17"display with extern power supply won´t work

Hi there,
my second display a 17"apple studio display (CRT with VGA) just works every now and then. Can´t locate what´s wrong, I already changed the graphic card, no result. In system profiler both displays are listed mostly, also in the display menue on the topbar, though as soon as I tell to recognize the displays only the main display remains. The 17" display has the extern power supply, but it´s a original apple as well. Thought it might be a bad contact, but can´t find anything. Living here in spain I nearly have no chance to check the display by a dealer. I would be grateful for some help, Michael.

  • Powering down display with external power supply

I am using a 23" display with an old PowerMac G4 from 1998 with an upgraded video card and external power supply.
Is there any way to power off the monitor without powering down the computer? Ideally I'd like this to happen automatically based on my system prefs, but apparently the external power supply precludes this.
As a "workaround", I've created a screen saver that displays a black image. Does this actually save any energy and/or extend the life of my display?
    Thanks,
    - Michael

    Hi Michael,
    Welcome to the discussions.
You can install an on-off switch on the power lead to the external power supply (actually, it's safer to have a qualified electrician do this, as you are dealing with a mains power supply). I have this system for my ADC 15" Display, and it works fine.
A black screen saver will not extend the life of your monitor. Screen savers were meant to mitigate the "burn in" effect that happens with CRT displays (and which doesn't happen with LCD displays). If the display is still on, the backlights will still be functioning and they are the finite life component of the LCD display that you need to look after. Also, because the LCD's themselves use so little energy, there will not be much energy saving.
It's more appropriate to "sleep" the display. You can do this (via Energy saver settings in System Preferences) without having to "sleep" the entire computer. This will turn off the backlights and significantly extend the life of the display.
(I'm presuming you are using OS X - you haven't supplied any details regarding your system. :))
    Cheers!

  • NI WSN 3212 takes incorrect measurement with external power

    Hi, all.
I have a problem with temperature measurement using NI WSN 3212 node with external power supply. The value randomly changes for all four channels. It happens if at least one thermocouple connected to any channel. If I disconnect all thermocouples, the values of channels are NaN. I have not this problem when node powers by battery.

    Hi,
    1. Check for the correct power cord that you have attached with the node to give the external power.
    2. Check for any external power supplied to the channels from your side.
    3. Reboot the node and try to obtain the temperature from thermometer.

  • FireWire / MacBook Pro / External 7200 rpm Drive / External Power Supply / Daisychaining

I would like to use FireWire from my MacBook Pro to an external 7200 rpm drive (Fantom GreenDrive Quad with FireWire capability) that uses an external power supply.  Are there any issues with using the external power supply?  I read in an archived Mac forum regarding Thunderbolt that there might be (for Thunderbolt, which I'm not using).  The archived info wasn't entirely clear to me as to whether it meant not to power up (turn on or plug in) an external power supply for a daisychained device while the MacBook was on or the daisychain had devices in use, say, or whether it meant don't use (daisychain) any devices that use external power supplies.
Once that question is resolved (about FireWire relative to the external power supply for the external hard drive), my next question is, Can I safely daisychain also? If so, what protocol would I use for that, relative to the power supply for each daisychained hard drive?

I have had no issues using daisychained FireWire 800 external drives with leaving the drives turned on, power supplies on, and restarting my MBP.  The MBP starts up and sees the drives and runs fine.

  • NI USB 8451 with external power source

    Hello everyone !
I try to figure for 2 days now why my USB 8451 gave me an error 301740 : SDA or SCL line or both are in a low state or there are no pull-up resistor.
I try to change a multiplexer channel in order to obtain a temperature mesurement from a sensor. I checked my SDA and SCL lines, thye're both in high state and i have 2 pull-up resistors with a value of 10K.
The only change with my older circuit is that  i use an external power supply for my electronic chip and a MUX PCA9543(texas instruments) to select the sensor of which i need the data .
Does anyone have encountered similar issues ?

    Ok guys,
apparently, the ground of my usb 8451 wasn't connected to the ground of my power supply, it is not working yet but my components are responding !

  • Navigator Car Kit External Power Supply

Has anyone figured out a way to fit the Navigator 6 car kit (Palm GPS Car Kit is model 3224NA) with an external power supply?  I 'd like to use the unit in other places besides my car.
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

On the iPod there are two ways to get power into it. On the dock connector there are power input pins for USB and power input pins for Firewire. USB is +5V while Firewire is often +12V but can be a lot higher. On the Firewire pins you can input over 30V. What I am not sure about is if you can input more than 5V on the USB power pins since USB is standardized at 5V but that doesn't mean the iPod can't accept more on those pins.
Anyway, the automobile connection is very likely wired up to deliver the +12V car battery voltage to the Firewire power pins of your iPod Classic and that is normal/acceptable.

  • I have new hard drive in macbook pro(08) and have SATA cable with external power source to old hard drive (10.5.8)via. USB port and newer drive(10.6.8) will not recognize older drive..Do I need to partition newer drive with older disk to recover data?

I have new HD 750GB Hybrid in 2008 Macbook Pro 17" w/ Snow Leopard 10.6.8  connected to old Hard drive(250GB that had 10.5.8 on it at time of failure) via SATA cable to USB port with external power source.. Computer not acknowledging old HD at all in Disk Utility or otherwise (that I'm aware of)..Do I need to partition New HD and load old(10.5.8) onto partition to recognize older drive for data recovery? Thanks Wayno08

You do not need to load 10.5.8 onto your new drive in order for a 10.6.8 system to see the contents of a 10.5.8 system.
You might want to check out the hard drive troubleshooting bootk in the downloads section of this web site:

They also sell a product named Phoenix that can do OS extraction  and volume copying/cloning, but to be honest I don't know if it's appropriate in this case.
    I would suggest the following:
Open up Terminal.app (under utilities) and type "diskutil list" without the quotes. This is the command line version of Disk Utility. If the external drive doesn't show up at all, then it's likely not connected properly, not getting power, or just plain dead. If it shows up with only a devce name like disk0s16 but no volume it means the drive is seen, the OS just can't make sense of it.
Assuming the drive shows up, I would try to boot off the original installl disks for the system and run Disk Utility from that. I'm assuming the drive will show up. You'll want to select the option to repair the drive and then perform the option to repair the permissions.
If the unit isn't showing up, as per step 1, try a different USB port. More importantly with your unit, try it on another side of the unit if possible. If you read the book I referenced above, some of those units have I/O boards that are separated from the logic board. If the cable from the logic board to the I/O card goes bad or has problems, which isn't all that uncommon, some or all of the ports on the I/O card may appear to be bad as well. If you use a USB port on another side, it would be routing out of a completely different I/O path, so that's a potential problem.
If the drive is only seen with a device name such as disk0s16, it's likely either the index files are corrupt beyond Disk Utility's ability to see them. The  only thing that I think would help would be a product named DIsk Warrior, but I can't guarantee that.
Disk Warrior can be found at:
    http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
The company that I linked in the first link above also makes a product named Scannerz that does HD and system testing. The Scannerz/Disk Warrior combination make a good pair because the complement each other....Scannerz does what Disk Warriror can't and Disk Warrior does what Scannerz can't. However, at this point I'm not too sure getting a tool like Scannerz would be of much use because it sounds like the  damage has already been done.
    Let us know what happens.

The issue that I come across is if T440s starts up on battery, as soon as the external power supply is connected, the keyboard stops responding, as well as mouse. if I disconnect external power supply, both keyboard and mouse function as usual.
If start up on external poewr supply, it seems to be OK.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello Hans -
Taking a look a the PrecisionHD Camera User Guide on pg 9, the 2.5x camera does have a power supply connector just like the 4x and 12x cameras.  It does say the power supply connector is For future use, so it doesn't seem like it supports an external PSU at this time.

  • Helix only works with external power

    Hello
Just received my Helix and I have some issue, one of the biggest issue so far is that it will only power up and stay on with external power, when I dock it it works fine, if I undock it it will shut down, if I plug the power cord to the tablet it will power on but as soon as I remove the power cord it will shut down, I have checked and the batteries are 100% charged, any advice ?

Thanks for the reply, I called Lenovo tech support and they thought it was the mother board, the tech changed it and it did the same he suspected a faulty battery, he replaced that and it works great now, so it was a faulty battery on the tablet it was not getting charged, Lenovo tech support was great, quick and very apologetic, love the laptop so far, thanks for all the help.

  • No internet with external power on L20

Can connect to internet when my L20 runs off own power pack, but when battery level goes low and asks for external power, internet connection is lost when my mains power adaptor attatched. Also, internet will not connect if external power supply is used from the outset. Disconnect external power and run on battery pack, internet connection can now take place !! Any thoughts.

Try checking that the polarity of the dc power coming out of the ac adapter is correct. In fact check that you have any dc voltage coming out of the adapter.
I don't really understand what you're describing. Are you really saying that ONLY the internet connection is affected. That everything else is working ok on mains power. The power and disk indicator lights are all on; the battery charges up ok; the screen is lit; the fan is running and that these things will continue to work if you then removed the battery? (Except the battery charging of course).

  • IMac went totally black. No power to the unit. Have there been issues with the power supply?

My iMac went totally went black tonight when my grandchildren were using the iMac. I can't power it up? Have there been issues with the power supply?

It may just be the power cord (between the mains and the computer).   If you have an Apple store or Authorised store near you, take the cord in and check it out.  Indeed, check if it has been partly pulled out by pressing it firmly into the back of the computer.

  • Fireware Update, NO EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY! Im stuck!

OK so I just updated my ipod mini, now it says that I need to plug it into the external power supply. only one problem.... I don't know where it is. I lost it a while back and now I cant do anything on the ipod. Computer doesn't even acknowlege its in until i will update it fully by plugging in the power supply! plz help me. thanx

    Shaun,
If this is a first gen mini and you updated via a usb connection, then you need to complete the update via the charger. No way around this.
Beg/borrow one, or visit an Apple store?

  • How much time ipod needs to restore after plugging with external power?

how much time ipod needs to restore after plugging with external power?

Restore? Do you mean power on after it's been drained for awhile? It depends how long it's been dead. Sometimes it can take awhile (10-20 minutes maybe more) in some cases.

  • Help for beginner: Need labview signal to power on =2 actuators of 8 with one power supply

I am a beginner in using labview. I need to use labview signal to turn on >=2 ac 8 actuators with one power supply. The 24VDC, 0-3A power supply is enough to drive all 8 actuators which need 24VDC and 0.1A current. So the main function is like turning on 2 or more than 2 switches in series with the 8 actuators with one power supply. Any suggestion of some simple module for this purpose? Thanks.

Maybe I didn't say the question clear. I have one power supply (24VDC, 0-3A) and 8 solenoid valves (24VDC and 0.1A). Two valves (or more than two in future) have to be activated each time. I would like to find something that can work like switches installed in series with the valves. Then I can wire the valves (with the switches) in parallel with the power supply. As I turn the switches on and off with signals from Labview board, power to that specific valve will be turned on and off.
Any advice for this kind of switches or any module that can be controlled by Labview signal? Please help! Thanks.
