1Gb iPod nano problem

Hi all,
I am new to this forum. I am having trouble with my iPod Nano 1Gb. The battery
was still plenty strong when the iPod went off. No sound. When I try to start it again I get a folder icon with an exclamation point on top of it and the URL apple.com/support/ipod underneath. I tried hooking it up to my iBook and got a message that reads 'you have connected a volume that the macintosh doesn't recognize' and it gives me the option to 'ignore'or 'initialize'. Does anyone out there have any input on this dilemma? You can email me directly at [email protected]
Thanks in advance.
Dennis

Hi
It's possible your nano got corrupted.
You can try the 5rs http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/ Typically you'll be able to solve your problem.
However, I think simply initializing your nano will solve the problem. However, it will erase all the data on the nano, so it's not advisable if you have songs you don't want to lose.

  • 1GB iPod Nano worry/problem

Hey all, I just got the new 1GB iPod Nano the other day and was very delighted. I was pressing the select button and I noticed something weird. It didn't go all the way down and it felt unclickable (I'm not refering to the "click" sound). Or it does if I press it hard enough but just standard pressure on it feels like the thing is stuck. Is this new on this generation (1GB)? Where the select button is now touch sensitive? Or is it just me and I'm being stupid hah! Just wondering..
    1GB iPod Nano White

no. the wheel is touch sensitive and when you want to select something you just press a button down. You dont have to press it hard, just press it down.
However, if your button feels jammed and it bothers you, you could probably take it to an Apple store and possibly get it replaced. If your button does get jammed then they probaly will replace it.
And I dont think anything is different between the 1gb nano and the other two other than the screen shape. It supposedly more rounded at the corners or something along those lines.

  • Interesting occurance with 1gb ipod nano and on-the-go playlist creation ..

interesting occurance with 1gb ipod nano and on-the-go playlist creation might be helpful to some.
NOTE: the feedback form isnt up to date for software versions for 1gb ipod nano (newest here is 1.1.1 but i have 1.3.1).
it seems i cannot create on-the-go playlist by holding album OR artist, with my 1gb ipod nano with VERSION 1.3.1 software, if there are various sizes of playlists in my ipod. i had about 4 playlists with 1 song in them and 2 -3 playlists with 5 - 30 songs in them. total space on ipod used was about 400mb of 896mb and about 1500 songs (most poor quality to save space (18-48kbs - i noticed some of the lower qualities have overtones of whistle or cricket like sounds (i have many ambient songs birds, thunder storms, etc)).
i just manually deleted ALL playlists also deleted 945 songs on my ipod with itunes, and now i am able to do it. i can even do it now with composer or genre etc (which isnt listed in the playlist creation instructions). i now have 612 songs with 113mb free.
p.s. i tried to leave this as bug feedback but got a strange message that was like a command pointing to a thank you for leaving feedback page.

I have got this problem with my new 8gb nano too. Its very sad I had my mini stolen from my person whilst in a hospital bed dozing and it worked from the same itunes list and I could add albums or artists or songs now on the new replacment nano I can only add songs. Very annoying, please let me know if anyone can solve this. I too have reset and restored it numerous times. I am in the uk I think you are in the states.

  • 1GB iPod nano, pointless!

I think it is a little pointless to have a 1GB nano, you can get the shuffle for under 1/3 the price. And if you spend £30 pounds more you get 2times the size and if you spend £60 more you get 4 times the size!
    Shuffle 512mb 120songs £49
    1gb 240songs £69 +£20, 120songs,
    Nano 1gb 240songs £109 +£40, Screen,
    2gb 500songs £139 +£30, 260songs,
    4gb 1000songs £179 +£40, 500songs,

    "1GB iPod nano, pointless!"
Bit like this whole thread really.

  • IPod Nano Problem with Turning On

Right I've got a bit of a problem with turning on the nano. I know it works because when its on it's fine, but if its off for a while (i.e. 30 mins or more) and I go to press play or whatever, nothing happens. But if I press any of the buttons about 100 times it will come on and work fine.
Has anyone had this problem and know if there's anything I can do about it. It seems like the buttons don't work properly, but it can't be that because they work when its on.
    Here's what I know it's not:
    Battery (its full)
In need of a restore (tried that)
    Reset (tried that)
In need of new software (just put the latest on)
So any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.
Oh also, completely off subject just trying to kill 2 birds with one stone, how do you do backwards deletes on a mac (i.e. what the 'del' button does on a PC)?

    AliasailA, you are kidding, right??
You cannot use someone else's serial number or Apple Care Plan--it doesn't work that way.
I noticed you had another post that said the mini was given to you and has a "sad face icon" and out of warranty. Hummmm.
You really have to send that mini in for repair/replacement or consider it a lost cause. Maybe it is time to buy an iPod Nano for yourself.

  • Ipod nano problems

OK, I just purchased 3 ipod nano's. One for myself, one for my son, and one for my friend's daughter. I somehow have connected both mine and my friend's daughter's to my itunes which is no good because she will need to use her's on her own itunes. How do I get her ipod off of my itunes so she can set up her own itunes on her own computer?
Also how do I remove songs from her nano??

try reset & software update and asking on iPod nano section, in iPod Nano section

  • Several iPod nano problems

i got my ipod nano yesterday but i'm already having problems.
as soon as i downloaded itunes it put all songs i had on my computer onto my ipod. no big deal. then i started importing some of my cds onto itunes and then onto my ipod. again no big deal. then i went ahead and bought three songs off of itunes and put those onto my ipod. then why the ipod was still hooked up to the computer i tried to listen to one of the songs i bought. it played for 21 seconds and then it went onto the next song. and that next song played out just fine. so i went to a song that had come off of one of my cds and it played until 1:21 and then went to the next song. and most other songs would cut off at various times whether the ipod was plugged or unplugged from the computer.
so frustrated i google ipod help and come upon the 5 r's that apple has set up. i reset my ipod. nothing changed. i restarted my computer. nothing changed. and i downloaded the updater and restored my ipod. so after i restored my ipod, i put all my songs back onto my ipod. and now none of the songs will play. i press music and artists or whatever and it shows the song as if it's going to play but it doesnt and it goes to the next song and shows as if its going to play and it doesnt.
    can anyone please help me?

janey, my sympathies. I have had a few minis, a shuffle, and now a nano, and at various times each of them has gone nuts on me for no apparent reason. With a history of four machines, and three different computers (I am now using a brand new dell xps 200) I can't seem to get these guys to work correctly for very long. They are design marvels, but otherwise, from my vantage point, they stink. Call apple and they will replace it, and qwickly. Once they are bad, they stay bad.

  • New iPod nano -problem when sharing account with old ipod

my ipod nano disappears from itunes, yet is still connected, so I'm unable to import music. Anything I do import goes to the shared account. I can't update my nano and it's all very disappointing. what can I do?

Go through the Apple troubleshooting steps and see if that solves the problem. Find those here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano4gen/
Also, try charging it over night. Keep in mind that your computer has to be on for the iPod to charge while connected to the USB connection.

  • ITunes/iPod Nano Problem?

I recently purchased a refurbished iPod Nano 4th generation from GameStop. When I went to sync the iPod with iTunes, it proceeds to tell me that it is installing "Natrual Voice Text to Speech Reader Standard". After a moment, it shows this -
When I click "Cancel", it proceeds to show the same thing all over again.I have to end the task in Windows Task Manager to get the box to go away, and this closes iTunes with it. iTunes still works when the box is present, but the iPod is not recognized in iTunes.
Thinking this could be a virus, I ran antivirus scans on the computer and the iPod. Nothing showed up.
At this point, what should I do?

  • IPod nano Problem with Nike+iPod

Yesterday, I just got a new 3G Black iPod nano 8 GB. Sooner today, while looking its features, I found out about Nike+iPod application. Since this is my first iPod, I had no idea what it was. It was asking for the receiver to be connected. I thought that the receiver was actually the USB Charger, so I inserted it. Now it's stuck on the screen asking for the receiver to be attached. I pressed any button I could and tried everything as well. Nothing happened.
What should I do? I suppose that when it is discharched, it will be able to work again, but since it's not playing music, I suppose that the battery will last for pretty much time...
    HELP!
    Edit: Excuse me, wrong category...

You will need to reset your Nano by holding down the center and menu buttons until the Apple appears on the screen.
The Nike+ Sport kit is a device that attaches to the dock connector of your iPod and has a transmitter that goes in your shoe. Without that, the menu function on the Nano doesn't do much.

  • Impossible Ipod Nano problems:1-syncing issues, 2-iTunes won't work at all

My ipod nano started with saying my playlists cannot be synced due to the fact that "no playlists exist"...when they are all obviously there in iTunes.
Then I uninstalled QuickTime & iTunes...then reinstalled them... my ipod would only recognize the Jessica's Ipod Selection playlist.
Then I deleted that, like before when I made my other playlists, in the hope that my other playlists would work
Then it was saying the thing about how my playlists won't sync because they don't exist..again.
Then I reinstalled itunes, + quicktime again..then installed them. Now it is saying "The File "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".
Please, can someone help me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jess

There are two programs that might budge it one is the Windows cleanup program (be sure you get the one for 64 bit operating systems if that's what you're running :
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2265732&tstart=0
Or there's this one which I've also found useful but 32 bit XP only : http://www.revouninstaller.com/
You'd be doing the forced uninstall which specifically to get program left overs.
For a free 30 day trial there's also this but I haven't tested it as I have the first two : http://download.cnet.com/Total-Uninstall/3010-2096_4-11117407.html?tag=mncol

  • Ipod Nano problem - always restoring itself

Can anyone please help me? I bought my ipod just under a year ago (2nd Nov) but Apple says its out of warranty.
1st gen ipod nano 4gb, windows XP Pro, itunes (v7.0.1.8) and ipod (v1.3)
When i connect it to iTunes, and transfer music to it, if switches itself off and says 'file cannot be found' or something like that. then when it reconnects to itunes, it has just lost all the music i transfered to it! This has happened about 6 times in the last few weeks.
I have tried all of the following:
    reinstall itunes
    new usb lead
    restore ipod
    update ipod and itunes
    reboot PC
    reboot ipod
    cry lots lol
I am going to be so gutted if my ipod is broken, and I cant work out what else to do.
Please someone help me - also if i have receipt for purchase of ipod, will apple believe it is still in warranty?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What kind of noise are you getting? If the sounds were a clicking kind of sound:
When clicking and selecting something while on your iPod, it is natural that it sometimes makes some clicking sounds, as it is accessing the hard drive, so it can play a song, for example.
If the clicking sounds seem to be especially rythemic, that isn't good.
The first thing to do is reset your iPod.
Also, see this link; the Five R's may be worth a try:

If you could describe the noise for us, that would be good.
    I hope this helps.

  • IPod nano problem..help me please..

    Hi all!..
I have one iPod Nano, my brother of 7 years created a password, and now I do not know which is.
I do not have more the computer where I connected iPod for the first time, it broke. What I make?
    Help me, please,I am despaired.=\
    I hope you help me.
      Windows XP

If you no longer have your original PC and you can't get it unlocked you'll need to restore it. Just be aware that restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation:
