17" MacBook Pro lion 10.7.4 showing no display
I've just updated my 2007 17" MacBook Pro to the latest 10.7.4 and it now detects no displays and shows a blank screen. I can log in fine using a remote screen connection and the machine seems to be functioning perfectly (other than having no display).
I did manage to boot once using a SafeBoot and that seemed to start fine, but subsequent attempts to boot result in a black screen. This happens on both mains and battery power.
Looking, via a remote screen, I see that there are no displays listed under the system info. and the onboard GPU present, but not the NVidia card. Either way, no display.
Any thoughts?
Just did a 'blind' restore ('what', you ask, 'is a blind restore?' It's a restore done without being able to see the screen because OS X Lion 10.7.4 messed up the display—see above.)
Anyway, managed to restore the system to 10.7.3 and everything is now working fine.
Moral of this story...
If you have a 2007 17" MacBook Pro, think twice before upgrading to 10.7.4. It may work, but if you're like me, it won't.

Hi, my macbook pro 15" retina late 2013 displays screen resolution as 3360*2100 in the system report. As we all know that the 15" model of late 2013 macbook pro has the maxmium resolution as 2880*1800. So is there anyone has a clue?
Odd. Set the current resolution to "Best for Retina."
Start up in Safe Mode
Then reboot normally. Same issue? -
Can I install iDVD (only) from an iLife 11 CD on a new (late 2011) on-line MacBook Pro/Lion purchase that no longer included it?
Purchasing iLife 11 on disk is an easy thing to do. ILife 11 will include iDVD.
If you have iDVD on another Macintosh you can transfer it to your new computer. That procedure has been discussed here many times, if you do a search you will find that procedure. -
*Everything* disappeared from my sidebar except for my MacBook Pro icon, which is still showing under "Devices".

I had checked Finder Preferences to make sure everything was still checked, and it was. But as a result of your suggestion I decided to go back and uncheck them, relaunch Finder, restart my MacBook Pro, and re-check them. That didn't actually change anything, BUT, in moving my cursor around the sidebar I discovered there is a "show/hide" button to the right of the word Favorites which only shows up when you hover over it (a bad design imo) and I must have somehow clicked on it and pouf! All disappeared! So, thank you! I would not have discovered that absent your suggestion. All is now showing in my sidebar again.

Have you updated your itunes to the latest version? You have to have itunes to sync the phone to any computer.

if you are using a SAFARI you don't need to install a flash player, it comes insatlled already, you can check that on safari toolbar.
Help>Installed Plug-ins> and then check for shockwave flash player etc.
i have a early 2011 macbookpro and have never needed to install any flash payer unlike on windows.
that's if your are using safari.

Aperture 2 on Macbook Pro (LIon)
I use Aperture 2 on my iMac (snow leopard).
I bought a new MacBook Pro (Lion) and want to put
Aperture 2 on the Macbook then upgrade to Aperture 3.
The Macbook won't take it. Tells me Aperture is not compatible.
I need a photo organizer/editor for the MacBook and if aperture 2 won't
work, does anyone have another suggestion as to what I can do or use.
I'd rather not use full Photoshop (too expensive) and I'm told that
Photoshop Elements 10 will not read Apertures photo library.

It seems Aperture 2 is not compatible with the Lion (OS 10.7.1)
You need Aperture 3 (no surprise there).
You can download Aperture 3 from the app store for $80.
Aperture 2's library will be recignized by the Mark 3 program and will be
updated to work with Aperture 3 ...which will make it unuseable by Aperture 2.
upshot is .... if you upgrade to Apert 3 ..you gotta do it on all your computers
or not at all.
actively looking at Photoshop Elements 10 instead. At least that way I can use the same program on all my ,machines and download from one to the other without compatibility problems. -

Pay no attention to iinami, the amount of replies to people saying their handsets must have been jailbroken everytime iTunes throws out an error is tremendous. (Clearly you don't need to have any real knowledge to get to level 3 on these forums, let's hope apple's geniuses know a lot more than some of their customers.)

The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That has worked for some, but is not guaranteed to work for all.
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with Lion. You have to buy iLife 11 from online Apple Store in order to get iDVD. You are strongly recommended to do so soon as it will not be available for much longer. -
MacBook Pro continues to reboot then shows main screen with flickering green and white lines then restarts again what the heck is wrong with it?!

You could try updating your apple TV and then restarting it. Bit of a guess.

Boot into Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot can take a few minutes compared to a normal boot.
Once you are in Safe Mode open System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items
If you have anything listed there to launch when you startup your Mac, delete all items.
Then go to the Apple menu / Restart.
You can also use Safe Mode to do a "live verification" of the startup disk in case it needs repairing.
