17 inch macbook pro not getting anything close to 8 or even 7 hours?

hello its been over a week now and i have not gotten anything close to the advertised 7 hour battery life. i dont have the other graphics card on and im only doing web browsing. on a full charge i wont get more then 3 in a half maybe 4 hours... is something wrong is the battery spose to warm up for a couple of charges before i see anything close to what its spose to be?
if anyone else is having this problem please reply idk if im the only one who isn't seeing 7 hours.
thanks i figure if this problem doesn't fix itself i have 5 days to take it in for a replacement machine.

I'd advise checking your processes in System Monitor and see if there is anything using up an inordinate CPU load. A number have people have found they have background tasks (or in one case, a driver/supplicant) that are chewing on their batteries in the background.

As Tom said the FCS forum is the better place to post the question.
Here is Apple's best practices doc for installing both on the same system.

  • MacBook Pro not getting me to web or email...

Macbook works fine. Macbook Pro is "connected" to my wireless network, but I cannot get to web or run email. Apple specialists tried and finally suggested I take it to an Apple store. Any ideas? Thanks.

After doing and SMC reset and a PRAM reset I discovered that the issue was infact my bluetooth mouse being turned on in my book bag which wouldn't allow me to scroll. Thank you for your help though!

  • MacBook Pro not loading anything (grey screen) on startup..

After turning on my brother's MacBook Pro, only a grey background with an Apple symbol and a loading wheel pops up. After a little bit, the Apple symbol switches to a sort of 'x' sign (a circle with a line through it.) Help?
    Thanks!

You need to start the MacBook with the original DVD that came with he computer then run disk utility on the hard drive to repair it.

  • Late 2011 17 Inch MacBook Pro Not Booting, Three Beeps When I hold "C"

my late 2011 mbp 17 inch will not boot. In safe mode with verbose it stops at the point looking for my hard drive.  Disk utility in single user mode  said the SSD has "keys out of order" and could not verify disk etc.
However when I hold "c" aka trying to boot off my optical drive with Snow Leopard in it...it beeps three times, which after searching everyone seems convinced it's memory but I took out my upgraded memory that was in it and put the factory 4gig (2x2gb) sticks back in and it's the same exact thing...three beeps when holding "c".
If I hold nothing my computer shows the apple logo, the spining boot up activity icon, AND a progress bar at the bottom that get's about 1/6th of the way doing whatever it's doing and then it instantly shuts down.
Any other ideas besides the idea that my logic board that is 1 year old randomly stopped working? It's just weird that my 9 month old SSD is not being recognized while at the same time, holding "C" to try and call my optical drive to boot I get three beeps.

Three beeps means a RAM problem - bad RAM.

  • MacBook Pro is getting very slow after ~1h of using. It's not even getting hot!

    MacBook Pro 15'
    early 2011
    OS X 10.9 (13A603) Maverics
    2 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512  MB
+my battery is dead and Im using cable all the time
When I turn ON my Macbook everything is OK, but after ~1h of doing whatever (surfin on net, listetning iTunes or watching movies) it's suddenly getting super slow. After that even scrolling down the websites is lagging and watching movies from HDD is impossible (glitchy and low fps). Macbook is not getting hot at all. Normal restarting doesn't work - it's slow as it was before (I need to wait long time to turn in ON again). Yesterday I decided to restart the SMC (Control+Option+Shift+Power Button) and after restarting Macbook it was OK again for another 1h.
    I've already tried:
    - cleaning with Clean my Mac 2
    - scan with ClamXav
    - restarting SMC

I'm updating OS X right now (downloading).

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

    Hello charlgilbert,
It sounds like you would like to send a text from your phone number on your portable computer. You can do this by setting iMessage to start new conversations from your phone number in the Messages settings:
On OS X, find out which addresses are enabled:
In Messages, choose Messages > Preferences > Accounts.
From: iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime           and iMessage

You can't install the App Store version of Mavericks because your model needs a special version. If you ever need to reinstall it, boot into Recovery.

If you're unable to turn it on, let alone even charge it then it definitely sounds like a battery issue to me. I'd wait for someone else to reply just to be sure but I think somehow the battery by the sounds of it must have died. However, I could be very wrong.
If you're still under applecare which you should be then it should be an easy free fix. Hope this helps!
