17 inch late 2011 MBP with no sound from right speaker (Help)

Hello community,
I purchased a new MBP 17inch model and noticed sound only comes from one speaker.  I've checked the system preferences and moved the balance 100% to the right and no sound at all.  I don't believe this is normal, but before I make a case I wanted to speak with the community first. All responses are appreciated Thank you.

Before you take it in, try resetting Pram.

After upgrading to yosemite my macbook pro late 2011 does a random sound from time to time. Its completely random and i already checked all apps in use and its not from them.

    Sounds like Notifications app.
Maybe some other app. In SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems tab: remove all entries with the minus sign underneath. This will not uninstall anything, you have to start those apps by hand now. Restart.
    Still there?
Yes: Restart again while holding the shift key, this will start the mac in SafeMode: only the necessary items are loaded to run.
    Still there?
Yes: Make an etrecheck list and post it here.
No: Restart, put the items in the LoginItems back, one by one, restart after each entry, and you will find the "culprit"
Please report accordingly. I will be back in 24 hours.

  • No sound from right speaker on Pavilion g6-1353ea after installing Windows 8

I've had no sound from right speaker on my HP Pavilion g6-1353ea after installing Windows 8. I've checked all drivers, and have done the sound test in sound properties (left speaker beeps fine, but then nothing from the right). Anyone else having this problem/found a solution?!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59154.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio in both speakers.

  • Popping sound from right speaker only of imac

I recently bought a (refurbished) September 2013 model imac 21.5".  Looks great, but only one problem when I play any audio/ video, streamed or local, there come a clicking and popping sound from the right side only. Sounds like fireworks from a distance.  No such noise through headphone.  I tried all solutions suggested on different forums.  No success.  Can someone out there help, before I decide to take it to the apple store or return it?

  • Hissing sound from right speaker

I've read through the threads about processor and hard disk hiss. I don't think this is that same issue. When I boot under AC or battery, I get a 5 second hissing from the right speaker. As soon as the desktop comes up, the hissing stops. If I am on AC, that's the last time I hear it, but on battery, I get the hissing noise any time something makes a sound (Adium, iTunes playing an MP3 or a CD, etc.) Is this a driver problem or hardware?
    -Z

I called SmallDog tech support; John had me do a PRAM reset, as well as a power management reset (remove battery and AC, hold down power button for 10 seconds.) Problem remains. Booted to XP, hiss came up during XP logo, but now it won't boot to Windows (might have something to do with the reset.) Told me to remove the additional RAM I had added when I bought it, still hisses on boot. Next step I guess is taking it to SmallDog for repair.

  • Crackling sound from right speaker - Envy 14 Beats edition

The right speaker on my Envy 14 Beats edition has a crackling/static sound when playing any sort of sound from it.  I assumed it was a faulty speaker since its just the right speaker..  I've talked to HP support and they had me send it in.
After two weeks I got it back only to find that they simply changed some audio configurations in an attempt to fix it.  Nothing has changed and the problem still exists.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there is some sort of fix for this without me having to send it back to them to replace the speaker.

Hello tedebare73.  I understand your notebook is making a weird sound from the left speaker.
Are there any other electronic devices (guitar amplifiers, cell phones, speakers) around the notebook?  These can all cause very strange noises.
Try hard resetting the notebook as well.  Here are the steps.
    Shut down the notebook.
Remove the battery and AC power.
Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds three times.
Replace the battery and AC power.
    Verify whether the problem persists.
Finally, if neither of the above have an effect try removing and reinstalling the driver.  Here are instructions.
    Go to your Device Manager.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."
Reboot the notebook.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
    Verify whether the problem persists.
Let me know the results.  Have a wonderful day!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • Considering going from late 2011 MBP to MBA. Seeking advice on performance.

I currently have a late 2011 MBP with 4GB RAM, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 and am running into some performance issues. My main issue is that it takes time to switch between apps and sometimes to open a new tab in chrome. I have a lot of apps open for work purposes and I'm thinking the slowness could be due to not having enough RAM. When I look at Activity Monitor>System Memory, I see that I have about 1GB in Inactive, 1 GB in Active, and 2 GB in Wired. Then I'm seeing 5.62GB of swap used (that doesn't seem good).
I like how compact the MBAs are and am thinking of getting either the i5 or i7 with 8GB of RAM. I'm thinking that the increase in RAM as well as the flash storage would help with the type of slowness I'm seeing, but would hate to buy it only to have the same problems.
I would love to get some advice on this.

I HAD the same 2011 MBP you have, and HAVE the current Macbook AIR,....theres almost no comparison between the two. You should possibly go use one for a bit at the Apple store etc, however regarding your question "will it be a difference/ big upgrade" the answer is of course yes,....definately so.

  • Macbook Pro 13-inch Late 2011 with constant Spinning Wheel of Death (SWOD)

    Hi Guys!
I really have a problem with the Spinning Wheel of Death and slow performance all the time. It suddently started after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.
These are the things i've tried so far:
    - Boot up in Safe Mode and Internet Recovery Mode to repair disc permissions and disc = No Errors found at all
    - Used SMARTreporter but everything returned as OK
    - Installed 16GB of ram installed
    - Looked in Activity Monitor, but everything appears to be okay with both RAM, CPU and HD
    - Boot with Apple Hardware Test = Everything OK
    - Booted up in Internet Recovery and erased the entire HD, clean installed OS X Lion (the OS i bought the Macbook Pro with)
First i thought it was a problem with my HD or my RAM. But everything is returning the OK result. I really hope some of you out there can help me, cause right now its realy hard to use it at the University. It looks like its a software problem, but i can't figure it out.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. It will be slow, but there should be no beachballing. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Cant get full HD on my LED TV using a MBP 13 inch late 2011.

    Hi!
I tryed to connect my MBP to a full HD LED TV and I cant get 1080p res. In fact, I tryed differents resolution but no one seems to be the right one.
A friend connect her MBP 13 inch mid 2009 (NVIDIA GeGorce 9400M) and has no problem. Both computers were connected to the LED TV thru a HDMI-Thunderbolt cable.
Is there any app that can resolve this? Does my computer supports full HD res?? Do I have to change the Graphic video card?
    PLZ HELP!

    Hello yainfarbman,
Thank you for all the information you provided about the issue.  If you look at the Technical Specifications of your MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP645), you can see that your computer should support the 1080p resolution:
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
If you are using mirroring, your Mac will attempt to match the closest resolution between the primary (or built-in) and secondary displays.  You won't have to change any hardware on your computer, but you may need to set it up as an extended desktop for the 1080p resolution to be available.  You can find the steps here to set the resolution when using the TV under the section titled "Extended desktop":
How to use multiple displays with your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5019
I hope this article helps you take advantage of the 1080p resolution of your HD LED TV.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • HT4241 No signal on external monitor with HDMI on MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)

HI i have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011). some days ago i connected it to my LG plasma 60" with HDMI. i used the DVI --> HDMI converter from apple. the it worked fine and i could se films om the tv. but now nothing happens when i connect the mac. help??

    Hello,
I had this problem with y Macbook Air and an Asus LED monitor 21.5". The very first time I tried the two together, it worked perfectly. The second time it didn't work and I tried different things to make that "No HDMI signal" go away.
The only thing that worked for me was connecting both devices OFF, once connected I turned the monitor ON first and then started my Macbook Air.
I really hope this helps some of you.
    Good luck

  • MacBook Pro (15 -inch, Late 2011) with SATA II SSD by Apple?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro (15 -inch, Late 2011), ordered in April 2012, with a 512GB SSD. This is an original Apple branded Toshiba SSD and chosen on order.
Now I found out that it is only a SATA II SSD which is connected to the SATA 6G Chipset port.
I called the Hotline, just to clarify if it is normal to build in older standards or by accident. The guy told me, that his hardware supervisor mentioned, that it is impossible to run a SATA II SSD on a SATA 6G port which is totally nonsense. I'm a litte bit confused about the statement and would like to know if anybody else with an original SSD, ordered with a late 2011 MacBook Pro, has build in such old stuff.
    Kind regards,
    Michael

No read/write issues, just the question why apple build in a "slower" SSD than the controller is capable of.
Would be faster with a SATA 6Gb SSD particularly when you have to run four virtual machines at the same time.

  • Graphics issues with MacBook Pro 15-inch Late 2011 model

I have a MB Pro 15-inch late 2011 (2.4GHz Core i7) and recently I started to get random screen glitches while working on photoshop and illustrator and then eventually the screen went totally blank and so I paid to have the graphics chip replaced (as I was out of warranty).
After 2 weeks, the same glitches have started again so I did some internet research and discovered that that there are thousands of other people around the world who had similar issues in this particular model range that uses the AMD Graphics chipset (Radeon HD 6770M) combined with the Intel HD Graphics 3000 on the same motherboard.
Does anyone know if Apple has announced a recall / replacement programme for this model as it appears to be a widespread issue ?
    Thanks
    Rohit

There is an online campaign at change.org which has crossed 10,000 signatories (or is about to) that should prove that there is an issue.
From my analysis, the problem is the AMC Radeon GPU that is the problem - there is some compatibility issue with the logic board. I just paid to get the problem solved, but it has come back again in less than a a week. I installed gfcCardStatus to control which graphics chips are being used and found that when the Intel HD chipset is used, there is no issue, but when it switches to the AMD chipset, the problem returns.
There is certainly an issue and it's widespread and I am sure that this will come back to bite apple in the ***...
I think their issue is probably that the fault lies in AMD's chips and not their circuitry which is probably why they don't want to bear the cost of a recall program unless AMD contribute to the costs...which they won't because Apple have pretty much stopped using AMD GPUs and use nVidia instead now.
Anyway, I'm going to go back to the repair folks and have them re-fix the issue as it's covered by their warranty. Let me know if you have any more luck on your end.

  • Problems with Late 2011 MBP (catalog corrupt, won't boot from USB/CD)

    Hello,
I have had some problems with my Late 2011 MBP running OSX 10.8.x (latest update)
I was using Safari when suddenly my screen froze. It has happened a couple of times before but it usually is either: 1.) a black screen for 5 seconds while nothing works responds and then it continues work like nothing happened, or 2.) just a freeze for a moment which goes away within a few seconds. I have visited the official service and they found nothing wrong with my laptop and said that it may have been just random occurrence. This time it froze and as I waited the fans went crazy and had no other option but to shut down from the power button. Later, when I wanted to boot up, it gets to the Apple logo, the circle spins and the small bar below appears and after a second or two, it disappears and then the computer shuts down. I went to recovery mode and used disk utility to verify and repair the problem (which only works to find out the problem, not to fix it, thanks anyway apple) Heres what it showed:

I tried to boot DiskWarrior from a USB and a CD, after pushing enter in the bootable device's screen, I get a continuous loop of 3 beeps and I can't boot from either of the mediums.
I also tried the Single-user mode (Command-s when booting) and the /sbin/fsck -fy said that my HD is not completely verifiable. Also, 3/4 of the files mentioned in disk utility are also mentioned in this process, with errors as forrows: keys out of order, invalid index key, invalid extent entries (7 times), incorrect block counts, number of links and incorrect sizes for the foretold files and invalid catalog record type.
The reason why I'm not doing a clean install is that the last few days I've been in the process of deleting unnecessary items on my laptop so I could make a back-up (as for some reason, Time Machine is awfully slow and a new 600 gb backup would take and enormous amount of time, but that's a problem for another day) and as I had not yet reached the backing up part, my data is locked on this (possibly) corrupt HD. How should I advance and what steps should I take?
My first and most important mission would be to get back into my OS to make a back-up. Then I'd deal with the "not being able to boot form USB nor CD" and the TM problem.
    Thank you all in advance,

Before you even start, consider that there may be no Windows 7 driver support for some of the hardware in your laptop. You won't know which hardware devices and functions are unsupported until you find out the hard way. In some cases, a driver conflict could cripple your computer.
Like most OEMS, Toshiba pre-installs Windows 8 to boot with EFI on a GPT hard drive. Your Windows 7 install disc, on the other hand, most likely boots with a BIOS from an MBR. Therefore, your Windows 7 disc will not boot your computer.
You would need to start by performing a low-level format of your hard drive. This completely erases the disc and its metadata. Then you could boot from your Windows installation disc and try to install Windows 7. How successful you will be depends on driver support.
All things considered, you should stay with Windows 8. Next time, more research before you buy.

Download and intall the Windows Support software. You can start Bootcamp Assistant again and only select the option to download the support software. Then follow the instructions to save and install the support software.
Or, manually download the support software here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/downloads/.
