19" or 24" of Extended Monitor Display recommendation

Hi,
Looking for a 19" or 20" or 24" of Extended Monitor Display for my new MacBook Pro.
What's your recommendation?
Wish to grab some other brand instead Apple Cinema.
*Hi-Res and WideScreen*
Thanks!

The boogers are back. Power Supply was not the culprit.
However I had resolved Issue #2:
Another Issue is that so far, a few times when starting the computer in the morning the monitor will not come on. Instead, the white power light flickers in sequences of three. The third flicker stays on the longest.
Resolution:
According to the monitor manual, the white flickers are a code. For two short flashes followed by a longer one, is indicative of a backlight issue on the display.
So Apple will need to replace or fix the display for the backlight issue.
As for the other issue I've noticed a few others have had similar issues with "The Blue Fuzzies", at the threads below:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3430273#3430273
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=706702&tstart=0
To update my original post, hovering the mouse over the affected areas does not produce a trailing effect anymore.
To temporarily fix either issue involves shutting down the monitor, and unplugging and replugging-in that odd connector on that small white power box that comes with the monitor, (the "DC" cable). (Which originally led me to believe the power supply was at fault.)
Though the monitor and the computer sits on a solid oak desk, I have recently discovered that when "The Blue Fuzzies" are occuring, a very slight bump on the table increases the amount of Fuzzies, or changes the pattern of which they are running. I discovered this when I sneezed.
So where I'm at now is querying anyone with a ati1900 card with a similar issue with "The Blue Fuzzies", as the other (white flickers code) will require replacing/fixing the monitor.
If the x1900 card is stable (none of TBF), I'd rather just get that when the monitor gets replaced.

  • Issues with Yosemite and Safari on extended monitors

I have Yosemite installed on a Mac Pro with 3 monitors attached to it.  As soon as I installed Yosemite, I noticed that whenever I tried to fill in text input fields on a web page, the things I typed in would start blinking.  And when trying to backspace to correct any typing errors, the field would remain the same and continue blinking.  It was very annoying because it was very difficult to enter anything into text input fields.
My brother and an officemate who also had Yosemite installed on their computers were not experiencing this issue so I tried to isolate the problem on my system.  What I discovered is that Safari behaves as it should when it is displayed on my main monitor.  But whenever I move the Safari window over to one of the other monitors, any text input field on a web page would be next to impossible to type text into.  Other input fields, such as dropdown list boxes, act weird also.
I should add that this only happens with Safari.  Firefox and Chrome do not behave this way on any of the monitors.  Other apps also run fine on the extended monitors.  It's just Safari that misbehaves.
Has anybody else experienced this problem.  Is this a known bug?  I tried doing a search here in this community and on the internet itself but have not found anybody else complain about this issue.
    Thanks.
    ...Leo

Hi all, I too am expieriencing similar issues.
I am running a 2012 6core 3.33 Mac Pro with two ATI Radeon cards driving 3 27" LCD Cinema Displays.  One of the Radeo cards (1) drives the outer 2 screens and the other card (2) drives the centre screen alone.
I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.01 after being very pleased with it running on my Macbook Pro for a few weeks.
My center screen had issues immediately rendering certain pages in Safari, the App Store and Mail.  In particular the google page when it has live search results showing, the App Store updates page also renders badly, and some emails in Mail that are html also don't load as the should.  Generally its the top of the page flashing, or the text input box on a page like this thats effected.
I did a fresh install of Yosemite and it didn't fix the problem.
I notice when I drag my safari window from the outer screen to either of the side screens, the problem goes away and returns when it comes back to the centre screen.  I swapped over the mini display ports so that graphics card 1 drives the middle screen and graphics card 2 drives the outer screens and the problem moved to the outer screens.
I am still on Applecare so I called Apple and a senior tech took a look at the issue on my screen remotely.  He decided on replacing the graphics card.  This is being sent now so I report back once its installed to let you know if it made a difference.
I am also going to try swapping out one of my cards with another colleagues card to see if I can establish if its a bug in Yosemite or an issue with a specific ATI card, or indeed just a problem when you run two cards.
In the mean time I would be interested to hear if any of you guys found a workaround.

  • Can I get my dock to appear on the extended screen display?

I would like to have my dock appear on my extended screen display and my lap top screen. Is this possible?
The thing that is frusterating is when I click on my dock, i have to drag everything that it pulls up onto the extended screen. I would much rather just click on the dock and have it appear on my extended screen without me having to drag it over. If I cant have my dock on both screens, is there a way that I can make my external display be the primary display and my mb pro be the secondary display?

    Hi Scott,
If you want the dock on the side, rather than the bottom, you can have it on the right hand side of the right hand monitor, or the left hand side of the left hand monitor. One option, I guess would be to reconfigure things with the 24" as the primary screen, but to the left of the MBP, if you want the dock on the left. Probably not what you want for other reasons, but at least it would get the dock where you want it.
Another option might be to try the third party shareware application "Dock-it" , which allows you to create your own configurable "docks" in various locations. THis actually allows you to choose which monitor you want to locate any particular dock on, and allows placement on the sides of either or both. see http://www.gideonsoftworks.com/dockit.html
I'd been thinking about suggesting this app to Brett, too, but couldn't find the link at the time. I've been playing with it a bit since , and it certainly has some useful possibilities. The docks it creates are a little less intuitive than the Apple one, and a bit fussier to add things to, though.
    Cheers

  • External Monitor display issue

The external monitor for my mac book pro displays large/wide text when both screens are open.  If I shut the laptop, the external monitor display returns to a normal view.  I tried going to system preferences, displays and it's either on best for display or in scaled, the maximum 1920 x 1080.
    Please advise.

Where is extended display mode? In display screen, the mirrored mode is checked, both displays are in 1920 x 1080, not sure what else I can do here?  BTW: it just started happening (all was normal on both screens) until I used laptop at my work and connected it to external screen (school) with VGA adaptor (at home I use a DVI).

  • Extended monitor: how do I maximise windows + trouble using PC keyboard

I've got an external monitor attached to my Macbook Pro
How do I maximise a window in the extended monitor?
When I maxmise, it just pops back to my mac screen
ALSO: any advice on using a PC keyboard?
I'm finding it fiddly using the Windows button
    ALSO: swiping... I cant do
I have the Macbook Po on a laptop raiser
Can I swipe with the mouse somehow?
    Thanks
    Omar

    What OS are you running?
There is no shortage of keys so if it is smaller it just means it is has less bulky and wated space. The wireless ones do not have a number pad if that is what you mean. Apple has a USB "full size" keyboard with number pad.
I assume, since you are listed the price as pound, you are in the UK?
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB110DK/B/apple-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad?f node=56&p=1
The track pad is the same as the one on the laptop just bigger and wireless.
I have a MacBook Pro with two additional displays so I use the Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad. I find gestures to be a great time saver and would never go back to a mouse.

  • How to use second monitor as extended monitor

Want to use a second monitor at MacbookAir 11. I get the mirror to work and I know resolution is unfortunately not the same, but I wanted to use the two as one extended monitor. I cannot move or extend any window to cover both. Any advises how to get to that?

You should be able to drag the application off the right side of your monitor and it appear on the TV.  You can size and position as desired.
Check System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab  for the placement of the external monitor.  It normally defaults to the right side but could be above/below or left of your primary.

  • Display recommendations

I've got a G4 AGP -- I think it's a Gigabit Ethernet model -- which needs a new monitor. I'd like to get a 19" LCD flatscreen. The machine is 400 mhz has both ADC and VGA connectors.
Does anyone have any display recommendations they'd like to share? Or anything I should avoid when shopping for a display?
    Thanks in advance!
    G3 beige (OS 8.6), G4 AGP and TiBook, G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I also have the same computer with VGA and ADC and want to set-up a second monitor. My OS is Tiger. I got an adaptor to go to the ADC port, but it still only shows one monitor at a time. In System Preferences, I don't have the Arrange panel either.
    Can someone help???

  • W530 Dual monitor display

Is it possible to set the graphics card for the laptop display to use the nvidia Quadro instead of the Intel integrated chip?
Right, now the resolution for the laptop screen is at 1920x1080
and the resolution for the external monitor is 1600x900 (native)
The external monitor display is fine, but the laptop display is shrunken and there are huge black bars on all four sides.

BIOS setup -> config -> Display -> Graphics device -> discrete graphics.
And I also set "OS detection for nVidia Optimus" to DISABLE (from default of ENABLE).
    Link to picture
This guarantees using only Quadro graphics, for both internal laptop screen (if you want to use it) and external monitor (if connected).
If you really want to use BOTH laptop LCD screen as well as external monitor (simultaneously, in "extended desktop mode") then in nVidia Control Panel you must activate both monitors in the "set up multiple displays" dialog.
    Link to picture
I have my external 1920x1200 monitor connected using the DP connector from my K1000M on my W530, and the laptop screen is 1920x1080. As you can see from the above, each screen is independent and can be set at whatever resolution you want ("native" or otherwise).  I have no black bars anywhere when both monitors are enabled and active.  Each monitor runs full-screen in its own unique "native" resolution (set through nVidia Control Panel's "change resolution" dialog), as the above graphic implies and as we want.
And of course, you also need to have Windows desktop display properties (right-click on desktop, select "screen resolution") configured for "extend mode".
I do not use the VGA connector.  I use the DP connector, and "discrete graphics" in the BIOS, with "nVidia Optimus" disabled in the BIOS. I'm also running native nVidia 332.50 retail drivers, downloaded from nVidia site (not Lenovo Optimus driver).
NOTE: I normally do NOT run with both external monitor and lapsop LCD screen both enabled, in "extended desktop" mode. Instead I only have ONE monitor enabled with nVidia Control Panel. I see no point in using a tiny 15" laptop screen at 1920x1080 along with a 24" external monitor at 1920x1200. One or the other is fine, depending on the situation.
Then, in this single monitor mode, if the external monitor is connected and powered on Windows comes up using the external monitor (and not the laptop screen) at its native 1920x1200.  If the external monitor is disconnected or powered off, Windows comes up using just the laptop screen at its native 1920x1080.
No internal Intel HD graphics used at all.  This is all using nVidia K1000M exclusively with external monitor connected via DP connector, one monitor or two (in extended desktop mode or even "clone/duplicate" mode if I wanted).
    For me this is perfect.

  • Dual Monitor display/firmware difference

I purchased a Pavilion 27xi monitor from the HP Shopping site in October 2014 and purchased an additional 27xi to be used in a dual monitor setup. I received the new monitor this week. The newer monitor does not match the color/white of my existing monitor. When I move a white rectangle so it displays on each monitor, on the new monitor it appears as greenish gray instead of the white of the older monitor. I have done the factory resets, switched display adapter outputs (NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT), tried one monitor at a time on either adapter output. All with no change in the behavior of the new monitor. The internal setup/control menus of the monitors differ in content and style/color.
Older monitor info:  manuf: April 2014, Rev: RIM111
New monitor info:   manuf: Dec 2014,  Rev: RIM232
I have talked with HP "support" and one person thought it was because of the revision level difference.
I want the display quality of the older monitor, Rev: RIM111.  If the monitor difference is because of the revision level, can the newer monitor be put at the RIM111 level. I tried to purchase a monitor with the RIM111 level and was told by HP Shopping that they do not have any at that level. I this a firm level that can be changed? If so how do I accomplish that?

I understand that the newest monitor you have connected to your desktop computer does not match the color/white of the existing display, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure that your system is properly configured for dual monitor displays, I recommend following the steps in this document on Using Two or More Monitors with One Computer (Windows 8). If everything is setup accordingly, I recommend following the steps below for the newest monitor:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • IMac as an extended monitor for a windows based laptop

Can I use my iMac as an extended monitor for a windows based Laptop while also still using the iMac as an iMac?

    Hi tpskoog,
Certain iMacs support a mode known as Target Display Mode which allows them to function as an external display, but at the moment only other Macs with certain video out ports are supported as the primary (source) machine. You may find the following article helpful:

  • What size monitor is recommended?

My consulting Client creates a new edition of a regional newspaper every two weeks. Color is used for the 16" x 11.75" Front Page
He organizes or creates: articles, photos, ads, classified ads, the usual. He has a PC shop, and accepts stories and photos from one or more reporters.
He is planning to migrate gradually from Ventura Publisher (with Corel Draw & Photo) to the CS5 suite of products (InDesign, Photoshop, whatever else is useful) as he learns more. For this aspect I'm considering recommending a dual boot environment, as he currently runs XP in 32-bit mode. I prefer Windows 7 in 64-bit mode.
He sends the color separated final version with regisration marks to his print vendor as a PDF.
When open, the physical paper measures 23 wide x 16 tall.
I feel like a 30" display will give him the space he needs for his publication, photos, ads, text, tool palettes, and the other applications windows needed such as Word. He doesn't want to waste his restricted money, and feels that his workflow now fits in 21" or so.
If anyone out there is under regular deadline pressure and can make a recommendation (vendor, model, size), we would greatly appreciate some advice here. A memory recommendation would also be gratefully accepted. I'm thinking 8-12GB, though we have 3GB now.
    Thanks and Aloha!

Thank you very much, Eric for your knowledgeable reply.
Now I have another question, this time about the 1920 x 1222 screen size. Will this wide screen form distort typefaces in my docs created on a 1280 x 1024 monitor?
Any comments on the Nvidia 460 or 480 card with the monitor you recommend?
    Thanks

Subject: What size monitor is recommended?
For a limited budget, you get a fairly versatile and decent quality monitor with the Dell UltraSharp U2410. At 1920x1200 pixels, there is ample room for document windows and palettes, plus it has an IPS panel which is highly desirable for serious photo editing and other colour-critical  work (such as soft-proofing – it's quite accurate once the monitor is properly calibrated and profiled with a hardware tool such as the X-Rite Eye-One Monitor 2 ).
To take into account when considering a 30" TFT is the need for a graphic card equipped with a dual-link DVI port (single-link DVI does not provide enough bandwidth for 2560x1600 px resolution at 60 Hz) which can add to the already considerable total cost. Personally, I would prefer a better but smaller monitor over a bigger but mediocre one. Do stay clear of anything equipped with a TN type panel by all means; these are the cheapest and boast very fast response times (something totally irrelevant for print design) but a are IMHO a real nuisance to look at over longer periods of time (or at all if you are accustomed to an IPS-TFT).
