1gb ddr ram working at 512mb ram?

Hi!!
I am just wondering what my problem is. I have 2800+ athlon xp on a kt3 ultra2 motherboard. I am using 1gb Simtec ddr sdram 2700 but when I go to System in controlo panel, it says that I have 512mb ram. My graphics card is geforce 5200 with 128mb.

Quote
I have windows xp service pack 2. I have got the ram from simmtec or simtec... On the program called cpuz, it says the ram is 1024mb 2700 ram... but on system, it says its working at 512mb. the ratio for the ram is 1:1 and i dont knbow how to change it?
Which "system"?  What does the screen read during POST (just after switching on but before the OS loads)?

    Hi.
    Thanks for your answer.
My english is bad. I from Germany, but i live in spain.
Maybe en german or spanish better..
    My RAM actual: 1x 512MB DDR 400Mhz PC3200U
                           2x 512MB DDR 333Mhz PC2700
And now will install the max of the Board
    Samsung DDR 1GB 400Mhz, PC3200, CL3
    DRAM, DDR SDRAM, DIMM 184-PIN, 400 MHz ( PC3200 ), CL3, Non-ECC, 8K-Refresh , unpuffert, 128 x 64, 2.6 V
I'm not sure, that is high or low density..
but when is installed (one or three) ever the same, blue screen and large beep from the speaker. also i change the banks back to the 512MB and boot normaly with 1,5GB RAM.

  • 1024Mb/1GB DDR 333 Pc2700 RAM - low or high density???

Can anyone give me the simple answer to my dilemma?
Does the mainboard in the MSI MEGA 180 support low density (64*8) or high density (128*4) 1GB Pc2700 333MHz DDR RAM chips?
    Thanks.

Anyone know of a cheap LowDensity DDR RAM supplier? I can only find it at $125US - it must be available cheaper for a 1GB stick of PC2700 333MHz DDR RAM

  • [845 Series] Adding 1gb of Ram to the MSI 6507 MB.

I have just attempted to add 1gb of ram (PC2100 DDR 266MHz CL2.5) to my MS6507 MB. When I go to power up my system nothing happens, the system only starts working again when I remove the new stick of ram. I have a 512mb stick in the other slot.
I have checked and the MB supports up to 2GB of ram. Any ideas why this is not being picked up??

I have tried the 1gb stick in both slots. SPD is set in the bios, I had previously been using 512 and 256 sticks in the two slots. Basically trying to find out if I have been sold a faulty stick of ram or if its not compatible with my MB (MS-6507). I have checked the MB spec and it says it can take up to 2GB of ram so am pretty sure that compatibility is not the issue??

  • Fastest Compatable DDR RAM For 648 MAX?

I've been reading about all these problems people have been having concerning RAM/motherboard combinations, and have concluded that my RAM is what is causing my problems (XP/2000 installation difficulties, unrecognizable Gainward GF4 Ti4200 card, boot up problems).  Right now, I have one Kingston Hyper X 512MB DDR434 RAM (which is going out the door soon) installed on my 648 MAX.
I originally thought the video card problem was BIOS related because the only thing recommended by XP was to update the BIOS (said motherboard does not support your video card's features; try updating your BIOS).  I tried that through LiveUpdate, and it messed up somehow during the flash, so I tried to restore the original BIOS, but the system was very unstable after that.  I'm about to send my motherboard back for an exchange.  I just found out by reading some posts here that other people have been having the same problem with a similar RAM/video card setup.
Also, I'm having extreme difficulty installing Win2000.  It installed the first time on a test HDD, but on my new one (WD 80GB 7200RPM ATA100), it wouldn't go in at all.  ;( It went up to the final file copying part (after entering the serial number), and crashed.  It kept doing that, so I gave up and moved on to XP.  XP went in fine the first time, but it wouldn't reinstall after that, even with a reformatted drive.  Other people are having similar problems, and said that once they swapped out their RAM, their problems were gone.
I'm just looking for the fastest compatible 512MB DDR RAM available for the 648.  Thanks.

Heh, funny thing, I was messing around with some BIOS settings, and somehow got my computer to work this afternoon! 8o Reinstalled everything, and was having a good ol time!  :D
Then, and even funnier thing happened.  I went out this evening, and when I came back, the computer wouldn't work anymore!  X(  This thing is driving me nuts.  I'm definitely gonna pick up either the Corsair or Winbond memory ASAP.  Thanks for the replys everyone!
BTW, I've had the hard drive by itself with the jumperless setting from the beginning.  Also, it always wants to be the primary drive, even when it's set to slave and attached at the slave connector on the IDE cable. ?(  I know that isn't a problem right now cause I just have it by itself on the cable.

  • Poor OEL5-3 performance when using over 1Gb of RAM

Hi, I have a Linux distribution ( Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3 i.e. Redhat ) that I have installed. It works fine when I used 2*512Mb dimms or replace them with a single 1Gb dimm. However when I try to go above 1 Gb the bootup and general performance deteriorates badly. The BIOS picks up the memory changes ok and I am using the same type of memory sticks. It makes no difference if I load a single memory channel with the 2 sticks or balance the sticks over the 2 channels - I still get poor performance. When I return to 1Gb of RAM performance is great
In terms of install I just followed the Oracle Release note and Readme on the DVD itself. To be honest they are incredibly basic. There does not appear to be any specific OEL 5-3 installation manual on Technet. I simply followed the prompts on scereen and choose a default install
I have seen quite a few hits concerning problems with performance over 1Gb for Linux such as having to enable Highmem support in the kernel - however I have not seen any instruction how to check or do this - any ideas ?

Your two 512M sticks are undoubtably well matched and live comfortably together. Hopefully they did actually use dual channel mode.
Your 1G lives well on its own as well
However for the greater than 1G, ie 1G + 0.5G you may be using 2 sticks that do not live well together and are causing isses with delayed response. (At worst can only 0.5G is being recognised - (use grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo if necessary to check) ). In general issues seem better with DDR2 than with earlier memory in this regard. I suppose timing with memtest86 might be an interesting metric. I must admit myself i'd prefer to use 1g+1g or even 2g + 2g (i know on 32bit I might not see it all) rather than 1g+2g or 1g+0.5g.
Anyway what I am trying to say is that hardware should not be eliminated as a possible cause at this stage.

  • K7N2 DELTA-ILSR AND DDR-RAM

I got K7N2 Delta-ILSR, the last bios version, and
2x256 twinmos pc3200 ram. The 50% of the times the computer startes without problems, but the other 50% it gets hang up when I start the computer and the "d-Leds" indicate:" the memory module is damaged or not installed properly".
I know that the ram-modules works, but not with this Motherboard.
I need to get new ram-modules.

  • Problem in installing a new DDR RAM on my board MSI 915GLM-V

    Hi,
I have a System whose configuration is as follows
    Mainboard:MSI 915GLM-V
    Processor: Intel P4 3.06Mhz(533 FSB)
    Bios :Award V3.3
Memory: 256MB(64*4) DDR RAM in one DIMM slot(333 Mhz).
I wanted to increase the memory to 512 MB and hence bought a new256 MB(333 MHZ and 32 *8) card. But whenever I insert my card, My system never boots up. I am unable to even enter the bios.
I even replaced my old DDR RAM with this new one. But still my system never comes up. Is there any reason that my system is not recognising the new memory. Or is it that 32*8 not supported by this motherboard.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ravitej

Sorry, your DDR RAM is not supported.  You need 64*4 for 256MB, or 64*8 for 512MB.

  • Is it ok to use 1GB + 256MB RAM in Satellite P25-s607

I have a Satellite P25-s607, and I wanted to know the following:
    1) if it's ok to install only a single 1GB stick of RAM next to a 256MB stick? Will I lose any performance speed doing this versus 2 1GB sticks (assuming I use under 1GB of RAM at most times)? Sounds like it will not have a performance hit since this model doesn't support dual-channel memory (according to crucial.com)
    2) I assume this is the correct (best) module to use: [1GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700|http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=3B53A794A5CA7304] with specs:
    # Module Size: 1GB
    # Package: 200-pin SODIMM
    # Feature: DDR PC2700
    # Specs: DDR PC2700 CL=2.5 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR333 2.5V 128Meg x 64
    3) Is there any reason to install BIOS 2.10? It is listed under the toshiba support site under P25-S607-related, but the only change it states is: "Added support for the Pentium 4 D1 stepping CPU"
    4) Is it possible to install a better CPU? I assume not...
    5) What about graphics card (it came with NVIDIA® GeForce? FX Go5200 graphics controller; 64MB DDR external video memory)? Also I assume not...
    Thanks for any help!!

    Hi
    Regarding the question number:
    1) The notebook can be upgraded up to 2GB RAM and therefore you can use one 1GB RAM and one 256MB module. But its always better if you would use the identical memory modules. Its better for performance but I doubt you will notice an performance boost.
    2) Yes, you have to use the 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 modules
    3) If your notebook runs trouble free then I dont see any reasons for a BIOS update
    4) Usually its not advisable to upgrade the CPU due to a higher heat dissipation and overheating risks due to a higher CPU performance
    5) No, this is definitely not possible because the GPU is fixed on the board

  • K7t266 Pro2 And Pc2700 Ddr Ram?

Does anybody here know if a k7t266 pro2 mobo will support pc2700 ddr ram?  COMPUSA Has a great deal on PNY right now--512mb pc2700 ddr for 50 bucks after rebates....As far as I have read, the documentation says pc1600 or pc2100.  But we all know that rules are meant to be broken.......
Thanks for any help I receive!!!
My specs are in my signature!

You can use pc2700 ram but without any benefit against pc2100, speed will be the same.
Be aware that it's normally no good idea to mix different ram type, this can cause trouble.

  • Xserve G5 with DDR RAM

How to find information or Benchmark comparsion RAM
    (Xserve G5)
    - 2GB (2 x 1GB)
    or
    - 2GB (4 x 512MB)
Which one is better performance and Have it information in the

    thank you

Performance will be the same. You'll just have fewer slots free (and less max capacity) if you use 512 MB modules.

  • DDR RAM voltage question

i have some sort of the K8N Neo4-F/FI (dunno exactly) with a pair of 512MB ddr ram 400MHz (hyundai chips)
i don't overclock at all, everything is at the default settings.
yet if i go to the bios and check the ddr settings, the voltage is 2.65V, i haven't changed this, this is the default setting.
shouldn't the ddr rams run at 2.5V by default? so why is mine running at 2.65? can i reduce it back to 2.5? i don't want any damage to my ram and i want them to last long.

Quote from: bsh on 25-January-07, 19:54:59
just found on wikipedia, that ddr operates at 2.5V.
it really depends on the chip. since i don't think that hyundai makes mem chips, i'm guessing that you have hynix chips. the majority of the hynix chips on the DDR memories out there are either D43 or D5. both of them have a stock voltage of 2.5V, but the D43 has a max recommended voltage of 2.9V while for the D5 this is 3V. so i would say, you're safe till 2.9V anyway.

  • DDR RAM 2GB in DC7100

    Hi!
    May I install to DC7100 SFF (PE218ET) BIOS 786C1 v.01.05  DDR RAM 2*2G Micron PC3200R-30331-z?
Maybe I need to upgrade BIOS?

    Hi:
The maximum amount of memory you can install in each memory slot is limited to 1 GB.
A BIOS update won't change that.
You can install 2 x 2 GB in a dc7600 even though the specs say it is not supported, but you can't on a dc7100.
