18 month old iMac 24" - is licence included?

Hi,
Just purchased an 18 month old 24" 3.02Ghz iMac. Can't see GarageBand installed.
Does this come with iLife licence to use GarageBand? What version would it have licence for?

The previous owner should have gotten it with iLife, and he/she should have given you the original disk with iLife on it. Did you get a disk named "Software Restore 2" or similar?

  • Why is Facetime installed on my 3 month old iMac for free?

    I'm trying to answer this:
Why is factime installed on my 3 month-old iMac SnowLeopard for free?  Was it the update to 10.6.7 (on a system with the new "facetime HD camera" - not an iSight - that did it?
I have an older iMac where it isn't installed on - and am trying to figure out why?  Both are Snow Leopard.  Why do I have to pay $0.99 when it came for free on a Snow Leopard system?

I would say it is related to the purchase date. FaceTime is included in 10.6.6~8 OEM discs.

  • Is it safe/prudent to install Mavericks on my nine month old iMac

I purchased this iMac last summer:
    iMac, 21.5-inch, Late 2012. Processor:  2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory:  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Software:  OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)
It is running only those apps that came with the computer plus Firefox, Flip4Mac and Adobe Reader.
It is connected to an HP Deskjet 3510 printer....that I don't want to mess with as far as changing settings.
After following this forum since the introduction of Mavericks, I am very leery of installing it.  Prior to my present nine month old iMac, I had a four year old iMac that "went south" after updating to Snow Leopard.  Not again.
We also have in our family a recently purchased MacBook Pro running Mavericks with no problems. It is operating quite nicely with the iMac which is still operating on Mountain Lion.

Make a backup of your ML installation before you install Mavericks, so you can revert easily if you don't like Mavericks.
    Yes, that's good advice.
    Another option is to...
    1) Make a bootable backup of your setup on an external hard drive.  SuperDuper is good for this.
    2) Update the backup to Mavericks.
    3) Test the  backup for as long as you want, focusing especially on the things you normally do.
If the backup passes all your tests, you can use SuperDuper to copy the backup back to your Mac's hard drive, replacing it's contents entirely with the new updated to Mavericks system.
If you have two external hard drives, one could be the backup of your Lion set up, while the other could contain the Mavericks version of your setup.  This way you could have your cake and eat it too, Lion AND Mavericks.
I would suggest that you DO NOT just cross your fingers, hope for the best, and update Lion to Mavericks without the backups as Apple seems to suggest.  As you've seen, this might work, or it might lead to a calamity for your Mac, and a nervous breakdown for you.
It's entirely possible to make the move safely, it just takes a bit more work than you've been led to expect, that's all.
    Good luck!

  • Have 2009 time capsule  with 6 month old iMac  very slow cox said i needed to replace with a new time machine with newer wifi ??

have 2009 time capsule with 6 month old iMac  very slow  ...cox said to replace with new router or extreme with new wifi ???? confused

Replace the Time Capsule with a new one or replace your router with an Airport Extreme Base Station that has faster Wi-Fi. Or you could just connect your old Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection from the Time Capsule to the computer's Ethernet port.

Since it's a new machine, contact Apple's Support, formerly Apple Express Lane and let them deal with it.

  • 3 month old iMac produces little clicking sounds coming from the top

As of today, my three month old iMac is started to make little clicking sounds! It comes from to upper side. There in the neighborhood of the iSight. What is this???? It sounds like a hard drive. Is the HD located near the camera? I need a silent computer because I record audio in front of it. That was the main reason I bought the MAC, three months ago, brand new out of the box.
After three months of software headaches (leopard) , the hardware troubles start too!! My Compaq Armada Pentium 3 laptop is still flawless after years and years of heavy use. I also ran Windows XP for more than 3 years without having to reformat. I have reinstalled Leopard 3 times in 3 months.
    Whats going on with Apple?

Contact Apple and arrange for warranty repair.

Thanks Giancarlo. The problem turned out to be my modem/wireless router, which has now been replaced and the problem solved.

Try an SMC Reset. (System Management Controller)
Shutdown>unplug from power for ten minutes>press and hold in the power button for ten seconds>startup again.
Also try a PRAM Reset. (Parameter RAM)
Shutdown. At the bootup chime, hold down CMD-Option-P-R together, wait for two more chimes, total three, then let go of all keys to finish booting,
If this doesn't do it, run the Hardware Test in Extended

  • My 3 month old IMAC has no sound all of a sudden.  I have checked the F12 button, and it is turned all the way up. My 15 year old was on it last night, so some setting was changed. Any idea?

My 3 month old IMAC 27 inch has no sound all of a sudden. F12 button turned on and up. Still no sound. Any other ideas?

Couple things to check.  Hold the Option key down as you click on the Volume icon on the Menubar.  Set the output device to Internal speakers.
Also check that headphones aren't plugged in.

  • My less than 5 month old imac 21.5 desktop is causing me some concern,it is slow to start, problems with bluetooth.problems with wi fi.whe its turned off i notice a graying in the four corners of the screen, this is i think the effects of overheating.

my imac is less than 5 months. old tommorow it goes to murcia for ¿repair?.a 25.1 1mac desktop is a formidable piece of workmanship but thatdoes not stop anything going wrong,as ive found out.in the last month it has begun to heat rapidly thus i think causing a graying in the 4 corners of the screen, this is ugly.as i keep my mac in pertfect grace ie free of dust and prints, also it freezes frequently and downright frustrating.has anyone else had similar problems.on a footnote i beleive apple care will come thru shining, but an answer to my question, wich is why in only 5 months has my imac gone wrong.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your Mac, but just like pretty much everything else, things can go wrong.
The key is what Apple will do about it now that it has gone wrong. Because you are under warranty, contact AppleCare and explain the issues you are experiencing. There is a chance that your iMac may have to be sent in for repair.
My iMac has had issues since first bought in late 2009, in one form or another and has been repaired three times. AppleCare are going to replace the item sometime in the future, I have no idea when, but I have been without a working Mac for over three weeks now, actually it might be over four weeks.
As you said, AppleCare will sort the problem out for you, let's hope it's not a lengthy repair and they get you up and running quickly.

  • One Month Old Imac Display Bleached out

The Imac is one month old, base model upgraded to 8Gb RAM. Not running anything too heavy. Recently the display became 'bleached out', for example I cannot see the black lines between columns on the Finder, and the icons seems washed out. in addition I cannot connect a second display as when I press detect displays, none are detected. I have done the usual resets and run an online hard ware test, nothing has changed and the ahrdware is running normally apparently. Have you any sugegstions please as to how to return things back to normal?
    Thanks
    Mike
PS also recalibrated the monitor but again no change

    Hi
I had the same problem and found the answer here :
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/602429?start=0&tstart=0
    Which suggested this :
System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing > look near the bottom, there should be a Contrast adjustment slide, all the way left is normal...
Worked great for me - not sure how it was adjusted in the first place, but all is well now.

  • 2 months old iMac blue screen says maintenance can't use it anymore

Last night I tried ti start my Imac ,starts up fine then the screen turns blue with big message says "maintenance" can't do anything this message stays on all the time I tried to restart like 10 times but nothing happens just comes back to the same message, what can I do please help me

Take the thing to the nearest Apple Store pronto. Let them fiddle with it. It's only 2 months old; plenty of time on the warranty. If you have Apple Care, even more time. Make sure you keep record of the repair work if you have to escalate the problem to a higher customer service/repair level.

I have the same model basicly for 6 months now. I've extended the warranty to 3 years already. wondering if my kernel panic is the same.
I have send the logs to Apple when the iMac finishes rebooting.
The only time I can reproduce a similiar issue is if i run the computer out of memory. It seems to be less common since I;ve updated from 10.8.2 to 10.8.3
Wondering if I should get a tech out to check it now. Problem is I live in Seoul, Korea but I do know there are Apple stores here.
    Please advise!

  • My 13 month old IMAC finally died. Is it worth repairing?

    Hi all,
"Could someone tell me how to forward this post to apple asia, what is there email address as i would like them to get a copy" thanks all.
Some may have seen my posts. I am working in Jakarta and 13 months ago i bought an Imac g 5 , serial w844...., rev a. I also own a g4 powerbook.
The imac was nothing but trouble since i got it. Fan noise made it useless as a day to day desktop. So i keep using my powerbook. Well my business stuggled last year so i did not use the Imac very much. Basically got the imac as a heavy design machine and for backups . Probably only used for a few months in total. When i did use it and needed it during two busy periods, it broke down. Screen failure, TWICE. It also went back for screen flickering and fan noise in the first month i got it. . Last week was the last straw. Needed it for backups and for heavy work, had people coming in to use it. It died and it cost me money as we could not work as planned. Well its been a disaster. Agravation and lost money and time. Spent more time last year setting it up than using it. Everytime it come back from service, they apologised and said they could not back it up for some reason. Then i had to set it all up again.
The little shop i bought it from here always took care of me. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago the original owner left the business to his partner. Now the new owner says he has to go back to apple for a new logic board and its not under warranty, even though its serial number is in the extented warranty list. Logic board at least 2 weeks, ( most likely a month). He also says i may have to pay cause its out of warranty by one month. Even though it was in the shop 4 months ago for repair. Records, what records, where is your receipt? I am asked.
Anyhow, sadly, i have spent 1,000's at that little shop, dotmac membership, network gear ,airport, wireless mice, and so forth. Now i do not think the imac platform is appropriate as a reliable work machine. If i am asked to pay for the repair, i will just take the machine back and use it as a joke for my friends. I will just buy a cheap desktop as the backup machine. Even if its repaired i dont think its reliability is good enough to keep using it. Lets see about the warranty first.
I encouraged a lot of people to switch to apple. Now i look very stupid. I paid US$1565 for the machine, with extra ram etc.. Not cheap.
Two years ago there was only 1 good apple store in Jakarta, now there are at least 100 with the explosion in ipod sales. Unfortunately, they have no decent staff or support and are only interested in immediate sales. I feel that the apple reputation will be taking a big hit soon.
I would really like to ask APPLE for my money back. People around town know me as the apple nut. I encouraged lots of people to switch to mac. Lets just say, the hardware issues may force me to switch back.
Sadly, i have really enjoyed these discussion groups, great way to get help. i am just a little sad and a lot angry now.
Thanks again all for listening to my rant.
    Joe

I know exactly what you are going thru Joe. I had a first generation iMac G5 and had it break down 5 times in the first 11 months of its life. I had mine replaced after some very long discussions with AppleCare. I must say, at first they just wanted to send me yet another replacement part. BUT< I begged, pleaded and begged some more. ( Always remaining calm and not getting mad.) And finally they conceeded. I got my new iMac G5 iSight, rev. C after 13 months of nothing but trouble with the Rev. A.
I had 2 motherboards fail, a video inverter, an optical drive failure, and finally a video card failure.
I would strongly suggest you ask for a replacment. The particular model you have is a horribly faulty machine. Many, many people have had issues with their machine. I would imagine thats why the Rev C machines have been COMPLETELY redone on the inside. Completely! Although there is no three strikes law, you just may be able to convince them that this computer has given you more trouble then you thought you would have had when you bought it. Let them know how dissapointed in Apple you are. I think if you are persistant and respectful you just might be able to get Apple to do the right thing and replace this computer.
It's a shame so many have had and WILL have so many problems with the early iMac G5s. Shouldnt have gone down like that.

  • 3 month old iMac has slowed down considerably after installing ML

I bought my iMac 3 months ago and installed Mountain Lion last night. Now everything on my Mac has slowed down considerably. From opening the System Settings to opening a page in Safari.
I have MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint installed and also VMware Fusion.  I have software (CorelDraw) that only runs on Windows (the one I have) therefor the virtual harddrive.
Is this what is causing the problem? If so, how can i uninstall ML to get my computer back to it's previous state.
I am very new to Mac so I don't quite know where to go and how to fix it.

I was just about to write the same problem, but I don't have VMware; my laptop is late 2008 was running Snow Leopard (uptodate version).
I've scientific softwares so probably would require a clean re-installation of ML. I MUST MENTION HERE that those software which were written for PPC will NOT work on ML. Just found out that one of my important softwares version won't work on ML; need $500  to upgrade that software .
Therefore, I'd also want to know how can I go back to SL.
I'll let you know how clean re-installation has worked.
