17" MacBook Pro Screen - Weird Color Lines

Hey Guys,
Well I am having a problem with my 2 year old MacBook Pro. I am getting what seems to be a loose connection somewhere inside the laptop or the display case. Now since I don't have warranty on it anymore and I am good at taking things apart, I decided to go on to ifixit.com and take it apart and hope that this would be a easy fix.
Well it wasn't sadly. I some how have to be wrong I guess about it being loose even though if I move the screen it some times goes away. I took everything apart and can not find anything wrong.
I did notice that since the screen has a total of 4 wires that connect to the logic board; the main display, backlight, airport cables, and some other cable that I don' know about. But when I unplug the main feed and the backlight is the only thing on, the problem is gone but as soon as I plug the main feed back in, its back. I checked everything and just couldn't find out what is wrong. Nothing seems to be loose or anything.
I don't have the money to order a new screen so I really really need your help here guys.
Also real quick before anyone asks, yes when I take a screen shot everything is normal so I know for a fact that its not the software. It is in fact the main screen.
Thanks a lot for your help,
Eric
Edit: Also say if I do buy a new screen, which really can't happen cause I have no money, will I be able to upgrade the screen to a new LED screen with better resolution?

I have same problem, but on a 15,4" Macbook Pro... I allso dont have the garanty any more... but no loose connection.. Sometimes when I reboot the machine it is there, and then it is gone again. Sometimes after few min. or days.
But there is nok problem with a external screen. And if I take a screenshot and mail it to my self, and tjek the mail on a other machine, the sceenshot looks fine, so I think it is a loose connection, but where ?!
Hop Apple Geeks prohaps can help ?

I would suspect that there is a hardware component failing. I would take it in for diagnosis.

  • PICTURE - MacBook Pro Screen Has Bright Line Across Midde.

I just noticed this across the middle of my MBP screen whenever I have a dark background. These pixels can't seem to go black.
Has anyone ever heard or seen something like this?

This is not normal. You should contact apple care so that they can take care. Maybe you have the time to post this issue to the thread about the bad quality of the mbp displays so that the others can compare and maby apple aknowledges the quality of this issue. Here's the link.

Hi, Presuming it's a New MBP, take it back and get it repaired under warranty.
If by some strange turn of fate you have an older first gen. MBP with the ATI graphics chip then may be read through and join this Topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1697470 You might also want to get on to bennettvonbennett mailing list (subject MBP ATI issues).
If it is a MBP with the ATI X1600 GPU I can recommend "Fan Control" to help with (but not cure) the issue/defect.
For all older MBP1,1 owners... keep talking to Apple... send feed back, join the petition, email Apple PR, if we all go quiet, nothing will happen!

  • HT201177 MY MACBOOK PRO IS SHOWN GREEN LINE IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN

MY MACBOOK PRO IS SHOWN GREEN LINE IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN

It is probably a display or display connector issue. To check this, take a screenshot of the display by pressing Command, Shift and 3 keys. Then, open the screenshot created in Desktop, and see if the line appears. If not, it is a display issue.
If you have not got a MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can repair this yourself. You just need to look for the display connector of your MacBook Pro model in the Internet and install it, and if this does not work, you have to replace the whole display.
However, if you do not know a lot about computers or your Mac is in warranty, you should take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired

  • What color calibration tool do I use to calibrate my MacBook Pro screen to get accurate color when I print my my photos?

What color calibration tool do I use to calibrate my MacBook Pro screen in order to get accurate color when I print my photos?

This what I have been trying......  Maybe my eyes are screwed up or don't understand the process....
What I have been trying to do is squint and make the apple disappear by moving the sliders around in each step. Is that correct?

  • The screen on my MacBook Pro Retina has horizontal lines and has a brightness flicker every few seconds since june 2013 upgrade of airport utility.

The screen on my MacBook Pro Retina has horizontal lines and a flicker every few seconds this happened after  this weeks Airport Utility 6.3 upgrade.

    Hi John,
I would take your machine into a Apple service center. Its highly likely a hardware issue. The most likely issue being the display has failed. If there is no external damage to the machines display they will replace the whole display under warranty for you.

  • Blue vertical thin line at macbook pro screen

How to remove blue vertical thin line at macbook pro screen?

It's not likely that YOU can... it's MORE likely that you've a glitch with either your screen or your GPU. You need to take your machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them take a look at your machine. The diagnosis and any estimate for repair will be free.
Be prepared, though, if you don't have the extended AppleCare Protection Plan, to pay for any required repairs.

  • 2.2ghz macbook pro screen

Hi, my macbook pro screen cracked after 8 days. I bought a replacement screen brand new online. I have 2 questions, first my machine is the 2.2ghz macbook pro that was 1999.99 list price. Is the screen I purchased the correct one? its model number M9969LL/A and approximately how much labor time should I expect to pay for to re-install this?
Is it true that apple does not cover these? The machine did not drop or anything and there is no damage to it. There is just a black circle then a spider web of glass on the inside and then all the pixels have turned to colored lines.
Thanks and I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!!
    Steve

I have the Early 2011 2GHz Macbook Pro and I have the same problem too.
I switched out the logicboard a month ago and today the graphics just went distorted.
Any solutions? Now I'm thinking it is the Graphics Card.

  • Comparing MacBook Pro screen with Intel iMac

I'm wondering if anyone here that has a MacBook Pro has had a chance to compare its quality to another mac's screen. I've been working on trying to colour-calibrate my MacBook Pro using SuperCal, and I've noticed that the colour on the MacBook Pro is nowhere near as nice as on the intel iMac.
Obviously expecting a laptop screen to look as good as the larger iMacs is a bit much, but I was still very surprised at the difference in quality.
    Anyone else noticed this?

The MacBook Pro screen is not as bright or vibrant as any plug-in type LCD I've compared it to.
However, it is much nicer than any of my previous laptops (including an Aluminum Powerbook G4). It is significantly brighter, with somewhat better color.
It would be nice if the laptop had a better backlight that could turn on when plugged in, but that's probably up there with my wish for a 2nd processor that would turn on during plug-in as well...
    Cheers,
    Josh

  • Macbook pro screen dims after waking from sleep?

Does anyone know why my macbook pro screen dims when waking from sleep or waking from my screen saver? I can't get it to stop doing this. Thanks.

It sounds like I have the same thing happening. It's more like the colors are washed out, like there is less contrast. I have a hot corner set up for my screen saver. Once I activate the screen saver for a second and then deactivate it, the Macbook screen goes back to normal. I have a 30" Samsung 305T monitor set up as a second (main) screen for when I'm working at home, which is most of the time. I haven't had it unplugged from the Macbook since this started, so I don't know if it happens by itself. I do know that the Samsung looks fine when waking up from the screen saver at the same time.
I tried to find others with this problem in this forum, but got tired of looking through all the other posts that had nothing to do with this problem.
    Can anyone help us?

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. You can then quit Terminal. Log out and log back in.

  • Iphone 3gs shutdowns random, it fails to turn on, it displays a white screen with colors lines

I have an iPhone 3GS. It It shutdowns random, it fails to turn on, it displays a white screen with colors lines.

I have the 3GS and it recently started the RSD.  At first I thought it was just the batter not holding a charge and being lower than what the display showed.  However, even when fully charged the RSD's occur mostly when loading either Apps or web pages in Safari.
I have not experienced the white screen and colored line, yet apparently.  Is this the logic board like in the MacBook's?
