, it happened again (freezing temporarily).
Finally when it unfroze and I clicked on iTunes, the coverflow display area looked all crazy with fragmented rectangles as if it had corrupted or something. I found someone else having this same problem on the macrumors board but I can't find his post again! ARG!
Someone had suggested it was a bad GPU... but I don't have any other problems and I find it weird that it would happen to two people within a week of each other. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Could you please send some screenshots so that we can better understand the situation.

PO Version Number not available in PO List displays (ME2L, ME2K, etc)

I have configured PO Version Management. My PO's are working as desired with proper output.
However, the PO Version Number is not displayed in my PO List Display tcodes (ME2L, ME2K, etc) nor is it available to add to the layout. I have configured the Scope of List for "BEST" (PO's) to include change documents. However, there is nothing when I go to ME2L for a PO that has 15 versions. I have verified that EKKO does contain the latest version number for this PO.
Have I missed a config step??

Thank you - I did post in MM once I realized I posted in SRM.
I realize that only the current version is displayed in these transactions. But I need to see the actual version number - no the history - just the current version number. We use these reports to supply our Internal Auditors with PO Data and they require to see the PO # and Version # without having to actually pull up each PO individually in the system.
I had assumed that since they use EKKO and EKKO contains REVNO that REVNO would be available in my layout and I could simply add it to the report. However, this is not the case.

CDHDR - Header Change
CDPOS - Item Change
EREV - Version Change
Tables with help of ABAPer.

IMac Display is jittering or subtly flickering

i just bought a iMac off of eBay. 2ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. One of the white ones from i think three years ago.
the last couple of days the display has started to faintly have those ghost lines jittering. i wish i knew the best way to describe this.. it isn't related to the hard drive, because it happens on both of mine- external and internal.
i'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, if it is a known issue, and if there is any fix for it. thanks

Try closing the Scrabble app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Scrabble app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Scrabble app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If neither of the above fix it then you could try deleting it and re-sync or re-download it via the Purchased tab.

Dv6 - Activating external display for BIOS etc (pre-windows)

G'day All,
Can anyone help me work out how to get a Pavilion dv6 (dv6-3236NR / LK469UA#ABA) to send BIOS display output to an external VGA monitor? (ie. not just within windows)
I would consider it success if you can do the following => connect an external monitor (via VGA), remove all power, power back on, all display is showing up on external monitor, hit F10, can see BIOS on external monitor.
I can do this for the Probook 6460b - It is just a case of connecting an external monitor, hitting ESC to stop at the startup menu, Fn-F4 and then close lid. I can then drop/re-add power, boot (via WOL) and all display shows up on the external monitor. I can't get it to work on a dv6
The reason we need to be able to do this is to allow us to rebuild these laptops at a remote site using an IP KVM with Power control (as we do for servers with iLO's). Worked perfectly with 6460b.

Thanks Mumbodog. I haven't found any successful posts yet either (most people trying to do this have a broken laptop display).
The one exception is the following page which includes a photo of the BIOS from an external monitor.

Help! Screen won't display title, artist etc only Now Playing.

Hope you can help. I've only had my nano for a few days and it was great to start with, but when I'm playing music the screen will only display Now Playing and the album cover and the centre button does not do anything at all. Any suggestions?

Try re-setting it first:
1) Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2) Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

TV out doesn't display avi, mpg, etc

I'm trying to use a Ge-Force FX-5200 128 meg to display videos on a tv using TV out. Everything gets displayed on the TV monitor but actual video files don't show up (for example, I can see the media player window but its just black inside). Of course, the video file is playing on the computer monitor just fine. Do I need another video player (other than windows media player) or is something else wrong? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I did both those things and it worked. It seems to work different than my old ATI all in Wonder which displayed to both the monitor and the TV. With the Ge-Force, I get only one or the other but maybe I just haven't fiddled with it enough.

What is the definitive settings for MTU, Beacon Interval, Fragmentation, RTS etc

I'm getting frequent disconnects on my new E2000. Particuallrily if I'm streaming video or connected to my companies VPN on my wireless laptop. I've seen a number of other people have similar issues and the fix seems to be to tweek a few different settings. I'm comfortable doing this but each of the "Network Admins" seems to post a different set of values that seem to be randomly distributed around some normals.
How can I figure out what are the best settings for me?
Wireless I have
-2 Laptops (wireless G)
-PS3
-Nintendo DSi
Wired which probably doesn't factor in but for completeness I have a desktop PC.

Wless problem is usually because of interference/interruptions which can usually be solved by setting a better channel.
Try it first.
If problem cannot be solved by changing channels, upgrade the router
if all fails, you can change your beacons to 50 RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304
