1in5 Reboots Fail

Hi
My pc appears to be running fine apart from one very annoying issue whereby about 1in5 reboots fail.  The pc hangs just after it closes the MSI Bios Logo.  I switch me pc off and on and it'll load the OS no problem.  It doesnt particulally affect my work as I only reboot everyother day anyway, but surely it is an indicator that something isn't quite right?
Memtest86 finds no problems.
Any ideas?

SLICER

OK,
Then run the memories at 2.7v.
If the memorymodules are healty they can take that, even for long time run.
You can also test your ram with memtest86 to secure functionallity.
http://www.memtest86.com/
and run a torturetest with prime95 to see how it work under stress.

and don´t forget to test with another better PSU as well.
Sorry for the double post

  • My 16 GB iPhone 5 is stuck on a black screen. A white screen with the apple logo flashes occasionally. iTunes won't recognize the phone, and hard reboot failed. Can anyone help?

I just bought a gently used 16 GB iPhone 5. I set the phone up earlier today with no issues at all, installing backup data from my iPhone 4, syncing the new phone to my iCould, setting up my new SIM card, etc.
The phone was working fine (I was able to send and receive texts, use WiFi, manage apps, etc.) for the first hour or so. Then, without warning, it shut down. The screen is solid black, but every now and then it flashes white with the black apple logo.
I tried multiple hard reboots — all failed.
iTunes (on my MacBook Air, running Yosemite) is now unable to recognize the device, although it recognized it without issue earlier today.
I live overseas, so going to an Apple store is a bit inconvenient. If I can trouble shoot this at home (and in English), it would be really helpful.
Thank you in advance if you have any helpful tips or suggestions!

DO NOT STICK A PAPER CLIP IN THE HOLE!
There are two holes.  One is a small one that has a microphone behind it.  A paper clip would probably ruin the microphone.  The other is a 1/8 inch hole where you plug in a headset.  A paper clip might short-circuit something.
First connect the iPad to its wall charger for at least half an hour to be sure it has enough juice to get started.
Then if the iPad does not wake up when either the Home or Sleep button is pressed, press and hold the Sleep button for several seconds and see if the Apple logo appears.  If it does, then your iPad has been turned off instead of merely being put to sleep.
Beyond that, look for an iPad repair center.  The Apple Authorized Repair Centers may be more expensive.  If you want to try them, look at <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>.  There may be one in your city.

  • Halt/Reboot fails if triggered after Suspend and Resume

I'm using arch linux with gnome-shell and pm-utils. Halt/Reboot works alright normally, but when the sytem suspends and resumes, and then is halted/rebooted, the same fails.
The screen shows an indication (message on console) that it's halting/rebooting, but it gets stuck there. There aren't any indication of failures/errors.
Is there someone else facing the same problem? The cause? I'll be happy to give any relavant information required for this matter, in the form of system information or any logs,
but at this point i'm not sure what would be relavant.

Sorry this seems to be an existing issue in the forum: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=113985
Will update if any of the suggestion in the above mentioned thread fixes the problem.

  • Reboot fails after software update - what now?

I've just performed a regular software update. I think it included the following 4 items:
    - iPhoto 08 (enhanced printing etc.)
    - Raw module update
    - 10.5.5 update
    - ??? don't remember this one
Three of the updates required a reboot so I opted to reboot immediately after installation.
Unfortunately I do not get beyond the white screen. I don't even get to the apple logo screen? Is there any way to restore without doing a reinstallation of the OS?
This is the first time I'm running into serious issues like this
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Olaf

Yes, I stopped doing multiple updates, esp. those requiring a reboot. I do the one-at-a-time now, and for the major updates, I do them manually from the Apple download page.
You have what I call a "stuck" update and what usually clears it is a safe boot.
Boot into the safe mode by holding down the shift key during boot. At the login screen just click restart and see if the system boots normally (it usually does) and see if all the DLs installed.
Post back either way. We never give up

  • Reboot failed after smb upgrade(SOLVED)

Forced fsck ran during reboot and reports two files using same inode ...'usr/bin/smbget .../usr/bin/smbtree
What can be done to eliminate this problem?

    Booted into Faunos Live system.
As root, ran Fsck on the HDD with inode problem.  Answered yes to all system repair queries.
Rebooted into archlinux HDD with no problems.

  • Reboot fails OS X 10.6.7 mac "error occurred during installation"

Macbook pro wont install OS X 10.6.7 "error occurred during installation"

    Try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now try reinstalling the 10.6.7 update.  Be sure you are using the Combo Updater.

  • [Solved] Reboot Fails

I've tried this 3 times using the Beginners Guide, which appears to be straight forward.  I run through the entire setup with no errors.  When I reboot, I get this message:
    Booting 'Arch Linux'
    root (hd2,0)
Filesystem type ext2fs, partition type 0x83
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid... ro
    Error 15: File not found
Disk is brand new 350gb SATA.  Am not getting any r/w errors.
    Formatted last time using auto.
Noticed that fstab did not use uuid, not did I change it to uuid.
Since I can't boot the system, I don't know how to fix it other then starting all over.
    Any ideas?

Turns out that grub was pointing to the wrong drive/partition/whatever.  I changed (hd2,0) to (hd0,0) and Arch came up with no problem.  Nasty kind of bug for the easily distracted (me).
Only other issue was using startx to test X.  Under root, I got 3 screens and the clock.  Under non-root-user I got the white screen.  Initially, I didn't move my mouse far enough to cover the screen so I kept thinking the screen was frozen.  Evenually, I had the "doh" moment and realized that everything was working.
I was very impressed that the installer found my exact card (GeForce 8400) and monitor (Samsum SyncMaster) and configured it all when xfce4 came up.  Am now running Arch.
    More questions will follow.
    Great product!

  • 3 slides reboot fails after 1.3.5.1

Both my Palm Pre and my wife's no longer "warm boots" as both did previous to 1.3.5 and 1.3.5.1 upgrades. Now our Pre's after holding the sleep button (top right corner) and sliding the mute switch back and forth three times (while chanting, "There's no place like home..") displays the Palm black & white splash screen (with no light flare effect). I have waited ten minutes and no change. If I once again depress the corner button and slide the mute switch three times the Palm splash screen fades and the  flaring occurs then the Pre now boots up successfully. I had no issues installing 1.3.5 or 1.3.5.1 other than the rebooting thing. My Calendar (which is all G-mail) works perfectly. I chose not to have any contact or calendar data in the physical Pre itself. That way all I have to do is log on to a new device (if mine is broken or lost) and everything (except photos and personal ringtones, in my case) is up and ruinning. I love my Pre. Sprint assures me that Palm will soon release a patch (for 1.3.5.1).
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Have you tried any restarts on the PRE? Go into device info., reset options and select restart. See if this may help resolve the issue. If that does not correct the issue, try a partial erase. The partial erase deletes all PIM data, contacts, calendar, account credentials, etc.
The next step will be a full erase. Which deletes all data on the PRE. You will need to backup your pictures, music and data files prior to the full erase. conncet the PRE to the PC, select USB drive mode, go to computer on the PC, click on the PRE, copy the DCIM folder to the PC for the pictures. The music files should be in the music folder. If you have data files, do a search of the PRE and find the files, unless you created a files folder and copied files into that folder.
If these procedures do not work, call the Palm smartphone support line for assistance in running WEBOS doctor to flash your phone back to a previous WEBOS version.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

  • Ipad air reboot failed !

Hello guys after a reboot of my ipad air it switch on with the apple sing start loading but froze straight away tried to restore from iTunes I have error message.
Don't know what to do please advice .
    Thank you

It might be helpful if you share what the error message was, if you in fact got a specific error message in iTunes. If you try to restore again, temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software before you proceed again.

  • OSX Server 3 Failed to Update Services, Reboot Fails now

I upgraded my Mini Server to Mavericks, then installed the Server 3 upgrade (paid $19.99).  The installation hangs during "Updating Services" and most windows become unresponsive.  Remains in that state for hours.  I lost patience and rebooted from a remote ssh session.  Now the server doesn't reboot.  I restored back to 10.8.5.
Has anyone encountered and resolved this condition?
To be precise, during the Update Services process, the gauge stops at the "d" in Updating... label.

I had the same problem. Finally found a solution that appears to work fine.
Using any free app uninstaller, remove "server" from your applications and remove it and all of its related files.
    Empty the trash.
Restart your Mac holding down the 'shift' key. This puts you in safe mode.
Go to the Apple app store and re-download the "server" app.It will ,et you do this, becuase it cannot find a copy of the app anyplace on your computer.
After downloading and installation, configure the 'server' app following its commands.
Restart as usual .... presto ... works!
You can then re-configure as required.

  • Oracle 10g installed properly on Mac OS X 10.3.8, but when rebooted failed.

    Hello All,
Just installed last night the Oracle 10g on my Powerbook 17" 1.33ghz, Mac OS X 10.3.8, 1GB RAM, with sufficient diskspace.
I met all the requirements first (well not actually all, my Mac OS X is not the server version), then followed the installation guide for Mac OS X, and it was successfull.
I was able to pull-up all the URLs including the http:/host:5500/em, played around the sqlplus from my terminal--love it!!
Now, my problem occured when I shutdown my powerbook and realized the next morning that, not one from the oracle services was up. So, I started it manually from the terminal using "su - oracle", and then STARTUP by the SYS as SYSDBA. It started properly, and I can mess around with all the databases and tables from the sqlplus. But the URLs are not still running, and my Aqua Data Studio can't connect either as client, it was running properly during that night.
Could somebody please help me identify what script to manually invoke to run web services so that I could play with the URLs.
    Thank you.

    Hi Julio,
don't forget to add lsnrctl start

  • Install failed - won't reboot off the Windows CD in order to "re-format"

My installation went OK until the reboot failed. The error I get is "Disk Error - press any key to restart" but it won't restart with a key press. Nothing. Have to power down / restart - hold Option - etc.
How can I reformat the partition so that I can boot into Boot Camp, when I remove the disk and try this I get the same thing.
If I put the Windows CD in and start with the "C" key pressed it just restarts the installation (3rd time).
Any ideas ? Am I confused about what is supposed to happen ? Either way, I'm stuck.
    Thanks,
    Ed

Well, I used a Vista CD instead and it seems to have worked. Although not by the book. Seems OK though.
I think my XP CD wasn't bootable for some reason.
    Thanks,

  • My macbook pro (13 in, mid-2010) failed to boot with single beep. Reset PRAM, now it's working normally. Should I still be worried/take it in?

Okay so my mbp has had a couple minor freakouts lately, particularly while streaming video (the screen would turn one solid color and the only solution was to reboot) then today I opened my laptop and was in the process of entering my password when the screen shut off. The computer attempted to reboot, failed, told me there was a problem and it was trying again, and a bunch of weird text appeared over the gray boot screen. I turned it off, and when I tried to turn it back on again, it wouldn't boot and instead emitted a low beep once every 5 seconds accompanied by a flashing light on the front. I read that it was a RAM problem so I did the hold down P R command control (or something) and restarted it and now it's working normally.
But should I be worried? Should I still take it in? Is there some sort of memory diagnostic I should run?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Which model MacBook Pro do you have (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011")?
Oops! Should have read the header! There are no known issues affecting that particular model and I would only take it in for testing if it begins to exhibit similar problems again. You may have 'fixed' it with a NVRAM reset. But just be on the look-out for further glitches and, if they occur, then take the machine into your local Apple Store or AASP.

the iPad is totally new to me.  I can't seem to do anything with my Apple ID.  As the title says, I am trying to download the Facebook app to my new iPad and I keep getting an error.  It tells me to sign in using my existing Apple ID, which I enter, then when I put in the password I get ConnectionManager::invoke::Failed to find service connection url.  Cancel or Retry.  I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'd also love to know how to get rid of the old owner's name, which was Mike - I'm Ann

Wow, I found a solution in another thread:
    I had exact same error.....
    Rebooting - Failed
Logging in to iTunes - Failed
Logging into itunes Store - Failed
Logging into iTunes Genius - SUCCESS    I woulnd't have thought it would make a difference but it does Then just log into the 'other' services with iTunes.
    Good luck!
I still need to know how to change the name to Ann, though, Mike keeps popping up - and yes, I have changed it under Settings.....
