I have a 1GHz DVI I was given with both hinges broken, but that still displayed video (although of a degraded nature). I have been trying different replacement hinges/displays on it with differing unsuccessful results. When I power it on with one of the displays, I hear a sizzle near the start button; computer boots but LCD remains black. With another display, the LCD flickers a few times then goes black; no sizzling sound. The computer itself always boots and can be used with an external monitor so it's not the logic board. I have successfully replaced the hinges and/or displays of titanium PowerBooks before but this is driving me crazy. How do you know if the inverter is bad?

If you can see a display image on the screen with the aid of a bright light, but the backlight isn't lit, then it's likely that the inverter, or the cable that connects it to the logic board, or the cable that connects it to the backlight tube is bad. If you've been busily swapping displays in and out, you may have damaged the cable from the inverter to the backlight in one or more of them. And if the cable has shorted out, the short may have damaged your inverter. But before replacing the inverter or either cable, make sure there is indeed an image on the display. If the display is blank instead of just dark, you have a more serious problem — most likely a bad video cable, since your external display behaves normally.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article.
2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.

If so I conclude thay the washing damaged something and servie is required. Ormaybe you damaged something when you took it apart/put it back together.

I asked my friends on Facebook and one came up with the answer... I just had to flip the little "ring-silent switch" on the side of the iPhone to cut the "Pinging" sound! There's probably another way but this works!

I double checked that vibration works in general and it does. so does the sound file for the Text tone.

First off, I suggest using the charger that came with the iPad and plug that into a good wall outlet. USB ports often do not supply enough power for efficient charging on an iPad.

Since you are still in the warranty period, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have it checked. The clicks are not loud, but should be audible.

This is purely a personalization question, but the last clamshell phone I owned was Windows-based and I was able to customize the sounds that it made when I opened it and closed it. Pretty minor and geeky, but I loved having it make the old school Star Trek communicator sound when I flipped it open..."Kirk here". This phone is light years ahead of my old Windows phone, so I figured it should have this feature. Does anyone know how to assign sounds to these actions?

MY problem is now solved.

Since the iOS 7 update, some apps no longer have sound, even of configured to do so. Example, no longer does my FaceTime ring even if I have a tone set; my email app doesn't make a sound when email comes in or goes out. Help!

Ever since I updated to ios7, sounds from specific apps has disappeared, even if configured correctly to make sounds. My mail doesn't sound off anymore when mail comes in or goes out. My FaceTime no longer rings when someone calls me. My map app no longer gives me voice instructions like it did before. If someone messages me I do not hear sounds anymore. I find it very annoying especially because I have family abroad and FaceTime is an important means of communication. I reset it by pressing the sleep and home button and all, nothing happened.
Can someone help understand how to resolve this problem.

(A) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
(B) Make sure sound is not muted in Control Center; tap on the little bell. Swipe upwards from bottom of screen to launch Control Center
