Bill, I have this monitor hooked up to my new Mac mini (Core Duo) via DVI, and it works at full 1440x900 resolution (at least that's what the LCD itself and the Settings screen on the Mac both say). I'm still working out the best font smoothing setting, as the default isn't so great, but the display definitely seems to work at full resolution with no setup required on my part. Not sure if it'll work on G4 or G5 machines, but it seems to do just fine on my Intel-based box.

  • 24" Widescreen LCD Acer goes blank

I have a 17" Macbook pro and a 24 inch widescreen LCD monitor by Acer (al2423w). I am trying to use both monitors in mirrored mode (lid up) using a usb mouse and the macbooks keyboard.
I have tried connecting the acer through the dvi-vga adapter and I've tried a direct dvi connection and the same thing happens with each - the acer works and then goes blank. Now I know the acer works because I used it as the primary display for my PC but for some reason when connected to my mac it works perfectly/beautifully/wonderfully for about 10 seconds... and then goes blank without any blinking error lights, or messages.
The monitor is detected, connected, powered, and even works and displays in mirrored mode but then for some reason stops. While it's working I can even change the resolutions and refresh rates without any problems.
I would greatly appreciate any explanations for this issue.

  • Quicksilver G4 + Widescreen LCD DVI problem - VERY VERY WEIRD!

    Hi,
I bought a G4/867 Quicksilver off eBay. It came with Panther. I already have a 20.1" BenQ widescreen LCD.
I installed Tiger, then noticed the DVI display would fail (display strange blue/black artefacts or a 'fuzzy screen'. I have screenshots if anybody wants them. It is intermittent, and usually occurs after one of the following events:
    * powering on the computer
    * waking from sleep
    * switching from VGA (my pc) input to DVI (my mac) via the monitor
    I tested:
    * another video card (with native DVI): same problem
    * another computer (Mac mini): no problem
    * VGA: no problem
I returned the unit and got another. I ran Panther on it for a week with no problems. I just upgraded to Tiger. All the problems above are now happening again. It happened both on 10.4.0 and 10.4.6 (i.e. pre and post update).
If anyone has any experience at all in this, please post here or let me know if you need more info.

Sorry, forgot to mention it is independent of screen resolution.
Native screen res is 1680x1050. And it works perfectly sometimes, just not reliably. Have tried at 1024x768, 1280x1024, 640x480 and replicated the fault on all of them.
It also happens at startup, which made me think hardware. But it could be as the OS display drivers are loading. The fact that it worked with Panther makes me think software.

If it doesn't fail, the screen looks perfect. The same screen also works with a PC and other macs.
To clarify, the G4 is using an ADC-->DVI converter, but fault in this has been eliminated by:
    - using the same converter with another dvi monitor (no problem)
    - installing a native dvi graphics card in the g4 (same problem)

  • ViewSonic VX2235wm widescreen LCD

I'm a new Mac user - received my mini last night. I bought a 22 inch Viewsonic widescreen LCD (VX2235wm) and am happy to say that the Mac Mini supports the monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050 (DVI connection).
    mac mini

I recently bought the 22" Viewsonic widescreen (VX2235) for my Mac mini. I've found that if I do anything too video intensive (e.g. watch video or use Photoshop) for very long that I get "snow" or "static" running through my screen. Then it will just turn off as if there isn't a signal. It usually comes back up quickly but the problem persists and after a short time it won't come back up. Then it will say that the frequency is out of range. I called Viewsonic and they said to call the computer manufacturer because it was probably my video card. I have the ATI Radeon 9200 card with 32MB DDR. I am using the DVI cable that came with the monitor. At first I thought it was the particular monitor, but after exchanging it, I still had the problem. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sam

  • IBook G4 and External Widescreen LCD?

    Hi All,
I've been using the Screen Spanning Doctor successfully for a couple months, but am looking into getting a 19" widescreen LCD display (the Acer AL1916W to be exact).
Does anyone have any experience with hooking an iBook G4 up to an external widscreen display using the hack?
    Thanks,
    James

using a 24" widescreen Dell and the hack allows you to run it at the native resolution... you'll have no problems.

  • Radeon 7000 with a 22" Widescreen LCD Display?

My Dad's 17" CRT monitor on his B&W G3 tower gave up its life, and I'm looking to replace it with a widescreen 22" LCD display (1680*1050 native resolution). The tower's stock ATI Rage 128 (16MB) card is most likely not able to handle this resolution (in addition, it lacks a DVI port, providing only analog output which I find looks rather crummy on an LCD display), so I'd also like to upgrade to a Radeon 7000 with a DVI port. There are a number of these cards floating around on eBay in 32MB and 64MB varieties. I also spotted the Radeon 9200 (PCI variety), which is more costly and probably beyond the needs of my Dad's web-browsing, mail, and iPhoto needs.
Has anyone successfully run a 22" widescreen display at native resolution via a DVI port, using a Radeon 7000? If so, does the 32MB variety suffice, or would I have to look at a 64MB variety? The Radeon 7000 specs page <http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon7000/radeon7000me/specs.html> does not list 1680*1050 resolution (nor any widescreen resolution for that matter), but neither does the specs page for the much more modern Radeon 9200 <http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon9200/radeon9200me/specs.html>, so I figure that the specs pages don't tell the whole story. Thanks for any insights!

Yesterday I picked up a Samsung 216BW 21.6" display with 1680*1050 resolution. Although I'm still awaiting arrival of the Radeon 9200 (64MB) card, I thought I'd try to hook up the monitor to the stock Rage 128 (16MB) card to see what happens. I powered up the B&W G3, and was pleasantly surprised to see the Apple logo appear followed by the startup screen. I logged into my account, and found that the Rage 128 was actually displaying in widescreen mode, albeit at some non-native resolution. Naturally, the next step was to pull down the displays menu and check the other resolution options. The menu read as follows:
    SyncMaster
    1280 x 1024, 60 Hz, Millions
    1680 x 1050, 60 Hz, Millions
    1680 x 1050, 60 Hz, Millions
I chose the last item (can't say why this item was listed twice), held my breath, and an instant later was blown away to find the old Rage driving the display at native resolution with a very decent looking image (even though this is over the analogue RGB cable). So I can confirm that the Rage 128 does support a 21.6" widescreen display at native resolution (and I would presume the same applies for 20" and 22" widescreen displays, since they all share the same resolution). I'll also mention that the B&W G3 tower is running Mac OS X 10.4.9.
In any case, I still don't regret having ordered the Radeon, as the Rage 128 does not properly support fullscreen slideshow mode and transitions in iPhoto 5, and my Dad spends a lot of his time dabbling with iPhoto slideshows.

  • How to get widescreen (lcd) resolution in xfce (and x in general)?

i just got a 19 inch lcd widescreen... now i dont know how to set a wide resolution i x.. can someone tell me how to get 1440x900 resolution (which is what my monitor supports)...

Xorg probably autoconfigures for the highest resolution your card and monitor can support. If not try if you don't already have it
    pacman -S libxrandr
    Then
    xrandr
It should show you all applicable resolutions for your config. To manually set it in your current session find the number in the collomn SZ and run
    xrandr -s #
Then just edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the display subsection of the screen section and put in the resolution(s) you want.
This is what mine looks like:
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "Intel 810"
    Monitor "My Monitor"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 8
    Modes "1280x1024"
    ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 16
    Modes "1280x1024"
    ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1280x1024"
    ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    EndSection

  • Widescreen lcd

I purchased a westinghouse 17" widescreen monitor (1280x768) and hooked it up to my ibook. I'm having a problem where the new monitor has a shaky screen. It looks kind of like a VCR tracking error with the screen slightly shaking.
I can hook the new lcd up to my PC and it looks fine and I can hook a standard CRT monitor to the ibook and it also looks fine.
The VGA cable was missing from the box so I took one off another monitor... could this be a cause of the problem. I noticed that the pin layout on various monitor cables seems to be different sometimes...
Anyone else have any similar experiences?
p.s. I like how spell check considers iBook incorrect spelling

I've got a Westinghouse widescreen 27" HDTV and I have my iBook hooked up to it via the VGA at 1280 x 720. I got the "shaking" (little white horizontal lines bouncing around the right side of the screen) and was able to remove it by lowering the refresh rate of the screen in the display preferences.
Screen Spanning Doctor cuts the VRAM of your iBook in half, so that may have something to do with it, or in my case, the television might not support a higher refresh rate.

  • 20" Widescreen LCD. Apple and Dell are same LCD screen

For the detailed look at both monitors see:
    http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2400
If you were wanting to know if the Dell 2005FPW works with your mac, thats what I use exclusively on my mini.

Actually I have been closer to doing this.
What product am I looking at? They make a spray paint for kitchen appliances to bring them up to date as far as looking modern. There are two types of sprays available, one for regular appliances and one for appliances that get hot.
I'd be looking at a nice white and would opt for the hot version as price would not be significantly different.
I won't be masking the Dell logo on front, nor the little and quite redundant # indicators representing which input is in use. The on-screen indicator works great, and besides what is input 2? =) would have been more helpful to list DVI, VGA, SVIDEO, etc.
The buttons would remain grey as would the base stand. This is easy as I would be removing the plastic housing and spraying it away from the rest of the screen and LCD out in the garage.

  • Playstation 2 to Widescreen LCD Monitor-- Help

I recently purchased a 23" Acer widescreen 1080P monitor at a Black Friday sale, and I love this new monitor. It's twice as big as my old one and it is really nice. Anyway, I've heard stories of people hooking up video game systems (in my case a Playstation 2 would be what I would like to hook up) to their monitors. My neighbor a few houses down has his 360 hooked up to his aging CRT type monitor. I don't know the exact details but i've looked up a lot of information on how to do so, and it's all very confusing. First, i'd like to point out that that in addition to the standard VGA cable to plug into my desktop tower, it also features a DVI-D jack. As I mentioned above I would like to start hooking up my Playstation 2 to my monitor and playing on the widescreen. I know it can be done and it has been done, I just would like to know a simple way to start doing it, and if possible, items I could purchase at my local Best Buy so that I could play my Playstation on my monitor again. Any and all opinions/tips to accomplish this are welcomed. I am 17 years old and I have about 50 games for my Playstation 2, most of which I have owned since my childhood. I would like to fully enjoy these games more often, so please help!

  • 21 inch Widescreen LCD

I bought the gateway 21 inch monitor as it has component capabilities 3 months ago. Now when I first turn it on the monitor goes into sleep mode every minute or so except only power cycling it turns if back on the input button will not. Gateway is trying to say its the graphics card. it does this on the VGA (down converted) and DVI port. Do you know of any compatibility issues?
    http://www.gateway.com/programs/lcd/?cmpid=indexhome*products*21lcdprograms/lcd/index~~shtml

Swapping the card and monitor fixed this. Ultimatly it was the Monitor. I am concerned that the replacment is going to break. It is showing some of the earlier signs of failure.

  • NEC MultiSync 20" Widescreen LCD Display

This NEC display is being advertised at $200 (+$14 shipping). Wonder if this display has the same LCD panel as the Dell E207WFP display?? I do graphic design and had a chance to use the Dell E207WFP display once and did not like it at all comparing to my 20" Apple Cinema display.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi buddhahat
With Mirroring both displays use the same resolution and depending on the difference in native resolution, will depend on how funky one of them appears.
With Extended Desktop you have a preference panel for each display and a choice of resolution for each display.
    For more info: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303086
Using extended desktop open the Display Preferences, click Arrangement and follow the on screen instructions. Then just drag any open window from the iMac Display over to you other display window and away you go.
DVD movie playing on the big screen and posting in Discussions on the iMac display all at the same time!
I have a 27" flat screen TV connected to my 17" Early Core Duo set to Extended Desktop. The TV Display is excellent for DVD movies in DVD Viewer, iPhoto previews & Slideshows, MS Word PowerPoint Slideshow & presentations, Quicktime videos, Web videos etc.. The only draw back is that working in text windows is a little rough.

  • EMachines E211H 21.5" Widescreen LCD Monitor for Compaq sr1230nx model

This monitor is supposed to display at 1920 x 1080 resolution but it is not listed as an option amongst the three (non-widescreen) resolution choices within display settings (windows xp OS).  I have updated the drivers from compaq site and emachines site upon emachines tech support initial request.  What can be done for this monitor to display at proper widescreen resolution...as of now it is displaying a stretched/fuzzy image.

I know this is an old thread but it looks as if it is still viewed often.
I would bet the problem was that you might have had insufficent power. The Advanced Docking Station uses the 150watt Powersupply, not the 125watt one issued with the laptop.
