17" MacBook Pro - Phillips 40" LCD TV 120 HZ Capable

I have been hooking up my 17" Macbook Pro to a Phillips LCD TV capable of 120 HZ refresh rate. I am connecting the computer to the TV with an HDMI-DVI with the apple Mini-DVI adapter. Everything that is shown on the TV seems to delay just enough to notice it.
For example, if I mirror the displays there is a split second delay from the pictures on the MacBook monitor to the Phillips TV. When watching movies, the MacBook will cut away from a scene just a hair before the Phillips picture will. This causes the audio to be off from the actual pictures just slightly.
I am a graphic designer and like the extra space, but it is hard to manage putting things on the other screen because it has such a delay. The mouse is hard to operate because I am trying to compensate for the delay.
Anyone have any suggestions. These are the settings I have for the Phillips TV and Display Prefs.
Phillips TV Settings
120 HZ refresh rate: OFF (It will not allow me to turn it on so it defualts to 60 HZ)
MacBook Display Prefs
60 HZ (NTSC)
1080p
Rotation Standard
Overscan: On
I've tried everything from changing the HDMI port I'm using to changing the resolution of the screen.
Is there anyway to fix this?
Thanks,
Chris

Usually there is a GAME mode on modern TVs. It turns off all the "features" that can cause latency in the pipeline to the screen. This matters a lot to gamers.
So see if your TV has game mode and if that helps the situation.

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?

How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?  I assume I would need to use the DVI to Video adapter that came with my computer to connect to my LCD tv.  I'm just not sure which port I should use on the TV.  The HDMI port is being used for digital cable.
Also, does anyone know if this can be done wirelessly?

For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI

  • How to output Macbook Pro VGA to LCD TV in full screen mode?

I Have a Macbook Pro 2007 with DVI to VGA output. I have connected it to my Toshiba LCD TV and am able to get a screen image on the TV without any difficulty. The problem is that the TV display is not full screen. I can't find any way to increase the size of the picture on the TV. Is this a limitation of the output or the TV display?
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may need to set the resolution on your Mac's display settings to match the resolution of your tv.

  • Macbook Pro to VIZIO LCD TV via HDMI Grainy Video Quality?

So when I bought my MacBook Pro back in July 2010, I purchased an assortment of accessories to go with it including a special third-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter device off of eBay. The HDMI Adapter device works mostly the way I expected it to. That is, the video and audio signal coming out of the MacBook is channeled into the LCD TV display properly so that I can see the computer video display on the LCD TV and sound is also coming out of the TV too.
Just one minor annoyance: video quality. Actually, the picture is perfectly fine and beautiful, except for some reason I get weird video artifacts that are basically tiny specs that quickly fly across the screen very rapidly and they are all over the video display. Almost like the video signal is partially grainy or fuzzy or something.
I've tried to Google to see if anyone has reported any similar problems, but no luck. I wish I knew exactly what device in this process is the culprit of this behavior; i.e. either the MacBook, the HDMI Adapter, the HDMI Cable, or the LCD TV (Vizio SV470XVT 47" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV).
If anyone can help to possibly instruct me how to fix this problem or how to further diagnose the problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Macbook Pro to Samsung LCD TV

I'm trying to hook up a MacBook Pro to a Samsung LCD TV (Model: LE40A656A1FXXU) but when I connected it up the message on the screen was something along the lines of 'mode not supported'. Can someone tell me what I need to do? Currently I'm using the external monitor connection on the MacBook Pro to the PC input of the TV.

I recommend not going this route, the exchange did nothing as I expected, with nothing else to try I figured why not.
After calling in about the issue after they had replaced the old macbook they told me that the "apple engineers" were working on it and to just wait out for that to happen.
    Also new update,
Computer recognizes the TV when I have MDP->VGA->VGA cable 6'->TV VGA input (but the TV does not recognize the macbook)
*The TV* recognizes the macbook (only) when in addition to the above configuration I connect a 10' VGA extension cable. The would seem to be a resolution but I say the TV sees the macbook but now the macbook can't get the driver info from the Tv and there I am stuck with 1024x768 (stretched).
There is one way trick both devices into working and that is to plug in the MDP->VGa adaptor connect the 6' VGa cable to the MacBook can get the info from the TV. Leave the adaptor connected to the computer and remove the VGA cable from the adaptor assemble the combination of the 6'and 10' cables and then plug it in and it works fine.
Kinda of a pain though when you have to do this everytime you connect the Macbook to the TV.
I really hope apple can get this driver straighten out ASAP.

  • Macbook Pro to Toshiba LCD via HDMI screen shuts off

I have a mid 2010 model Macbook pro hooked up to a 46'' Toshiba LCD tv using the moshi connector and an HDMI cable. Every 25-30 minutes the screen goes black for 2-3 seconds as well the sound turns off. The picture then comes back, usually to shut off again for 2-3 seconds then will remain on for another 25-30 minutes. This happens each time I connect the laptop to the computer.
I have returned the TV, connector, and HDMI cables and the issue has continue to happen. This leaves me thinking that it must be an issue with the computer. Does any one have any tips or ideas as to what I can do to stop this? Its really irritating to try and watch a movie to have the picture cut out periodically.
    Thanks

    Hi, Guys
I'm using a MacBook Pro with a Samsung 610 52" color monitor for studio video production.
I'm using an adapter to hook up the TV to the Mac via VGA. There are times when I can get the image on the screen, but any time I either start cold or have to change a cable, I get the message "check signal cable." I originally thought the problem was the cable, but changing out three different "known to be good" cables did not resolve. When select system preferences=>displays=>gather windows, the Samsung window with resolution options opens. Nothing as of yet immediately resolves the problem, but if I **** around with it long enough (plug and unplug cables, turn both computer or LCD off and on), eventually I get a picture. And yes, I never had this problem when we were using a Dell Inspiron. Any suggestions or resolutions, please let me know.

  • MacBook Pro and Samsung lcd

Ok so i have a 52 inch Samsung lcd...until a couple of hours ago everything was working perfect. I had my macbook closed, connected to the LCD, and i was using apple's bluetooth keyboard and mouse and it was just working perfectly.
About 2 hours ago i decided to try to change the resolution on the screen to make things bigger. I changed to the first resolution and i reverted back to the original cause i could not see...i then did another resolution and i don't know what i did but now my screen keeps saying "mode not supported".
I now have the display on mirror and i have my mac book open (by this i mean the computer's screen is working) and i can see perfectly on the samsung lcd...
When i close the macbook pro though the samsung lcd goes black and then i get "mode not supported"...
Is there any way to "restore" to the original settings i had before? i seriously do not understand why its not working

OS X stored two different preferences for a given display depending on whether it is being run as a sole display (lid down) or a second display (lid up). Unfortunately, the value stored for lid down currently is not useable, and every time the Mac is put in lid down mode, it keeps reverting to that same value.
If you follow the instructions at the bottom of the page in the following link about dealing with the windowserver.plist file, you should be able to get back to a fresh start.

  • 17" macbook Pro core duo = LCD LP171WE2 replace with LP171WU6

Removed the cracked LCD  from my 17" Macbook Pro core duo 2.16
    The part # is: LP171WE2 TLA2
Newer mac's use the following lcd part #'s:
    LP171WU6-TLA2, LP171WU6-TLB1, LP171WU6-TLB2, LTN170CT10
    My question:
Will the newer lcd's work as a replacement for my older one?
Anyone with the technical knowledge on this please reply.
    Thank you

    Another option:
This site states the: LP171WE2-TL-03 is interchangeable with the LP171WE2-TL-A1.

  • MacBook Pro 15" - replacement lcd driver problem

    Hello,
I bought a replacement LCD on ebay for MacBook Pro 15" and repclaced a damaged one. The display works fine so far until I reach the login. The screen is then devided into 4 quares with exactly the same four desktops. It looks a bit like http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/spaces.html
My guess is that my lcd uses different drivers and the OS still uses parameters for the old lcd. With an external monitor the laptop still works fine, even the laptop lcd. As I am not experienced with Mac OS so much, can anybody give me a hint how to solve it.
BTW: I have already started a thread in the display forum which was probably not the right one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=693484&tstart=0
    Regards,
    Horst
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The four part display means the upper bit on both the
X and Y section of the LCD is connected to one of the
lower bits. Could the connectors be one pin off
position? Are you sure it is the correct replacement
    LCD?
The replacement has been made by a certified Apple dealer. One more time: The LCD works great when I have connected an external Monitor. So LCD work in general - but not solo without external.
From my understanding this is a driver issue.

  • New Macbook Pro Retina has capacity of 120.47GB??

    Hi all,
I got a new Macbook Pro Retina 2 weeks ago and after tirelessly trying to migrate everything from my old MBP, I have just realised the new MBP says I have a capacity of 120.47 GB with 101.31 GB available.
I am in no means tech savvy but this doesn't sound correct when I purchase a 4GB Macbook Pro??
    Can anyone assist?
    Cheers

The 4GB is the RAM operating memory that your computer has. That's for programs that are currently running. The 120GB is storage space. That's where everything is kept until you start using it. You load from the storage space into the RAM memory.
You'd have to look through all your stuff to see what you can delete that's not important to you. You might want to do it the other way, which is to reinstall the applications that you want and just selectively move over documents and stuff.
How long have you had the new Mac? It sounds like maybe you should've gotten one with more storage space. You can return it within 14 days of purchase.

  • MacBook Pro's Color LCD "shifts" when connected to external display?

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro with the hi-res anti-glare screen. I just noticed that the internal color LCD "shifts" its colors when I connect it to an external display (a Dell 2408 WFP). If I disconnect the external display, the colors internal color LCD go back to "normal".
I have two images to show what I mean:
This is what it looks like with the external display disconnected i.e. the MacBook Pro on its own: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/vazexqi/4558641163/sizes/l/>
This is what it looks like with the external display connected: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/vazexqi/4559271260/sizes/l/>
The wallpaper is from pixelgirlpresents.com. I didn't notice this problem before with my older 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.7).
My guess is that with the external display connected, somehow the color LCD decides to use the external display's profile as well (instead of its own).
Any ideas on why this is happening? And, more importantly, any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks.

@Stefan: Thanks for the tip. I tried it but unfortunately it didn't solve the issue. The color is still off.
Incidentally, just out of curiosity, I tried these two things:
    1) I tried the "Mirror Displays" option in the Displays Preference Pane. With this option enabled, both displays actually displayed the right colors (right with respect to how each display is calibrated).
    2) I opened the same desktop wallpaper in Preview. Whenever I drag the Preview window so that it spans/crosses both displays (external and Color LCD), there is a light flicker in the wallpaper in the Preview Window. For that brief moment, I can see that the color is right before it changes to the shifted color on the Color LCD.
I found a possibly related thread on a different forum <http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=37841>. That doesn't seem to help when both displays are connected.
Now, I am just wondering if this is considered normal - wonky color shifts between the desktop/different windows happen when you have two displays connected....
    Nick
PS: Note that I am not a graphics designer so my definition of right/wrong is just based on my experience looking at the wallpaper and remembering what it should look like on each display by itself.

  • Connection MACBOOK PRO to Philips LCD: NO VIDEO SIGNAL

    Hello all,
I recently both a Philips LED TV, type: 40PFL8605H/12.
    I have a MACBOOK PRO from 2007.
I would like to use this MACBOOK PRO as a media server on the TV.
I have connected the MACBOOKPRO via DVI-VGA connector to the VGA input of the Philips TV.
Result; I get 'no video signal'-message on the TV screen. I recently connected the MACBOOK to a beamer and it worked perfectly.
Although, the TV say's 'no video signal' the display system preferences does recognizes the TV. It say's PHILIPS FTV and a different number of resolutions.
I have tried them all, the result stays the same.
I'll tried the Philips helpdesk and the answer was that everything seamed to be connected ok...so, no use full help there (yet)
'Google-ing' around did not give an answer either.
Anybody here with use full tips?

    Thanks a brody,
I'll get me one of those cables and give it a try...
are you sure it should work then? i see a lot of discussions and people with the same problems...
I was first thinking to buy a new mac mini to use it as my 'home-server' and as multi media player.
However, my 'old' macbookpro is also getting 'ware-out' and is subjet for replacement for profesional purposes...
If I could use my good old macbookpro as media/server, it would save me a couple of euro's...
Can you (or somebody else) advice me... my old macbook as media server and a new one as profesional lap-top or upgrade my old macbook (new harddisk extra memory) and mac mini as home server and media player...
of course, first criteria is to get my old macbook hooked-up to my TV ...
    thanks for the advice...
    cheers

  • Penryn MacBook Pro SATA speed limited to 1.5 (capable of 3.0)

So I understand the recent uproar over the newer MacBook Pro's lack of SATA II speeds (when the hardware clearly supported it), and Apple released an update fixing it. But now I've suddenly just noticed the same thing with my early '08 MacBook Pro. System Profiler is showing the Intel ICH8-M AHCI with a 1.5 Gigabit speed. This chipset can support 3.0 Gigabit, so why Apple, what's your explanation for only providing a fix for the newer MacBook Pros?

Can it be assumed that you tried (possibly, without
success) to download the updater a second time?
    Brie Fly,
I tried it a second time when it was the stand alone app in the software updater and it worked. Thanks!
Big presentation on Tuesday to some of the Marines at Camp Pendleton. That was my impetus to upgrade to the MacBook Pro. To be honest, this is the first problem I've had with it. I love the machine otherwise.
