18 Clicks to set the sleep timer

It takes me as many as 18 clicks of "Menu" on the scroll wheel, to go from a song window to set a sleep timer and back again. 6 from the song back to the Main Menu, 6 to set the sleep timer and back to the Main Menu (plus rotating the scroll wheel to set the time), and 6 to get back to the song window (I know could just let it snap back but that is not useful if I want to navigate more.)
Is there an easier way to regularly set a "stop play timer"?
I had hoped with newer Nano operating systems, Apple would have made the sleep timer (a "Stop Play Timer") setup like the Alarm Clock. If that were the case, then one could set the default state to always stop playing after a preset number of minutes. (A variable time setting would be preferable.)
If preset to 20 minutes, then every time I play the nano (hit the play section of the scroll wheel), the Nano would play for 20 minutes and stop. Alternately I could leave this in the "Off" state and the Nano would play straight through (as is the current default).
This would save battery life when the Nano is accidently activated. Most people I know do not routinely set the hold button and have accidently activated and undesirably depleted the battery.
I could see many other times this would conserve battery life.
This would be especially useful when listening to spoken word files. I currently make multiple folders with less files in them as a workaround.
Most important, I would not need to navigate the menu sub-windows to set this.
Thus if setting this while somewhat asleep, one click and done.
Currently I often end up not setting the timer which can be terrifically annoying, and battery wasteful. And take much time to navigate back to where I suppose I left off listening last prior to dozing or being distracted.

My Nano must be different than yours. On my unit, when I select that sleep function from the main menu, it puts the unit to sleep. It does not bring up the sleep timer. Are we talking about the same thing? Does yours bring up the sleep timer?
I find that sleep item to be a waste in that I hold the play button a few seconds when I want to put the iPod down. To bad that sleep function with the capacity to be set to "On" isn't a default play mode of a sleep timer.
For now, I have put the Clock in the main menu which saves a click and a scroll.
But still no default play mode of sleep timer.

  • Where did the 'Sleep Timer' setting go?

    I know this seems like a bit of a silly question, BUT:
    I frequently fall asleep listening to my iPod. I've had 3 other iPods (1st and 2nd gen) which had sleep timers built in as a function on the menu. I could hook the ipod up to speakers in my bedroom, set the sleep timer, and drift off to music or books. With my new 5th gen iPod, however, I cannot find a sleep timer function anywhere. I purchased an iHome, so I can use the sleep timer function at home, but when I travel I either cannot use the iPod in this way, or have to leave the iPod running (and playing) all night long, which then actually wakes me up from sleep later in the night. Can anyone tell me if there is a sleep timer function on the 5th gen iPods, and if so, how do I activate it?
    thanks

    Okay, DUH, I answered my own question. It was under the 'clock' function; I never bothered to set the clock as I was used to having the battery drain problem that occurred when the clock was set on the 1st and 2nd generation iPods. Now I know!

  • Nano 6G does not wake up from the sleep timer in the same audiobook/track

    My Nano 5G sleep timer will shutdown at the specified time and when I wake it, the Nano will be at the same track and position of my audiobook.
    However, my Nano 6G will wake up in a random song as if it shuffled after the shutdown. I test by setting the sleep timer to one minute and play a book.
    Is there a setting I have missed? I use ITunes to set the option to remember the position. This happens to my Audible.com books and my MP3 books.
    I have Shake to Shuffle OFF. I have done a full firmware restore.

    Perform a hard reset on the Notebook. To perform a hard reset, follow the steps below.
    Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC.
    Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
    Disconnect any external devices or peripherals connected to the notebook. Press and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds
    After this, update the firmware of your Notebook by downloading it from here Let us know if issue persists even after this done.

  • NEEDED: An App That Reports WHO is Resetting the Sleep Timer!

    If you've ever tried troubleshooting the problem of your Mac not going to sleep after the period of inactivity that you have set in System Prefs, you know what I'm talking about. I've had this problem off & on for years and I have it again now. I cannot for the life of me determine what is causing it this time. If only there was an app that would do nothing but create a short log listing the processes that are resetting the sleep timer, this problem would be a no-brainer, and would save me and a lot of other people a great deal of time & frustration.
    So I'm appealing to some Mac programmer out there to set aside this weekend to come up with such a utility, and I'll buy you a steak dinner.

    You are correct that things would be easier if it was automatic. However, you will generally find that it is a program with a built-in scheduler, such as a backup program or a video recording program, that left some code behind even if the program was trashed or removed from the system.
    As far as the PDP11, I don't think I could afford the electricity to run one even if I had one. The PDP11 is the first computer I was exposed to in medical imaging. I list it because every once in a while it draws out the truth from folks like yourself when they admit to knowing what one is.
    I think the first disk drives that thing used were housed in recycled washing machines using the old motors to drive the spindles.

  • Where did the sleep timer go in IOS 5? It's been changed to "stop playing"

    When previously using the sleep timer, I would set a time and then choose for the device to "sleep" at the end of the time. Now the choice has been changed to "Stop Playing." This is a huge problem because it does not sleep the device; it only stops the music from playing. Because the music app continues to run, battery life is profoundly shortened. I verified this at the Genius Bar when I noticed my battery life dropped from several hours per charge to about 1.5 hours. Can a sleep timer be used in some other manner now?

    What was the answer when you asked at the Genius Bar?

  • How do I set the date/time on my Airport Express?

    I am using an Apple Airport Express to connect to a wireless router in another part of the house. However, I am unable to set the date/time correctly and so the logs all start from Dec 13, 0hrs.
    I have tried using an internet time server, but to no avail.
    Any ideas?

    Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
    Click the Base Station tab just under the row of icons
    Settings for Time Zone and the option to Set Time Automatically are there
    Click Update to save your new settings and restart the AirPort Express

  • Is the sleep timer still available on the iPhone?

    After the latest update the sleep timer seems to have vanished from the iPhone version of this app, although it's still there on the iPad. Has it gone or am I just being stupid and not being able to work out where it has moved to?

    Just realised that might not have been very clear, I mean the sleep option on the podcast app, not the general sleep option in the overall iPhone settings.  There used to be a option to set the podcast app to go off aft the end of the current podcast or aft a set time. That option seems to have disappeared from the iPhone version of the app, though as I say it's still there on the iPad version

  • Does anyone know how to set the starting time for an audio book?

    I am trying to restart a burn in iTunes that failed for an audiobook. I need to set the start time so it will not have to reburn the disks that were already completed. I cannot find out how to do that in version 11 if the book consists of more than one file. Anyone have an idea how to do this? Apple wants me to pay $20 for something that should be in the help menu.

    UCCX 5.0(2)SR02 is the version
    I attached a screenshot of what I am trying to use but I am not sure what to put as the value?  I tried using "now" and "null" but no success.

  • How to set the interval time in the   JFormattedTextField? Pls Contribute..

    Hi Frienz,
    Hi have a following code in which i want set the interval time for the TextField by 15 min
    So how it is possible please tell me out.
    DateFormatter frmtr = new DateFormatter();
                   SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm");
                   frmtr.setFormat(sdf);
                   frmtr.setAllowsInvalid(false);
                   DefaultFormatterFactory factory = new DefaultFormatterFactory(frmtr, frmtr, frmtr);
                   fmtToTime.setFormatterFactory(factory);

    AFAIK there is no easy (pure java) way: either you exec something (depending on your paltform) or use native code. Appropriate privileges will be necessary.

  • How do I get to the sleep timer settings on iPad?

    THe very first time I turned on my new iPad, I was offered the chance to change the timeout value of the sleep timer; how many seconds or minutes of inactivity before the iPad puts itself to sleep.  I changed it from 15 seconds to 'Never' and now I can't find the config screen that allows me to alter the value.
    There must be a config screen somewhere. I remember it having about 10 settings; with  'Never' being the last.

    Yes but auto lock doesnt work in BBC iPlayer or youtube for example while watching a video. What if i want it to sleep while watching something? How do i do that?

  • When I try to set the automatic time zone on my iPad in Settings all I get is the "waiting" wheel constantly turning.    The only way to set the time is in the manual mode.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Thanks!

    When I try to set the automatic time zone on my iPad wi-fi mini in Settings all I get is the "waiting" wheel constantly turning.
    The only way to set the time is in the manual mode.
    How to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

    You must be connected to a good wifi network for it to reach an outside time server.

  • How do I set the default time for calendar alerts?

    How do I set the default time for calendar alerts? I always want to have an alert 15 minutes before my appointments. I don't want to have to manually set it each time I make an appointment (I just moved to iphone from a windows mobile where this was basic stuff so I apologise if this is a noob question).

    I have the same issue. I've searched these forums and found lots of people who have asked this same question, but nobody who has received an answer.
    About a year ago, I migrated from a Windows PC and a Blackberry (both of which had very simple default alert options) to a MacBook Pro and an iPhone and have yet to find a solution on this forum or from any of my Apple-savvy friends. Very discouraging.
