1760 Diagnostic Question

I have a 1760 Series Router with a Serial Interface that randomly goes up and down. According to our provider, they can find nothing wrong with the line.
It is configured with a single Ethernet WIC (E0), and a single WAN Wic Card (S0). Configurations have been checked and work well when card is up.
My question is shouldn't I be able to ping from one interface of the router to the other interface if the cards are functioning properly? ( from ethernet to serial?
When the system is down, I can telnet into the Ethernet port, but cannot ping to the WAN card in the same chassis?
I am assuming this is an error?
Thanks for any guidance....

Steve
If I understand your message correctly I believe that your assumption is flawed.
I think you are saying that sometimes your serial interface goes down (when you do show interface the serial showes as interface up, interface protocol down). When any interface is in the up/down state it will not respond to ping - even from within the same chassis.
Depending on how the interface is configured there might be a number of things that could cause it to go down from time to time (some of which may be problems with the provider, some of them might reflect issues with the other end, etc.). If you want to provide some more specifics we might be able to make some suggestions.

  • 1760 Router Questions

Essentially, I've been studying for the CCNA and I've decided to purchase some older equipment to set up in my house so I can get some additional practice with the IOS interface. I've been looking at 1760 routers on ebay, and it seems like a pretty good place to start as I would like to actually use the devices in my current LAN, rather than simply setting up a lab.
My question is, could I take a 1760 and connect it to my cable modem, and then connect a switch (say a 2950 that I'll purchase a later date) to another interface? What add-in cards will I need to make this possible?
Here's a graphic representation of what I'd like to do.
If the 1760 isn't a good choice for this sort of setup, what would you reccomend? I'd prefer 100Mbit/sec capable routers if possible.
    Thanks for the help/suggestions.

    Taylor,
if you have a VLAN capable switch and proper IOS support, you can configure PPPoE client on a subinterface hence you can use the 1760 (or any other router) to connect to the ISP and route between VLANs.
    This is my current setup:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1
    no ip address
    duplex auto
    speed auto
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1.4
    encapsulation dot1Q 4
    ip pim dense-mode
    ip igmp query-interval 125
    pppoe enable group global
    pppoe-client dial-pool-number 9
    interface Dialer9
    mtu 1490
    bandwidth 4672
    bandwidth receive 480
    ip address negotiated
    ip nat outside
    ip virtual-reassembly in
    encapsulation ppp
    ip policy route-map RM-loop1
    dialer pool 9
    crypto map CM-1
    crypto ipsec client ezvpn witopia_IAD
As you can see I use a subinterface to do PPPoE client and have the Dialer 9 interface receive the public IP address then I route traffic to other dubinterfaces. I used to do that on a 1751 nd on a 1721 this is now a 1921.
You need to ensure the pppoe client on 803.1q subinterfaces is supported in the ios version you run and obviously that 803.1q subinterfaces are supported.
You can do all of that in the cisco feature nav.
    Enjoy

  • Diagnostic question from a semi-techie...

OK, so, without getting too technical, how does one go about diagnosing which component of their iPod is failing? I have a 30G third generation iPod that has been mildly problematic over the years, needing an occasional restore done. Lately though, I have had the feeling it might be something more... Anytime I would select a song (for example, in a playlist), it would act like it was freezing, then start playing the next song on the list. If I hit the "back" button, it would play the song I had originally requested. The other thing that started happening was that it would freeze when I plugged it into my mac. The "do not disconnect" indicator would come on and stay there, not flashing. The iPod would not show up in either iTunes or the Finder. I managed to get it to mount once with a USB plug instead of the firewire, and I restored and updated the drivers. When unmounted, the iPod would act correctly, but I no longer had any music on it. Any time I plugged it into a mac (I tried 4) it would boot up, and then go into the disk check routine, which would always come back with an "OK" check. There was no way to exit that scrceen, so I would reset the iPod, and it would run the whole routine again. I figured it might be the firewire port, so I took it apart, to make sure all the connections were seated properly and were clear or any gunk. With the hard drive removed, I booted the iPod, and eventually I got the missing system folder icon, which suggested to me that at least the logic board was probably OK. With everything plugged back in, I booted again, but now, I get no further than the apple icon, which just stays on indefinitely. I can hear the drive turning, but it's not doing anything. Using System Profile, I checked to see if my mac was even seeing the iPod, but it just says "device unrecognized" and it's not even seeing it as a hard drive anymore...
So, any ideas out there? Hard drive? Logic board? Firewire port? How can I test these things so I know what to replace? Thanks.

    Hello Sven,
I doubt that this will do all that you want but if it's of any help, this link explains putting the iPod into diagnostic mode: iPod Diagnostic Mode

  • Cannot turn off diagnostic question "Your iphone contains diagnostic..."

"Your iphone contains diagnostic information that may help Apple..."
So I click "Don't ask me again"
    And then Don't Send
But EVERY time I sync, I get the same message!!! How do you turn this imp off?

    Hi,
Are you trying to update or restore the iPhone or are you just syncing it?
Try right-clicking the iPhone(on the left side of iTunes under Devices)> choose Reset Warnings.
Do you still see the message when syncing the iPhone?
If you haven't already, update to the latest version of iTunes and iPhone software.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 provides more details about updating and restoring the iPhone.
You can update the Apple applications on your Mac by clicking the Apple(top left corner of the screen)> Software Update.

  • Is there any simple way I can find out whether my router or my mac air is responsible for dropping internet connection constantly?  Often when I do the network diagnostic, the wifi light is green, but isp internet and server are either amber or red.

This is driving me crazy.  The router (it came with the apartment) is a Fritz!Box fon Wlan 7240.  I would be willing to buy an new airport if that would fix it.  But in this country (Germany) you probably can't give things back.

This is not an alternative to Susan Howard's diagnostic questions, only an atempt to collect more data about your situation.
Do you have the instruction manual for your router? I ask because at some point it might be a good idea to reset the router. Turning it off for about 15 seconds then turning it back on helps sometimes. The more basic procedure (this is with my router) is to push the reset. But that would mean you have to re-configure the router with password etc. from scratch.

  • Downloading File in IE 9 causes the extension to change to .doc[1]

When I attempt to download a document on IE 9, the file extension changes to .doc[1]. I have not opened or saved the file before, so not sure what is causing the [1] to appear on the extension. Any help would be grateful.

  • After Effects CC Render Error H.264

    Win 7x64
Adobe After Effects CC 2014 13.0.2
    QuickTime Pro 7.7.6 installed
I'm IT. Not a day to day user of CC Products.
I have a client (Uni) that is having trouble rendering in After Effects H.264 with complex renders. Basic 'simple, single image' renders work without issue. And the error output is set to 'errors only'  yet nothing spits out. Users are Standard Users.
Where is a jumping off point to decipher what is breaking?

    That's nice.
But from your initial query, it's difficult to know whether this person is importing h.264 footage or trying to render h.264 footage.  H.264 footage used in AE can cause problems with certain effects, and it is NEVER a good idea to render to h.264.
So this could be an operator error rather than a system error.
So I tell you what, Mr. IT Guy -- go buttonhole this person, put your heads together, and answer the litany of diagnostic questions you'll find here:
FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
Between the two of you, you'll have a much better chance of coming to the root of the problem... but separately?  That's a crap shoot.

  • Upgrading to IE 10 or 11 loses abilty to see Temporary Internet Settings Folder

Win 7 Pro.  Last year, When I tried to upgrade to IE 10, I lost all my ability to keep history or login info.  Like in several different threads here, the location of the Temporary Internet Settings and the ability to set the size of the cache
disappeared.  I then downgraded back to IE 9 and it worked.  Today, I tried to upgrade to IE11, and the same thing happened.  I have studied at length the other threads here about how to change default location, changing from hidden, read-only,
system, etc.  without success.  It appears that the folder (when you try to open it) is empty, however when you look at the size of the folder it is obvious that there is data inside it.  If I change the default location, the issue recreates
at the new location, however, it frees up the old location and all of a sudden you can see the files/folders inside.  Move it back, and the problem recreates.  The folder is currently NOT hidden, NOT a system folder and is NOT read only - yet you
cannot see anything inside the folder unless you move the default location elsewhere.  I am stumped.  Please help.

    Assuming Win7 64-bit...
Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably
    without quoting my post:
1a. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer?
1b. Did Win7 64-bit come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it, did you do a clean install of Win7,
or did you upgrade the computer to Win7?
    2. What is the full name of your installed anti-virus application or security suite and
when (approx. date) does your current subscription expire? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender) are installed? What third-party firewall (if any)?
    3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer
    since you bought it?
    4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [PICK ONE] come preinstalled on the computer
when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)
    5. Is KB2987107, KB3000061, KB3000869, KB2968294, KB2972100 and/or KB2979570 listed in
Installed Updates (not Update History)? [1]
    6. Assuming Java is installed => Is Java Version 8 Update 25 (or higher) or Java Version 7 Update 71 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! =>
    http://java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp [2]
    7. Is Adobe Flash Player v15.0.0.189 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER
    ONLY! =>
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
8a. When (exact date) was Internet Explorer 9 installed according to
    Installed Updates?
8b. What Update Version & KB number are displayed in the second line of text in IE9's Help | About [Alt+H+A] tab; e.g.,
    Update Version: 9.0.54 (KB1231231) ?
8c. Is Firefox, Chrome or any other alternate browser installed?
    9. Are you in the habit of using "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; Glary Utilities; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser;
SpeedUpMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Comodo System Cleaner; Advanced System Optimizer; CCleaner's Registry Cleaner

  • AE CS6 Crashing when scrubbing .mxf footage

    Hi everyone,
I am using native .mxf -  MPEG-2 HD footage shot with a Canon XF300, and nearly every time I place it in the timeline or or viewer and scrub AE freezes and crashes. Non mxf footage doesn't cause AE to crash.
I am running a newly built Windows 7 64bit system
    Dual Xeon 2687's
    EVGA Classified SRX motherboard
    96 GB RAM
3 SSD (operating system and applications on one, scratch and cache on others)
    GeForce GTX580 3GB
    internal 10K raptor drive (footage)
External OWC 4TB Qx2 RAID 5 / 0 (switched configurations in an attempt to resolve issue) (footage) - connected eSATA / USB2.0
I have adjusted the preview resolution settings, the preferences, the location of scratch disks, changed the location and connectivity of media hard disk, I have attempted older drivers, and ive switched video cards - I previously was using Quadro4000.  I have reinstalled the Adobe Suite, and just yesterday did a complete reinstallation of the OS. And that hasn't seemed to solved the issue.
In the Windows event log, the error reads: Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\After Effects CS6\Support Files\AfterFX.exe
                                                                  Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS6\Support Files\mc_dec_mp2v.dll
I am new to .mxf and I have only been using this footage format for a few months, however the crashing issue did not occur until about a month ago. Im not using proxies  I believe it was around the time when I applied the latest AE update.  I cant say with confidence it was the update because I also was switching GPU drivers to resolve Premiere Pro crashing.  Essentially AE worked when Premiere Pro didn't, and now visa versa.
It always catches and crashes before going into adaptive resolution.  Are the hard drives not able to keep up?
Footage runs fine in Premiere Pro
    Hardware seems to check out.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

I suspect you're an occasional (i.e. not full-time) AE user like me, you expect things to work as advertised, and when they don't, you're at a loss.
You have to remember this:  AE is a MATURE APPLICATION.  There is code under the AE hood that has been there for 20 years.  Adobe doesn't totally re-write the code from version to version, they patch where necessary to avoid a massive re-write.  If they did otherwise, your reasonably-priced, off-the-shelf software would be much, much pricier, and where would that leave you?
Does every such patch work each and every time?  Adobe does a lot of testing, but to expect that every possibility has been covered isn't realistic.
Here's another consideration: there are so many combinations of operating systems, system manufacturers, third-party cards, processors, etc. that can accommodate AE that it's getting increasingly difficult for an off-the-shelf application like AE to be all things to all people.  That's why you see so many threads where people ask diagnostic questions about OS, Processors, cards, media containers, codecs, AE settings, etc.  They all play a role in getting AE to work properly.
I'm not apologizing for AE.  I'm not apologizing for Adobe, either.  But given the currentl landscape, that's a just a fact of life.
If I had a big shooting schedule coming up, and I knew in advance that AE would play a big role in my projects, I would find a way to transcode my footage on its way into the computer that would cause AE fewer fits.
But that's me; I'm not a big fan of being on the bleeding edge, I like consistency.  You may approach the topic from a different point of view.

  • Why Can't I Copy/Paste Into Dreamweaver CS6?

I am running Windows XP Professional w/ Service Pack 3 and I have Dreamweaver CS4 and CS6 installed.
When I work on sites in CS6 I find I'm having issues with copying and pasting.  It doesn't matter where I try to pull the information from, it won't paste into Dreamweaver CS6 (code view or design view). It seems to work fine in CS4, as well as every other application I try to paste to.
I don't have CS4 and CS6 open simultaneously. I just kept CS4 because it had a bunch of info on other sites I need to transfer over, as well as testing CS6 before fully commiting to it.
Any insight or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have this problem, too, and it's driving me f'n crazy, too!
While I'm happy other forum members are offering to help by asking diagnostic questions, why grill us over what we have installed and what we can and can't do? This is a problem shared by many users. Why is the burden of "proof' on our shoulders? No offense meant, Nancy and Murray, but are you going to be able to resolve this bug? Unless you work at Adobe, I doubt it! It's not something WE are doing.
I've been using Dreamweaver since version 1.0 in 1998 or so, and I've never had this problem. It seems like something that should be pretty basic to identify and fix. Shouldn't Adobe be on these forums asking what programs we have installed on our machines and what we can and can't do? What help is it if a fellow forum member asks these questions? Adobe is a major corporation that should be listening to our issues, especially if we're forking over $600 PER YEAR for Creative Cloud!
This problem needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed now. I can't work like this!

  • XSQLT Flight Sample connection error

    Hi,
Running the flight example and following all directions received these error messages:
Oracle XSQL Servlet Page Processor 1.0.0.0 (Production)
XSQL-004: Could not acquire a database connection named: fly
XSQL-007: Cannot acquire a database connection to process page.
These occurred at step 5. "Installing the Flight Finder"
I am running Oracle 816i Enterprise Version on my NT workstation and Web-to-Go.
    jf kotas

    A few diagnostic questions:
    - Did you install the XSQL Servlet to c:\xsql?
yes, xsqlt was installed correctly in directory c:\xsql
    - Did you edit the file c:\xsql\XSQLConfig.xml to define a database connection for the Flight
    Finder?
    yes, from XSQLConfig.xml
    <connection name="fly">
    <username>fly</username>
    <password>fly</password>
    <dburl>jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:ORCL</dburl>
    <driver>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</driver>
    </connection>
    - Did you use SQL*Plus to run c:\xsql\fly\allFly.sql?
yes, the tables were created and values inserted.
    - Can you use SQL*Plus to connect as fly/fly?
yes, no problems with this either. However, I leave the host string blank in the logon
dialog. When I try to connect using host string @localhost:1521:ORCL as in <dburl>,
I get error message ERROR: ORA-06401: NETCMN: invalid driver designator.
As I reported earlier, everything works up to step 5 "Installing the Flight Finder". Clicking on link "English" is where the connect errors occur.

  • Trying to run a script (java) - it just beeps

Using InDesign 5.5, Mac 10.7.3 - every time I try to run a java script, it just beeps and does nothing. Applescripts run OK. There's no error message or anything .. just  a beep ... then ... nothing. What would cause that behaviour?

Giving specific examples is what leads to solutions.
While it does not sound like a specific script is the problem here, it is a burden to try to assist you if you cannot answer direct questions.
I recall someone else having this problem a month or two ago in the main forum. I don't believe a resolution was reached.
If you could tell us the specific script, I could ask you some diagnostic questions like whether the problem is specific to a user account, and whether you have trashed your prefrences. But since you can't, I can't ask you those questions.
