1920x1080 Encore to a DVD

Hello!
I created a project using 2 cameras shot a 1920x1080 29.97 fps.  I use Premiere CS5 and made all of my edits.
I then opened Encore and created a project.  I set the Authoring mode to Blue-Ray as the settings matched the 1920x1080 size.
I am ready to build this but I am placing this on a DVD and not blue-ray, as most of the people I am making this for are not BR users. It sounds like Encore will use the auto transcode settings and set my video files correctly in the process. However I notice it sets it to 720x480.
I think this is normal but wanted to see if there is something I am missing. I cannot get the size for a DVD up set to 1920x1080, correct?
What I notice when I did a test burn is that the picture is pretty grainy. I assume again this is due to the transcoding and that is just how it will have to be.
Is this correct?
Or should I be doing this in a a different manner?
I may consider getting a blue ray burner and making a few discs for people that have BR's so they can get the higher quality. My understanding is I would not need to change the authoring part of the project but would just need to tell it I am outputing for BR and it "does its magic".  Is that true?
I am sorry if I am missing information, but I would glad to add more, just let me know what I need to tell you!
I make these dvd's about 2 times a year so unfortunately I don't always know whet I am doing!
I thank you for any input you can provide!
Pete

It looks like if I do that, my build will require a DL DVD and not single layer.  If that will give me less grainy look I will do that. In my previuos tests it did not seem to make a differnece, unless I did this wrong.
It takes about 4 hours to compile this so i wanted to get it right before I did this again.!
Thanks!
Pete

  • Low image quality, strange playing behavior of Encore CS5-authored DVD

    Hello Forum.
looks like I'm becoming a frequent visitor here! Could do with a little more help.
A no-menu DVD I tired to make yesterday is shown plays in rather low quality. Also, it starts from about a minute into the movie, even though no chapters have been set (I have to rewind to see the beginning), and for the first split second it shows something that looks like 1 or 2 frames of 3/4 video that immediately stretches out to something that looks like 16/9 with dark left and right margins of about 7 pixels.
    My workflow was this:
I exported the untranscoded footage into Encore, set up the First play to the Timeline and End action to Stop, tried to render but the render option was grayed-out, previewed the DVD in Encore (the preview looked fine) and then clicked Build.
    My questions are:
    1. How to make it work and --
    2. What can I do for the maximum high quality of the DVD in Encore? (My client told me he saw someone making a 20 min DVD in full HD quality. Anyone knows how this can be done?)

Always feel free to drop by.
First, there are ways to Burn HD onto a DVD disc, but obviously the Duration will be greatly limited, due to the size of the destination disc. Not sure how they might, or might not, apply to Encore, but here is one ARTICLE on Muvipix, and here is an ARTICLE from the PrE forum on similar. Here is an ARTICLE from Elements Village, but I think it is basically a re-cap of material in the other two.
Now, to your DVD Project. Are you using ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link), or are you doing your Export from PrPro, and then Importing into En? If the latter, what are your Export settings?
Can you post a screen-cap of your En Timeline, just in case there's something there?
You might want to also post to the Adobe Encore Forum, as there are some users, who do not spend much time here.
What you describe is odd to me. I have not encountered such, nor have I read of it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere CC 7.2.2 crashes when trying to export via Media Encoder and Encore crashes while DVD build

    Hello,
    My computer is a:

    16x Kingston DIMM 8 GB PC3-8500 ECC Reg.;
    PNY Quadro 4000 with 2048 MB GDDR5-RAM;
    PNY Tesla C 2075

1x 240 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (system disk)
    Tyan S7050GM4NR motherboard
    Windows 7
I freshly installed Windows 7 and the CC-Apps PremierePro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop and Speedgrade.
When I try to export any video from premiere to the media encoder premiere crashes without any error message. The problem is not the project: I created several new projects and even if I only have one Graphic-File/Bars/h264-video in the timeline that I try to export: premiere crashes. When I export directly from premiere it works, but there is no chance to go via media encoder. The strange thing is that I can export from after effects to the media encoder without any problem...
Second Problem: Encore crashes also. Everytime I try to build a DVD => Encore crashes
    Does anybody have an idea?
Here is what I already tried:
Yesterday it worked fine today it crashes when I export from premiere via media encoder.
    1. Bars+Tone => export => crash
    2. Video Project with 2 short h264-files => export => crash
    3. I used Software only renderer => crash

  • Encore is transcoding DVD legal m2v file

Avi converted to m2v( Elementary Stream video only (720x480 NTSC) with TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress. Well I import the file to Encore CS3 (im on XP) and it imports fine but once I build the dvd it transcodes it....(settings for Blu-ray and DVD are on Automatic)
    Any suggestions?
    -John
PS Just on a wierd side note Encore won't let me import an AC3 file it says "the decoders on this system are not available" and it is not copyrighted(I mention this because adobe knowledgebase says it is) because I extracted it from an avi.

    Here's what I would change:
    1. Use an interlaced display mode unless your source footage is 23.976 with 3:2 pulldown.
    2. Make your GOP length 15 instead of 8 (if I counted right).
    3. Close your GOPs.
    4. Convert your .avi to uncompressed before sending it to TMPGEnc, and then trim a few frames off of either end before encoding. XviD, like DivX and MPEG, is temporally compressed, and if it's not decompressed exactly right, can cause problems in whatever program you are using.
    5. Export a few small sections of the .avi file at a time and see if Encore sets any of those to "Don't Transcode". Encode increasingly larger sections until Encore wants to transcode them.
If none of those things work, then I can't help you. Your system is so loaded with unnecessary stuff (XviD, K-lite, AC3Filter, etc.) that nothing that I know of short of a complete reformat of your system drive and reinstall of Windows and your mission-critical apps will help.
Maybe someone who is very experienced with enabling and disabling various parts of the different codecs you have installed can help get you going short of a reinstall of Windows, but I'm not that guy. :)
    Good luck,

  • BIG Encore problem - Interactive dvd based on menus - blurry menus

Hi, I am making a DVD based on clickable menus. The idea is to create a DVD portfolio, where the user can click through different screens, a lot of them with images, some only videos. I am creating the menus in photoshop - using rather small text. When the menus are imported to Encore, they look ok in the editing mode, but in the preview, the text gets blurry and unreadable - this also happens to some extent with the bigger text, edges also get very pixeled. The format I am working with is 1280 x 720, 72dpi (but i guess the dpi doesn't matter when it's video), RGB color, PAL widescreen square pixel... I have tried a lot of different formats, both bigger and smaller, but it doesn't get better. I have tried to do this in so many different ways now, but simply cannot find a solution - which seems strange to me, as I have seen DVD menus before with small type, without it being blurry (for example describing different episodes of a TV show) - Is there another program that would be better for this project, as I am also worried that the images will be very pixelated... I also tried to export the project, but it is still blurry. Another problem I have, is that the highlights of text buttons appear a few pixels left of the original button - I used the correct layer names, and only text in one color. the highlight is white. I hope someone can help me with this!

Second image: the menu exported as dvd (folder)

    Welcome to the forum.
Why are you starting with 1280x720 PS files when you are trying to create a 720x576 PAL SD DVD?  The downscaling alone would account for your quality loss.

  • ADOBE ENCORE & EXPORTING TO DVD

GUYS I AM TRYING TO EXPORT MY FOOTAGE FROM ADOBE PREMIERE CS6 TO DVD.
ALL OF MY SETTINGS ARE JUST RIGHT.
BUT, I WENT INTO ANOTHER FORUM AND I WAS TOLD I NEED ADOBE ENCORE IN ORDER TO
FULLY BURN THE FOOTAGE TO DVD.
WHEN I CLICK ON ENCORE APP HERE TO "TRY IT" THE APP DOES NOT COME UP.
    WHAT TO DO????
    WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS????
DO I ABSOLUTELY NEED ENCORE TO EXPORT MY FOOTAGE TO DVD????
MY BLANK DVD SAYS MY FOOTAGE (THE FILE) IS READY TO BE WRITTEN TO THE DISC (DVD)
    BUT, NOTHING IS HAPPENING.
PLEASE ANY AND ALL ADVICE IS WELCOME.
    THANKS!!!

You mentioned earlier that you had rendered the video as DVD MPEG-2. If that was the case, it should not need transcoding again in Encore, unless you altered the length of the clip in Encore.
From Premiere, you can use File > Export > Media and then in Adobe Media Encoder, choose "MPEG-2 DVD" as the Format, and use an appropriate preset for your type of footage. You may need or want to adjust the bitrate depending on the length of your program, otherwise the rest of the options should not need changing. The resulting audio and video clips can then be imported into Encore using "File > Import > As Timeline", and be sure to select both clips at once when doing this. Any DVD chapter marks you had placed in Premiere will remain intact using this method.
When you Build in Encore, it should only Transcode the audio (to Dolby) which takes just a minute or two usually. The video should not Transcode, since you created a DVD-legal format already.
The other method from Premiere is to use Dynamic Link to Encore, which automates the process from Premiere to Encore, but most folks on this forum are not huge fans and prefer the manual control I described. If you pre-render the MPEG-2 DVD file, then once you get into Encore, you can have a finished DVD in your hands in literally a few minutes, since the bulk of rendering was already done.
If you can tell us about your computer (Mac or PC, what specs?) and your video source format, we can offer some estimates of how long these steps ought to be taking, and maybe offer a few more workflow tips as well.
Also, as matter of netiquette, posting in ALL CAPS is the same as shouting. Welcome to the forum ;-)

  • ???Adobe Encore vs. DVD Studio Pro???

    Hello dear Encore-forum users ;-)
I've been working with DVD Studio Pro for nine years now and never had ANY trouble with it,
no crashes, no errors, no funny behaviour of DVDs, just smooth and clean!
The only draw-back right now unfortunately is that DVD Studio Pro can't author BluRay-Discs!
But our clients are starting to demand this more and more!
So I was looking around and Adobe Encore OR Scenarist from Sonic seem to be the choice!
Now when I looked through the forum here, I was surprised how many people report lots of
crashes, unpredictable behaviours and all sorts of errors and/or bugs which gave me doubts
about ENCORE. So my question is:
Can some of you guys tell me something about your experience with ENCORE? Is it something
you would recommend? If yes, WHY? Is BluRay-authoring fine or full with problems? Can it do
Multi-Angle and/or Mixed-Angle-Tracks? Can you incorporate other files like PDFs, JPEGs,
.doc-Files etc etc and have them open directly out of the DVD-Menu when you press a button?
(In DVD Studio Pro you have the DVD@ccess-option). What would you guys say would be the
reasons to choose Encore over DVD Studio Pro? (Please no MAC- / PC-bashing since the end
result counts; a fully functional DVD!)
I'm very curious to read your answers, since it will help us to decide which system we'll switch to!
Until then I wish you all pleasant (and successful) authoring and happy clients ;-))))
    Cheers,
    Steven R

    Steven,
I agree with Jeff, that Jon's site would be the place to start.
Also, I think that you'll find very little platform bias here. Now, there are probably many more users on PC, as Encore was PC-only for several iterations, until CS3 went X-platform. That said, the only time that Mac really comes up is when its particular OS might cause something in Encore to fail. Many of the questions get answered, with no indication of the platform being made. I think that I can say that in many years here, I have never read a negative comment against either platform. Also, we probe many of the PC OS's, if they are contributing to errors, etc. The vast majority of subscribers here are just professionals, trying to get our (and other user's) Projects out the door. We don't care if you drive up in a Yugo, or in a Bently (no platform references intended - maybe I should say if you drive up in a Maybach, or a Bently).
I'd offer my positive observations on Encore, but they would be moot, as I am not doing BD, and am using an older version - that will not help you make your decision.
Good luck, and please report what you gather, and on which program you decide. That info might help others (even if they go with a competitor) down the line.

PS - welcome to the forum.

  • Encore CS 5 - DVD Authoring

I'm working with four pieces of footage that averages about 5.5Gb each  I have compress each file to under 1Gb to ensure I can fit them all on one dvd (Optimal quality isn't an issue) . However, Encore tells me I'm exceeding disc space.  For instance, I would have to eliminate two of the files in order to create the dvd.
    I'm I missing something obvious?

Your Source Footage's Duration, plus the Transcoding Bit-Rates, will determine how large the ensuing MPEG-2 files will be. One can decrease the Bit-Rate to fit more onto a DVD, BUT there is a trade-off - quality, and especially with motion, such as your basketball games. The higher the Bit-Rate, the better the quality (up to the max Bit-Rate of the DVD-specs., but then the less Duration you can fit.
As Giorgio (my YOUNG friend) says, you have three general options:
Export the PrPro Timeline as DV-AVI, and Import that as a Timeline into Encore. There are two choices here: allow Encore to Transcod on Automatic to get the best results possible, but automatically fit the Duration to the disc space, or manually set the Transcoding in the Project Panel.
Do your Bit-Budgeting in either PrPro's AME, or a stand-alone Encoder program, and Import the resulting MPEG-2's into Encore as a Timeline.
Use ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link) to go directly from PrPro to Encore, where one still has choices in the Transcoding.
I use method # 1 most often, and for my footage, have usually been happy with Encore's Automatic Transcoding settings. When I have had high-motion, I have then gone with method # 2.
Because the vast majority of my Projects have DD 5.1 SS Audio, I need to Export that from PrPro through Minnetonka Audio's SurCode plug-in Encoder, so ADL is not usually an option for me. As Giorgio mentions, some love it (and I think with good reason), but not all users do. Plus, for a few, ADL has just not worked, as it should, but that is probably an issue with a particular Project, or maybe OE?
    Good luck,

  • Adobe Encore 1.5 DVD disc reading issues in DVD Duplicator

    Hello All,
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the experience I'm having and if they might have a solution. I produce a weekly 1 hour music video program for public access cable TV. The show is bicycled to 15 different locations on DVD. I use Adobe Premiere and Encore the capture, edit and burn the completed program to DVD. I recently purchased a DVD duplicator tower (1 to 5 disc) to speed up the time it takes me to make the 15 copies I need. However, I have encountered an issue that I believe is related to Adobe Encore 1.5; when I put the completed master DVD into the duplicator, the duplicator is unable to read the disc. I know the disc (discs - I've tried several different shows on different DVDs with different types of blank DVD brands) is playable in the PC and on several standalone DVD players. Also, we get no complaints from the 15 stations that play our discs. At this time I'm stuck making 1 copy at a time in Encore. I know that the duplicator works as I have been able to test and successfully duplicate other DVDs and CD's that are not copy protected without issue. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? If I need to provide more information let me know?

Some notes/ideas here that may help
    To
Burn Error Proof DVDs (Well, close to error proof!)
Use the SLOWEST possible burn option your burner will allow in Encore, since it is much better to take a bit more time burning the disc than it is to burn "fast" and have a disc that won't play
Set the VIDEO portion of the transcoding options to a Maximum of 7,000 so your burned disc will have a better chance at playing in desktop players (which support burned discs, if at all, only as an "after thought" of the DVD specification)
Use AC3 or PCM audio transcode settings for best player compatibility (some discussion of MPEG audio not being supported by all players, especially for NTSC discs)
Buy and use Taiyo Yuden (or Verbatim?) brand blank discs

    Try this:

You can check to see if Encore is the problem by building to an iso, then burn to disk using ImgBurn (for PC).

  • 1920x1080 footage to SD DVD

ive been reading the forums searching for the best way to render a footage  1920x1080 60i for burning in DVDSP  to a SD DVD i export the movie in FCP with actual settings and then in compressor  go for the best qualiti dvd for 90 minutes but a get a lot of quality loss does anybody knows how i loss less quality and whats the best settings to do this, i bout a camera that shot 1920x1080 without knowing i couldnt burn that in a standdar DVD and that apple doesnt support blu-ray  thanks

The latest version of Final Cut Studio does indeed support Blu-Ray, you will find it in Compressor, not DVD Studio Pro. You will need to purchase a Blu-Ray burner and Blu-Ray discs.
If you want a better SD DVD, then go into Compressor and create a custom setting based on the 90 Min High Quality. Make sure Frame Controls are on, then adjust the bitrate until you get the results you want. I suggest taking a 1 minute clip of your material to test the settings with.
Compressor is good, but there are better MPEG-2 encoders out there. If you are still having problems then you might consider looking into BitVice or Cinema Craft. I believe they both offer trial versions of their software for you to try out before spending any money.

  • Adobe Encore probleme exportation DVD

    Bonjour

  • Button creation Adobe Encore vs. DVD studio pro (mac only)

I'm sitting here, trying to figure out what to do if you want to create a neat button with transparency quickly.
I remember my time at school where we used DVD Studio pro to create our DVD menues based on photoshop images.
Right now, I am trying to create a menu of that kind but guess what? I can't do it as easyly as it can be made with the other program NOT
designed by Adobe. But, what a shame, I have no mac to use DVD Studio pro -.-
Why isn't it possible to SELECT LAYERS of an image created with a program of the SAME COMPANY to represent the different status on
a DVD menu? It would be soooooo much easier. But no!
    "Solid colors only
Elements on these layers must use solid colors and sharp edges. Use one solid color per layer. Do not use gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing on the subpicture layers. Color gradations are not possible in subpictures." (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/EncoreDVD/4.0/WS2CF5669B-310A-4fa7-A52F-7D01AB25A846.html#WS AC753DA7-21EF-464a-9FC0-8D873658D760)
It's not possible??? Why??? I could create a picture in Photoshop and, later, it would be on your TV just as you saw it already while creating it.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Instead I get some ugly colour changes, I have just one colour for a layer (ridiculous!!!) or the writing even disappears for a reason I can't understand...
Encore is a very mighty program, but the button creation is a very nasty work. Like apple showed, There is a way that guarantees a very more easy way.
    Please revise this function!
Am I underskilled? Am I wrong? Please comment
    sincerely
    Elke Kolke

Actually, Button creation is easy in PS, and one can even populate a Menu with Library Buttons in Encore, and then edit them to suit in PS. This latter method saves having to do the Button Layer Set and Layer naming by hand.
    "Solid colors only
Elements on these layers must use solid colors and sharp edges. Use one solid color per layer. Do not use gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing on the subpicture layers. This is a limitation of the DVD-specs. and not Encore/PS. One is bound to those DVD-specs. Sub-picture Highlights can ONLY be 2-bit color (either ON, or OFF, plus can have Transparency - think just the opposite of Opacity in PS). There are design ways to create the "illusion" that one has Sub-picture Highlights, that get past the DVD-specs., but those are only illusions. One is still bound to the DVD-specs. This ARTICLE might offer some tips on creating the illusion.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Those "annoying prefixes" tell the DVD player how to handle the Buttons. Without those, the player has no clue that you have a Button, and will only display a static graphic.
Jeff Bellune has a great book, The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0, Focal Press. Though it was written for an earlier version, 100% of that book still applies, because the DVD-specs. have not changed. He steps one through building custom Buttons in PS for use on a DVD. He also shares a ton of tricks to create illusions within the DVD-specs.
    Good luck,
