You first need to make sure you have the promise controller drivers installed for it to recognize the hard drive. The system should have came with a floppy disk with the drivers on it........Make sure your boot order is floppy drive/cdrom drive/sata/scsi........boot to the XP cd after you have the sata controllers installed......then run the XP disk setup partion/format/install.........after installation you can set boot order as sata/scsi as first boot device.

  • Fatal Exception on boot with K7N2 Delta-ILSR

Ok, my roommate just got a new K7N2 Delta-ILSR.  We got it hooked up and as soon as it got to the windows boot screen, a fatal exception error popped up.  We reinstalled the OS (Windows XP Pro), and it goes through the drive format and copies the files just fine.  But when it reboots it pops up the fatal exception error again.  We've tried restarting it, and it will go through the rest of the installation, then give the error on the next boot.  After this it won't go past the OS boot.  I've checked all the cables and jumpers, everything looks good there.  We've checked the powersupply, and it is a little lower than what I've seen people suggest here, however it's higher than mine, and I'm running a K7N2 Delta-L.
As for memory, he is using Corsair Dual Channel PC 2700.  We're going to swap the power supply and the RAM to see if that makes a difference, but I wanted to know if there was anything else that might cause this problem.

Ok, we've found a temporary solution to the problem, but it's not one that sits well with my roommate.  We've underclocked the ram down to 266mhz instead of 333mhz and we have it running in single channel mode instead of dual channel.  The system runs ok, and it's only locked once while playing Planetside, but that was about 5 hours into the game and I think it was because of a bug in the game.  If that's the permanent solution, then he'll probably be returning either the ram or the motherboard, depending on which one is having the problem.
And as much as I love MSI products, I do have to say that I am very disapointed with their technical support.  I mean, honestly, it's pretty lame when you can't call on a friday to get support.  I can understand not being open on saturday and sunday, but to have nobody in the office on a friday is just insulting.
Anyways, still looking for a solution to get the ram and the motherboard to work together at the normal clock speeds.

  • Sata boot with K7N2 Delta-ILSR

I have a K7N2 Delta-ILSR board and can't load the os to the sata drives. Both drives are new and raid 0. The load sees no drives and the raid drives don't show in the boot device menu in the bios. What have I missed? Is this possable?
    Thanks for any help,
    Mike

so you made the array control plus f i assume
have you set scsi second to cdrom
then hit f6 as xp install starts
    and feed in drivers

  • Problem with K7N2 Delta-ILSR, please help

First off, these are the specs for the computer to which I shall be referring in this post:
    K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    AMD 2700+
    1x512MB PC3200 Memory Corsair CM64SD512
    Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM SATA ST380013AS
    ATI 9600 Pro
    400 Watt power supply
    Cendyne 52x cd burner
Here's what happened.  I installed everything with only minor difficulties, mostly due to getting the hard drive to work.  They were worked through with little problem due, in large part, to this forum.  I installed Windows XP, and we ran a number of things with no problem after the OS installation.  The drivers for the video card loaded well.  3DMark2003 ran beautifully.  After I got that working, I went to put my friend's old hard drive in as a slave, so he could get the files off of it.  This seemed to work well enough.  Then we went to load the drivers for the motherboard.  When it got to the audio driver, we got the old "blue screen".  Then the computer reset and tried booting 98 from the old hard drive.  We shut down and disconnected the old hard drive.  Then we restarted to find that after the second screen XP would not begin to boot.  After some playing around we decided it best to reinstall, because with no combination could we get the OS to boot up.  So we reinstalled, with a full format.  This time, the first thing I went for was the motherboard drivers.  It stopped at the audio driver, again, and gave us the old "blue screen", again.  This time, instead of stopping the boot after the second screen, it came up with this message
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before we decide what to do next.  Please let me know if any more information is required.  None of the bios settings have been altered, save to boot from the CD.
    Thank you,
    M.Cordier

    i would test ram

    Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has a similar setup, as I am planning to get the MSI    FX5600XT-VTDR 128MB VIVO card and use it with my K7N2 Delta ILSR mobo, and have heard of some compatibility issues. Can anyone comment on this?  Much appreciated.

  • HyperX with K7N2 Delta ILSR

I start a new thread because the topic could be interesting to other posters too.
From the MSI website we can see that Kingston DDR is recommended by MSI
but a lot of users here use other brands such as Corsair, Mushkin etc.
    WHY?
    and
WHY MSI does not recommend Corsair and Mushkin?
I believe both are reasonable questions.
And now lets move to the critical question.
Does the Kigston HyperX (PC3200) 400MHz (KHX3200)-CL2 will work smoothly with the
    K7N2 Delta ILSR?
    Any input is appreciated.
    Thanks

    msi_ole,
I have 4 computers here in my home office with various configs in them...way too numerous to list in a signature...my main system that I use for gaming is what is in my signature...I have the K7N2G-ILSR (non Delta) board in my testbed system...I have an MSI Ti-4600 Video card in another one of them...so I DO use MSI parts but I really like the combo of what I show in my signature much more than any other combination that I put together with all of this hardware...The system below is the fastest combo I found and it's that way even with no OCing so why wouldn't I go with it?
Also having this ASUS board let me know that not only MSI has issues with their nF2 chipset build because I've had to jump thru many hoops for various things with the ASUS board too...most of their problems are with the dual onboard network cards and memory issues which isn't really different than any of the other mfg's out there...I like to tinker with as much of this stuff as I can to see if it's one mfg or all of them and imho and from my tests it's NOT just MSI having this problem it's all of them...
What I said about Kingston has been their norm for years now...I used to own a computer store and they ALWAYS back out when they have issues...it's their way cause it's easier on them than having to actually fix something it seems...I don't like them and probly never will because of my experiences with them in the past...this is just my opinion and take it for what it's worth...
ALSO, if you had read my sticky post at the top of the forum you'd see that I recommend that you DO NOT follow MSI's recommended memory list as it could have been that they got a batch of modules that actually did work in the 1 or 2 boards that they tested them in...batches of memory differ highly in specs and those lists mean nothing to me when I buy memory anymore...gets me in the ballpark and nothing else...so take them with a grain of salt because NOTHING in electronics is absolute...parametric differences of electronic parts can leave you scratching your head for days when you just KNOW that something should work...it's the way it is...
My background in electronics is quite extensive starting with my DeVRY degree thru Guidance & Control Systems for Jets and Missiles to Memory Testers & VLSI testers used to test Intel/AMD CPU's and the memory we use in these beasts that we love to play with so much...
I've seen so much crap happen over the years I'm here hoping that I can help everyone and learn some stuff myself on the way...
    Cheers!! 8)

  • Using extenal HDD with K7N2-Delta ILSR

My board is MS-6570 K7N2 Delta ILSR. My board supports up to 160GB HDD. But i want to buy a 400GB external Philips USB 2.0 HDD. Does my board support this?

    tsavasci,
Please don't use liveupdate to flash a bios...just too fickled and risky.  In the future, if you need to flash an MSI board, use a bootable CD or, better yet, try the USB flashing utility we have developed.

  • Problem with K7N2 Delta ILSR?

    Hi
Not sure if there is a problem or not but I have:
    K7N2 Delta ILSR
    Athlon XP 2.8GHz
    512Meg Ram
    Win XP SR2
When I check in System Properites, on the General Tab, at the bottom though it reports I have a AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+, correctly, however underneath it says  "2.08 GHz, 512 Mb RAM".
What happened to the other 0.7 Ghz !
In the BIOS, the FSB is set to 166 Mhz as recommeded. If set to 100 MHz, in the BIOS the clock speed appears as 1250Mhz! Surely that's not right.
I know it wont run at the full 2.8 GHz but I thought it should only be a little less than that? Is this normal?
    Many Thanks

  • Temperature reading for K7N2 Delta ILSR

I have a 2500+ Barton (333 FSB) to work with K7N2 Delta ILSR and 2x256 MB Samsung DDRAM(400 FSB).I use MBM to read my CPU temperatures.Usually 45-47 C idle and 54-58 C under full load.I overclock CPU to 400 FSB and I get LOWER TEMPERATURES!!!!!
I use 1:1 bios setting for CPU and DRAM speeds either 333 or 400 FSB.
     How can this by possible?

I use Speedfan which seems to follow the temp in the bios. I've heard that MBM is also accurate. As far as your temps going down on a OC that is very odd indeed.

  • Someone plz help me with my k7n2 delta-ilsr

    Hey everyone,
I just put my sytem togother and ran into a problem.  I got the system to boot up just fine.  It was not until I tried installing windows xp proffesional that  I ran into problems.  The installation process runs pretty smoothly, until the computer reboots to run windows for the first time.  After it reboots the windows logo appears and the after 2 seconds or so, a blue screen appears saying that windows was shut down to prevent any damage to my computer.  I have never encountered this problem before when I built other systems.  The screen suggests that I should check my HDD's for viruses or check to see if they are configured correctly.  The HDD's are SATA and I have them set up in RAID 0 mode and yeah I installed the RAID drivers during the installation process.  Thinking that I had made mistake setting up the SATA drives, tried installing windows using a regular IDE hard drive and it gave the same message.  I am stumped anybody have any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?  Any help would be appreciated .  My system specs are below.
    MSI k7n2 delta-ilsr mobo
AMD 3000+ Athlon XP cpu (333 fsb)
ATI Raedon 9000 ( I know it's crappy , I'm still saving up for the ATI all in wonder 9800 )

    x2 maxtor 80gb maxtor hdd's
    x1 regular cd-rom drive
    x1 floppy drive
    420w raidmax psu
    (+3.3v = 26A, +5v = 32A, +12v=13A)

Memory that comes with timing of 5 2 2 2 or 6 2 2 2 or usally winbond BH-5 memory chips. Ones with 5 3 2 2 or CH-5 winbond chips. The BH-5 chips overclock a little better than the CH-5. (Muskin uses BH-5 winbond in there black ram)
Winbond is no longer making BH-5 chips but is going to make a limited run of them as demend is high for them.
The first number shown here is the Traz and it controls the flush timing bench testing is showing that a higher number of 9, 10 or 11 or getting better bench results than the 6 or 5. Thats with Dual Channel memory.
The timing you show probly should be something  like 8 3 3 3 or 8 3 3 2.5 unless it is there faster Dual channel ram.
The timing numbers can also appear like this 2 2 2 5 the high number is the Traz either way.
Look on your memory manufactor web site for the timing that if should run at also look at the voltage as this can make a big differance.

  • HELP me with my K7N2 delta ilsr

Can anyone help me with this problem. I have just upgraded to MSI's K7N2 delta ilsr motherboard. Its all working quite well apart from the fact that the pc wont start up from cold....at all.
When I start the pc from an off state, it runs up the fans and drives, but does not post.
The diagnostic led pannel on the back of the pc shows that the cpu is faulty or not installed correctly.
If I then press the reset button, the pc posts, and boots up just fine.
It does this EVERY time I start up.
I have tried re installing the cpu, which is an XP 2800+ 333 barton, but to no avail.
I have asked a few questions on other forums, but I cant solve it.
These are the suggestions so far.
    1. the psu (I have a Tsunami 400 atx psu) could not be giving out enough power on initial startup, but once the pc is running, it has enough to boot the pc from a reset.
    2. The mobo or the bios could be at fault. I have not flashed the bios, or upgraded it in any way from original, so is there an issue with the original bios on these boards, and 2800 barton chips??? Could it be a mobo fault? The pc runs fine once the machine is booted.? how do I test it?
    3. The cpu could be faulty? but would this not stop it running fuull stop?
    4. my ram. I have a single stick of OCZ 512mb pc3200 ddr, which I was told would make the pc fly. Not shure on that statement, but is this ram compatible?? could this be the problem?
Im fairly new to the upgrade side of things, and I need some help with this one.
Also, Id be really greatfull if some one could talk me through flashing my bios to the latest version, as the thought of doing this narks me a bit...I dont want to mess it up and get a dead pc...
