180 Remote won't work

Hi,
I have recently set up a Mega 180 but I cannot get the remote to work at all in either Hi-FI or PC modes. Is it possible that I may have accidentally removed a cable from somewhere? I double checked and all the bits and pieces seem to be in the right place. The only cable loose is the one entitled 'Remote TV'. If this needs to be connected to something can someone please let me know. The system is the Deluxe model but I don't have the TV tuner card. I'm not an idiot by the way so please don't say something silly like "Is the battery in the remote correctly". Everthing else in the system is working fine.
Cheers
SG

There are several people on the forum from the UK.. Hopefully they will respond...STU ????
I agree with your conclusions about MSI. I have never owned an MSI product before. And I'm not sure I would buy another one.
However I  do believe that the Mega 180 is a good value for the money. And I am very happy with the way it works in my living room when it works.  However the amount of debugging and work it takes to turn it into a useful  HTPC is incredible. Having read other HTPC forums I know that no product in this space are perfect.
However having to reverse the fans and cut sheet metal to keep it cool to me is just bad engineering.
Plugging and unplugging the thing from the wall to keep it working is really annoying. This is required to fix:
1. Lost on board audio
2. Lost card readers
3. Failure to boot
4. Lost radio
and who knows how many other things.  I seem to have to do this at least once a week. In fact I put it on a power strip that I can turn off and on so I don't have to reach around the back for the power plug.
Even something as simple as having the remote control (assuming it works) turn on the computer would seem extremely obvious to me. Lots of things they could have done better.
By the way I ended up using a Sony RM3000 as my remote. This is a very good universal learning remote with macros user defined labels.... all kinds of things.  It also is extremely powerful and I can operate the Mega pointing the remote 180 degrees away.
Good luck

  • Apple Remote won't work with Logic

I bought a new iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and the Apple Remote won't work with Logic 8. It worked fine on my MacBook Pro.

jazzmaniac, I did something by holding down two buttons on the remote for a few seconds. I guess that is called registering. But when I try to play a song file in Logic, Front Row pops up instead.
I've searched the Internet and am finding little on this topic.

  • Apple Remote won't work with Non-admin account :-(

    Hi all,
i have a Macbook (OS version 10.5.4). Earlier there was only one account on this laptop, and i was using it as an administrator. A few days ago i decided to convert that account to a regular (non-admin) one, and created a separate admin-only account. When i tried using my Apple Remote in the non-admin account, it wouldn't work at all ! So i tried it in the admin account, and i was able to use it and paired it with this macbook.
But on logging back into the regular account, it has stopped working again (even though System Preferences>Security says the macbook is paired with a remote). Please help!! It would be especially helpful if this could be fixed without having to create & migrate to a whole new account, etc... i'm open to command-line solutions [ that won't crash the machine ]
    Thanks a million !
    ..meghana

Never mind. i logged out of the non-admin account and into the admin account, unpaired and re-paired the remote. Then logged back into the non-admin account, and voilà! Its magic i tell you! hope this helps any other people who have the same problem.

  • Remote won't work when my Sharp Aquos TV is on.

Okay, so this is a bizarre problem and I'm not sure if my 17" MacBook Pro, my Apple Remote or my Sharp Aquos TV is to blame, but basically I can't control my computer with the remote once I turn on the TV. It took me forever, but I just figured out that it works fine every time the TV is off, but as soon as the TV is on, the computer refuses to respond to any signals from the remote control, so the TV appears to be the culprit. Anyone out there have any idea what's happening? Even better, know of a workaround? I'm currently using my laptop to play movies that I've rented off the iTunes store on my TV, and it's annoying to not have a working remote.
One more thing, the remote is paired to my computer. Could that be causing issues? I'm not sure exactly how the pairing works, but perhaps the TV is causing interference for the pairing?

    Success!
Okay, so for anyone having this issue, the problem is the brightness sensor on the Sharp Aquos TV (could be an issue with other TVs that have brightness sensors as well, don't know). If you disable the brightness sensor (called "OPC" at the top of the Picture menu), then the Apple remote should work fine. Very strange. Glad I figured it out though. Hopefully this thread can help out someone else with the same problem.

  • Remote won't work? I've unplugged every thing 3 times and still it wont work.

Was watching Netflix via Apple TV after the show everything locked up so I unplugged the power and cable from the box 3 different times for 3 - 5 minutes in an attempt to reset.
After re-setting the normal screen would come up saying it was setting the date and time, however it appeared to take longer than normal. Once done it would open to the beginning page but when I'd push the buttons on the remote to go back to netflix nothing would happen.  No matter which button or direction, nothing happened.
    Help?

Make sure the apple remote is not paired with another device. Also, as silly as it may sound, make sure the remote has a direct line of site with the Atv reciever and is within range. If the problem persists check the remote's battery.
If none of these work check the problem again with another remote if possible to determine if the problem actually lies with the remote. If it doesn't restarting or resetting the Atv may be necesarry.

  • Apple remote won't work with Keynote + "not enough RAM" error

Of course it works with Keynote 6.0 ('13), but not Keynote 5.3. It also works with iTunes and volume during Keynot '13 but will not advance the slide/animation.
Anyone else have the same problem?
Also, ever since Mavericks update, sometimes my Keynotes will not play due to an error that says I have insufficient RAM. Even if I close all other apps. Sometimes when I quit the app and restart it, it will work?
    Anyone else? Fixes?

Solution: Deleted Keynote '13 and the remote works with '09 again.
    Hmmm...
We'll see if the "not enough RAM" error pops up anymore.

  • HT3180 I purchased a universal remote and now my apple tv remote won't work and I can't get apple tv to work at all

    L

    Hi all,
I have tried all of the above.
    Unplugged for 10 -15 seconds
Reset per the instructions for this model of Apple TV via the remote
But all I see on the screen is "check signal cable"
This happened when I installed Google Chromecast.
Any other ideas? I really want my Apple TV working again.

  • XBR55X850B remote won't work with Xfinity cable box.

The channels are listed in the cable guide tab (pictures of the listing too), but when I select the channel nothing happens.  Tried the IR blaster cable, still the same.  Xfinity cable box model # XG1-A.  Please help.

Does your cable box work when using the remote that came with the cable box? If it does not you have a problem with the box. If it does you might need to reposition the IR blaster making sure it is slightly infront of the box or run the setup on the TV again where you put in your zip code and the cable company you use.

  • YouView remote won't work with Bush TV

I'm probably being a bit stupid here but I've just received my new You View box and it's working fine but I can set up my remote to work the tv.
I've looked up the codes for the Humax box on bt.com/help/remote and tried all of them (there are over 40!)
TV is Bush model no: E01LED22USBFHD
I had the same problem with my old Sky remote (which did used to work my previous tv). Is it a problem with this tv model perhaps?
I was looking forward to having less remotes cluttering up my lounge - can anyone help please?

    Hi MrsJ,
Welcome to the forum. I have a look at all the TV codes to see if I could find out which code to use for your Bush TV. The codes that should work are

  • Remote won't work

    Moved to x1

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Point the remote at the Apple TV and hold down the menu and rewind buttons for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • 13 inch 2011 MBP: apple earphone remote won't work :(

    help

Boot the MBP OPTION+COMMAND+R and you should see a revolving globe.
This will connect you to the Apple servers.
From the 4 option menu, select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility>Erase and make certain that the format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Exit Disk Utility and and select install Lion OSX.
    Install the OSX.
That should put you on square one.
    Ciao.

  • Sony Dock won't work

My Sony remote won't work for my Iphone4S when it is docked after I updated to 5.1. Any idea how to fix this?

Which OS version do you have? You may want to reset your phone or restore it. Otherwise, return it and ask for the floor model. They usually won't say no unless it's different from the box model

  • Remote access to Time Capsule won't work

Over the past couple of months I've been doing lots of research and planning into replacing my Mac Pro and old MacBook Pro with a new Mac setup.  I was looking for efficiency, productivity and ultimate portability so the Macbook Pro Retina and Time Capsule grabbed my attention.
I was interested in the MacBook Pro Retina for work (travel) and home leisure use.  Due to having so much music and video iTunes content, I was interested in purchasing a Time Capsule and a secondary external hard drive, placing all my iTunes content on the Time Capsule which I would then back up to the external hard drive when I was at home.  I would then setup Time Capsule to be accessible over the internet so that I could view my media content through iTunes wherever in the world I was (internet speeds permitting of course).  By doing this I could carry only my work files with me on the 512GB SSD Macbook Pro Retina, but could access the Time Capsule media files remotely, either via wi-fi or by tethering my iPhone 5.
So I purchased a Time Capsule to test my theory.  I followed online guidance on how to achieve such a setup and using my 2008 MacBook Pro (which runs Snow Leopard) and a friends internet connection I got the system to work.  I was able to remotely contact Time Capsule and watch High Def video content via wireless internet and even tethered to my iPhone.  So I went and purchased a Macbook Pro Retina (running Mountain Lion) and set about setting up the system in the same way.  But this is where something's gone wrong.  I can't connect to the Time Capsule over the internet at all.
The Air Port utility has been updated to version 6 which is lacking the ability to instruct the Time Capsule to "Allow access over WAN".  I thought I'd make sure it still connected via the internet using my old MacBook Pro, which had definitely worked perfectly just a couple weeks earlier, and that won't work either.  I can't find the option to "Allow access over WAN" within Airport Utility 5.6.1 either?  And the simple apple script application that I wrote (following an online guide) to open the remote connection to Time Capsule with the double left click on an icon has stopped working too.
I don't pretend to be a network engineer and I'm no I.T. expert, though I usually manage to teach myself what I need to know to sort issues like this out, but this has gotten me really stumped!  I tried downloading an old version of Airport Utility to see if that had the "Allow access over WAN" feature (within the 'Disks' > 'File Sharing' area of Airport Utility) but my Mac OS won't allow the old versions to run.
Perhaps the version of Airport Utility I used on my Macbook Pro a couple of weeks ago didn't have the "Allow access over WAN" check box either and I just didn't notice - which is likely unless Airport Utility updates itself in the background without any prompts etc.  I certainly didn't notice a software update for it any time over the past few days.  Either way, I don't understand how it could have been working a few days back and now it's suddenly not.
I used this guides to gain remote access to Time Capsule successfully just a couple of weeks ago:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIQ7SzA1cK4
Can anyone shed any light on the issue and point me toward a fix please?  I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks LaPastenague.  I'm not sure if I have a static IP but I can confirm it hasn't changed in the past month.
I've pretty much come to the conclusion that what I want to do isn't really possible using Time Capsule.  Like I mentioned, I had remote access working a couple of weeks ago but it seems like apple have updated the firmware or airport software to remove something that was necessary to remotely connect in the same way.  And even if I did get it working I think it would still be so restrictive, requiring a fast wifi or mobile phone tethered connection to view my media files over the internet.
I got connected via iCloud and B.T.M.M. but the connection was very slow and video wouldn't stream well at all (painful).  It seems that the speed constraints would make it very frustrating each time I simply wanted to look through my vast iTunes music collection or movie library.  Album covers won't appear either.
Even if it were possible to connect via a static IP I just don't think that the WAN connection would be stable or fast enough to offer an efficint solution(?), so I'll probably have to by an external portable HD and use Time Capsule for Time Machine and Printer Sharing.
I wish I could stream my iTunes movies and music successfully over the internet, but right now it just doesn't seem possible.

  • Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote

I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!

I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.
